I know, this issue has been already treated in other posts, but up to now, I have not found a solution on how to unlock Extended ROM on the magician. Is that just one of those cases: "it is not possible".
Or did I oversee something somewhere else in the forum ?
Cheers
Hans
it is not locked.
it is just a section of the flash rom.
you can flash it using 'pflashrom' - i did not put a compiled version in itsutils, since i am afraid people will mess up there phones with it. if you are knowlegable enough to compile it, you can probably use it sensible enough not to break your phone.
willem
Since it is ROM (Read Only): does it mean, I can't write anything to it ?
Excuse my dumb questions.
I can see the Extended Rom either directly on the MDAc or thru Activesync with explorer. Thats not the problem.
When I try to copy something, it says that it is write protected.

I looked in wiki and in your site, but cannot find it.

it is pnewbootloader.exe, renamed to 'pflashrom.exe'
see http://nah6.com/~itsme/cvs-xdadevtools/itsutils/src/Makefile and http://nah6.com/~itsme/cvs-xdadevtools/itsutils/src/pnewbootloader.cpp

Hey Willem,
Okay, i have to compile these textfiles into a program? Using what? I'm a kind of person who doesn't ever do any hacking or programming but i heard a friend of mine say that you can clear the extended rom so you can use the memory as working or storage mem. i would like to... Any tips?
Cheers
Hey itsme,
I have been looking through your code for this and I have a question. I notice you are referencing specific addresses. I have a HP 6515 on its way and working with someone that has one, it seems to recycle alot of the Magician. Can you give me some tips on how to find the specific addresses on this device? Thanks.

In the XDA FTP secton ,there is a CAB file to disable security
If you dont know where is the FTP, please use the search button, or go to wiki of xda dev and near the bottom there is a link to FTP tutorial
Ive spent most of the afternoon searching, Ive run the following cab file which I believe you are referring to Default_Signed_DisableSecurity.CAB if it isnt then be a good chap and point me at the right file name, the search engine on this site isnt that accurate!!!!
Oh and it doesnt help trying to make smart comments, if you dont want to help then please dont post. not everyone asks a question without doing research beforehand.

First of all, Yes, that is the file I was talking about.
Second, if you read my post correctly, I was commenting on using the SEARCH option with regards to HOW TO ACCESS the FTP site. as there are a lot of people who do not know how to access the FTP site and in the wiki, it is very carefully explained on how to do it.
So, if you think I am making smart comments, then I kinda feel offended. I was trying to help. and am not sure I did but I don't see any SMART COMMENT in my reply. Did I say you didnt research? How come you go off all agressive?
Please be clearer regarding what part of my reply was a "SMART COMMENT" so I know what went wrong.
If I offended you then I appologise, I have been on many forums, when I ask a quesiton the first person that reads the post generally comes back with a do a search or look in the FTP assuming that I have not already done that. I always exhaust all avenues that I can before posting. I have tried the Hacks over and over to no avail. the error message is still there. The CAB file in quesiton was extracted from an XDA2S so may be incompatible??

Ok I want to do a full Backup of my Herald, so if it crash that i can go into Windows, fire up a program, pressing "restore old ROM" and it is the way i had backuped it.
I know some programs, that are storing backup datas like sms, contacts etc. - but thats not enough for me.
So is there a program that can fulfill my needs?
( and yes, i read a lot in the forum here - but i didn't found anything or i'm just a bit blind )

When you do a backup of your ppc with spb backup, it will backup everything that is on your device (ROM) that is not part of the ROM itself.
It means that all programs installed after a hard reset, all the databases (mails, contacts, notifications,...) all the registry, and all files not being part of the ROM.
So if you do a hard reset and you restore the backup it will be exactly the same as it when you did the backup. And I think that it is what you want.
Caution, if you do an OS up/downgrade, your backup is useless. This backup cannot be either installed on another device.
Cheers,
Fred

This is device dependent. With some of them, it is possible, with others it's not, for several reasons. If you don't find tools or someone who managed to do it and provided the way to do so, well you're stuck... I think dumping is not the biggest problem, the real problem is the restore stuff. Sorry, but it is so.
Cheers,
Fred
hehe ok ok - i would be a step closer to my goal if i would find a way to unlock the ROM/ break into, so i can change files in there...

What do you mean? If you're talking about doing it 'live', forget about that. But if you're talking about changing the contents of the Rom before doing the upgrade, well the tools are already existing and kitchens too (depending on the device)

It should be an official Rom, am I right? If it is the case, download it on the official site and use NBHExtract to get the dump of the .nbh file and rebuild it. Have a look in hermes forum and in xda-wiki

WHAT #@###]??!\\|???????
1) This is a 1 year old thread....
2) Have you read the thread or not??
3) Have you read the thread?
4) Read again the thread......
This is a joke..... Right???
Well since summer is here, and after trying a lot of custom roms for my hd2, i need some advice on porting the TG01/T01A rom to the HD2.
3 reasons why I want to port the tsunagi rom to the hd2.
1 is because of the Japanese support on the T01A rom, not just so i can view the fonts but also enter hiragana/katakana/kanji.
2. after owning the tg01 (rip tsun-tsun) i miss the toshiba keyboard. it might be possible to extract the stripe interface and the toshiba keyboard and install it no?
3. Plus I have nothing better to do so i figured why not.
I started the actual process today so I haven't gone that far yet. Right now i dumped both the T01A and the TG01 roms (downloaded from Toshiba, dumped with this kitchen) I figured i port the english rom first then after i successfully port it, i'll move on to the japanese rom. So far that's all I got, im gonna start dumping either the 2.10 or the 2.13 HD2 rom from t-mobile sometime today.
So to all the veterans out there, any tips?
so i started working on this today, what i did was dump the tg01 rom then move files from the tsunagi dump to an hd2 kitchen. then i cooked a rom. didnt really think it was gonna work and i was right. i assume its the toshiba setup running at startup causing it to freeze. probably need to disable that application and cook it again. heres a pic for those interested.
like i said any tips would be appreciated.
actually I would love the tg01 interface on my hd2 keep me posted I am very interested in the development of this
are you just cooking the modules in the phone and seeing where it goes or...
are the modules okay for visual kitchen??? I'm curious and have you spoken to one of the mods to see if they can help

well what ive done so far is dump the stock tg01 rom from toshibas site and try to add in toshibas stuff (the keyboard and the menu). thats pretty much as far as i gotten. i believe its all in the oem folder on the toshiba, plus im trying to convert that oem into ext but so far the tools i tried to use isnt working for me. this weekend im gonna look into the problem a little closer since i have the time.

that interface looks really good doesnt it? actually the whole point of this project was so i could use the docomo japanese ime from the toshiba to the hd2, plus i know a bunch of people with hd2's around here, and i wanted mine to "pop". haha
Seems good.
It's better if you can post the dump files if you wish, so that others can look in to it.
yeah ill post the tg01 dump later, i just got home from a bonfire. summers doin good for me so far. haha. hopefully this thing shouldnt be too difficult. btw if u do obtain a tg01/t01a rom dump, the files in question are in the oem folder, they one of the folders start with an S and the second starts with a T. i dont exactly have computer access atm so i cant tell the exact folder name.
edit: so the folders are called tsbapl and sysapl. this is located in the oem folder from the tg01/t01a rom. if we can somehow incorporate that into the hd2, i think that'll be it. i tried a couple oem -> ext converters from the t01a forum but it didnt work, me thinks its cause my computers acting like a monkey and i have to reinstall windows.
Great initiative Caffeine, I too, would love trying out Toshiba's UI on the HD2
i pm'ed Nokser, an active tg01 rom cooker for help. he seems pretty busy but he gave me some info. the toshiba keyboard and the toshiba interface is located in the tsbapl folder from the dump. i went ahead and uploaded the tsbapl folder for those of you who want to take a look out of it. i'll try to get the keyboard working first, then hopefully the stripes interface.
hers the tsbapl dump. http://bit.ly/azhlYP
btw does anyone know how to convert this to a cab? "oem -> cab". the tools i found dont seem to work for me.
I create for you .cab file
Only, you had to test if it works

that sounds fine, thanks for helping me out bro.
I have done some cooking as well, mostly personal but I am willing to help out. Just got back from android land and its been awhile but I will get it together again quickly. Let me know how I can help out man.
well right now what ive been doing is simply adding the folder to the oem folder in the hd2 kitchen im using. that didnt work because as far as i can tell a toshiba specific app runs at startup so if we can somehow disable that app it'll be working.
so i havent really worked on this much (lately since ive been busy) tbh, but anyone have any ideas on what i should do?

im not gonna lie the only work ive done to this was take out programs from the extracted oem folder. thats pretty much what im doing, trial and error, i just need to figure out whats running at startup thats causing the phone to freeze up. so far i tried reading the dsm file with an editor but it wont show me what file its making run at startup.
im in the process of building another rom.. hopefully i get it down.

Compiling a new Software is very hard work. I'll be more than add + remove. Good luck.
O.K. i have looked for the answer to this question and the closest i can get is from a post in 2006 using Hypercore. So with that said i am sorry if i am overlooking the the answer somewhere. i love the WhiteStone_WM6.5_D4C2_21905_COM2_PV built by "pdaviet".The problem is that I would like to open this rom and add a couple of thing to it wrap it back up and put it back on my phone. How do i do this. i have been trying to figure this out for 6 hours now and i am about to lose my mind not to mention my eyes. any direction somebody can point me is appreciated.
Try this method, and ignore posts that say you can't dump protected roms. You may need to change settings, depending on the device.

Just install them by using cab files. Much easier (and safer!).
Recooking roms is not something you are able to learn in a day or two.

i know it is not easy but can you please tell me how can i modify this to extract leo rom.thanks
You're gonna need to modify the ini files in the tools folder. I think you'll need to add the HD2 to the list in htcrt.ini and htcrt_devices.ini, and then get a Leo.htcrtproj file. The easiest thing would be to download a Leo-specific kitchen and get the files (or maybe the settings that you need.). I've never done it before, but it looks pretty easy. Just open the files with notepad, and you'll see what's missing.
thank for reply .i will give it a try,
Hello
I'm looking for some hints about the subject: how anyone can take a shipped, let me say, HTC Desire rom and let it work on HD2.
I'm not talking about doing heavy tweaks, modifications and so on... just to take a stock Android ROM and have it working on HD2.
I asked to some chefs and received some hints but It's not enough.
I don't want to think that this is a "secret" and I think would be great if some chef would share his experience/step-by-step instruction on how to do this.
As I said before, I think we could start just with simple porting of a stock htc desire ROM, just to understand all the steps. I think that further steps on how to customize and tweaks will be explored later and anyone could experiment itself.. but we need a basic starting point.
Some step by step instruction will be great like:
1) Download shipped rom from here .........
2) unrar it in linux folder
3) copy this folder, rename the other one, dowload this file, copy this...
4) execute shell command XXXXX
5) copy on your sd card
6) boot...
of course I know it's not so easy, but is just an exaple on what I ask here. I think there are a lot of other perople looking for this.
Thanks to any chef/dev that would to explain to our noobs how to get the "magic"
p.s.
I ask the moderators to keep, if possible, this thread in the Dev forum... this because we need help from devs here and in the Q&A forum it will be never noticed.

Yes, I was pointed to that thread too. If you look at the end there are some questions I did. The problem is that is based on MIUI... That is already a custom ROM.
I think the better way to understand the process (not just do it) is to have hints on how to port a standard/stock HTC DESIRE rom.

For the cedesmith's initrd.gz I was thinking the same thing.. maybe we have to ask directly to him.

best roms on xda. Really nice work guys!
But still, no one shares the "secret" I have tried several things myself, but it didnt work. Would really appreciate if someone could share how to port a rom to the hd2.
Yeah would be great if tyween and rafpigna let us know how they managed it, what guides/reference they started of on or if they have any tips for us etc
