I have never been able to access my banking site using my PPC's from the early days of xda through xda2, IIs, Universal and now Ameo (upgraded to WM6) but having read the microsoft info have always put it down to a PPC problem of being sub IE6 as most banking sites seem to require. I even tried Tweaks2k2 to trick them into thinking I'm on IE6 but no avail. OK. I can live with that even on my new Ameo which does EVERYTHING and does it so well (mostly).
Imagin my shock when my son turns up with his also superb xda Orbit happily using the same banking site as me without hitch!!!!!! He's only got WM5 to boot!!!!
How can it be? Is it something else loaded on his which is affecting it or is his IE Mobile an earlier but more functional version than mine? We can't seem to find out what versions we are using (I know, Duh) but they are very slightly different in the menus so that could be it. If it is his version, can I download a stand alone copy and use that as well/instead of mine?
Please HELP.....
Have you tried Opera?
Yes. I have v8.65 and the bank require v9 or above so same thing there.
what is the website i will try it on my x7500 (wm5) and see what i get.
Wells Fargo is one I can't get to. I have a stock Cingular 8525 on WM5. I can see the site, just can't access my banking info.
I have the same problem, my workaround is to use Terminal Services from PC to get to IE6 desptop - a little fiddley, but it works

I tried Magneto on my Himalaya, but I had lot of problems(see 'Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking'). Is it there same problems also for Typhoon? Meaned the biggest problems such as unability to connect via ActiveSync, unability to accept many applications from 2003SE,etc. Someony who has it already tried, please write here your opinions and experiences. Thanx.
On Typhoon, Activesync works perfectly, you can't unlock it, neither for applications, nor to use another sim card, you can't use USSD... Don't load it for the now and wait for the final version.

+1 you are right.. it is so early for WM2005. if you load microsoft can test WM 2005 on your phone and you will be cavy...
Will there ever be a stable WM5 for the typhoon?

It can be application unlocked very easily with a simple registry change.
I dont see the problems eveyone is having with the typhoon with wm 5, its very stable I dont get any crashes or lockups any more. Tom tom 5 even works relaibly. The only downfall is the camera, which im sure there will be a fix.
?
I am still interesting about the applications. WM5 needs applications designed especially for this OS or accepts also the apps, which are running also on WM2003(se)? My Himalaya, while running on Magneto, wants not accept lot of the software that I am using with WM2003se normally...
I've been running WM5 on Typhoon for 1 week.
It's awesome. (totally happy, no issues with anything)
The WM5 GUI look & feel is much better for everythying
It seems faster
I really enjoy having photo/ring-tone based contacts built in.
radio seems to aquire quicker
Active Sync over GPRS and IMAP mail is MUCH faster!
I also recommend Pocket Controller Professional. You can control any pocket pc or smartphone from your computer! (and sync files, etc etc) It comes with “skins” so it looks like your whole phone is up on the screen. (very nice to "type" in stuff now and then too) Works great on the Typhoon with WM5 so far.
The Tornado should be interesting in Oct. (similar size + WiFi + EDGE)
s4czech or anyone else, could you please indicate me a link where to find a complete explanation on how to upgrade to WM5?
I already downloaded the upgrade, but as I donno the procedure all I get is error' messages that this or that is missing... Thanks!

I am using WM 5 on my C500 (Typhoon). It runs very well, stable and fast. I have installed the following Software (tested and running). Except Power Task, they are all WM2K3 Apps
- CityTime Alarms
- Developerone Power Tasks (WM5 Version)
- Fizz Traveller 2
- Fizz Monitor
- TCPMP
- WordPad
- Blackjack
- Facade from SBSH (new)
- Opera for Mobile (new)
- Papyrus from SBSH (new)
- GPRS Traffic Counter (new)
And that's basically all I need
Cheers
Hans
I use to have a XDA 2 (well, SPV M1000) and (the important thing) a folder named "My XDA 2 must have". The software I use most, the software to backup, the software to keep not only to try. Like:
1. Sprite Backup
2. Visual IT Rough Guide to London (like A-Z map to central London + extras)
3. Splash ID
and not last
4. TomTom 5 .... and others that I miss already.
And THEN, here it is, I waited so long for it, (Exec) that I decided to switch from Orange, to O2, (Orange don't have this even now). Three days of "testing"...Well the device is great....Windows 5 isn't. (At least for me.)
My folder (My XDA 2 must have) is now "The software that doesn't work on WM5" ...None of the four named programs work...it takes ages to charge, it's slow, everything has changed...and how about that 'program' included "Clear Storage"??!!!
I thought it was something like remove programs, not a bloody HARD RESET!
Everything seems to say about Windows 5.....WHY FIX IT IF IT AIN'T BROKEN??!!!
BTW: Does anybody know a decent Wi-Fi Connections Manager that WORKS?? (Hitchhiker crashes my Exec, Retina Scanner wants to know what my socks size is when registering, Wi-Fi Companion Doesn't Install in WM5.........)
I am glad I didn't sell my SPV M1000 yet....but I want to....I love the Exec, but hate what it does...or rather what it doesn't!
..............helps us all !!!
You seem surprised that a major version upgrade (WM2003 to WM5) comes with occasional problems. Didn't we see the same when we changed from Windows 3.1 to Windows 95?
Later versions of desktop operating systems have some backwards compatibility built in, but with the limited resources of the PPC platform I guess they couldn't achieve everything.
We may not know what they are yet , but I'm sure WM5 has built-in features that drive the platform on another big leap and over time we'll take them for granted. I looked at my XDA2 last night (now two days-worth of dust gathering on it) and was reminded how fast it responded to commands, but it looked dated already compared with my shiny new Exec.
Don't forget, we're early adopters of WM5 and we're always going to have problems. When ROM upgrades are released and developers get new versions out for us, we'll wonder how we ever lived without it!
In case you haven't seen it yet, there's a thread running over at www.tekguru.co.uk listing the software that works perfectly on WM5. I found it useful when looking for replacements for my old WM2003 versions.
I have #2 and #4 working (for #4 you need TT 5.1 - d/l the update from their site)
Reinstall from fresh I reckon. And you are using activesync 4 not 3.8 still?
I agree with SiliconS.. I'm always wanting the very latest of everything (hardware and software) and to be honest, I'm surprised how good windows mobile 5 is!
There are many problems, like icons disappearing and speed etc..but they're not life threatening.
I only hope that the providers are going to keep up with the developers and release their specific patches..if not then I'll have to convert to the Jasjar rom
I love the MDA PRO even with it's problems.
Thanks for the help guys. I'll try these options as well.
BTW, anyone has any problems with the AvantGo software?
Also
#1 Try googling : Sprite Backup v3.2.0 build 2487.
Should be working with JJ.
Best of Luck.

This is real? had you used and work with restores?
Thanks.
From the Sprite Backup developers website:
"Sprite Backup is only compatible with devices using Windows Mobile 2002 and 2003. Windows Mobile 2005 devices cannot use Sprite Backup. We will be releasing a new version that will be compatible with these devices in the near future. Please keep visiting this site for updates."
I did try the version you mentioned but no luck. I use a Exec not a JJ...coud that be it? Thanks anyway...and damn I need a backup program...[/quote]
Here I am after another whole day of reading forums, installing and uninstalling, hard resets, trial and error....and things like that.
As far as the XDA is concerned....I feel better about it now, installed SPB Pocket Plus (works a dream), SPB Finance (great 'cuz it syncs with Quicken), and most of all, swiched to "Corporate" mode...and man, it is FAST now !!!
As mentioned before, Sprite Backup doesn't work, AvantGo works but not as it should, SplashID....nope. I did try eWallet, which works ok on the desktop but not on the XDA.
It's all good fun though.

I'm thinking that I might go for a hard reset and choose Corp, but I don't know how to set up the GPRS details. How did you get GPRS working for Corporate Mode, or haven't you needed to?
I do find the settings for all these connections v.confusing. I just want it simple, like my laptop! One connection does all...
Now that you mentioned that, I wouldn't know if I need different setting yet, as I am still on Orange for the next couple of days until they port my number. Interesting to see if it works though.
I've tried today the GPRS, G3 connection and it worked without changing anything. (In Corporate mode)
I will be recieving my Exec from O2 this week and realize there will be some software on it that I will not utilize like Clearvue PDF Viewer, Powerpoint, Excell...is it easy enough to take these programs off....and I understand there is a choice of configuration for the individual or corporate user?......also some cast doubt on the benefits of O2 Active Synch?.....
I intend to install Skype and software to allow compressed movies to be watched...not sure if anyone has any experience of these?
I got mine recently and first I installed it as o2 intended, but I later did a hard reset and noticed that you can install it without the o2 stuff so I did that and it works alot better for me (I use spb pocket plus). I didn't use the O2 cd fro my active sync but instead downloaded the latest from the Microsoft web site and that worked fine.
Sorry don't know how to remove Powerpoint etc. There are some posts on this forum about unlocking the ROM but that will only allow you to alter what gets installed by o2.
Software I use:
SPB Pocket Plus
Pocket Informant
SPB Weather
Mobipocket
eWallet
1-Calc
Thanks, got my O2 Exec today and did a basic install only.
I will primarily be using this as a LAN access point at home and would want to synch it up to my laptop for the transfer of files purposes.
I also would want to utilise wi-fi capability 'on the go'.
I am hoping that by choosing not to install O2 Active that this would not be detrimental in any way? Its just some people seem to find O2 Active more of a pain than a pleasure?
All that sort of stuff is fine without o2 active. As far as I can see the only stuff you get with o2 active is a load of links to news and sport sites etc, plus links to parts of the system settings and functions (like phone settings and make a video call) all doable without the active interface. The only bit of functionality that I did spot that I don't get with the basic install is a profiles program that allowed me to set up times for the phone, wan etc to be off or on together with power settings.
As I said I had so much trouble with installing my software that I did not use the o2 active interface for very long. It should perhaps be noted that the people on this discussion board will have a tendancy to customise their pocket pc quite heavily and will, in the general course of things, rather not have software imposed, quite reasonably. However this may not suit you, but it sounds like it probably does.
Cheers
Hi Guys,
This post is a little overdue in that I lost my password to login here, but have been reading the forum religiously daily.
Anyways, after waiting and waiting, I still feel like the fool with the new device that can't run one single Medical app.
I'm talking about Skyscape and the like.
None of the WM2003 Apps are upward compatible.
Styletap doesn't install the .pdbs of my older Apps.
Essentially I saw one post earlier touting Epocrates may work, but thats just one app.
So at times, I miss my 6315 Ipaq for this functionality, but am stalling on downgrading to using 2 PDAs for this purpose.
Anyone care to share misery some company on this topic,
OR
have any insight into a possible solution?
Thanks
hi
though some of the apps dont run (not wm5 compatible) but i have 4 products off skyscape that work perfectly... these are 5mcc 2006, oxford handbook of emergency medicine, oxford handbook of acute medicine , and ferri clinical advisor...

1)abc's lab application
2)cecil

What is your definition of "it works"? Any slow downs? How about when switching from lanscape to portrait or vice versa? Any problems with screen refreshing on the Universal?
I guess those guys didnt email anyone.
I just checked sometime back and 90% of their products are NOW WM5 compatible. Go and get them
im very interested in medical apps for my pda, please can you guys let me know how they run on the exec. I had some skyscape apps on my ipaq 4150 and it took quite a while to load, im thinkin it would take even longer on the exec.
They are fast and support both landscape and portrait mode. Pretty good in my opinions.
How come skyscape site only list their programs to be compatible with Pocket PC 2003 and not Windows Mobile 5? This is what maybe causing hesitation on our part, at least now we know skyscape programs work even though they did not specify full Windows Mobile 5 support.
Frank Shanns Drug Doses works in both landscape and portrait.
www.drugdoses.net
I think maybe skyscape has updated their site recently, since it seems they are now very specific about which apps are WM5 compatible.
Universaldoc, could you say which apps you have working well on your device?
Hi Shiva,
Most of them are working. When you click on the title, it will show you a list of device requirements in which it will now state WM 5 also. 99% of the apps have been upgraded to WM 5 now.
I mainly use 5mcc and Stedmans They both work very well.
skyscape success
I took the plunge and installed 5 min CC, DrDrugs, and the Medical Letter Drug interactions programs. All seem to work just fine.
One thing that might be disconcerting to some is that in the install routine, if you are installing to storage card, you get a message that install was NOT successful. But you just find the cab files that were successfully copied over, run them, and no problem.
Now my external brain is healthier again.
In Australia
If anyone is in Australia and use MIMS (the local pharmacy information)- then you're out of luck.
Any iSilo stuff works as iSilo itself works
Why would anyone need iSilo when vast databases like Skyscape are available?
Anyone tried ER Suite by Medical Wizards yet?
http://www.medicalwizards.com/client/productdesc.aspx?productid=47
Update: I tried their apps 4 months ago. Their apps worked on the Universal, but it is not WM5 compatible yet. I would not recommend their software for the Universal at the moment.
DrugDoses has been updated
Hi!
Just to let you know that DrugDoses, a PDA version of Frank Shann's Drug Database, has just been updated. I really like its new features, such as the medical formulas and scores (Apgar, Glasgow Coma Scale, QTc, FeNa, etc).

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but if I try to go to news.bbc.co.uk in PocketIE I get the mobile version of the site, despite having altered the registry so to appear as IE5.5.... no other sites recognise me as a using a pda.....
Anyone know a way around this... I use news.bbc.co.uk pretty frequently...
Use the options on the bbc website to select which version of news you want to read; text, mobile or full. It should remember when you come back to it, which is probably what is currently happening now, you visited the bbc before you hacked PIE to report that it was IE and you still have the PIE cookie on your phone.
