Is there any way that when you receive a call or message or email as soon as you hit a button the ringer shuts off? I think its really annoying because it takes forever for me to shut the ringer off. I cant just hit any button and silence the ringer...Any way to make a setting where as soon as any button is hit the ringer is silenced?

thanks for the tip...but that doesnt seem to work for me
That's weird. Works for me too.
What ROM are you running? It works fine for me too using vp3g's
Works on black satin too - could it be a smart dialer function?
Smiffy.
There's an 'ignore' button on the bottom of the screen which will turn off the ringer. Press the soft key immediately below that to turn off the ringer when it is ringing.
I believe hitting the red phone button will do the same thing.

That hangs up the call/sends the person directly to your voicemail. Scrolling down the wheel works. If it doesn't work, try scrolling down a couple times. Sometimes it doesn't work right away for me.
"Ignore" definitely does NOT send the caller to voicemail.
OK so i installed vp3g's wm6... I like wm6 its really nice. But i get the same problem maybe a little worse.... When i get an incoming phone call, if i move the scroll bar, the ringer shuts off so that is good. BUT when i get a text message, the ringer will NOT shut off until the end of the ring! Could it be because i am using phoneAlarm and assigning mp3's as my ringtones?

Just don't assign a long ringtone to the text message tone if it bothers you. Either change it to one of the default system tones (short ones) or change it to only vibrate to make things easy. It may be because of PhoneAlarm, but I am not sure about that one.

Hi Everyone,
I would like to disable the redial capability of the green talk key on the front of my Mogul. Specifically, I would like to avoid accidental re-dials when my Mogul is bouncing around my briefcase. I have case for my Mogul, but it doesn't protect the talk key. Therefore, I simply want to disable the redial capability of the talk key, but still (hopefully) be able to answers calls by pressing it.
Any ideas?

Use a program to lock like S2U2. I would not do that reg hack to my phone.
Just turn on the keylock from your control panel. It'll lock all buttons except for the power button, but the call button will still work for incoming calls.
I'm with you. I would like to disable the redial also.
I'm currently using the 'lock' function and VJDeviceLock to automatically lock it.
S2U2 has 'holes' in it and I would still get redials. Plus it is a bit of overkill for what I needed.

Yes, that works, but for me the danger is after I've hung up and am still using the pda functions... one false double-tap of the green button and it's star-69-ville.
Again I find myself posting cos the HD just doesnt cut it
I need a wuick way to get the phone to silent mode, (Im always in and out of lectures). On all my previous phones (mostly Nokia) I could assign this to the left button.
But . . . .on the HD,
I have to scroll real carefully along the TF3D scroll bar.
Find (and usually pass by) Settings.
Tap Sound
Tap Silent
And then press the power button
I mean come on, please tell me there is a quicker way ????
You can click on the volume rocker then tap silent.

You can install the Diamond Tweaks cab and set the phone to silence when it is flipped over. Seems to work fairly well on the HD. Under section 1. Call is 1.4 Mute Call, just enable it hit ok and soft reset your phone. (not all these tweaks work on the HD, but most do)

I dont think it mutes the phone when it is flipped over.. atleast it doesnt for me, using DIamond tweak... it does however allow you to flip over a ringing phone which will in turn mute it.
The Take-Call/Answer button appears to haveseveral functions:
It switches to the phone app (Good)
It answers an incoming call (good as prevents having to use the slide)
It dials the last number in the Calls list display (bad)
I keep finding that I double-press the button by mistake and end up dialling someone without intending to do so.
Is there any registry hack that can eliminate this last function. I have tried using Mobile Magic to assign the key to "switch to phone app" but then I can't use it to answer an incoming call which is a bit of a pain.
Or do I need to find an alternative dialler?
personally I find that disabling the green button from answering calls is a good thing - it means that you don't accidentally press it when taking it out of your pocket for example! you could try AE Button Plus and set long press of the green button to "press green button" and short press to "launch program" -> "phone" that way if you accidentally double-pressed the green button it wouldn't call the person, but would still load the phone dialer and could still be used to answer calls, just holding buttn instead of pressing...
Closest solution I can think of...
Sounded promising - thank you. Unfortunately I can't get a long keypress to generate an "green button press". I have decativated the usual long-keypress action but still no joy.
I even tried implementing a "double keypress" for answer but it only works sporadically.
Slider for Calling?

after my touch hd didn't make an international phone call of several minutes today from my pocket, I didn't realize how right were your words.
So, I unbinded the Green Phone Button with AEB Plus and I reassign "Key 1 (Press)" to act as Green Phone Button. From now only pressing for a while the talk/send button will actually call the dialer.
However, the most gentle touch on a contact in the default dialer will make a call... which most of the times really annoys. What would be really cool and solve many problems is to use a slider for making the phone call (not only for answering). I searched conscientiously in the forum and I found no solution.
An alternative solution would be to use other contact manager, like Yota Contacts, for example. But, having a slider for making a call would be so cool
Sorry if this is a repost, or stupid question, but I could not find the answer from a search.
Whenever someone hangs up on me during a call, the phone beeps three times. How can I turn this off? Looked in sounds and notifications but couldn't find it. Is there a registry key?
im wondering this too. like when im calling someone and its busy...it beeps making me look like a fool.
This work for me...
From the Wiki,
Disable annoying beeps when hanging up or call drops
Sometimes when a call ends or when you press the hangup button you get an annoying series of beeps. Like the in-call sounds, this is handled by a key in the registry:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\CallDropWithin that key the default 'Script' value is 'p' for 'play', change the 'Script' value to blank (erase the 'p') or change the 'Sound' key value to '*none'.

Thanks. Works perfectly.
Are there shortcuts to activate/deactivate silent mode and vibrate mode or is the menu or volume button the only way? Sometimes I want to increase the volume and switch on vibrate, which doesn't seem possible unless you go into the menu. Also is there a way to set it to one ring only, or beep mode?
You can install any of the "switch mode" widget that you can find in Market, but the fastest way to change suond profile is push the volume down button for more than 2 seconds, phone will put in silent mode, then push once volume up to set it to vibrate. Push volume up for more than 2 seconds to restore full ring
Yep, seems to be the fastest way to change the volume and set silent, a bit annoying that it beeps along the way but no big deal.
But, if you do that to set it on vibrate, it doesn't seem to work for text messages... those stay silent because they have a separate setting to vibrate. WHY?!?!!!
Always seemed like an easy thing on symbian & windows mobile, you hold one button or a couple of clicks later everything is set to vibrate, especially useful if outdoors and can't hear messages.
I just hold down the END key and select "Silent Mode". Is that not an option on your phone?
Check out egg 'n stones' "Profiles" application in the market. You can define and set profiles from the application plus you can create shortcuts to any profile. For every profile you can set the volume of the different types of sounds (alarms, notifications, media, speech, etc.) It's my favourite profile manager.
Cheers.
thanks, i'll check it out
Or just install these widgets from Jerpelea's rom page. You can find the widgets link on the palm pre theme rom, 2nd post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538633
There is a really nice 1 button widget that sits on your home screen and you can press it and it cycles between silet, vibrate and ring.
Just allow the phone to accept 'unkown sources' in the application menu. Then access the widgets from the sd card (save them there) and then you can install them.
I have got a wifi, Bluetooth, GPS, brightness & volume widget that all have little blue icons that match downloaded from the marketplace..
there from Rounded Labs.. All free as well
my phone started acting weird lately. I can switch to silent or vibrating mode with the volume button when I first turn on the phone, but after I make one phonecall it stops that function and starts working as a up-down button that can navigate within the menu items and such.
I have checked all of the settings options that might have an affect on this, but couldn't find anything yet.
Any suggestions as for how I can fix this?
Vibrate all??
My volume buttons controlled all the notifications and sounds on my previous Android phones. That is NOT the case on the Samsung Vibrant. It will only control the volume for the incoming call ringer. I would have to go to settings for every notification volume to lower them and set them to vibrate. The only option I've found is t set the volume all the way down to silent on the side of the phone which will silence everything. The problem is, there is ZERO notification whatsoever. No led, no sound, no vibrate.
Isn't there a way to have the volume control all the sounds and vibration mode on the phone as a global setting?
