Hi
I was wondering if there has been any progress on linux for the HTC wizard at all?
i was speaking to somebody who had an ipaq running linux and the great thing was that it was being booted from the SD card!
is anything like this possible with the wizard? he mentioned something about 'haret'
thanx

I know, this issue has been already treated in other posts, but up to now, I have not found a solution on how to unlock Extended ROM on the magician. Is that just one of those cases: "it is not possible".
Or did I oversee something somewhere else in the forum ?
Cheers
Hans
it is not locked.
it is just a section of the flash rom.
you can flash it using 'pflashrom' - i did not put a compiled version in itsutils, since i am afraid people will mess up there phones with it. if you are knowlegable enough to compile it, you can probably use it sensible enough not to break your phone.
willem
Since it is ROM (Read Only): does it mean, I can't write anything to it ?
Excuse my dumb questions.
I can see the Extended Rom either directly on the MDAc or thru Activesync with explorer. Thats not the problem.
When I try to copy something, it says that it is write protected.

it is pnewbootloader.exe, renamed to 'pflashrom.exe'
see http://nah6.com/~itsme/cvs-xdadevtools/itsutils/src/Makefile and http://nah6.com/~itsme/cvs-xdadevtools/itsutils/src/pnewbootloader.cpp

Hey Willem,
Okay, i have to compile these textfiles into a program? Using what? I'm a kind of person who doesn't ever do any hacking or programming but i heard a friend of mine say that you can clear the extended rom so you can use the memory as working or storage mem. i would like to... Any tips?
Cheers
Hey itsme,
I have been looking through your code for this and I have a question. I notice you are referencing specific addresses. I have a HP 6515 on its way and working with someone that has one, it seems to recycle alot of the Magician. Can you give me some tips on how to find the specific addresses on this device? Thanks.

It will certainly make the iPhone take a run for its money..

where is the download link? I can't see it on my screen.
do we have to register to the forum for download?
whilst this isnt an iphone killer application, it still transforms my tired old o2 into a new device.
it has some very cool features. gone are the days of the stylus - you dont need it.
however in saying that there are still a few bugs to sort out. but honestly people, i would recommend everyone trying it out.

Read the first post on PointUI forum
"Ok, so you can download the file by clicking the letter "a" at the end of this sentence, which was a way to try and force people to read the statement above because we know you won't and just download the file anyhow."

Works fine with my WWE 2.03 TX ROM. Only some texts like the date are crapped because they are displayed in russian language by the pda.
Edit: Solved by editing the regional settings!

hey thanks you guys, really appreciate this. i read the forum FAQ's and got through!!!
Theres a new version available, 1.51. But I think it´s only for wm 5/6
It seems they're changing their web pages. Looks like more aiming on commercial products. After all I hope they will continue developing the Home application for free and WIN2003 PPC compatible.

Hi,
I have just purchased a new HTC HD2 on T-Mobile (U.K.) and I am loving it !
I am a total novice and wish to change from Windows 6.5 to the better latest Android OS.
Can anyone please tell me how to do this? I have no idea what I am doing and do not want to do something which may jeopardise the phone (I do know that it does affect the warranty) The only thing I know about 'Flash' it flashing my mobile in public.
I would really like if someone can give me Step by Step instructions via a video so I can see what I am doing.
Any feedback would be really appreciated.
Many thanks

Don't rush anything. Make sure you have a good idea about what you're doing and what you can do if things go wrong. If you're unsure about anything just use the search feature first and if you're still iffy about something, ask a question.

Thanks for the reply. I found these two sites:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmfSpQBVx-E&feature=related
http://theunlockr.com/2010/07/03/how-to-get-android-on-your-htc-hd2/
Can I use these sites as reference? And if, for anyone reason I wanted to turn back to Windows 6.5, how would I do that?

I think you are making this harder than it needs to be. Just follow the instructions given to you in your previously started thread about the same thing. The link to MSkip gives you detailed instructions on how to install Android on your HD2 and how to revert back to WM6.5 if you so desire.

Thanks for the reply. What is the latest version of Android for HTC HD2? The link you gave me, is that the latest version?
Google is your friend. Haven't used it in a while. If you are that unsure of flashing Android to your HD2 just buy an Android powered phone. Sorry to be so brash but just follow the instructions.

I'll try to explain a bit. First off you've got to install the things that let you install Android in the first place (HSPL, MAGLDR, CWM etc) and after that you install a ROM. A ROM is the thing that will decide what version of Android you phone will have. If you don't like the ROM you have, or if you just want the newest version of Android, all you have to do is change it. You don't have to re-install everything again, just your ROM.
You might have to change your CWM partition size when you choose a new ROM, but the chef (person who made the ROM) will let you know what size you need in the thread. This is also easy and doesn't require you to re-install everything. Don't worry if you don't know what a CWM partition is because it'll make sense eventually.

hi i can one with a little time upload a ubuntu 11.10 ive tryid creating my own rootfs ive tryid asking for help here but no one helps
who ever got 11.10 working from the external sdcard please share it with me. im not try to offend or get anybody upset i just dont know what else to do
You probably don't get many answers, as most people have enough issues flashing roms and using Recovery properly
So in effect, only the hard core dev's install linux on their SD cards. So chances are, the reason nobody helps, is that nobody does this, so nobody has an answer.
You can try this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158260
As far as I know, it's the only thread covering this.
Lotta time
I've spent gobs of time trying to figure out how to install linux from just the directions that moscow_desire posted above when they first were posted. They're very vague, in that only developers would understand it completely. Therefore, I finally took the hint and stopped trying to crack my bootloader to load this... sadly... I'm hoping that the app talked about later on in that thread will be developed for the a500, but it's doubtful. Either that or I'm just gonna have to sit down and really try for days to do it.
If you ever get anywhere with it let me know, it'd be interesting to have linux; albeit I don't really know how productive you can be with it.

there is an app on play store named ubuntu installer
also available in xda
it uses virtual image to run
and a vnc to connect to it
so its not a multi boot it runs on your android and your device must have enough memory to run the os properly
and about the version i think you could make your own ubuntu by getting an image by vmware
I've been searching around for quite a bit now and can't find a guide that's easy enough for me to understand.
I'm trying to install this ROM on my HD2: (Android 4.0.4)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1434860
I've read through it multiple times but can't figure out what are they steps I need to follow in order to get it running. I also tried the search function and couldn't find anything I could easily understand. Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm really new to this stuff.
So, does anyone know of a good, simple step-by-step guide to to install Android on the HD2? Thanks! :good:
Installing Android is pretty tricky for beginners.
When I first started, this was the guide that helped me the most:
http://www.htchd2android.com/how-to/how-to-install-android-on-htc-hd2-android-4-0-4/
It's really easy to follow and helped me tremendously. I used their 4.0.3 guide back when I did mine, but that one looks to be very similar and uses a newer version.
Hope that works out for you. :good:
Thanks for the link, I haven't really had time to look through it yet but I'll be sure to check it out now.
BTW, is that a good ROM to use or would you suggest another one? Thanks again.
