Hi All
Nice to be here, have a newbie question I have just aquired an xda2 which I have successfuly sim unlocked and am using an Orange sim, is there anyway to de O2 the front end boot screens and also put in Orange wap ,fax and internet settings.
Cheers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238217
Splash Image == bootscreen
wap and internet settings == settings which can always be changed by hand or cab file
fax == 3th party program
Cheers for that its a bit hard to follow, rom unlocker etc and cab files .I have a basic computer knowledge but struggle with some software and programming. One of the reasons I joined the forum was to learn my way around xda's because they are a useful piece of kit
if you by rom unlocker mean extended rom unlocker then
extended rom is kinda like a dir in normal windows pc which is
hidden and readonly
what the extended rom contain is cab files
cab files is installation files for pocketpc
when the device is started the first time all cab files in the extented rom are auto run and installed onto the device
p.s.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Himalaya <--- good read for a newbie in the world of windows mobile from htc
Thanks Rudegar
So the Extended Rom is a hidden parition is there a copy of the rom unlocker in the forum or can it be purchased from a site. The link you gave me looks interesting.I have a tour of night duty next week so I will get to grips with it then.
cheers
buzzdev.net have an unlocker
otherwise google would know too

hi,
thanks to the support on this site i was able to unlock my o2 xda. the new rom of your special xda-rom was installed. as it is only in english i would like to have a german rom again..... downloading and installing the o2 or t-mobile updates always failed. the rom-image wasn't found or the active sync-connection failed.... is there a german tool available?
cook 4.00.33 or 4.01.19 based ROM in the kitchen and use the SD method
o2 rom german
thx for your quick help. downloaded rom kitchen yesterday. but there is no executable file resp. can't find my handheld in the winzip unzip-folders.... furthermore i am a beginners and did not really understand how to use the sd-card. if i try to install the progamme a from o2 i always get default "rom image not compatible" or even "can't establish active snyc connection" (even if xda is connected and syncronized the other data correctly.
I think your choices are either to get used to the English OS, or to look around a bit more on this site to learn the SD-method.
I would personally opt for the first choice, but being from Sweden I really don't have a choice. There isn't such a beast as a Swedish WM 2003 for the xda :-(
SD method is quite easy .. cook ur ROM as .nbf file ... copy this file to the SD card using the xda with XDAtools or a SD reader/writer .. insert the card in ur xda and goto the boot loader screen .. it will automatically flash ur ROM
I've seen a bit on this site about converting a UK T-Mobile MDA Compact to newer english versions but not for the German T-Mobile MDA Compact. As a novice to this stuff I have three questions:
1) Is it the same procedure for my German T-Mobile MDA Compact as it is for the UK version?
2) Can anyone please give me the link to the newest download for the files I need? (not sure I have it)
3) this is what I plan to do (see instructions below) - got it from JFRAN at www.modaco.com's website. It seems that I need both the rom and this maupgradeut_noid file... I'm not sure I've found the most recent rom file and I havent seen the file maupgrade file with the exact same name on the ftp site here... I've already asked for a link to the most update file, but can someone confirm these directions look ok?
Thanks.

Any of the experts willing to put a step by step guide to installing the 1.11 . i have a T mobile MDA , and it all seems so complicated . I am bricking it that I will end up with a dead device .
Tricky stuff, but can be done.
If you are able to get hold of the imate rom, you will need to extract its files and install the upgrade executable file.... esay isnt it
Ok here it goes
1. Download the Rom file
2. Right click and extract to a named folder
3. You should end up with about 6 individual files; ms.nb1, radio.nb1, nk.nb1 ruu.conf, ruu.dll, enterbl, getdevicedata and maupgradeut, the maupgradeut is the file that runs the upgrade if you were an imate user, however as a MDA user you need to get hold of the maupgradeut_noid file which could be obtained over the net or from the xda developers site.
4. Once you have this maup....noid file you will need to add this to the folder created above as this is the file needed to initiate the upgrade.
5. In activesync, click on file and connection settings and untick the USB connection.
6. Connect the phone to the USB, and run the maupdateut_noid,
7. The upgrade wizard wil start, go through a few checks then eventually come up with the coutry Id error.
8. Run the maupgradeut_noid file again and this time it should allow you to run the wizard.
9. The process should then go through 3 stages which should last about 10 - 15 minutes.
10. When finished you should get the upgrade successful notification and a promt to reset the device
11. Hope that helps.
German MDA Compact to English with latest JamWWE Rom
Hi There
I have recently undergone this excercise on a new German MDA Compact and after undergoing lots of reading here and trying a few things. I have decided to contribute this back to the community.
Note ensure you have a backup of your original ROM and your contacts and personal data in case of errors etc There are quite a few posts covering this in the forum.
1. Download the zip file at ftp link ftp://xda:[email protected]ers.com/Uploads/Magician/ and select the JamROM_111.132WWE_noID_mod.zip file
2. Download, Unzip and extract to a named folder for instance c:\imate
3. You should end up with about 6 individual files; ms.nb1, radio.nb1, nk.nb1 ruu.conf, ruu.dll, enterbl, getdevicedata and ROMUpgradeUt (this is the MAUpgradeUT_Noid file renamed so there is no need to download anything extra):
for info the maupgradeut is the file that runs the upgrade if you were an iMate user, however as a MDA user you need to get hold of the maupgradeut_noid file which could be obtained over the net or from the XDA developers site.
5. In ActiveSync, click on file and connection settings and untick the USB connection.(Very Important)
6. Connect the phone to the USB and turn the phone into bootloader mode (Camera & Power and Soft reset)
7. Run RomupgradeUt from c:\imate folder
7. The upgrade wizard will start, go through a few checks and proceed with the upgrade (normally you would eventually come up with the country ID error)
8. The process should then go through 3 stages which should last about 15 - 20 minutes.
9. Lastly do a soft reset and you should see your MDA German compact with a new WWE (WorldWide English) ROM
10. In ActiveSync, click on file and connection settings and tick the USB connection so that you can see the device for ActiveSync. Plug in USB and perform yor sync and start the process of moving your data and programs across.
I do hope this helps!
PS I was think of compiling a short illustrated guide taking a lead from some Spanish posts on this matter, let me know what you think.
Excellent! Thanks so much - now have an english MDA!!! And I like the update better too! Definitely like the new color of the number pad
Had a little problem getting to USB mode when I did a hard boot... had to do it a second time after it was already connected and hold the reset for longer... but otherwise all was perfectly clear.
Thanks again!
I love you people
Oh Man, excellent instructions, excellent file, excellent, excellent. I have a T-mobile MDA compact with a Chinese Version of the Pocket PC. downloaded the Jam ROM, installed it. work like a charm. Thanks for the advice, instruction and files.
Hi,
I just went into ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Magician/ and it is empty? has it been moved as I would like to follow the proceedure and update my MDA as well.
Many Thanks
The ftp gets re-organised from what I have seen
Goto the ftp site Magician folder, shipped roms folder
Download rom of choice preferably the latest WWE revision, ensure you have the MAUpgradeUT tool this will ignore the country ID error.
And follow the standard install instructions in the previous posts
Have fun
German to English Rom
Many Thanks, but one question I have seen in other strings that the ROM is 250Mg this one is a lot smaller?
German to English for MDA
OK Fantastic, I now found the ROM followed the instructions above and now have a great English device
Thanks to all that helped me....
PLEASE HELP (FAILURE DURING INSTALATION OF NEW ENGLISH ROM)
Please somenone help me!
A try according to your manuals to change rom from german to english and during the instalallation the blue screen on my computer appeared and it restarted.. My MDA has only tvo words on its display: above Usp and bellow v1.02 . It doesnt work... How can I now finish installation, bescause actvS can not connect phone with my computer... It looks like it's dead...please help...
Don't worry, you in bootloader now. Just run the maupgradeut_noid.exe & the upgrade will start. Might be that you need to uncheck the usb connection allowed in Act.Sync. You're Magician is far from dead in surely you can fix it either with a shipped or with the maupgradeut_noid or with sd flash.
So just relax & restart your executable.
Cheers, M
Dear All,
Is it possible to unlock the SIM on universal
Is tit possible to change the language on the phone from french to English
Can you please guide me on how to do the above as I dont speak french
Is it possible to save the current settings on the phone if the above fails
as the operator sayzs that the warrantz on the phone is void if the language is changed or the SIM is unlocked
My current configuration
operatpor 7.113.5.132
Rom version 1.13.51 FRE
Rom Date 22-09-2005
Radio 1.03.00
Protocol Version 42.36.P8
Ext rom 1.13.132 FRE
I can help you change language from french to english.
Doesn't your Universal have a place where you can download the french ROM? If not, it is still possible to backup the french ROM. A little complicated, but i'm sure i can walk you thru the process.
Regarding the unlocking, i don't think it is possible at the moments. The geniuses are working on it but as of now, you can have it unlocked thru your provider. Just pay the fee (which i think is around 20-30€)
Dear Jorgee,
I would appreciatte if you can walk me htrough the language change, I have tried the provider which is orange switherland, that the lock is definite
A Bellah
First step is to tell me which ROM you would like? O2, Qtek, Imate or T-Mobile?
and i assume you would like it in english?
Just tell me what ROM you need and i will walk you thru it
Dear Jorge
My current configuration

and I want to change into english
Which of the following ROM's would you like?
O2
QTEK
IMATE
Take note, flashing the ROM/Changing the language doesnt get rid of the SIM Lock

I guess if you want the fastest or newest? The fastest in MY opinion is the QTEK because it has few customizations. The newest I believe is O2 ROM
Regarding Phone configurations of Orange, the configurations are set thru a .CAB file which is stored in Extended ROM. All you have to do before changing ROM is to backup the extended ROM, then Flash the device to english, then run the CAB file that has the Orange customizations.
If you can give me a list of the files in your Extended ROM, i'll do my best to explain what each file does
Dear Jorge,
I guess I will use the same as youy which I thinkl would be the qtek.
Ok where do i get the programme to back upo the extended rom
Thanks
Backing up extended rom, have to install Total Commander. Then in total commander, type \EXTENDED_ROM which will show you the contents of the extended ROM. Just copy to the SD card and save in your computer, that's how you backup extended ROM
For backing up the OS ROM, refer to this thread as it was BUZZ that helped me find out what to do.
Its : http://www.buzzdev.net/index.php?op...=view&id=8573&catid=33&limit=15&limitstart=15
Just download the file at the bottom of this page (page 2) then continue on to page 3 and 4 which explains how to do it. Just PM me regarding where you are already and I will walk you thru the rest as I have already done the procedure
Hello Jorgee,
I got to this stage and created the file on the desktop but I tried to run the command in dos but I got an error message
Where can I download the qtek rom from
Thanks

What command did you enter that caused you to get an error message?
go here ftp://xda:xdaftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Universal/Shipped ROMs and download UNI_Qtek_WWE_11364_151_10300_Ship.exe for the English ROM.
are you sure you don't want to backup your ROM first?
Just drop me a message if you get lost.
dos command
i want to back it up first but I am getting the folowing error on the dos command
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.
C:\> pdocread 0x0 0x3FA0000 QTEK.RAW
'pdocread' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.
Did you install EnableRapi on the PPC first before doing this?
THen you have to disable the USB connect option of ActiveSync,
Then enter Bootloader mode on yor universal,
then connect it to the computer,
then run the pdocread
is this what you did?
no I followed the articel your refered me to, I ran the enable rapi, then connected to the usb and then ran the programme.
I also tryed to download the qtek system but the link you gave me does not let me acess the site
you have to put xda:xda in the link as this is the username and password. Or use an ftp program to access the site, this might be easier
I put it in the bootloader state and still the same message
I put it in the bootloader state and still the same message, but the message on the article you refered me toi says not to do so, I have tried both methods and cantr seem to be able to get it done
Sorry, but i don't know what to say. Are you using the original cable?

Hi Guys
Have unlocked the extended rom on an m600 using Buzz's rom unlocker (nice work mate), and have removed files, but cant seem to get the cab files i want in there to run, they look like they are running but dont actually do anything.
Anyone had this problem, if you haevhow did you solve it.
I used aWizard on my M600. The Extended rom is then on your PC, transfer selected cab's to SD card and they run ok. The only ones I have activated are enable Edge Icon and disconnect GPRS.
Hi guys I have 2 questions,
1: I have a MDA Compact 2 that has customised firmware by my employer, some application automatically install when its first turned on after a reset , I have just bought a second one as a spare, is there a way of cloning the firmware from the first one to the new spare?
2: is there a way of using the MDA as a Modem on my pc? We have web and talk but wool prefer to get internet via my laptop?
thanks
1. What brand are you in? T-mobile German, Czech? Which one?
2. Flash wm6, there is an easy way of sharing the MDA Compact II internet connection for PC.
its T-Mobile UK, i cant risk going to WM6 becuase of the mod's by my employer, it runs custom software.
If its been modified by extended rom only to install custom software/settings etc then you can just use Total Commander and browse to \Extended_Rom\ then copy all the files out of it. then on the other device, skip the original customization by soft reseting when its says its about to start, then install the list of extracted cabs from the business device.
For a bit more involved, you can take all the extracted files, build them into an image and then flash them to the other device overwriting the tmobile stuff so they'll always be on there.
If you pair the laptop with the phone, it should detect the presence of a bluetooth modem (not on AKU 3+ tho) which you can then use on the laptop as a new connection dialling *99#
Hi thanks for the reply, I have followed the instructions from here,
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Use+my+MDA+as+a+Modem?t=anon
but I am having a problem, when it says select access point name I do have any to chose, it just says none?
Any ideas
i have tryied ot on none but it dont work
I think its general.t-mobile.uk
but it wont let me type anything in?
