HTC i-MATE Pocket PC Phone Edition is the King of the Hill

I wanted to let everyone know that both I and a good buddy of mine are running our brand new (two week old) i-MATE Pocket PC Phone Edition units directly from HTC. THEY are both the FULL ENGLISH ROM right from the factory direct, no flashing required. The are excellent units with good battery life and everything better than the T-Mobile units we have before. They have lots of bonus software and since we didn't flash them, we will have no difficulty loading any upgrades later on from Carrier Devices. We ordered our from a great company in the middle east called Compume at www.compume.com and the devices were delivered to our doorsteps in Toronto within seven days of ordering. The pricing was excellent and BEST of all. If you order the english full version you get a full year world wide warrenty, yes worldwide full warrenty. We are running them with the our original sync/charge USB cables at work and car chargers from our XDA units - perfect no problems ... Again, ordering the i-MATE from Compume means a full warrenty and full english version and less than seven days shipping. The devices surf very fast and with the patch for the ID caller program provided already for the i-MATE units, its flawless. Battery life (after 12 hours of work today (on the whole time) it sits at 41% still. Multi-tasking is great, pictures are surprising very very good. MSN is terrific as always. It holds its GPRS and if your wondering if it is worth it to upgrade from the original - it is truely like night and day ... Dont' hesitate with Carrier Devices HTC i-MATE or ordering from Compume. This is without question the best unit on the market and I've had them all. Oh btw - HBH-65 BT headset, perfect and flawless. I am running as is my buddy on FIDO in Canada with no difficulties what so ever. Dont play with your money and go for the original English Rom. If your wondering about price, our total bill came to 2200.00 CDN for TWO devices and that included shipping costs (7 days and that was with customs)door to door.

camera issue in imate
hi everybody,
got my imate and i really like it . however there is one issue that i think needs attention. although i know the camera is just a toy but why does it mess up images? when I am trying to fix a position to take a picture, everything is clear but when i take the picture there are problems in the picture such as it's quite unclear. is this an issue with the jpg compression utility or something like that?
oh yeah also, today i recieved a call and i tried picking it up but my imate froze. i had to reset and the call was dropped.. this only happened once but does anyone know what's the issue there?

Rather lightweight compared to the XDAII though isn't it? 1/8th of the RAM, 1/2 the ROM, 1/3rd the CPU speed and no bluetooth (even the limited stack in the XDAII).
It comes down to what you want, a phone with PDA capabilities or a PDA with a built-in phone.

I agree....I am the guy with the other I-mate. After using this for a week I have to say is WOW. What a powerful pocket PC. I loved my Tmobile XDA but this just blows it away.

The store compu-me is a LARGE retail chain in UAE so very stable. You use your Visa or Mastercard which should have 100% protection so not like buying through paypal or sending some guy money who will get someone else to sent it. So we felt good about buying that way. We spoke to the store and they were very helpful and shipped it out right away.
Just a few notes on the I-mates. They do have support for Arabic. Meaning when you first turn it on, or perform a HARD reset it will prompt you to install Arabic language support, Just click decline to the prompt and your ROM will be fully english. I have not had mine lockup or do anything strange was a very smooth week.
The devices did come with a Full Leather Case (I am hearing some do not), the option CD came with 2 complete high end games, Tennis and Odyssey.

I have used my Lili sync from Pocket PC techs without any problems all week at work, also bought some writeshields from them (expensive but glad I did).
If you want to buy XDA2 then this is the only SMART way to go...

Bogus. I played with one... yea, if you want a tiny little screen, no RAM, no processor speed, then it's great. If you want a PDA that's also a phone, then that's not it.

Umm 128mb, 400 Mhz...what are you talking about, the specs of the imate are the best there is. You must have the XDA2 / Imate confused with something else?

Should I buy a Wizard or wait for the Hermes?

Got my wife a wizard about 2 weeks ago and been playing around with it. Its a great little phone. I'm due for an upgrade now and am wondering if I should wait for the Hermes to be released in July (as someone posted on another thread) on Vodafone or just go for another wizard now. What do you guys think?

The Wizard is a great phone no doubt. Seeing that you already got your wife a Wizard, I would just lend her your current phone and use her Wizard until the Hermes comes out. Tell her its essential. If that fails, I would wait. Its only a month away. BTW I think they changed the name from Hermes to TyTN (Titan) now. HTC TyTN.

I think so too. But I've been waiting for this phone from vodafone (as they are out of stock) for over 2 months now. They've been pushing back the date continuously. It might be when the TyTN arrives when the qtek 9100 come back into stock.
Anyone knows how much the unit will be on contract? (How much was the Wizard on contract when it first came out? - It should be similarly priced)

I have heard on the grape vine that T-Mobile will not be selling the Hermes due to the high price, it will be simliar to the MDA Pro, contract price about 200 on a 35 a month contract.

if you can wait for may of next year for a herpes then get that instead

If you want to wait for the heremes, may be because of:
1. Wizard's bad camera.
2. Slow bluetooth transfer rate.
3. maybe the heremes will have a faster processor.
Otherwise, the wizard is great, I compared my mini s with my friend's JAMin, I really liked the wizard more!!!

How Much Touch Enhanced Model Do We Own ?

Its good to know of how much Touch enhanced ( 128 RAM / 256 ROM ) models we are owning. Lets start by numbering.

offtopic - lol guys friend of mine has touch from HTC for quite some time compared to me, and yet now after few weeks we noticed, that the original HTC Touch has tiny answer/end keys compared to mine, larger and more comfortable t-mobile rox (except the gay pink logo, gay services and horrible prices )

How much did you pay for your Wizard?

Figure I'd start a little topic that hopefully isn't a dupe.
I'm just wondering how much you all paid for your devices, and where/when you bought them?
I've only had my Wizard a few days - I got it 2nd hand from a company that were upgrading all their employees phones. ~£40 (~$80) is the price I paid (xe.com if you wanna convert that into euros etc!) which I thought was a great price for such a fun bit of kit. There are a lot of scratches/dents on the case and the left softkey doesn't work but apart from that it's running perfecto!
I've upgraded the IPL/SPL to 3.08, flashed it with TNT WM6 and set up VoIP calling. I'm awaiting an SD card before I play around any further.
So how much did you pay for yours?

Well, I just got mine 3 days ago. Got it from a Pawn Shop for a cool 20USD! The whole stipulation was that the battery didnt hold a charge, so I went to my local battery store and bought a 20USD battery and it works like a champ! The other stipulation was that it COULD NOT be unlocked to anyone other than Cingular(seeing as its a Cingular 8125).....bbbuuutttt, I can home and used the lokwiz tool and voila! Unlocked Wizard!!! So for 40USD, I dont think that I did too bad!;P

Got mine brand new for about £80 off egay.
Got a 2GB SD card off Play.com for about £12.

i got mine free from cingluar... i had the treo 680... and i traded it in the 8125....

got it first when it came out $300 dollars plus serivce. almost 2.5 years later still using it. Best phone i've had thus far.

Mine was free on a contract - UK T-mobile £22.50 a month with unlimited web and walk. I'm 12 months into an 18 month contract - despite unlocking it and flashing with WM6 I'm kind of tired of the phone now - it's a bit clunky and ugly compared with what's out there now. Don't think I'll get a phone with a built in keyboard again as I hardly ever use it.
Mind you I've dropped the flipping thing about 6 times this week and it's still going strong

Got mine when it was new about two years ago for $399, including a 1GB card, car charger, and a bluetooth headset. I've been nothing but happy with it.

Paid $95 for mine off eBay almost two years ago to the day. Some guy was trying to
upgrade the radio and couldn't get it going again. The thing was brand new. After reading
on this forum for a couple of days, put it in bootloader mode, reloaded the software and
still going strong. I had thought to sell it back to the guy (they were going for about $400
at the time i think)

i paid $170 for my 8125 (used but it looks new). i am plaining to get the 8925(cause this one has GPS built in)

Paid £35 on Ebay - just got the phone (in nice condition - hardly a scratch) with a single stylus, no charger or any accessories. I have a HTC Artemis (T-Mobile MDA Compact III) as well, the charger from that works fine, so no worries.
Main problem was that the dork who sold it me, , had not unlocked/reset the phone so I could not initially get it going. A quick search led me to you guys and I quickly found the instructions on resetting it - works a treat now, have since picked up a 2GB SD cad from SVP for £7.50, so now have a cracking phone/PDA for less than £50.

After 4 years with a fully modded siemens sx1, decided to change to something different. Bought mine on ebay for 70 euros..

Ex-Demo Htc Touch

Hi all, someone offered me a htc touch dual unlocked, but originally telstra network for US$200, do u think this is a bargain or not?
what are they worth new now?
I have an Elf but touch is not working atm, so have to fix... should I get this for a replacement, are they any good?

Bought mine second hand, half year old for somewhere around €120, which comes down to US$165. I did not have to look for it that hard. That, and it was a while ago already, so prices should have dropped in the meantime.
So US$200 is not a bargain, but not really a ripoff either. I like this phone, especially the faster cpu and the keypad compared to the Elf which lacks both.

sold mine on ebay a few days ago, great condition for about 150usd with a bluetooth gps receiver so yeah, thats not a great deal
