TOTALLY DEAD Htc Tytn - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hey everyone,
Firstly this is my first post and so I am not quite sure whether I am posting in the right place. Accept my apologies if I have made a mistake. I own a Htc Tytn which I purchased this January 2007. I read in several forums that some users are experiencing certain problems with the device like screen allignment etc. I was very glad to find out thart my device was a very stable one. Surprisingly it never froze. I did perform some soft resets at times just to ensure everything stays all right. I also did not have any keyboard or allighnment issue. Today when I was speaking on the phone suddenly my Tytn shut down. When I restarted it the screen went white. Firstly I tried performing a soft reset which didn't work and then a hard reset which didn't work as well. Then i thought of entering the bootloader mode so that I can install the ROM again but it wouldn't go into the boot loader mode ( I did press the right sequence of buttons for the hard, soft reset and for entering bootloader mode). Even the htc logo doesn't appear. Whenever the power button is pressed the screen goes white. Also whenever I tried the different reset and tried entering bootloader mode the screen went white as well. My device had almost full charge when this happened. Also one more thing, as the screen goes white the green button( send/ receive)button blinks( weird!!!!) but the red button is not lit and doesn't blink at all. Lastly I think I have made it clear that I was not trying to upgrade the ROM or anything when this disaster happened. I WOULD reaaallly appreciate if somebody could help me sort this problem out with my Tytn before I am forced to send this device back to HTC for repair( which I don't want to). Thanks everyone.

Check the TyTn Wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
There's a section in there on the solid white screen, phone doesn't boot. I think it's in the "Common Upgrade Problems" section but the advice there may be applicable to your situation. Good luck!

XDA Exec, STUCK ON SPLASH SCREEN

Ok, Ive got a new problem with my XDA Exec.
Opened it up and tryied to turn on the backlight and nothing. tried a soft reset, nothingtried a hard reset now it just sticks on the splash screen, the red writing comes up on the right and side and just hangs there forever!
Please help
You're stuck. apparently the only remedy is turning it in to repair. For most of us it is under warranty.
Just off the phone to 02. Theres sending me a new one via courier on monday. it's less than a day old.
Is this a comon fault with the Exec?
erm ... I managed to experience this problem.
I was trying to uninstall SPB GPRS thingy that comes with the O2 package, and it just wouldn't go. I ended up deleting the program files and getting an error when it started up, so I deleted the GPRSNotify file under Startup. It never worked again ...
I got the splash screen, tried soft and hard resetting and various permutations (including standing on one leg and while holding breath) ... nothing. Did try to install fresh ROM, but startup wouldn't get far enough to let PC load ROM over USB.
Ended up contacting O2 who sent me a nice shiny new one, as it was only three weeks old. This time I haven't installed GPRS monitor thingy, and I don't intend to fiddle with it again ... or at least until I've forgotten my lesson ...
Sorry i ment to give you guys an update on this. I did manage to get it working again, although i still accepted the new one the sent to me.
What i did was installed a new rom off the 02 website. at 1st the computer couldnt see the phone so wot i did was enter what i think was the programming side of the phone. i found the instructions on how to this on the net. i think i pressed the 2 soft keys and the light switch while pressing the reset switch with the stylus (i think that was the buttons but unsure as i cant find the page again) when the screen light up again there was some faint writing on the screen with the word serial or usb. Double clicked on the rom file and 30mins later my phone was revived.
Funny it was the gprs monitor that i too installed before the phone screwed up? ive since installed it again on the new phone and have had no problems with it since.

Locked up, please help

Hi,
I have a tmobile MDA (wizard). I attempted to install some software on it, but disconnected and rebooted before it was complete (it appeared to be just spinning).
Now after a soft reset, screen shows only 'Windows Mobile' after booting, and none of the buttons work and I can't advance from this screen.
Is there a way to hard reset that doesn't involve using the OS (ie, I can't click on anything because it's not getting to that point).
Also in this state activesync isn't detecting device.
Thanks in advance! - Chris
Hold down (and keep holding) the camera button while depressing the reset button. Hopefully it boots into a tri-color screen. If so, plug it into the USB port and, at the bottom of the screen, it should display "USB". If that happens, flash it with a *known good rom*, such as a stock T-Mobile rom. Don't try to be clever, the object is to get the phone working. Once the flash has started, *get up and walk away* for 15 or 20 minutes. Don't check in on it, leave it alone, It takes some time. When you hear it's little chime, it's done, rebooted and ready. If any of the above doesn't happen or the flash outright fails, then you may have trashed it permanently. It doesn't sound like it's beyond hope yet, however.
i have the wizard and im having the same problem after installing a ROM from this website...it just goes to the windows mobile screen with the numbers then shuts off...id really like to save my phone is there anything else i can try because that hard reset thing isnt working

Well same thing happened to me a few days back.. I had to Cold Reset [which restored it to factory defaults], but hey I got it working again..
Press Communication Button [Top Left] and Record Button [Top Right] at the same time and use the stylus to soft reset..
You will get a black screen, asking you to press "Send" to reset to "Factory defaults"
Press "Send".
Hopefully you should get your MDA working again ...
I read the "Above" in the HTC Wizard Service Manual [PDF] on the *last page* under the "Cold-reset" Section..

Wizard is Frozen - It won't start. Someone help pls??

Hi, I would really appreciate anyones help with this. My brother went on holiday and left me his 02 XDA Mini S (I found out here its also called a Wizard?), and I had no problems using it for about 3 days - was just testing the various features.
I found my brothers contacts - and since its now a hand me down so I wanted to remove all these etc - I asked my brother what to do and he said do a Hard Reset. I found out in the Manual how to do it - I press the Communication Button and the voice command button and use the reset and nothing happened. I asked my brother and he said use the communication and voice button and then turn it on, that sometimes works - and it did. The screen showed:
Press Send to restore factory default...
I pressed the send button and it said it formatted. I was happy, it turned on, I did the set up - everything was working. Then at the end of the day I turned it off and in the morning I turned it on - all the screen shows now is the screen which first comes on - 02 with and underwater bubbles thing, and four lines -
IPL 2.21.0001
SPL 2.21.0001
GSM 02.07.10
OS 2.21.4.1
in red.
It won't go to the next screen - which I think says windows mobile. It just stays at the first screen when I turn it on - and has these four lines
Can anyone help me please? My brother will be back from holiday soon and he will be very upset with me if he finds I ruined his phone
please please please help me - i'm not as good with technology as you guys
Jocelyn
Try and get into bootloader mode by holding down the camera button and soft resetting your device. From bootloader mode you can flash back to the factory rom that was on the phone or wizard love.
Hi
I found how to go into Bootloader mode - my phone now shows three colours. But I'm not sure how to do the rest you mentioned. Could you explain how I should do it step by step please? Sorry!
Jocelyn
He means that you download the orginal rom from your provider and flash it back onto the phone.
Ok
I have made no progress
Here's what I did (please don't laugh - I'm new at all this)
1. I downloaded the active sync software from microsoft, and also downloaded a file i searched through on the forum mentioned by peter, called Wizard Love.
2. I pressed the camera button and soft rest the wizard to go into boot mode
3. I ran active sync - it said no connection.I connected the Wizard and searched - it said that no device was found (but the computer made a sound like it always makes when USB is plugged in). Also on the phone, it showed the word USB at the bottom left of the screen.
4. I extracted the wizard love and double clicked on the file newromupdateutility_wizard_noid.exe
5. When I got to the screen about existing software on the phone it was blank in that section, but it had the option to use the new one, so I proceeded.
6. The Wizard screen switched to a bar and completed 100% within about 5 minutes. Same thing on the computer screen.
7. It shows congratulations - etc.
8. I clossed everything and shut off the computer. Disconnected the wizard and there was a picture like some love cartoon characters - and thats all.it just stayed at that screen for a long time. Finally i thot maybe i should turn it off, but the power button does not work.
9. I used the stylus and did it a soft reset - the phone still froze at the start, with a wizard love cartoon - but the 4 lines i mentioned in my first post were different - it showed different numbers. But it still stuck there.
10. I thought maybe the wizard love is not compatible with my phone? So I went to the 02 XDA mini site, and downloaded the software from there - Xda_Minis_Upgrade_v2.21.4.101. I redid the whole thing, this time with this software.
11. At the end I saw Congratulations! again, but this time the screen had gone back to 02 - and the numbers went back to what was in my original posting. But still the phone does not start - its just stuck at that 02 screen with the 4 red lines.
12. Somone help me please!!! Have I made it worse???
Jocelyn
The Love ROM should work on your phone since it it does not have IPL/SPL (AFAIKnow). However, it seems that the phone itself already have a bit of problem itself. Using the "Xda_Minis_Upgrade_v2.21.4.101" to flash the phone in bootloader mode is the wise thing to do. Probably you'll need to hardreset it again (i.e. what you've done in the very first post).
As far as I can see, you've did nothing wrong on your first post. It seems to be the phone problem. ANYWAY, you may want to note the little issues. Example, do not have the miniSD card in the phone when doing all the stuff said above.. and possible, remove the SIM as well.
Also, sometimes, it takes ages for it to boot up. I'm not sure how long you've waited, but I would say.. give it a good 5 mins to do its bootup to confirm it hanged.
Sorry
I should have mentioned - in both cases when I ran the utility, once I waited at the splash screen for more than 10 minutes and nothing happened, i just tried to do a hard reset. In both cases the words came up, press send to do a reset etc...
but when I press the left (green phone) button (i think that is the send button?) it says format failed everytime.
I searched at some other thread and followed what Zabardast_1 says about flashing and I tried that, it does not work. Is there any other option? Oh i also tried it another time, this time disabling Anti Virus first - but still no luck
Jocelyn
Hmm.. I'm sorry to tell you. Since you have a 'Format fail', you 'officially' have a bricked device. That has something to do with the hardware.. or stuff that doesnt have any thing to do with your flashing.. probably CID unlocking may cause this problem.
ANYWAY, it seems that your only choice is to get it to somewhere to have it fixed. probably you want to make it as official (i.e. use the O2 ROM) before taking it to O2 to have it fixed.

Help!! Tmobile Wing Dead!

Hi,
Yesterday, all of a sudden, my Tmobile Wing started vibrating and it wouldn't stop. I took a look at it and the front two lights displayed red and blue during this vibration episode. The only way I could stop it was by taking the battery out. After reinstalling it, I did a soft boot and it turned back on and worked perfectly fine for about eight more hours. Then, last night, it started vibrating again on it's own so I did the same exact thing as earlier in the day.
This time, it did not respond to a soft boot. It won't respond to a hard boot either. It won't take a charge (or at register it's taking a charge). Nothing!
The only thing that displays is a little BLUE light on the keyboard where it says, ALT. If I remove the battery, the light goes out. Once I insert the battery again, the blue Alt light goes back on. The phone is completely dead otherwise.
I have not done any hacks, updates, changes whatsoever. It didn't get wet and was not dropped.
Any possible ideas what the little blue light is supposed to mean? It's got to be some kind of service code or something? I'm pretty sure the battery still has a charge, but I haven't tried a new one. I even tried the plugging in the AC adapter and the phone still wouldn't respond at all. Is there any reason to think the computer would recognize it with the USB cable when it won't even power up?
Any solutions or where to turn with this thing? I think the little blue ALT light must signify some error code possibly......
Thanks.
it's the ALT key..
so you can input the blue characters on the keyboard.
you're phone is possessed.. sorry
can it go into bootloader mode(hold camera key and pole hole on side)?
if it can just flash a new rom into it or the original tmobile stock rom.
Have you hard-resetted your phone?
Which ROM are you using?

what cube did you install?
well install ftouchflo config by schaps and enable ftouchflo
i suggest you uninstall your cube and install slithers cube here.
then either get ftouchflo config or get the _ftouchflo_config.txt file from the windows folder and make the down-up gesture to be slithers cube.

uhmm...no.
hard boot does not = hard-reset.
boot = to load your device.
there's no such thing as a hard boot or is there?
i assumed this person meant a power cycle..because if the device is not booting even after performing a hard reset command via hardware keys..blablablah..
saying you have a wing does not mention which of the stock ROMs is on the device.
so yeah... my questions werent answered.. :/

I might be using the words 'reboot' and 'reset' interchangeably (incorrect or not). What I have attempted to do is a soft reset by depressing the little hole by the volume control. This is what worked the first time for me. The phone will NOT respond to that now.
In attempting a hard reset, I pressed the two buttons on the front marked with a '-' at the same time as depressing the same hole. Nothing responds to this at all. Is this the corrrect procedure for a factory reset?
I'm not sure the exact ROM installed. I have not changed it at all since the phone was purchased, so it's original. Since the phone doesn't even work now, doesn't seem like I can find out the ROM version.

continue holding the 2 soft keys, don't release. a warning should appear.. if you press the 'Send' key... the send call/talk/etc button.. then it should initiate a dealer specified ("hard")reset.. if you press any other buttons, it will ignore the attempted hard reset.
if that doesn't happen.. then that's very uncool....
Well, after trying just about everything, I've pretty much accepted there's got to be some sort of 'short' to the motherboard. I think the ALT light constantly on signifies the phone thinks that key is indefinitely in a depressed state. Or something like that...........
same thing happened to my phone. does anyone know if there's a known fix for this?

Hermes wont boot - 4 color bars - help please

Hello everyone. After some researching, this seemed like the best site to answer my question, as I have not found an answer yet.
Yesterday morning, I was running my ATT 8525 (which I believe you refer to as "hermes") just fine. I was using the internet sharing feature, and went to reset the phone. I "believe" I pressed the power button while pressing the "ptt- push to talk" - button. The phone turned off, and when I turned the phone back on, rather than loading like it normally did, I got a new screen.
The screen has 4 color bars. A red bar at the top, then a green bar, then a blue bar, and last, a white bar of color on the bottom. Each bar takes up 1/4 of the screen and runs horizontally. At the top, the phone says, in white text:
HERM100
1PL-1.04
HERM100
SPL-2.03
At the bottom of the screen, in the white bar of color, in black text, it says
SERIAL
Now, when I press the power button to turn the phone off, nothing happens. I have to remove the battery to shut off the power. If I plug in a USB cable, the SERIAL text changes to USB. If I press the top two buttons, the one above window and the one above ok, while pressing the stick in to reset the phone, that screen works ok. I believe it is called a "hard reset" It asks if I want to erase all data and restore factory settings, and if so, press r. I press R on the keyboard, and the screen then says reset complete, press space. I press space and then I am back to the screen with 4 color bars. Nothing else I have tried works either. I have been stuck on this screen with 4 color bars since yesterday.
I took my cell phone in to ATT to be looked at and the sales people at the store say that I am 7 days past my warranty, and that they can't/won't repair the phone, but they would be happy to sell me a brand new one... for several hundred dollars.
So, the folks on the internet are my last hope =( If anyone reading this knows anything, even if it is a link to another site or something, that may help me resolve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. If not, I at least thank you for your time reading my post.
- Wormling
Oh, as an additional thought, if it helps, I have not used any of these :baked: roms or any such thing. I bought my phone and used it as is. The one and only change I ever did to my phone was I followed ATT's steps on upgrading from Windows Mobile 5 to Windows Mobile 6, if I remember their names correctly. Hope this helps.
Bootloader. This is the name of the screen according to my research.
"Is your device able to boot Windows Mobile OS?
This one is easy: If can you see your today screen and use your phone as a PDA means you can boot OS. If you only see the splash screen, bootloader screen (tri-color) or windows mobile splash screen you can't boot OS."
Got this from the thread at
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
So, I guess I am stuck at the bootloader screen.
Try a Hard reset - hold both soft keys and reset with stylus. Hold in until it asks to reset to factory (whatever). Press "r" on the slideout keyboard and then space. You should go back throught the setup PPC steps.
YOU WILL LOOSE ALL INFORMATION ON YOUR HERMES...This is unescapable as you would any other way you tried to recover your Hermes too.
I suggest if you get it working to install Hard SPL V7 (makes recovery easier) and also pim backup so you can restore all your contacts/messages if something goes wrong again.
Cheers... & good luck.
I have tried hard resetting many times, and it does not work. It says that it succeeds and that factory settings have been restored, and then I am back to the bootloader screen. I have been to the wiki on bricked hermes phones and recovering from a brick. From that, I ascertain I have a type 2 bricked phone (goes directly to bootloader screen). I tried the MTTY tool, and it says that the NAND write was successful on both commands, but, I am still stuck at bootloader screen. I have since tried installing a few different roms, even in SSLL and HARDSPL modes, and nothing has worked.
What I have not tried is the JPIN fix, as I am not an engineer and don't have the tools or knowledge on how to do that. I also don't know how to do the microsoft operating system download fix (using an emulator?)
** UPDATE **
I think it might have been the mtty commands, but I took the battery out overnight, and when I put the battery back in to try the KITL attempt, the phone booted up and started to do the config. I was happy and thought that the phone was fixed, but when it was done with the configurating the phone, it reset back into boot loader screen -_-
You may need to check for bad blocks. This sometimes causes the problems you descibe as well as spontaneous Hard Resets and occasional soft resets.
Do a search for "how to fix bad blocks hermes" and you should get the info you need...
Hope this helps...
