PLEASE can anyone help me??
This is crazy - I want to do a simple task - store my contacts somewhere whilst I do a ROM upgrade. Simple. Isn't it??
Well first I tried to sync them to Outlook, only to find that outlook express won't do, I have to use Outlook something else.
So I fished out the CD that came with the XDA II and installed outlook 2002 and activesync onto a branc new PC (didn't want outlook 2002 mucking up my emails on express).
But now outlook express is mucking around, and won't acknowledge the concept of a contact! Or and email account!! And I've been to the repair section in help, and it's convinced it's working fine.
This is turning into a bad day. Can't anyone give me a simple way to retain my contacts whilst doing a ROM upgrade? Surely there's a better way.....
Thank you so much for any help....

Should easily be done in Settings -> System -> Permanent save.. I'm actually doing this way, they're safe to hard reset, and should be also to rom upgrade as this is a restricted area where upgrade routines shouldn't go erasing anything.. anyone can confirm this?
Well if anyone CAN confirm that, it would be great! I'm not sure about it though, as I've had some trouble with a faulty battery, and lost some things that were supposed to be in permanent save.
Please - can anybody tell us if permanent save will save contacts during a ROM upgrade?
THANK YOU!

I use O2 XDA mini. I think Permanent Save has a design fault. I have over 2000 contacts. There are many contacts with the same last and first name. For example, David Chan. When I do a restore after a hard reset, if I have more than 1 David Chan, it will prompt me for duplicated contact, and ask me to "overwrite" or "skip". Both options end me up restoring only 1 David Chan, and I lost the remaining 3 or 4 David Chan. Permanent Save is totally "unsafe".
about the outlook and outlook express not liking eachother i would try looking in
controlplan->internet properties tab programs
and check the settings of email and contacts there
Hi
Sorry if this has been asked before. Searched for it but didn't find it...
I would like to manage my PHOTO Contacts from the PC (much in the same manner I manage normal Contacts with Outlook. Is there any software for this?
I thank you in advance.
Thanks
Not that Im aware of but how about remote controlling ? Something like Pocket Controller will allow you to use your PC keyboard / mouse and have your phones display on-screen.
Just a thought
Yes, that's as far as I got trying to solve the problem, too. I was hoping there was a way around it. Maybe importing the phone contacts database or something....

Well, saw this for a while ago, but kind of lost the use of it since the web-version of facebook does everything a user needs... So, why re-invent the wheel unless someone has a good idéa?
Something to sync the calendar on Facebook with the calendar on your WM phone? Or the contacts? Or upload all the images from your phone.
(Admittedly it would be fine just to sync them with outlook or an Exchange server, but not everyone uses those POS systems....).
Anyone got any other ideas?
im also loooking forward for a Windows app as i cant stay w/o fb for a long time

Hmm... might be a good idea - Anyone else who is interested in the topics mentioned above?
Don't have alot of time right now since the exam-periode is comming, but if I have time I might fix atleast the calendar and contact application But I'll post a reply in the thread if I'm up to it
Hey-
I was thinking of an idea but couldnt even begin to code it.
Something along the lines of full contact list integration. As in complete synching of contacts in phone with birthdays, addresses, etc. Complete integration with a contact manager so that you can view someones pics, write on their wall, etc without a browser, almost as if the data were stored in your phone. SMS like wall posts and messages and calendar synching. If anyone likes this idea and would like to work with me on it, I would be willing to make a photoshot mockup of what I am imagining to better get my point acreoo, but I think full and seamless browser-less integration would be amazing!
i use the Fonebook application to sync with outlook but I think a facebook program would be a great addition like adding events to my calendar, syncing photos with outlook, birthdays and whatever else. I think the mobile facebook experience would be improved with a program.

WOW...is no one making a facebook app? It would seriously be the icing on the cake for WM. Someone contact me, and we can work on it together!
there is one i found called snap2face which allows you to browse pictures and save them to your device. its pretty basic and definitely needs some tweaking to speed up load times but for a beta its not too bad.
Bump....
So im working on something but it would really be nice if someone wanted to work on it with me. I think there is a lot of potential here.
any progress on this?
I've seen a few references to this, but no answers and/or solutions. Does anyone know if it's possible to put the poutlook from wm6 into wm5? I would guess theoretically, it should be, since it's just files. But I have no idea which ones, or if on a non-upgradeable rom phone (treo for instance) they could be replaced.
I saw a thread here stating that the Office Mobile 6.1 upgrade allows html email in wm5, but I tried that, and it doesn't do it Can't do wm6 on a 700wx and html email is a big issue for me (via activesync - even flexmail won't do html email in that, only pop/imap)
Any ideas? I'd really appreciate anything anyone might know
Thanks much!
No one has any info? Looking for a way to get html email on wm5 through activesync essentially... It seems it should be possible. Even if someone knew what files poutlook used I can mess around myself...
yeah because its a dull question,
just backup, with pimbackup for example..

What are you talking about? I'm looking to get html email through activesync on wm5. How does backing up do anything for that? As for copying the files (which drag and drop I imagine would work) I don't know all the files involved in poutlook - dlls and such. I'm sure it's more than just the exe.
OK I know we've been here before and I may be in the wrong section, but I need an alternative to activesync which will allow me to sync contacts and such with the pc.
Before anyone goes the normal route, this has been a problem for over a year. At this time I dare not allow activesync to control my contacts as it will not do what it should. It will delete my ppc contacts and I have been trying all the info I could find without success. Right now, all my contacts have again been deleted from outlook but my backup of the contacts on my phones are safe thanks to spb backup. I just have no way I know of to get them onto my computer without typing them all in again.
I don't want a Microsoft answer. Activesync just cannot be relied on (since 3.7 anyway) and I need something else. God knows what would possess Mr Gates to allow this piece of crap out into the world and I have had as much as I can take. I have done all the things I have found on this forum since being forced onto v4 and nothing cures it. All I can do right now is copy my contacts backup from spb and transfer my contacts between my xda's.
Please help before I go bald.
........
did you find a solution? For my Activesync has failed completely.
