I just got my qtek 9100 and it came installed with pocket msn. Is there anyway I can remove this as I dont have a hotmail account and dont want the hotmail inbox. .... or is there another way of removing just the inbox.
I much prefer agile for msn anyway so dont realy need pocket msn anyway.
Any help would be appreciated.
hi buddy
try the attached file - got it from my wizard extended rom!

Its in the Windows folder and some thing like msnmsgr.exe - can't tell you for sure as I dont have it with me.
Just to finish off I placed a copy in the start menu and removed from the today screen the pocket MSN thing.

Thanks for the repsonses.
I did a hard reset and didnt start the pocket msn software, so it didnt create a hotmail inbox. I've removed it from the program icons.
The messenger software is called instmsgr.exe but if you use that it still creates the hotmail inbox.
Cheers
i too would like to know how to use msn without it making the hotmail inbox. also i'd like to get rid of the outlook email one but i could live with that staying but 2 inboxes i dont use starts to get anoying
I just use agile messenger which is free and does the same job. In fact it goes one better by including AOL, ICQ and yahoo messenger.

I simply made a shortcut in SPB Pocket Plus to a file called..... instmsrg.exe which is in the Windows folder.
To get rid of the mailbox, i guess you could hard reset, create the shortcut to instmsgr.exe then never open the Pocket MSN so the mailbox never gets made. As suggested above.

as shah said it still creates the hotmail account as soon as you sign in using the msn software. oh well guess i'll just have to use a 3rd party app for instant messaging
dean
right figured out how to remove it. go into settings / memory and stop msn and messaging. (this'll stop you having to reset)
load up a reg editor, I used resco explorer. goto HKLM/software/microsoft/inbox/svc then rename the "hotmail" key to "-hotmail" exit resco and press the power button to standby your device and save the reg changes. now if you go into messages the hotmail will be gone.
i've only just figured this out so not sure if there are any minor side effects, let me know if you notice any.
Thanks
That seems to do the trick.
Need just to decide whether to use agile or instmsgr ... The latter integrates better with the os but I think I read somewhere that it uses more data so higher gprs costs ???
I just tried this on the new rom, and it denied me access to the whole messaging package.
No Texts, nothing.
So I'm just undo-ing the change.
How can I get rid of the process called pMSNServer.exe which takes up around 300KB of my precious RAM??

Not to be contrary, but pMSNServer.exe should only be using 56kb of resident memory. I haven't seen it run since I did the following from a few posts up (though I deleted the whole key rather than renaming it):

I already deleted that key as well - I don't have the MSN Inbox in my MobileOutlook...
However, the pMSNService.exe is still running and takes up around 300KB...
which app you use to see how much space does the msn program use when running ?
thanx
I am using SKTools, but there are also many other memory managers...

Dear Lutzh,
I ran this cab on my Toshiba G900 WM6P PPC phone, to remove WLM, and it asked where to install, I chose Storage Card. Now on card I have folder Tools with a file CeSetup in it which does not have a file association. In Add/Remove programs I have nothing new that can be removed. In /windows I still have the WLM files. Did I do something wrong, what should I do next?
Thank you in advance
I removed all of this from my registry and no Activesync or Hotmail now listed, this works for me as i dont bother with either of them, I use GPRS to check me mail and never use hotmail, figured it was time for them to go.
Even though they are no longer visible in the Inbox app, they still appear in Pocket Breeze, anyone help out further?
Below is the 3 sets of backups i made during removal
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\ActiveSync]
"FriendlyName"="Outlook E-mail"
"UserCannotCreate"=dword:00000001
"DLL"="syncmgr.dll"
"Name"="ActiveSync"
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\ActiveSync\MsgClasses]
"IPM.Note"=dword:00000001
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\Hotmail]
"UserCannotCreate"=dword:00000001
"Port"=dword:00000000
"DefMsgClass"="IPM.Note"
"SupportedMsgClasses"="IPM.Note"
"DLL"="pMSNHotmail.dll"
"Name"="Hotmail"
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Inbox\Pocket MSN]
"Link"="Pocket MSN.lnk"
"Domains"="hotmail.com;passport.com"
My aim is to remove all mail accounts except the 3 i use, ie my POP3, SMS and MMS, which is what I now have in my Inbox, just not everywhere else so far
Good jobs.
Sorry, how did you remove them?
exactly, in the examples that you posted here, there are no changes to the original registry.
no no no, they are the keys i removed totally from the registry, they were cut + pastes from my backup files.
soz for confusion
Amazing! Works great. Thanks a lot
i know this seems a bit trivial but have you tried removing pocket breeze, doing the changes then re-installing ? i think pocket breeze creates all its headers etc when it installs?
its a good theory unfortunatly i wont be able to try it unti tomorrow night, godda do a bit of travelling

I've done this but I no longer get notifications when I receive a text message
Yeah!! I have the same problem!!! What´s wrong?
I simply removed the hotmail registry entry in
HKLM\Software\Mircosoft\Inbox\Svc
I can't see a need to remove the other entries as Active Sync and MSN Messenger are not displayed in my list of inboxes.
However, I do not use Pocket Breeze.
I'm guessing the active sync keys are responsible for your alert notifications?
Just sent a text message to my phone, i'm still receiving the notifications on arrival so i'm pretty sure its the active sync reg keys you've removed.
What?
How would I re-add this?
it works great..
but now I have hotmail1 account!!!!!???
causes Problems with Pocket Outlook
Just for the record:
another nasty little side effect of removing the ActiveSync-Registry items posted above is that Pocket Outlook will crash on load.
If you use alternative means of sending and receiving SMS thats no biggie, but I thought I'd mention it.
(slightly off-topic: )
By the way, has anyone resolved the issue with tmail.exe and 3rd party apps for sending SMS? I can send them through pocket Outlook, but not through any 3rd party apps (Flexmail, Pocket Informant etc...).
This Knowledge Base article suggests it's an OS-Issue, so I thought I'd ask you guys...

Can any one advice me of either another PDA application or a means of transerring txts from my XDA Exec so i can retain them if have to Hard reset device?
Whilst I don't have an Exec so I can't try this out, I use Jeyo Mobile Commander to backup my SMSes and contacts - it works flawlessly with my device, and as it works through ActiveSync chances are it'll work with the Exec too... PM me for more info.

sorry, not sure i understand your question... do you want to backup your txt files? just copy them to a SD card ... or to the PC via activesync or via wlan (without AS). plenty of options available.
In the UK, txts is pretty much used as an everyday slang for 'text messages' (txts.. sending a text, etc) - sorry if we confused you

woops. i see now thanks.
SMS transfer
Apologies, it is the sms and mms i want to be able to copy from XDA so i dont lose them when ROM upgrade or hard reset is completed.
Is Jeyo Mobile Commander compatible with the XDA EXEC? also there seems to be a new product Jeyo Pocket Companion, does that do the same?
Newbie so bear with me please.
Thanks for your help.

i know for a fact that jeyo (to backup sms's) is compatible with the exec, but i never tried it, don't know exactly which program you need..
anyway does anyone know of a solution to backup them that doesn't need the pc and syncing? sms export to a txt file or csv or anything would be even better.
The only program I've found which can backup your texts without using ActiveSync is a program called smsBackup - but it's quite buggy, and you still have to copy the file off yourself (it just saves the backup file in its Program Files folder, and doesn't ever prompt you to save it anywhere else) - it's free though, so I suppose you can 'work with it' considering the price point

the problem is that this program is not wm5 compatible.
Ah, rats.
To be honest, Jeyo Mobile Commander is WELL worth using ActiveSync for - it's a really, really useful program and doesn't require anything installed on your mobile device to work, so that's even better.

the bad thing is that i'd have to start using outlook then :wink:
well, i'll see... if nothing else...
afaik, if you're just using the bog standard New -> Message method of sending texts on your phone, while it does store the messages on the phone in the Outlook hive along with MMSes and emails synced from Outlook, I don't believe you need Outlook on your PC to save and/or restore them, if you catch my drift...

sorry, how do you mean the part about using the new/message method. i just press reply many times after seeing the notification without going into the messaging application.
would be real cool if i don't need outlook for this. i'll definitely check this out. thanks once more.
Well I just use the XDA's regular messaging app for texting too, which I know stores text messages in a pooled area along with mesages synced in from Outlook and MMS messages.
But the Jeyo app just reads my SMSes directly from the phone (I can watch it as it populates the list realtime), and when I back up my messages it saves them directly to its own format file, and restores them directly back again. Outlook is never involved.
2 versions
I think there are 2 versions of Jeyo...
1. Is a standalong app
2. Is a build ontop of Outlook...
What've i've noticed is application 1, does not read sub folders, which i've found to be annoying, as i'm on the verge of a hard reset myself, and i have built up quite a collection of sms's now...
Wish there was an easy answer to this...
Maby SPB Backup is something to look into?
http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en
Not sure if it does sms/mms, but worth a try
I use Jeyo Mobile Commander to back up my txt msgs, I recently had to send my MDA Pro back to T-mobile so i used Jeyo to save my txt onto my computer and transfered them to my MDA III(BA) until i got my MDA Pro (Universal) back. It works a charm and backs up txt nicley, updates all the current txt on the computer every time you connect it to activesync, the only thing that i would have liked it to do would be to backup MMS which it doesn't have the option for as far as i can see, but apart from that you can backup your txt, contacts, call history and even send txt directly from your computer once its connected to you phone.
Yeah, I noted that it doesn't (can't? or won't?) back up MMS messages, possibly because of the non-standard way in which the XDAs create them (I noticed that the actual MMs composition software is third party, maybe that's got something to do with it...) Aside from that, I'm absolutely happy with the software. The ability to send text messages straight from my PC while my phone's docked is VERY cool
ok problem solved.. a friend of mine is writing a brilliant program that can export the sms's on the device without a pc. basically already working ok, just needs some polishing 8)
Tell him I'd love to beta test it for him, if he needs testers!
I just got my 8125 last night and love it so far. I am coming fro a Treo 650 and have a lot of contacts. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer my contacts from my Treo 650 to my new 8125?
If there are any must have programs I would appreciate some pointing in the right direction.
Thanks
Well a great start is going to http://wiki.xda-developers.com/ it is a great place to get some info. Look here for some must have tools http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Must_have_tools. As for contacts have a look here http://www.mobiletechreview.com/tips/palm_to_PPC_and_back.htm it says how to do it. Hope this helps and good luck with you 8125.
Thanks for the reply PPCNUT. I read the article about transferring my PIM info from my Treo 650 to my 8125. I kind of really don't like OUtlook at all. I use Eudora on my laptop and Snappermail for my Treo. Is there some other way I can get that info transferred onto my 8125? And yes...I do realize that I am being insane...I don't want this to be a deal breaker for me.
Thanks
I have seen exactly the program you need it is a sync program and it will sync all devices WM, Palm etc and it allows the use of most e-mail programs. I think it may cost $29.99 but it will work with the e-mail client you have got. I will try and find the link and I will post it here.
http://www.sync.com
Costs $70.00 but there is a downloadable trial. For a once time thing it would be worth downloading the trial.
Thanks for the combined help with getting my contacts transferred.
It worked like a charm... I was wondering though as to what PPCNUT said. I think you said that I can use Snappermail with WM5. Is that correct or am I just getting a little too excited?
It looks like all my contacts, memos, tasks etc...came throuhg without any problems. Thanks a lot...I was getting a little worried that I wasn't going to be able to transfer everything.
I am using Pocket Informant. Am I correct in saying that this program is going to be a replacement for Palm Desktop? If it is great. I was wondering if it has the same feature like Palm Desktop where I can type information in the program on my laptop say for example a new contact with all there info and then sync my 8125 and have the info transfer with a hitch?
If this can do it great. If not could you point me to the "right" program?
What about an e-mail solution and threaded sms messaging?
Sorry to be a pain, but I am trying to load my 8125 up with the "right" stuff so the transition won't kill me.
I felt A LITTLE lost today.
Well I am not to sure whether you would be able to use Snappermail with WM5 as I am very much a Windows user and I don't know much about any thing out of Windows and on the e-mail front I use Outlook so I am not to sure. Sorry.
Hello,
I have a little issue with my Hermes since I bought it. I didn't check when I upgrade to WM6 (I moved back finally to WM5, that is now much stable), but I don't know how to create and use "Distribution Lists" in Pocket Outlook.
Any idea?
