Random SoftResets... ?? :( - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

To start, I'm terribly sorry if this is a cross thread and the question has already been answered, but i couldn't find it...
Anyway. I'm using my Wizard w/ WM5 IPL\SPL 2.25 and AKU 3.3. And it likes to RESTART/SOFTRESET it's self randomly. I have not a clue what to trace this back to... It did it on WM6, so i went down to WM5 for multiple reasons, one, to see if it fixed the reset issue... It still does it, but not near as much as it did w/ WM6..
I use batterystatus, and i do over clock, and i overclock a little lower than what most people OC to. I OC to 247 w/ CPUSCALER on at 143~195~247 ~ 260 Boost. My temps are pretty low. Spiking sometimes at like 32C and maybe in the sun and heat it goes higher than 35. otherwise i usually see an average of about 28 or 29C constantly. Drain is always between 50~250 mA and 219~1200 mV (i'm not sure what the high is on the mV reading...)
But anyway. The thing just resets it self for no apparent reason. Theres nothing i'm doing to induce it. I'll simply open my keyboard and then try and respond to a text (that i'm now getting with WM5, i hope the missing text/call issue w/ WM6 will be resolved soon. :] ), or i'll set my phone down on my desk, and then try and wake it up by tapping the power switch, but it's off..
So I don't know. I don't to bore you guys w/ information. But if there's anything else I can let you know to help solve the mystery, please ask.
A little extra:
If this means anything. Today I had to make a trip to the local AT&T store... My SIM was fried.. I'd turn my phone on and it said "Invalid or Missing SIM." So i was stumped. I Turned it off, put in a friends chip, and it worked, i even got one of her texts.. I call up 611 to see if i could go to the store and get a new chip, and yes i could. I ran down to the ATNT store and got my self a new chip and now my phone works again, with yet less Softresets... So idk if this has anything to do w/ the issue. If the old SIM was shorting or something.. i have no clue....
AHHHHHHHH. Thanks.
edit: whatever, got a warranty exchange.

MDA Questions after a week of use...

Hello...
I recieved my MDA last saturday, and since then, have been trying to figure everything out. After multiple calls to tmobile, and even a trip back to the store, i'm still stuck with a few questions that i cannot seem to get answered.
1. The MDA came with the default Tmobile theme which works fine in portrait & in landscape, as well as the default blue Windows theme.
However, I have tried to install multiple themes(including some from microsoft themeselves) and i have one annoying error! Whenever I use an "installed" theme, the portrait screen looks fine, but when I open the keyboard...there are two large greyish/white gaps on the side of the theme.
Ex: I'm using a green theme. When in landscape mode, i have a single green square in the middle of the screen with a strip on either side(left or right)
2. My phone is HORRIBLY slow when and if ANYTHING 3rd party is installed. I've tried today plugins that control the memory usage(figured that would help)...however, it just slowed things done. My phone usually runs at about 14mb Free Program Memory, out of the total 44MB(This seems horrible...with just the default programs installed*for the most part* and maybe agile messenger running.). If i install a today plugin, or a game...this drops below 10mb. Therefore, phone usage can be very aggravating. I cannot think of any other way to increase this memory expect for ONE thing. Would it be possible to transfer ALL programs, applications, etc to the miniSD Card(i have 1gb now, with a 2gb in the mail). This way...i certaintly would not be topping out the usage of the card, and hopefully I can free up alot of space on the phone.
3. As we all know, the packaged IM programs are AWFULLY slow and inconsistent. After a bit of research and trials, I have settled on using Agile Messenger. I'm loving it...expect for a few things.
The MAJOR problem I have with it, is the pop up notification. Its annoying to be surfing the web or playing a game, just to have a pop up tell you that you have recieved a message, EVERY TIME you get a new message(which can amount to a great deal in a short time). I've looked all over for a setting, so unless I missed it, is there any way to shut this off?
A side issue with this program, and also the connectivity of the phone is...:
(even WITH the GPRS hack*always on*), I still lose connection(with 2-4 bars of signal) and therefore i get signed off of Agile, rather often. This isnt' such a problem with me, as seeing it takes a short time to log back in. However, when you look at the conversation from another person's point of view...all you see is
"Soandso" Logged off
"Soandso" logged on
etc
etc
(not sure if that last part was a question or a statement, but if theres an answer, i'd like to hear it!)
4.
My girlfriend has a sidekick, and I LOVE the feature of being able to set phone profiles for specific times of the day. Especially during school, it'll go silent, and the second we are out, its back on normal. I have downloaded PZP to try and fix this loss of luxury. However, I personally don't find the program to be very consistent. Sometimes, it seems as if say my "school" profile is fully functioning, while other times, it really doesnt. Call me crazy, but I have taken a shot in the dark and ventured to say that if one touches the volume button on the phone while the phone is on a specific profile...it will throw it out of its cycle. If anyone has some hints/comments/suggestions of their own on this program or other favorites...I would love to hear from you.
5. After I went about and downloaded the Eten dial pad skin, I noticed that all of my contacts were unable to receive contact photos. I quickly realized that any contact that was saved on my SIM card from my previous phone was stuck in this predictament. However, if i were to create a new contact account, it quickly allows me to customize them alot further. Therefore, i was curious if there was any way to transfer my contacts on my sim card>my phone in a fashion that the phone will accept them.
I'm sure i'll think of more questions(these are just the ones that I havent been able to answer after days of searching :-D)
Thank you so much in advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
the speed of the HTC Wizard is very slow. That was my problem too.
for question no. 2:
Moving the apps to the card will result in more free space on the phone, OK, but running the apps from the card will also result in low speed, because the card is slower than the main memory. So I think you won't get more speed by this.
Try to overclock the device with OmapClock. My device works like a charm with 264 MHz (original was 180 MHz).
Use a tool like FreeUp RAM, which is part of the SK-Tools-package.
Running OmapClock and freeing up the RAM from time to time brings significantly much more speed. There is almost no waiting time if you click on an icon. You can even run Skype with OmapClock (many other users do so).
HTH
I have seen tidbits about overclocking through my endless searches the last few days. I've always heard that you have to be careful if you overclock a device, such as a phone. Has anyone had any known issues with the overclocking? Are there risks in having the phone run at that speed all the time?
The Wizard isn't slow. Install a Qtek rom without branding, and it will be much faster.
even the sales associate at tmobile seemed to think it was slow. Upgrading to a different ROM sounds ok, but i'm trying to keep everything via tmobile. thaks for the tip though.
Hi,
Im looking to get the Tmobile USA MDA, but after reading posts like this Im alittle afraid.
I need to run TOMTOM on this device and thinking that this might bring the device to a halt. Now Im starting to think that maybe I should get the 6700. Please let me know what you found out about making MDA faster. Thank you.

There have been long discussion about what is safe with the Wizard on this forum.
See, for example, http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=40284
Also, the SmartsKey app automates startup of OMapClock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41060
(It has a number of other uses as well.
Hope this helps.

There is a known problem with backlighting. See http://zendrui.free.fr/PZPForum/viewtopic.php?t=197
Also, check to see what events PZP is handling for profile-switching. For example, if you have calendar-based or time-based rules, they may switch your profile without you doing anything. Go to Settings, Control to see what you Switches you allow. Or check Time and Calendar for your profiles under the Configuration option.
As much as i'm sure overclocking the device may help, especially in my case. I'm just not sure if its worth the risk. Kind of hard to explain to Tmobile why the phone decided to overheat. Seems overly risky to make such an expensive device, run at higher speeds than its DESIGNED to do. But i'm still not sure, it almost DOES seem worth it...decisions, decisions...
Yes, Thank you for clarifying that...I mostly meant, the inconsistency of PZP with the timing of profiles. It seems as if the program will "switch" to the correct profile, but i don't always see a change in the operation of the device itself. Ex: I have it set to go to school mode at 7:30am, this past week(since its spring break, i've noticed that my incoming calls all had the normal ring volume, as well as system tones, etc...
Although it "says" ""School"" i don't really know if its truely in that mode?!
On this note, i have a question about setting the times(which is what i really want to accomplish). My phone goes to LOUD around 5:30am, School at 7:30 am, Normal at 1:55pm, and Quiet at 4pm.
Nooow, do i have to put two times in the school profile such as 7:30 am-1:54(5)???? so that it has an entire time interval...or can i just tell it when to start, and the next profile will automatically kick in and stop the previous.
Also, does putting the phone in standby or shutting it down have any effect on the profile??
I'm sorry in advance if i'm asking very basic questions, i've just been searching for a long period of time, and i usually can't find a specific answer to my question. So I decided I would spend the time to actually discuss MY problem, with hope someone can help. Again, sorry for any inconvienence or redudant questions.

I have a german T-Mobile MDA Vario (= HTC Wizard) and I'm overclocking it permanently with OmapClock and SmartSKey. There is no overheating as far as I can say/feel. I can speed up to 264 MHz (original = 180 MHz). If I try more, the device softresets itself without any damage or loss of data. It's a kind of security mechanism. Of course, battery life is a little bit shorter when overclocking it. But I'm sure, slightly overclocking doesn't damage the device! Maybe the lifetime of the device will be a bit shorter, lets say 6 months in 5 years, but you won't realize that, because you won't be using your device in 5 years. You will sure own some other phone when the CPU dies. Together with the tool "FreeUp RAM" (comes with SKTools), I can reach a comfortable speed for everyday use. But never forget: The Wizard IS quite slow, compared with other devices. You can find smart workarounds for that, but don't close your eyes on that fact.
For running any GPS navigation tools I would consider buying not a Wizard, but a much faster device, if you would ask me. I'm using my Wizard only for addresses (~ 700 items), calendar (~ 1200 items) etc., and without overclocking and using a program like Pocket Informant 2005, that would be an annoying, maybe impossible thing. At the beginning, I had to wait almost 10-15 seconds until e.g. the month overview was created. Switch to the following month - wait again. Choose a specific day - wait again. Oh my god! That needed more patience than I had.
Are you running a basic install without all the phone networks customisation bloat?
you can do this by hard resetting (you will loose data doing this) and then doing a softreset when the customisation dialogue pops up after setting time zone etc.
this will speed things up over an install with tmobiles bloatware. I run tomtom and my device is in general as reponsive as the magician it replaces.
good luck with your phone

So guys based on your opinions and experience is it worth for me to get the MDA or should I go with a different carrier and a XV/PPC-6700 ?
Hi yozh,
I don't know the 6700-device at all. Maybe we don't have it here in good old Germany, or maybe under a differnt name. Does it have a bigger display (better for navigation)? Does it have a faster CPU? Then take that one! In my eyes I would never like to use the Wizard for navigation. It's only a better phone, not more, not less. For all other purposes I would buy a bigger machine. I do not want to talk bad about my own device, I have bought it and I use it and it's OK for the everyday things I do with it. It has nothing to do with "I'm proud of my device", like some people seem to be here. It's a phone, man, not a Ferrari or a Rolex. You would tell yourself lies, if you would call the Wizard a powerful device. I had a Palm Tungsten T5 before, and THIS is a powerful device. 2600 items in the calendar (true!), and the reaction time was half a second if you tap on the screen! You can go and have a coffee if you do that on a Wizard.
Just think about it. If you buy a Wizard, try it for a day and then write to me what you think about that phone.
Mh. My english should be better, I know.
Just my 2 Cents!
Hi well the 6700 is the apache I belive and the CPU is 416mhz but its not a "dual core" everything else screen adn such is pretty much the same. Thanks for the reply
SO any one on this forums can recoment apache over MDA ?

See my posts on http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48448 regarding processor speeds and TomTom.
Wow really TOMTOM runs better on the MDA then on a 400mhz DELL ? Then Im set defenatly getting the MDA, I like GSM network provide3rs better anyway and plus there are so much choices with the phones. I wish I was able to aford the JASJAS that looks really good.
Also don't forget that when you 'close' an appliation it does not really close, it just goes in to background, thus slowing the system down.
Check out your running processes and close all the ones that are not needed or load an app that really closed things.

Themes built for portrait screens look wrong in landscape view. Easy solution: build a theme that works in landscape view. The Guava Bubbles theme works fine in both because the background image is larger than portrait size.

I use PPC-Profiles-Pro, but you can't slave this to a time. Besides, I'd rather just put it on Silent mode by holding the connection manager button for three seconds (top left side button). Otherwise I use PPC Profiles to switch from Work (BT) to Home (Wifi, no BT) to Sleep (No Wifi, no BT, no email alerts or reminders, just ringer). Walking into a theater, I just go to silent mode.

Does anyone have any Overclocking horror stories?

I've just begun overclocking my 8125. starting at 220 and i'll work my way up slowly to a maximum of 265 if possible.
I was wondering if anyone had any horror stories that would make me change my mind about overclocking. Like permanantly damaged devices. I've searched the forums and cant find a single one, which leads me to beleive that it truly is completly safe. But i thought i'd start this thread to make sure.
The worst that I've had happen to me (or heard of happening to someone else) with overdoing the overclock is the device showing the 'white screen of death' which just forces you to soft-reset your device. It's really not anything that bad ^_^

i've been overclocking at 242 or 260 for over 2 months now and I haven't had any problems. My sweet spot is 242, it runs GREAT on this speed and it is a tad more stable than 260.
It is possible to brick your device if you try a speed to fast. 240 is perfectly safe, anything above that can be unstable.
I know its possible to fry a chip through overclocking. I remember frying one of my amd k6-2 processers awhile backl. I just find it odd that even though its possible to fry your wizard. and so many people overclock, that i haven't heard one story about a wizard being broken this way.

Been running mine @ 240 for a while now and everything seems fine.
My phone is mainly on stand-by during the day, but when I do use it for extended periods (evenings and weekends) I use Wi-Fi a lot and read a lot of ebooks which can be quite power consuming - however, the overclocking seems to have no noticeable affect on the phone other than making it quicker...

MOST "PORTABLE" CPU'S CAN MUCH FASTER THAN THEY DO BUT AT THE COST OF POWER THE CPU'S ARE "UNDERCLOCKED" TO SAVE POWER

overclocking after standy freezes for a while!
This query is not related to the thread, but forgive me as I didn't want to start a new one.
I've smarskey with the overclock feature enabled and omapclock.exe running nicely. It hasn't been giving me trouble at all. However, I've one problem..
After the phone goes in standby after a period of inactivity and when I hit the power button again to use the phone, I notice a freeeze in time display. It takes a while before time changes from say 11:30 to 3:30.
I know Smartskey 'wakes' up the overclocking process again and this maybe the reason why my phone somewhat freezes for a very brief period after I disturb the standby mode, but I was wondering if anyone has a solution to this, its kinda annoying.
Thanks
Does not sound that bad, I think your problem is that you can't just take your phone out to have a look at the time  am I right?
Well perhaps that would really be kinda annoying.
But it also sounds like there is no real solution to this. Just try reinstalling the apps, certainly there is a software conflict (if this is not a normal effect).
Perhaps you can also use another possibility than smartskey. I think BatteryStatus and OMAPScaler also have options to overclock at wakeup.
thanks..

thanks for the advice, i'm thinking about using memaid.

universal fails to start sometimes

Hi,
I'm very happy with my universal (wifi and vga in pocketsize) only one thing is driving me crazy.
every, say once in 10 times the universal won't start when I press the power button. (after it turning off automatically after a few minutes when on battery power). Worse yet, it doesn't accept phonecalls and smses anymore either..so it already crashed silently. Unfortunately you can't see this from the outside since the lights still flash. I only notice it crashed when trying to start the device.
I've updated to wm6 because I thought it was a wm5 issue, but it wouldn't help. I also updated to radio 1.13 (the orange radio stack as found on this site). But this too, didn't fix it.
does anybody else have the same problem?? This problem renders my whole device unuseful. =^(
thanks!

Welcome to the club...looks like no solution on this one yet. Here is a link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=272938
Some say it might be incompatibility with the SD card, but not in my case.
Hi,
that doesn't sound too good.
Anyhow, I'll experiment with it some more (what else can one do?) to see what is making it crash more or less (wifi/sdcard/simcard/battery?)
I'll post my findings... maybe we can find some mutual thing which might be causing it
I doubt it is software related since my whole machine is wiped clean and has nothing on it
R
yes, me too...and it seems to get worst as time goes by...anyways, I suggest that if you have any warranty left to send it back for warranty. GOodluck!
thats a pretty good point... ;^)
I'll check.
too bad it's quite vague description:
yes, sometimes it doesn't powerup..
you can already see the technicians there... they try it 4 times, it works everytime (of course) , and they send it back with a sticker saying 'correct'
ah well.... lets not get ahead of time.

What do u mean with PM?
DId u get the solution?
See ya folks
Solution
Check you PM means check ur private messages
A fellow here with the same problems sent his device for repair and the problem was voltage control unit of mainboard
Solution:
1. Install Pocket Hack Master and go to settings and disable the CPU scaling of the device. Then set it to start at startup. Then clock your device at 312 mhz before turning off the device or closing the clamshell. You can always clock it to 520 while using cpu intensive applications. Just make sure to set it at 312 before turning it off.
thank you buddy
Jumanji1212
Did it also work for you? I forgot to add that I am also using an external charger specifically for Universal because Im afraid charging it via miniusb might mess up the voltage control unit more.
Well, i normally charge it with the ac/dc adaptor but not always. Since i deleted spb diary today plug-in and installed the latest qtek spanish rom and radio, the time of the white-screen shorten.

Hello, I have the same problem (Power button does not start after an auto sleep).
My qtek 9000 however gives a blank screen when playing with the PHM speed tests. (When it is plugged in it works.)
Now I am a little afraid to do the "set it to start at startup"
Is there no risk it will never startup anymore?
Can I do this (temporaly) just for testing without the auto startup option?
So: disable CPU scaling and set the speed on 312 and put it in sleep mode.
I need my Qtek so badly that I get horribly stressed with this kind of things.

Wiz Freezing 3 times a day, help

Where to begin....
I have had my wiz for about a year now (maybe longer) and everything was running fine. Nothing special installed really. I've Sim and CID unlocked, flashed to 1.1 and then flashed again to Mr. Frazzz's XDA Mobile 6 (awesome btw) and had been running that for quite some time with battery status as the only other thing I've really added.
One night I was out and managed to hit my touch screen on a table and it shattered. Things ran fine for a while (could still see considering the touch is seperate from the LCD) and managed to use it as a phone using shortcut keys. Then i started getting problems like slowing down etc and I figured it was partially due to the duress of a cracked touch screen making the phone think it was having a part of the screen pushed (or not there) so i finally had the screen, both the touch and lcd, replaced. Shortly after, I noticed the phone would freeze up randomly. (this is also about the time i switched from t-mobile to at&t prepaid) Sometimes it would do it 3 or 4 times a day and the only remedy is removing the battery. Sometimes it will go for over a week without any issues. Any ideas? Im ready to melt it.
Here's what I've done thus far with no results:
Reflashed to official t-mobile 2.26 and then flashed to Mr. Frazzz's WM6. I've re-installed battery status and then came across a thread stating that the latest version of which might be causing hangups....so i gimped it at first, using only settings I had known to work before with no issues and later uninstalled the whole thing. Still having the same problems.
I have the WM6 radio fix for cingular and 2.69.11 radio as well.
One thing I do notice is that, everytime i make a call and receive the system message stating what that call had cost me, it can cause weird things to happen if I was in the process of doing something else. Not sure that's part of the issue though considering the phone will just be sitting in my pocket when it does randomly freeze.
Is it possible that my mem card is just being jostled and causing issues? or that somehow the powerbutton is being adversely affected inside my pocket if the phone gets flipped upside down? Anyone and everyone's imput would be greatly appreciated, especially if Mr. Frazzz has any input. BTW, this has happened using both WM6r3 and r5 by Mr. Frazzz. I upgraded to r5 this last time i reinstalled WM6.
I'm guessing battery status is doing it. Same thing happended to me, did a hard reset, installed all my programs again excluding battery status and everything is fine.
Is there something else I can install that will overclock for me when the phone is active and kick down the speed when idle?
I also used battery status for the disable proxy thingie when wiFi is on.
Well...Overclocking is never safe and the manufacture of a cpu has clocked a cpu at a set speed. Why, because it is more stable. So anything past the stable speed will bound to be unstable. I overclock mine to 260 and still do not notice a boost so either you leave it at 195 and run smoothly or make it "faster" and have more issues. Your call.

G2 Shuts OFF(resets)! Potential FIX!

For about 2 months since I have owned this phone it has given me nothing but crap. I always kept my G1 in my pocket and I always dropped it, even had it in water 3 times! (never had any problems) The G2 however if I kept it in my pocket, dropped it, or open/closed the keyboard repeatedly the phone would shutoff! Very Very disappointed at first. I missed many calls and text messages.
So How come NOW I can drop it, open/close the keyboard repeatedly, and keep it in my pocket without it shutting off?
I did a little investigating of the battery and contact points on this phone, it turns out that there is room for play with my battery. SO every so often the contacts would lose connection with the battery!
TO fix this I put a small piece of folded paper along the top edge of the battery opposite of the contact point to the phone, it made a more secure and snug fit to the contact points.
The battery does get Hot so I do not recommend this as a permanent fix as it is now a small fire hazard.
BUT, to this day I have had ZERO problems.
I am sooooo now with my G2 any questions or other comments please leave them below.
CYANOGENMOD 7 RC1
Class 10 4gb microSd
1500MAH battery
Hard rubberized black graphic case
Talk about going backward! I remember the old nokia 5160s that everyone and their brother had folded up paper in the batteries about 10 years ago! LOL

Meh... I don't think anyone else has this problem. If they did then they probably exchanged it.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 running Cyanogenmod.
I have this problem.
I can't exchange it because I bought the phone on ebay.
If you search through the threads and on google, quite a few people experience this random freeze / shutdown where you have to do a battery pull.
I've tried flashing different roms, using only basic apps etc...
I don't think it's software related anymore, and if it is, it's too hard to diagnose. Many suggestions have been made, micro sd card slot, battery connections, software, weird app, different rom... I haven't tried removing SD card yet and my battery connection seems ok, it's pretty tight in there...
Don't know what the problem is and I wish someone could figure it out as it's frustrating to drop too much $$$ on a phone and have it act this way.
Random Reboots
I have a similar problem with my G2. It randomly reboots when its siting stationary on my desk or in my car.
This problem is made stranger though because it NEVER does this while I'm using it!! If I have it playing Pandora or Youtube - no reboots. But, like clockwork, if turn off the screen and set it on my desk, reboot... never fails... it will reboot 2 or 3 times then seems to be ok for a little while. Very annoying because I can't make or receive calls while its doing this.
Like others I've read plenty of posts on this but no working fix I can find. Some people say they returned their phone 2 or 3 times and still have the same issue. Some people say its related to signal strength but it does this will full bars or no bars.
I've tried custom Roms: CM6.1.1, CM7-RC1, & Virtuous 1.0.1 and the problem remains.
Does anyone know how to fix this? This is the only negative about an otherwise HOT little phone.
At least yours reboots! A lot of others just freeze (like mine)! And then you don't even know it.
I'm trying out another theory... Installed CM6 a few days ago. Had the same problem.
But I just started OC using CPU Tuner and the stock CM6 Kernel., the lowest option I have for clock speed is 700 something for some reason, so I just used that. So far, 36h, hasn't done it. I THINK, it might be related to the phone not getting enough juice for some odd reason - even on stock, so when you OC it and set a higher clock speed for idle, it might help. NOT sure yet but testing. Will post up if it "fixes" the problem for me.
My G2 was randomly shutting off a lot, usually right after I stuck it in my pocket. The solution? I exchanged it. The new one never does that XD
Possible fix for random reboot
I think I may have found a working fix for my random reboots. Credit goes to the OP.
I installed the Pershoot kernel and since then I haven't had a reboot and up until now it has rebooted like clockwork.
I'll see how it goes.
I had this problem while using the Red ChiChi/EVO batteries, but I believe my problem to be with the back cover. I might have dropped it and the cover got slightly tweaked, or perhaps it was the chichi battery, as it wasn't exactly a perfect fit. If a certain spot on it gets touched or pushed in, the battery loses contact with the pins and kills the phone. I have to pull the battery and let it set for a minute b4 putting it back in and powering up.
I used the same method, with a piece of folded paper on top for a while.
Perhaps its a different problem than the OP, but this only happened with my ChiChi batteries. With stock battery, it always seemed to be a good enough fit, and the corners kept it in place.
I ended up buying an extra stock battery for around $20, and now I carry 2 Stock batteries at all times.
Solution finally?!
I think I found the solution for my phone:
set OC profiles so the phone doesn't go below a certain mhz threshold.
On CM6 stock with CPU Tuner, it defaults to 700mhz lowest. Did not notice any increase in battery drain.
Uptime - 70 hours. Finally fixed!
//UPDATE: I did experience a freeze around the 100 hour mark, but so far that's the only one in the last week or so. In any case, it's doing MUCH better than before...
//OK I lied it still does it but so far just once or twice a week. Better than once a day.
So far there are apparently three problems/solutions:
- Micro SD slot loose connection / improper close - Check micro SD card slot
- Idle voltage too low, freezes phone / use OC kernel and set screen off speed higher
- Bad battery connection / manually fix
After many tries and diagnosing I think one issue is that on stock settings, the idle / screen off profile is set too low, which can freeze the phone (although I did have it freeze once while I was actively texting... not sure why). But 99% of the time it happened with the screen off. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, will keep phone on to see, but I don't remember it going more than 48h without freezing lately.
I have tried the following which did NOT fix the issue for me:
Micro SD check
Uninstall programs (skype, launcher pro, various others)
Revert to "stock"
CM6 "stock"
Checked Battery
Used stock battery / China battery
All those solutions still led to the random freeze / battery pull situation, but could potentially work for you.
2 G2's did the same thing. T-Mobile states known problem. After 14-hour shut down pulled mSDHC card and Sim and replaced battery which was drained in the off-state.
Solved problem and bought a Nokia N8.
Customer Service at T-Mobile and HTC is totally unconnected and unresponsive. Their answer wait for the FOTA.
Hope they don't send it to my Symbian ^3 jewel!
Was Shutting down multiple times a day - FIXED!
Hey Guys,
I've purchased my G2 from ebay so was not able to return it. So I've been trying to fix this problem for ever.
I have not found anything that works until now (knock on wood).
I installed the Cyanogenmod (cm_vision_full-32.zip) and updated my older CM version. The phone has not shutdown once in 4 days, which is a first.
Note: my GPS does not work with this version. I'm about to try a clean wipe to see if it will activate. I'm guessing however that the shutdown issue is 100% tied to the GPS so if I'm successful the problem will return. If a wipe does not work I'll try new radios.
I'll update any progress.

Caveat emptor.
I know. Live in Canada and only way to get the phone.
Me too, although my phone is at uptime: 211 hours right now
CM6 with cpu tuner with the settings posted above... basically make sure it never underclocks below 700 mhz.
