Prevent "answer" button from dialling - Touch HD General

The Take-Call/Answer button appears to haveseveral functions:
It switches to the phone app (Good)
It answers an incoming call (good as prevents having to use the slide)
It dials the last number in the Calls list display (bad)
I keep finding that I double-press the button by mistake and end up dialling someone without intending to do so.
Is there any registry hack that can eliminate this last function. I have tried using Mobile Magic to assign the key to "switch to phone app" but then I can't use it to answer an incoming call which is a bit of a pain.
Or do I need to find an alternative dialler?

personally I find that disabling the green button from answering calls is a good thing - it means that you don't accidentally press it when taking it out of your pocket for example! you could try AE Button Plus and set long press of the green button to "press green button" and short press to "launch program" -> "phone" that way if you accidentally double-pressed the green button it wouldn't call the person, but would still load the phone dialer and could still be used to answer calls, just holding buttn instead of pressing...
Closest solution I can think of...

Sounded promising - thank you. Unfortunately I can't get a long keypress to generate an "green button press". I have decativated the usual long-keypress action but still no joy.
I even tried implementing a "double keypress" for answer but it only works sporadically.

Slider for Calling?
The Take-Call/Answer button appears to haveseveral functions:

* It dials the last number in the Calls list display (bad)

after my touch hd didn't make an international phone call of several minutes today from my pocket, I didn't realize how right were your words.
So, I unbinded the Green Phone Button with AEB Plus and I reassign "Key 1 (Press)" to act as Green Phone Button. From now only pressing for a while the talk/send button will actually call the dialer.
However, the most gentle touch on a contact in the default dialer will make a call... which most of the times really annoys. What would be really cool and solve many problems is to use a slider for making the phone call (not only for answering). I searched conscientiously in the forum and I found no solution.
An alternative solution would be to use other contact manager, like Yota Contacts, for example. But, having a slider for making a call would be so cool

Button 1 on HTC HD?

Quick and silly one, just not in the mood for reading the manual.
Which is the button 1 that can be modified in the start/settings/buttons screen?
It should only be editable the press and hold of this button, but not sure which one it is. tried them all, none seems to work.
LATER EDIT: it seems it is the button you may press on the stereo handsfree in the package. But even in this case, even if i changed default behaviour from voice dial to, lets say, comm manager, it i press it and keep it pressed, it still starts the voice dial. any clue?
EDIT2: Found it, its the Green Call button, the one used to answer calls. If you keep it pressed it can call any application you define in start/settings/buttons screen.
thx
volume down button
I tried it but it does not work
I tried it but it does not work ... I held the volume down button, nothing happend
you can also set it to perform a manual rotate too.
it does require a reghack along the lines of hklm\system\gdi\rotation iirc to enable that option in the 'button1' assignment menu.
also, if you change the 'landscape' dword from 4 to a 2, then it'll rotate 90deg rather than 270deg.
disclaimer: registry references are done off the top of my head; if the reg key isnt present then your in the wrong area i recall the definate answer is somewhere in these forums if you want definate info!

Disable hardware buttons for incoming call

Anyone know how to disable the hardware buttons for the incoming call screen?
I only want to answer/reject calls with the slider, not the hardware buttons as I sometimes touch them by accident while getting the phone out of my pocket.
I've tried PocketShield but didn't like it, although it was able to disable the hardware buttons. Any other suggestions?
Have you already tried s2u2? The slider can receive/reject incoming calls and you also have options to disable the hardware buttons. Works great on my elf.
I tried it some days ago, couldn't get it to work the way I wanted it to, mainly because I don't want to use the locking part. I always lock my device with the power button and I only wanted to have the ability to disable the hardware buttons for incoming calls.
After your message, I decided to install it again and give it another try. Changed some of the settings and I think I finally managed to get it working the way I want to!
It's a bit of a memory consuming app for just disabling the hardware buttons for incoming calls, but hey, it works
Thanks!
If anyone finds a solution without using S2U2, please let me know!
Ok, I have uninstalled S2U2 again. Even though it did do the job, it was also a memory consuming application just for disabling the answer/reject keys during incoming calls and I want to keep my device as clean as possible.
I have searched for hours trying to find a solution to this what I think is a very common problem. How many of you have accidentally accepted or rejected calls because of the hardware buttons? In my opinion, HTC should have thought about this and provide a solution for it.
Anyone with a better solution than S2U2?
Thanks for your input!
New version 1.40 of S2U2 uses MUCH less battery. I almost don't notice, it's running. Great program at least for me.
Since your previous post S2U2 1.4 has been released. This is supposed to address the issues you mention.
can you tell me how you have set your settings for just disabling the hardware buttons for incoming calls in s2u2 ? Thanks
I've used AE Button Plus to disable the 'Answer Call' an 'End Call' hardware keys as I had the same annoying problem of accidentally rejecting a call when taking the device out of my pocket. This works well for me and have now enabled the keys to turn wifi and bluetooth off and on with 3 taps.
Thanks everyone!
I wasn't aware of the latest S2U2 version and I almost gave it another try until I read Anfloyd's post.
I did look at AE Button Plus before, but didn't think it was capable of doing what I wanted: disable the hardware buttons during incoming calls, but still have them functional when there isn't an incoming call (such as showing the phone dial screen which it does by default).
When I looked at the AE Button Plus website, I noticed I couldn't configure the buttons based on the current active screen/program. So, even though I knew I could disable the hardware buttons, I thought I would then loose the whole functionality of them..and that would make the answer and reject buttons on my device useless.
BUT, after reading your message Anfloyd, it got me thinking..I don't need to configure it based on the current screen/program. I can just disable the buttons for 1 tap..and assign programs for them for 3 taps for example.
So, now I have this:
- 1 tap: do nothing. This way, both the answer and reject buttons are not working during incoming calls and I can only use the slider to accept/reject calls.
- 3 taps for answer button: start the phone application.
- 3 taps for reject button: nothing yet, but I'll find something
This is a solution I can work with! I have only tested it for a short time, so if it turns out that AE Button Plus is causing problems I'll give the latest S2U2 another try, but so far this seems to be working just fine.
Thanks again for your input!
ChrisVDD, those options can be found in the S2U2 settings. I don't have S2U2 installed anymore so I don't remember the exact settings. I just disabled all locking features that I didn't need, selected to disable the hardware buttons and chose to use the slider. Give it a try, you should be able to sort it out. If you can't, let me know and I'll install S2U2 again to see what settings you need.

Thank you for your fast reply, now It works like I wanted it to do.
Is it possible to end call using red hardware button but not to ignore it before answering? I tried AEBplus and it works like it should but that's not all I needed.

Maybe A_C will allow us which buttons to lock in the next release...

HELP - remove call history from phone dialer or "confirm call"

Newbie here, getting used to my first touch screen phone and WM6.1/Touchflo on my HD.
First of all - this forum is GREAT! I have spent a week glued to it and has given me loads of helpful info during my transition from Nokia S60 to Touch HD.
However, there are 2 things I'd like to know:
1. Is it possible to remove the recent calls/contacts list from above the keypad on the phone dialer either through a registry change or using a different wvga dialer skin? It's too easy to accidentally press one of these and call someone I don't want to call. I am more than happy to press menu->call history to see the call history.
2. When you click on a name in the contacts list it goes straight to dial them (if there is only one number or you click in recent calls). Is there some kind of "confirm call" question add-on? i.e. if you click on a contact, instead of calling them straight away it asks you if you are sure! (This would actually be a solution to 1. above I guess).
I've been searching for hours for something like this so if it is already covered I do apologise for not finding it from searching (perhaps I am using the wrong terminology).
Thanks in advance.
Newton.
p.s. keep up the good work here!
First of all - welcome to the forum!
In terms of your questions....
Yes, this is an issue that has been discussed and as far as I know, no one has found a good solution for it. It is annoying that it automatically calls the contact you tap.
For your question Nr. 1: I don't know if that can be done.
For question Nr. 2: Here is a suggestion that I posted in another thread.
Keep in mind that the "recent calls list" above the number pad is the issue here.
On the other hand, if you simply open your contacts' list, then tapping on a name will not automatically call, but rather it opens the contact. Then, tapping on a number will call, and tapping on the name/picture at the top will open contact for editing.
1) I used AE Button Plus to solve this problem. Remapped the Green Button: One press -> Return , tripple press -> Green Button. Since then I had no calls by accident any more
P.S.: Changed from Nokia S60 (N73) to the Blackstone too ! Cheers!!!

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. Not sure what this actually means (we don't have a green button on Touch HD!!) but I'm going to download AE Button Plus and I'm sure I'll figure it out anyway.
Did you use the freeware version 1.0.1 or the paid for version 2.6.5 of AE Button Plus ?
EDIT: Just downloaded 2.6.5 and mapped green button triple press to green button and single press to nothing (I assume that's what you meant by "return") and yes, it prevents a single press of the hardware call button but does not seem to help accidentally tapping a contact in the recent calls list above the phone dialer keypad and dialing straight away. Perhaps you misunderstood what I was trying to do or I missunderstood your solution!!
Thanks

Stops on dialer after call end with red button...

I'm noobie in android. Why when I'm finishing voice call with red button the phone stays on dialer page? When I end a call after red button press I wanna be immediately on home screen- just like in every different phones. Any chance to do that??
ROM build?
What type and whose ROM are you currently using...or USED during said issue?
I'm on Cyanogen's latest; this is not the case for myself upon ending a phone call. Do not double-click the end call, that typically freezes the phone's process of TRYING to send you back to the previous screen (i.e. - homescreen).
One-click does the trick. That rhyme was unintentional!
Also, if I might add - I'm talking about when I use the STANDARD DIALER, not a third-party application for contacts, call logs, and the dialer.
I found solution by my self and I'm very happy now!!! There is a little app called spare parts on the market. it gives additional settings. In settings "what end button do" i set go to homescreen then off. And this rocks!!! after first press od end button it goes to home screen , after second it turnes off

Dialer issues - by design, bug or only me?

Hi everyone,
I recently traded my HTC Touch dual for Leo, and so far I'm pretty impresed, and I really really like it. I've had it three days and charged it three or four times already, because I can't stop playing with that phone.
However, today I noticed the first thing that annoyed me, and it did so pretty instantly.
I was playing around in Sounds and notifications, and I enabled the hardware button click sound, (didn't enable the screen tapping sound), and noticed that most of the time the dialer would immediatly dial the last dialled number upon key press, the same effect as pressing the hardware pickup button twice very fast. After disabling the hardware button sounds, the issue was resolved, so I don't worry to much about it, but I'm curious if anyone can replicate this behaviour on his/hers HD2...
During all this playing with the dialer and accidently dialing numbers I noticed how I can't just select a number in the dialer, it automatically redials from my call list. So I never actually have to press that green "Talk" button, the call I select is just immediatly dialed. This is very annoying, als the context menu is only useful for the last call (or the first number on the list).
The dialer also 'quits to desktop' immediatly when I hang up by tapping the red end call button. No call summary? No need to close the dialer?
I was wondering abour your dialer behaviour: does is dial out on screen tap, or does it just select the number? How about ending calls?
Grtz
Lukas
Yes, I hate the dialler app. I only use it for dialling fresh numbers not in my contacts list, or my voicemail (press and hold #1#), otherwise I use the contacts app. The dialler does dial out on a screen tap and quitting the call returns me to the home screen.
So the "add new numbers to contacts after the call"-function doesn't work either? I assume it's a bug? I run v.1.48 , does the 1.43 ROM behave the same way? I didn't notice...
Thnx
Lukas
*bump*
Anyone running 1.43 ROM; is this behaviour same as on 1.48?
Hey guys,
I'm gonna bump it one more time.
Can someone with 1.43 take the 10 seconds it takes to check if they can select a call in the dialer without immediatly dialing it? If it's the same as on 1.48 I won't have to flash back to it and you'll save few hours of my time, which I would greatly appreciate.
Thnx again.
Lukas
I'm not sure what your on about, but if you mean when you press the hardware call button and the dialed list appears, if you want to open the caller you press the icon on the right hand side of the screen next to the callers/name number.
Tapping the name/number calls them.
This has always been the case in all ROM's not just Leo
I've had an HTC Touch Dual, and tapping the calls opened call history for that number, with left softkey being 'call'. Pressing the call hardware button would dial out as well.
Also, after pressing 'end call' my touch would display a call summary (call duration) and wouldn't quit to desktop immedietly so I had the time to dial another number as wel.
Thnx for answering tho... I appreciate it.
Grtz
Lukas
It's by design.
You can tap the card icon instead of the number and it will open the card where you can tap the number you want to dial. I think it was done this way by design. No problems for me, save me a few taps for a call and when I end it.
Lukass,
No such issue on 1.48 WWE.
However, the tapping sound disappears after the 1st press of the green button. It reappears after pressing a different button though.
