Hi guys I have 2 questions,
1: I have a MDA Compact 2 that has customised firmware by my employer, some application automatically install when its first turned on after a reset , I have just bought a second one as a spare, is there a way of cloning the firmware from the first one to the new spare?
2: is there a way of using the MDA as a Modem on my pc? We have web and talk but wool prefer to get internet via my laptop?
thanks
1. What brand are you in? T-mobile German, Czech? Which one?
2. Flash wm6, there is an easy way of sharing the MDA Compact II internet connection for PC.
its T-Mobile UK, i cant risk going to WM6 becuase of the mod's by my employer, it runs custom software.
If its been modified by extended rom only to install custom software/settings etc then you can just use Total Commander and browse to \Extended_Rom\ then copy all the files out of it. then on the other device, skip the original customization by soft reseting when its says its about to start, then install the list of extracted cabs from the business device.
For a bit more involved, you can take all the extracted files, build them into an image and then flash them to the other device overwriting the tmobile stuff so they'll always be on there.
If you pair the laptop with the phone, it should detect the presence of a bluetooth modem (not on AKU 3+ tho) which you can then use on the laptop as a new connection dialling *99#
Hi thanks for the reply, I have followed the instructions from here,
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Use+my+MDA+as+a+Modem?t=anon
but I am having a problem, when it says select access point name I do have any to chose, it just says none?
Any ideas
i have tryied ot on none but it dont work
I think its general.t-mobile.uk
but it wont let me type anything in?

I'm new to this forum and it seems like a great resource. I have seen this question answered but the answers are still above my head in terms of complexity. I've got an AT&T branded SX56 running 2002 and an XDA-Developers ROM (I think). It is unlocked, I am guessing through the use of an XDA Developers tool for unlocking. I'm in Colorado and using the phone with T-mobile. My question is this, I'd like to upgrade to 2003 and have downloaded the file to do so from Siemens website for free, which is great. It had some nice enhancements and I thought I'd upgrade to it. So, I downloaded/installed the new ActiveSync v3.71 and then tried to run the upgrade. I got the same message many have gotten apparently saying that the ROM Image is not compatible. The specs are;
current
Model PW10A1
ROM 3.17
English
upgraded
Model PW10B1
ROM A.30
English
In reading through the posts it seems that I need to upgrade the ROM of the device, but I still get lost looking at "cooking a ROM", etc and what exactly I need to do. Making this a little more urgent is the fact that after I tried to upgrade the phone (which gave me the ROM error) my internet connection on the phone (which was working fine) suddenly doesn't work with explorer or outlook on my phone giving me an error "Trouble Connecting; Unable to connect with current settings" even though I didn't change the settings and they look exactly as they did before. So, I feel like I've messed something else up on the phone even though it didn't get to install the whole upgrade.
So, any advice for a novice? Thanks in advance, I appreciate any help you can give.
Best regards,
chefandy
the official AT&T release for WM2003 is an exe file contains both ROM & RSU upgrade, and it aparently designed for PW10B devices (900/1900 MHz).
i think the first part of the faulty upgrade (usually RSU) affected your device ... i really hope not
chech your device info and tell us what's there. if u can still get to the boot loader screen and activesync can still connect to the device, then it's not a severe damage. I think successful RSU upgrade with the right stack would solve it.
I'm not sure what the boot loader screen is, but the device still syncs just fine and seems to be working ok except for the internet connection issue. The funny part is that I can connect to the GPRS connection by going to the connections screen, but then when I transfer to Outlook or Explorer they do not recognize the connection as something they can use.
Is the Siemens upgrade I downloaded (http://www.my-siemens.com/MySiemens...C%2FMC%2FSX56POCKETPCPHONE%2Fdanda%2F,00.html) different from the AT&T upgrade you mention? I also saw there was a T-mobile upgrade to 2003 but it was not available when I tried to download it from tmobile.com. Thanks!
That's great! .. ... It seems I misunderstood your issue ... I thought you lost the RSU part.
I think something wrong happens to the registry values ... you see, there is a reference for each defined connection in the registry which all applications that may require to connect to GPRS or WAP or MMS can refer to.
I suggest that you delet ALL connections and start the setting from scratch ... I can't guarantee it will work since some applications may be required to be uninstalled and reinstalled to use the new connections references (if it has smart uninstaller!!).
The last resort is a hard reset which will bring the registry to the original setup.
Well, I did what you suggested and started with a new connection and it worked  Thanks!
Now I'm back to the original question about whether or not I can safely upgrade to WM2003 or not? Thanks again for all your help.
The answer is YES! ... it's easy to upgrade ur ROM to WM2003 if u know what ur doing.
spend some time reading this forum on how to cook a new ROM from the kitchen ... and it's better to get yourself SD card for flashing and backup.
hi there, my mates xda mini on t-mobile was lost on his device as he tried to install a version that wasnt meant for his device, now he dont have any OS as it removed the rom and couldnt install the other, so its a clean device, i have downloaded the rom from the FTP site and i find the file is
tmobile.nb1
how do i get this installed on his device???
im new to this myself and no idea how to do it, i have heard this and that among the forums and i am assuming that you transfer this to an SD card and install it from there, if this is what you do then how do you do it??? is it simple, or is there an extractor i can use to turn it into an installer????
PLEASE HELP,
its not a process for the light hearted, however is it a xda mini your friend has or the mda compact, without the clarification we cant really progress.
All he needs if it is the mini is to install the xda mini rom files, however if it is the compact you will need to do a bit more.
Reply if further assistance is needed
jim
it is the mda compact, what he did was 9as he is new to this stuff0 tried to install an xda2s software to it, and it took his old rom off the device, it then tried to install then he got the error message and would not go any further, now as mentioned earlier, i have the file from the ftp site which im guessing more and more now that i just put that file on an sd card, and flash it, only thing is, it mentions something somewhere i read that you need to copy files from the old rom which he dont have and i dont have access to. what do i do, as he is going to india for 6 months in 4 weeks and if he sends it away for repair he wont get it back in time... and im his only hope as it happened to me, only thing, i have xda 2s and im on o2, so i just got the rom from here, which was an installer from the pc through the usb connection...
please help!!!!
So I can assume that the screen just says serial on top and v1.00 at the bottom, ie the bootloder screen, if this is the case there is some hope however you will need a few tools and some patience
ntrw
romupdate utility
SD card reader / writer
at least 256MB SD card
once you have that, just follow the instructions for the ananasky ROM update, however the rom that you will be patching is the tmobile.nb1 one on the ftp site, or you could go ahead and try the anansky patch itself
as before let me konw how u are progressing

I've seen a bit on this site about converting a UK T-Mobile MDA Compact to newer english versions but not for the German T-Mobile MDA Compact. As a novice to this stuff I have three questions:
1) Is it the same procedure for my German T-Mobile MDA Compact as it is for the UK version?
2) Can anyone please give me the link to the newest download for the files I need? (not sure I have it)
3) this is what I plan to do (see instructions below) - got it from JFRAN at www.modaco.com's website. It seems that I need both the rom and this maupgradeut_noid file... I'm not sure I've found the most recent rom file and I havent seen the file maupgrade file with the exact same name on the ftp site here... I've already asked for a link to the most update file, but can someone confirm these directions look ok?
Thanks.
From Jfran at: http://www.modaco.com/New_JAM_rom_from_iMate-t206571.html
Any of the experts willing to put a step by step guide to installing the 1.11 . i have a T mobile MDA , and it all seems so complicated . I am bricking it that I will end up with a dead device .
Tricky stuff, but can be done.
If you are able to get hold of the imate rom, you will need to extract its files and install the upgrade executable file.... esay isnt it
Ok here it goes
1. Download the Rom file
2. Right click and extract to a named folder
3. You should end up with about 6 individual files; ms.nb1, radio.nb1, nk.nb1 ruu.conf, ruu.dll, enterbl, getdevicedata and maupgradeut, the maupgradeut is the file that runs the upgrade if you were an imate user, however as a MDA user you need to get hold of the maupgradeut_noid file which could be obtained over the net or from the xda developers site.
4. Once you have this maup....noid file you will need to add this to the folder created above as this is the file needed to initiate the upgrade.
5. In activesync, click on file and connection settings and untick the USB connection.
6. Connect the phone to the USB, and run the maupdateut_noid,
7. The upgrade wizard wil start, go through a few checks then eventually come up with the coutry Id error.
8. Run the maupgradeut_noid file again and this time it should allow you to run the wizard.
9. The process should then go through 3 stages which should last about 10 - 15 minutes.
10. When finished you should get the upgrade successful notification and a promt to reset the device
11. Hope that helps.
German MDA Compact to English with latest JamWWE Rom
Hi There
I have recently undergone this excercise on a new German MDA Compact and after undergoing lots of reading here and trying a few things. I have decided to contribute this back to the community.
Note ensure you have a backup of your original ROM and your contacts and personal data in case of errors etc There are quite a few posts covering this in the forum.
1. Download the zip file at ftp link ftp://xda:[email protected]ers.com/Uploads/Magician/ and select the JamROM_111.132WWE_noID_mod.zip file
2. Download, Unzip and extract to a named folder for instance c:\imate
3. You should end up with about 6 individual files; ms.nb1, radio.nb1, nk.nb1 ruu.conf, ruu.dll, enterbl, getdevicedata and ROMUpgradeUt (this is the MAUpgradeUT_Noid file renamed so there is no need to download anything extra):
for info the maupgradeut is the file that runs the upgrade if you were an iMate user, however as a MDA user you need to get hold of the maupgradeut_noid file which could be obtained over the net or from the XDA developers site.
5. In ActiveSync, click on file and connection settings and untick the USB connection.(Very Important)
6. Connect the phone to the USB and turn the phone into bootloader mode (Camera & Power and Soft reset)
7. Run RomupgradeUt from c:\imate folder
7. The upgrade wizard will start, go through a few checks and proceed with the upgrade (normally you would eventually come up with the country ID error)
8. The process should then go through 3 stages which should last about 15 - 20 minutes.
9. Lastly do a soft reset and you should see your MDA German compact with a new WWE (WorldWide English) ROM
10. In ActiveSync, click on file and connection settings and tick the USB connection so that you can see the device for ActiveSync. Plug in USB and perform yor sync and start the process of moving your data and programs across.
I do hope this helps!
PS I was think of compiling a short illustrated guide taking a lead from some Spanish posts on this matter, let me know what you think.
Excellent! Thanks so much - now have an english MDA!!! And I like the update better too! Definitely like the new color of the number pad
Had a little problem getting to USB mode when I did a hard boot... had to do it a second time after it was already connected and hold the reset for longer... but otherwise all was perfectly clear.
Thanks again!
I love you people
Oh Man, excellent instructions, excellent file, excellent, excellent. I have a T-mobile MDA compact with a Chinese Version of the Pocket PC. downloaded the Jam ROM, installed it. work like a charm. Thanks for the advice, instruction and files.
Hi,
I just went into ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Magician/ and it is empty? has it been moved as I would like to follow the proceedure and update my MDA as well.
Many Thanks
The ftp gets re-organised from what I have seen
Goto the ftp site Magician folder, shipped roms folder
Download rom of choice preferably the latest WWE revision, ensure you have the MAUpgradeUT tool this will ignore the country ID error.
And follow the standard install instructions in the previous posts
Have fun
German to English Rom
Many Thanks, but one question I have seen in other strings that the ROM is 250Mg this one is a lot smaller?
German to English for MDA
OK Fantastic, I now found the ROM followed the instructions above and now have a great English device
Thanks to all that helped me....
PLEASE HELP (FAILURE DURING INSTALATION OF NEW ENGLISH ROM)
Please somenone help me!
A try according to your manuals to change rom from german to english and during the instalallation the blue screen on my computer appeared and it restarted.. My MDA has only tvo words on its display: above Usp and bellow v1.02 . It doesnt work... How can I now finish installation, bescause actvS can not connect phone with my computer... It looks like it's dead...please help...
Don't worry, you in bootloader now. Just run the maupgradeut_noid.exe & the upgrade will start. Might be that you need to uncheck the usb connection allowed in Act.Sync. You're Magician is far from dead in surely you can fix it either with a shipped or with the maupgradeut_noid or with sd flash.
So just relax & restart your executable.
Cheers, M
Hello:
is it possible to get the Blackberry software ONLY for the XDA II? the O2 website only supplies it as part of a full ROM upgrade which I don't want to do as my unit is set up perfectly and I don;t want to have to do a hard reset and build it all again??
Thanks
Just download the full ROM upgrade and use ROM Edit 2003 to extract the installation CAB file you need from the extended ROM.
To do this, you need to start the ROM upgrade process (you do not need to cradle your device to your computer).
When the program welcomes you, you do not respond but search your harddisk for nk.nbf (it should be located somewhere in c:\documents and settings).
Copy this file to another location on your harddrive.
Now you can cancel the ROM upgrade process.
Browse the nk.nbf (extended ROM file) using ROM Edit 2003 in order to locate the CAB file you need for Blackberry installation.
Extract the file from the extended ROM and copy it to your device.
Run it on your device and install there.
You might need to unlock and unhide your extended ROM on your device prior to installation.

RIM check the device software and radio build before they will allow the software to connect to their relay. So extracting the software only and trying to connect will have no effect - it will bounce the moment it detects an unapproved software combination.
We have our own BB server and GPRS aPN for the system ove rhere, do you think it will work on this equipment??
In theory, yes, but what I think you will find is that BB connects to its own APN then connects to your BES server. When you want to use "GPRS", it discos from the APN & will connect to yours.
So I think it's unlikely
Hmm -I've tried to get the NK.nbf file.
It does not seem to me on my computer any where, but the upgrade app does say it extracts it - maybe it stores it in RAM until the unit has been identified.
My XDA unit will not conect via serial to get the ROM file (I use BT to sync) as I dropped it once and the connector is damaged.
Any other ideas how I can get it? Is anyone willing to post the extended ROM
image for me?
Is there anyone have BlackBerry Connect App for WM2003, please?

i'm waiting too
and again a little topic:
I didn't install all that Branding-Stuff from the eROM, just the things needed, but now I need the GPRS-Settings, in the eROM, they are packed together with some branded-software, so I'd like to type it in manually.
I saw almost all the things I need to type in, but the password was written in *'s.
Can anybody tell me the things I need to run a GPRS-connection to T-Mobile Germany on my MDAc?
again greets, Nemesis
edit: I also recognized that I can't use the IE when I'm connected to the PC via USB. When I install the T-Mobile Software this works. What do I have to do to make it work?
