I have noticed that whenever the screen is turned on with my TMO Wing, there is a rather anoying bussing sound. Have any Wing users experienced this? Any Herald users notice?
Actually now that you mentioned this I put my ear really really close to the screen while it was on in a quite room and I could hear a faint high pitched buzzing. But for me I have never even noticed it before it is soo faint it's almost never heard.
no buzz for me - xda terra - htc 4350 100
Try to change the Clock speed of the CPU e.g. with BatteryStatus, this will change the "buzz-frequency", I also thought it was the screen, but it was the CPU -lol

I have been playing around with the clock speed. It is certainly the processor making the noise, not the screen. The noise has gotten louder while I have been using, even while keeping the processor at 201 mhz. I might take it into tmobile this weekend and see that they have to say. Also, would like to compare with a unit they have on hand to see if mine is in fact any louder than the others.

My wizard only lost the noisy beeping when it was running higher than 246Mhz. Running on 195Mhz the normal speed I had a loud beep all time. So i ahd to overclock.

Tmo Buzz
I bought my Wing used, and as soon as I turned it on I heard the buzz. Lucky for me though, I used to be a supervisor at mobile and was able to get it exchanged. The replacement didn't start buzzing until about a week after I got it. Now that I think about it, I agree that it's the processor. I probably started to notice it after I got other apps installed.
So what I recommend is this... do an exchange for now just to get tmobile documenting the processor issue. Once tmobile gets the next Wing version in, start doing exchanges on the screen buzz. After so many exchanges there's a chance they'll offer you a multiple exchange and will hopefully offer u the updated version. Lots of wishing in this because we'll have no idea if they're offering the multiple exchange.
I'm sure that none of you spent the money on the phone to have that annoying buzz mind fuc'n you all day. It drives me completely crazy. So I guess we'll just have to keep watching the forums until september and see if the exchange is an option.
***Oh ya, they'll do an exchange with for this issue because it's not the norm at this point. The problem is that most the techs are convinced it's due to water damage... so they'll probably give you crap and run you around a bit before exchanging it.
Just an update...
Using battery status, the sound did change and was actually better the faster the processor was moving. As I did not want to keep it at 288 mhz (for battery life and device longevity) to keep it as a dull noise, I returned it to t-mobile store.
They certainly felt this was not a common occurrence and have only had one other issue like this at that local. Swapped it out with no issues.
Phone is now completely silent with no buzz whatsoever.
Their tech guy at the store wanted me to do a hard reset which I did not do. He felt that this might fix it. Who knows...
Well I am soon to by onto my third wing now. After about a week of having the second wing, buzzing started again. I was on the phone with TMO and they are sending me a new one. They still have no record of this being an issue in their system and did give me the runaround about returning it. Also, they did charge me $10 to send a replacement the first time. This time I made sure they sent it for free.
Hopefully 3rd times a charm...

No, it's not. Mine doesn't buzz
Ya, my Wing just started to make this noise. I used to get it all the time with my Razr. I thought the noise was coming from the Lcd, cuz when I'm making a call, and I turn off the screen, the noise actually stops.
I run my Wing at 234 and scale up to 273 with a boost up to 286. I never heard the BUZZ, but then again, I have my own problems with SD card corruption.
Id gladly take the buzz in exchange for a non-SDCard-corrupting device.
My wing buzzed since the 1st day I got it.
2 weeks later, it comes to the point of TOO LOUD.
Just called T-mobile to get exchange. And have to pay $10 for the shipping! This sucks
I noticed my previous wing buzzed.... but my new one doesnt and I'm running BatteryStatus @ 273
This makes me unhappy! I just ditched my Palm because the screen whine / buzz was so bad. I will keep my fingers crossed that my Wing will stay buzzless. There are some actual hardware hacks to stop screen buzz but it require you to open your phone and manipulate the LCD.
I think the buzzing occurs after your overclock your device, but it should also disappear if you overclock....hmmmmmm
Mine buzzes when the CPU drops below 201MHz. I was getting a really annoying buzzing sound whenever I was using the phone because it would clock below 201MHz, so I just decided to use application based overclocking and keep it at the stock 201MHz. No more buzzing and it seems to be helping the battery life, as well.
Just received my 5th replacement Wing
Well Im not really to sure where to start out. But im definitely glad to have found other T-mobile Wing users who are having the same horrible issue. I received my 5th replacement phone about 5 days ago. Every phone I have sent back was for the high pitched noise coming from the screen/speaker. The new/current phone i got was perfectly clear and had no noise whatsoever for the first 2days. Then, all of a sudden it started and has progressively gotten worse. I called T-mobile yesterday and told them about the problem and actually gave them this URL to document that other customers are having the same issue. Everytime I call them they say, "wow, I have never heard that before." And they always have a test Wing there that they power on and they always say that they don't hear any screen noise. Im starting to wonder if its something else that maybe I doing or downloading that is causing the noise. Do any you have 3rd party apps installed like SPB Mobile Shell or Pocket Plus? Or do you any of you use a car charger or charger that was maybe not specifically deisgned for the Wing? because I have and I am starting to maybe think it has something to do with the noise. It probably has nothing to do with it but Im just curious. I am going to call them again tomorrow and try to get my 6th replacement. And I will continue to call until they fix this issue. I renewed a 2 year contract and with them and also payed something like $350 for the Tmobile Wing. Since that time, I have had to pay $20 for shipping and handling of the replacement phones, and up until my current replacement, they have all been refurbished phones, I think. You can usually tell by how solid the phone feels and it will usually feel a little looser or like someone has used it before if its refurbished. Sorry for the long post, but just trying to get a lot of questions and info out of the way. Please post back with answers to my questions and or any other updates you may be having with T-mobile and this screen noise issue. I at first thought it was coming from the speaker up until now, it is definitely coming from the screen and is louder than any of my previous phones. Its completely ridiculous to have paid this much money for something that does not work/sound/perform properly like all other Pocket PC phones. My friend has the HTC Sprint Mogul and he has no issue with screen noise. He has had the phone for over a month now and the phone sounds amazing to the ear compared to my wing. Anyways keep up the posting in this forum so we have proof of our issue to Tmobile...

I noticed that when I am calling someone that means having the display really close to my ear and the display is on, I hear a ultra high frequency noise similar to the one that old televisions produce. It is quite disturbing. I would like to ask if anyone has a similar sensation with his prophet. Try to hold the display against your ear while the device is on. Do you hear anything like that? thanks!!!!
Very Interesting fact:
If i overclock the device to 216 and above, the sound vanishes. if i underclock it the sound gets deeper and louder.
What the deal with overclocking?
Did it damage the device?
Nope
thanks for the quick feedback but listen closely, i Believe that this noise exists in every unit.. maybe ??
Nope just tried, don't think it matters but I do have a Qtek S200 with the latest Dopod WWE ROM loaded.
thanks for the try, I am very suspicious that the overclocking of the device to 216 MHZ caused this damage. If i clock it down to 180 it starts making this noise. WHAT HAVE I DONE!!!!

It's highly unlikely that overclocking has caused this problem. You have surreal hearing abilities maybe?
yes, there is always a high pitched noise whenever the display is on from the very begining... device is a dopod pro 818 HK version. A rom change (x-vendor) did not make a difference. still there today
regards, Alex :?
I can hear it too... NOT happy with this!
Ehi guys,
You're dealing with devices working at high clock frequencies ! That noise is quite normal... I can hear it even getting my wireless mouse close to my ear... Nonetheless I can understand it could be annoying if occurring on a phone device...
My 2 cents.
I think that it's the screen that makes the noise. I have a screen off key assigned to the memo key and the noise stops when the screen turns off... I use it all the time if I am making a long call...
M
I have this sound on the backside of my display, when i open my Wizard! Seems that it is the display or digitizer or whatever
Overclocking mine to 228 gets rid of the high pitched sound :?:
Hi,
it seems that the noise is produced by a defective electric part of the display. It is not the effect of overclocking. On the contrary overclocking is the solution. If you overlock the unit (or underclock it, if you're in doubt) the broken part will not get in resonance and thus will not produce any noise.
I had the same problem with my Palm Tungsten and overclocking was the solution. On the Tungsten it was definitely a problem of cheap displays.
Keep quiet, just overclock.
greetings,
Ahjetztja
It's not faulty, it's what this type of screen does. Google it and you'll see. If you can only hear it when the phone is close then it is fine, if not, then maybe try to return the unit.
The reason why some people cannot hear it might be down to the fact that as you get older the highest frequency you can hear drops off. Try it with some older people... it's a bit odd that you end up hearing something that others cannot.
If it's annoying, over clock it or use the screen off setup like I mentioned.

No, making noise is definitely not a normal behaviour of lc-displays. My Neo does not (yet?) have that problem. That special part is faulty and there are chances that the sound will get louder and louder. That is how my palm tungsten behaved. It seems that history is repeating.

You are right, hearing gets weaker while people get older. But this has nothing to do with that special problem. My hearing is excellent and I could clearly hear the noise produced by the display of my tungsten, that started after three months. No noise yet with my Neo.
grettings,
Ahjetztja
Anyway, Google the problem and you'll see that lots and lots of people are asking why their screen whistles... Mine whistles, but only slightly. I think it is down to the screen and not a problem at all.
It's not just Windows phones...

And also this thread suggests it's the touch screen side of things.

You missed my point with regards to the drop off of hearing. I was pointing out that people lose their ability to hear such high pitched sounds as they get older. This could explain why one person on the forum says he can hear something and the next person cannot.
What is this 'special' thing you keep talking about.
M
Here is the deal. I called the o2 XDA support hotline and I was told that this sound is produced by a faulty part in the display (some kind of transistor) and that if the sounds is hearable even if the device is not held close to the ear I should return it under warranty. In my case, i can hear the noise when I work at night and everything is quiet which is VERY annoying. I decided to return it and get an exchange unit.
Indeed, if I overclocked the device to 216 the noise would vanish eventually but I am not willing to have a constantly overclocked device or any kind of obligatory change. I can promise you that this noise is not standard for the neo because I testet it with more than 3 devices of friends.
I really hope that overclocking did not cause this harm else I will not overclock it anymore even though i really want it.
I guess that all devices* cannot be faulty though....?
*all brands/phone etc that have a whine

There may be many people that have this sound, but you can not draw a conclusion about the percentage. If you search for a problem, the results suggest that the problem is bigger than it is in fact. That is because people without that problem usually won't tell others in a forum.

Once again: you are right, but it's irrelevant. As I already mentionend, my hearing is excellent and I could hear the sound with my palm and some (not all) other PocketPCs. But as for my XDA Neo there is no sound.

greetings,

Where in that quote did I draw a percentage about how many people have that sound? I merely pointed out that there are many people who are questioning why their screen makes a noise.
You mention about people report problems far more than if there is none, I agree. But you need to take into account that people are asking the question across phone and phone platforms and about laptops. Therefore it is okay to assume that there some reason why these screen make a whine.
Granted your whine (your phone that is) may be greater than the one that I can hear when my ear is very close. The whine I hear is very high pitched and stops when I turn the screen off. It's not got louder, it's not changed due to over clocking and returning the speed to its original speed. Therefore are we infact hearing two different things? Who knows, just stop miss-quoting me and making out that you are correct. I am merely putting forward more evidence as to what the whine is and that it's not limited to these phones.
Still missing the point about the hearing bit and it is relevant as I was talking about everyone, not just you with super hearing (notice in my previous quote I said 'people' not you), marka2k said that they could not hear anything... so it may or may not be faluty or they might not be able to hear a high pitched sound anymore (sorry marka2k if you can )
As for the research (dont you mean you googled?), they would be in German... cannot be arsed to translate the page as I feel I must tell you again. I was only stating a fact that people are questioning why there screen on their product (phones, laptops, tv) make a whining noise!
If your phone is faulty, fix it or return it to the manufacturer or sell it, or throw it in the bin and buy another phone that does not whine.
Hi I am a owner of this device as well and I'm not very happy about this product. I have a sensitive inner ear and this noise makes me physically ill. However I have found a workaround for the noise problem, it does not fix the problem of course (that is up to o2!!!!).
What I did was stick a screen protector (purchasable from Ebay) over the top. This cut down on the high frequency noise significantly for me. I still am going to try for a repair station solution though, as this is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!! I mean for a thousand dollar product you would think that they would at least make it usable.
Pls let me know how other users go with this.[/b]
I'll give this a try and it really drives me nuts.
I just got my phone back from Optus in Australia.
The phone has been away for 3 weeks and i was told the screen and gasket had been replaced and tested and that the phone was ok.
5 minutes use later there's the noise again just as bad as before if not worse.
Completely unacceptable.
Now i have to send it away again as Optus can't authorise a repair.
Is it possible that I am hearing the noise via BT headset? I have this annoying noise also. By the way, I do have a screen protector..
Dont bother sending it back to O2, I have had 3 Atoms replaced and 2 Exec's replaced each time they promise it is fixed but as soon as the replacement is switched on the noise is there instantly. O2 are selling and distributing these faulty products and they know very well they are faulty, now they do not reply to my emails and when I call them they merely want me to send the faulty crap back to them again and again. I suggest if your device has this noise then send it back to whoever you bought it from for a refund, if that doesnt work then write a complaint to the relative consumer protection agency or telecomunication ombudsman.
I now strongely suspect that all the O2 atoms w/ the new rom make that noise to varying degrees. O2/Quanta should know this, but they ignore it because it would cost too much money to conduct a recall.
My suspicians were verified by a trip to my local shopping centre. Of 6 shops I visited that sold this device 5/6 of the display models emit this sound. The one that didn't make this sound had the old rom.
I suspect that wenever the new rom is installed it changes some power output settings which damage something in the screen. This damage is irreversable. This may explain why many ATOMs only exhibit symptons after several days use with the new rom.

I bought my first Atom in December last year, I have flashed every rom since without any problems no high pitch noise, since then I have purchased another Atom and an Exec both with the problem. I would say this problem is hardware fault either in the LCD or in the power management, after playing around a little I have discovered that the Exec battery in the Atom handset considerably lowers the high pitch noise and battery life is better. Looking at the two batteries I see that the Atom battery is made in Taiwan and the Exec battery is made in China, whether this makes any difference who knows but perhaps O2 or Quanta are now also using a different company to supply them LCD's.
I remeber this pitched noise was come from old CRT monitor. If the monitor use high resolution and refresh rate, it is the same as this atom pitch sound. When change the value to lower, the noise will gone.
But i dont know how to change lower refresh rate or resolution in atom .
anyone know how to do this? change registry?
My phone is now off for the second time.
I told them i want it replaced not repaired so we'll see how it goes.
If it still has the same problem when i get it back I'll just be ending the contract with optus and buying the HP unit outright from a friend of mine who works there.
I had it out with them and told them I knew that the machine was faulty and not tested after the supposed repair and that i didn't want to be without the phone for another 3 weeks.
They said it would be an express courier and I would hear about the replacement 2 days after it is picked up.
So annoying, the XDA Mini i had before this was awesome, no problems at all.
These new manufacturers should be ashamed for putting such a badly designed phone on the marketplace. O2 must be pissed.
interesting...
I've done a survey with atom with about 50 atom's user. For those who bought the 1st batch of atom in dec-mar , they dont have this high pitch noise, but for those who bought in march and so on 19 out of 30 got this high pitch noise, u can check your batch by imei number to your nearest o2 service center...
Noise eh? The problem is arising from the charge-pump cap in the backlight circuit in your fone. You need a cap to power the backlight LED, because the LED requires a higher potential difference (P.D. / Voltage) than that of your battery's supply voltage. Think of it as a step-up transformer, but instead of using the traditional inductor step-up model, you use the solid state model, different technique delivering much the same effect when analysing at low frequencies (i.e. analysis by a human).
So there is your answer... make the capacitor do less actual work, decrease its workload, frequency and you may not hear the sound any more. I can hear the noise in my Atom, but it doesn't bother me at all.
Solution (although I haven't tested it, because the problem isn't frequent/very audible on my atom) would be to lower the backlight intensity in Settings>System>Backlight. No solder rework or reflashing involved!

That doesn't work.
I'm getting my O2 back probably tomorrow and supposedly it has been repaired and tested to ensure a solution. They told me they replaced the screen and gasket. I told them that is what they were supposed to do the first time and that if the noise is still there when i get it i want a replacement. They said they only replace when they can't repair the phone! I said that if you've tried something two times and it's still broke then you can't repair it.
I told them i work for another very large mobile company and that the company will gladly pay for legal help to help me make them look stupid in the press.
All of a sudden they said they will re-test the phone for 24 hours to ensure that the repairs have solved the problem.
I'll let you all know if the phone is actually repaired when i get it back.
Why the hell didn't O2 just get HTC to make this one aswell????
I'm sure it is the capacitor. It isn't decoupled properly, and there is a coupling effect between the main speaker and the cap.
Maybe solution is to install a small pf cap in series to backlight LED circuit, after the transistor driver?
G
Got the phone back after the second repair (replace screen and gasket) and the noise was back with in 25 hours.
Expecting to hear about the replacement today.
What a joke, if they had just left the phone running for a day they would have seen it hadn't been repaired and could have replaced it.
I figure with the cost of 2 screens and 2 gaskets and shipping and time spent they could have just bought me a new one.
A bit of news.
Just got finished talking to O2 and they are going to replace the phone as soon as they have stock. That's all well and good however what they said next was interesting.
They warned me that they can't guarantee the next unit would not also emit the noise. They said they were looking into a possible manufacturing fault whereby placing the unit in your pocket and thus putting pressure (any amount) on the screen will cause compression of the gasket and the noise to start. They said once started it can't be stopped.
I asked why they bothered trying to fix the phone twice when they knew it was a manufacturing problem and they said they weren't sure.
I told them i wanted my phone replaced and if it makes the noise they'll replace that one too until we get one that doesn't make the noise. Grudgingly they agreed.
I think O2 are seriously regretting not using HTC to make the Atom.
I have gotten the replacement and it's making the noise aswell.
I have no idea what the hell they're doing.
They have said they will send a replacement but i told them that I now have no confidence in the unit.
Anyone had any experience ending a contract with Optus in Australia because the phone is faulty?

I personally find the high pitch noise very frustrating three times my Atom has been to O2 service centre and twice replaced. I would suggest the HP rw6828 over the Atom or if you can afford it wait for the Nokia N95 which will be available early next year.

For me, the problem was resolved automatically a while ago. The noise was just gone for good.
It started coming back and going once in a while, but about a couple of months ago it was completely gone.
I had to get along with the noise for about 4 months before this happened though...
Hey guys,
Just got my Atom Exec from O2 as a replacement for my buzzing Atom.
They included the RF keyboard too.
Not too bad.
They admitted it was a design fault, they have just redesigned teh screen and are using the new ones in new units and this one is not buzzing at all.
If your having this problem call them and say you either want a new phone or the screen replaced with the new design.
Hi folks,
I thought I'd get some opinions from folks here regarding the screen whine issue that some LCD screens get.
I recently bought a replacement Tytn off ebay after breaking my screen on mine. When it arrived it looked fine. I put it on charge and started cleaning it. That night I find out it's got a high pitched whine making it almost unusable.
I've sent it back to the seller and asked for a refund but he says he's contacted HTC to find out if it's a recognised fault or not. If it's not something that HTC acknowledge then he's going to make me make arrangements to pick it up from him.
Does anyone know if this is a recognised fault with the phone?
AFAIK, I have got some experience with some other handheld, it appear the pitch noise come from LCD inverter. seen some picth noise in early production of O2 Atom, old handera handheld. even nokia e61 generates pitch noise if you listen it closely. what I can not confirm is where the LCD inverter located, in mainboard or in LCD modul it self. So I can ot tell you which one is broken.
Well, it's just my opinion.
Thanks for the input tianz.
I've found loads of info on Google about it. It appears to be quite common with some of the older mobile phones.
Is it reasonable to expect me to have to accept a phone which has an audible whining noise to it?
Well... actually it's up to you, If you find the whining noise is too loud for your ear maybe you should return it while you can. As my experience when I had Handera with whining noise, I had return it. but when the replacement came back, the whining noise get worse and the company said that there's no problem at all with my Handera.
Later on I found out what cause the whining noise, and actually very simple to fix it, just find the inverter ?? (sorry I don't know what they call it in english, It's ferit core and copper wire wrapped around it) and put some wax from the candle or you can use glue.
And again, I don't know where exactly the inverter located in Hermes device, or maybe they use different model of inverter in Hermes.
So, It's up to you. I hope my answer will satisfied you. Thank you
Unfortunately I bought the phone off ebay and the guy isn't keen to refund me - although he currently has both phone and my money.
He says it's not that loud/irritating so I'm not sure what to do.
I've just dealt with it. The whine is only there when the LCD screen is on. My 8525 phone is exactly 1 year old. It can be irritating though, so I use the earbuds whenever I can.

"I have tried the phone and whilst it is just possible to hear a noise if I put my ear to the screen (why ayone would need to do that I have no idea) there is no audible noise when the phone is held to the ear as used in a normal phone call"
=========================================================
I can hear it loud and clear even at arms length - the phone doesn't even need to be near my head!

That's the problem, he doesn't want to refund. He wants me to keep the phone so he doesn't have to deal with it.
if you do have the phone in your hand, please confirm the pitch noise come from the front speaker or LCD it self. I'll try to help you finding the inverter located. I'll look around if I had a chance to open my 8525 again. Thank you
i am on my second tytn. I bought both used and in PRISTINE condition on Craigslist. The first one I bought had it, and so I asked for my refund from the seller. The second one (that I have now) just started the whining noise yesterday. I've had it since January 2008. It SUCKS!!!

PS: the noise is heard when I put my ear to the front speaker up close. It's weird. I heard it as soon as I move my ear to it. However, after about 5 seconds I don't hear it anymore. Then as soon as I move my ear away, I hear it again... It's like my ears become desensitized to it? lol

It is quite possible. It's like being in a room with an analog clock. You may have sat in that room 100 times, with the same noise around you, but for some reason this time you can hear the tick tick tick of the hand movement. Then just as quickly as you noticed it you can suddenly not hear it no matter how hard you try.
It can be a state of mind that results in your heightened sense of hearing or it can be as simple as your tympanic membrane being a little tighter.
Like the above poster said, I hear mine sometimes too, and other times I dont hear it at all.
To the OP, if the seller has your phone and your money, then either keep asking for your money back and if that doesnt work, email ebay or give him bad marks stating what he has done. If that doesnt work, you can threaten to take him to small claims court ( Judge Judy ). What is loud and irritating to you maybe not to him. Get you rmoney back. Hope this helps..
I think the reason the sound goes in and out is due to the fact that the screen istelf goes to sleep after a few seconds, or what ever you have set in the system...
My screen starting making this noise a few weeks ago. I love the functionality of this phone, but I am pretty much done with it. I can't stand all the tweeks that come with it.
I jumping to the iPhone as soon as they make the slinbox player for it... and they roll out the 3g functionality.
Don't mean to rant, but I am just frustrated.
I think the phone was dropped of damaged and that is why it gives off a high pitch sound.. Mine dropped onto a hard concrete floor. It looks and works perfectly fine but immediately after it emits a high pitched sound when ever the screen is on.
This is not normal for the TyTn which means it was damaged in some way prior to you getting it. Demand a refund.
Hi guys - the person I bought the phone from is still waiting for HTC to get back to him so he still has both the money and the phone.
Even if HTC say it's not a recognised fault, it's still unusable to me because it's really loud to me.
I'm not sure there's much I can do as I'm not exactly in a strong position to make demands.
Personally I think it would be unreasonable for him not to refund me but then he might not be a reasonable person.

The sound is definitely from the LCD - the speaker is fine once the screen is switched off (i.e. you can turn the screen off while on the phone and it's still fine).
I've had 3 8525's, one of them had this problem from day one. There have been a few threads about it as well.
I have just learned to turn my screen off during a call. It's real easy and quick, besides, you aren't looking at the phone when you are talking on it, and if you are, you probably can't hear the whine.
However, if you don't want to deal with the whine, then don't. Hopefully you paid through paypal and can just file a claim if the guy doesn't want to be fair. It is a defect and they should back you up.
If not, look to ebay and see if there is anything further you can do with them.
Call HTC yourself. Don't wait for him.
good luck
yes mine also does it i have just learnt to put up with it, but yes like drakkahn said you should ring HTC yourself and see what they have to say

Very good point. I don't know why I haven't thought of that.
Just off to call them now.
Thanks.
There seems to be so many complaints from people and them replacements for their G2. Are a lot of people plagued by these problems? Do you think you have a perfect G2? (No dead pixels, no loose hinge, no random reboots, good battery, etc). I'm curious to see how many people actually needed to get a replacement before they got a 'good' phone.
I have had my G2 for about five days now, and the only problem I have is with the hinge. At first, I just thought people were complaining that the hinge would not snap-close/was easy to open, but after playing with he phone almost non-stop for the past five days I've noticed that it has actually gotten worse. It seems almost floppy now, and I fear that after a few months with this particular phone I will eventually be able to make it appear to talk. I'm going to go to T-mobile sometime in the next week and get a replacement, bu I'm curious as to what the chances are that I'll get a new phone with the same problem.
Aside from the hinge problem, I am far more than happy with the phone, bloatware and all. I'm hopeful that we will eventually have root and I look forward to keeping this phone for at least a couple of years.
No hardware problems. Just software problems which is obviously happening to everyone. I'm fine with it. Best phone I've had. And I've had em all from iphone to blackberry to android.

No software problems here, and don't yet have a good sense of the battery, but this hinge is driving me nuts.
Also, you're missing at least one more option in the poll: "I have a problem but I can live with it."
I have had my g 2 for 24 hours and love it. fast and smooth and no broken parts. I travel and I have had excellent signal. have only charge my battery 1 time in the last 24 hours. coming from blackberry this device beats it hands down

when sending or receiving picture messages, the phone resizes the picture to 12kb.. its ridiculous! i could send 1mb pictures with a goddamn Razr 4 years ago!.. anyone know how this can be fixed? also the voice recognition is useless.. the hardware keyboard is a bit flimsy, but i try to not use it much for that reason.. the battery doesn't last that long if you have "background sync" or whatever its called turned on. i turned all that crap off so now the battery actually lasts
I have had mine for about a week. Two things mildly annoy me: the speakerphone is tinny and when I place the phone screen up, my carefully customized mp3 ringtones sound weird. Two, the battery life seems to barely eke by to a day and this is without even getting on to the GPS and Bluetooth bandwagon. Just HSPA/EDGE surfing. Heck, I barely even use it to make calls. An extremely minor minor irritant is that when I tap on the app drawer (I am using LauncherPro) there seems to be a millisecond lag before the apps zoom out. I find that a bit clunky, but no serious complaints.
No big complaints about mine. I love it. Best phone ever.
Few small quirks/bugs I've noticed.
Trackpad moves itself when in bright sunlight or in a car and sun goes behind trees.
I've had one random reboot. But it was while streaming Pandora with headphones in my car with no A/C on a 95 degree day. Phone was quite hot and rebooted itself.
MMS slideshow sucks though an update should fix that.
Hinge, battery life, speed and data connection are all excellent in my opinion.
That's about it... I came from a Cliq and could not be happier.
After 24 hours the worst thing that I have had happen to me is the phone rattles a bit when it vibrates.
Otherwise so far it seems to be the best phone I've owned. I don't even know if I'll root it!
I messed up the news and weather app because I always get a force close now. I don't know where I went wrong.
I've replaced the clock app and it should be fine for now... using it with tasker if I had clock open and change orientation, id get the geniewidget error force close.
Don't like mms slideshow. Rare random reboot. I'm still happy with this phone though.

Well I will have had my phone for two weeks on Sunday (10/17/2010). I just sold my Nexus one on Ebay this week. So yes I like this baby a lot. Its faster than the N1, I love the design. I have had one random reboot, my hinges are fine. I think it's the nature of the design, not a defect. They're suppose to be loose. Plus in actual use when are you going to hold a five hundred dollar upside down. If I have one gripe it maybe the screen coming from the n1, I'll miss them black levels. But overall it's an nice upgrade. Love stock android.
ive had mine for a few days now. coming from an N1, then to a samsung vibrant, now to this.
absolutely love it, my only dislikes are not having a dedicated number row on the keypad, and charge port placement. but as far as the hinge goes, i can lay in bed with it upside down and still text. no issues there. i just cant wait until i can get a new rom on it to adjust the track pad illumination like i had with cyanogen on my N1
but no real "problems"
I've had my G2 for a week now, and I absolutely love it. It's the first smartphone I've ever bought new, so just getting to unbox it was a treat. I haven't found anything wrong with the phone at all. Only gripe is that the led light doesn't blink when there's a new message/call. A light around the track pad flashes instead, but it is almost impossible to see except in the dark. Otherwise I love everything about my G2.

I've had mine for 2 weeks now. Everything is fine, keyboard gap I can cope with, it only happens when phone is held upside down.
I'm loving the speed of this thing.

Got mines on pre-order and i do have the upside down hinge situation but its far from a problem for me since I don't use my phone that way and don't know anyone who does. Phones is perfect through and through, awaiting root!
I have several problems with mine.
1) Autorotate is a FAIL, doesn't seem to work at all, so I just have it disabled.
2) Reception is even bigger FAIL. It can't get a signal in midtown NYC very well, while my junky Nokia 6030 has full signal almost everywhere. It can't even hold a WiFi signal in my house very well, while any other device does. (802.11g).
I had one replacement phone shipped to me by T-Mobile with a very defective hinge (When you opened it up, it would wobble like it wasn't seated properly) and I'm waiting on my second replacement (or 3rd phone) to arrive via UPS. Odds are I'm going to send them all back, this phone is a pretty big dissapointment for me.
Also I'm not a huge fan of the physical keyboard, I thought I'd use it a lot more than I do (which is almost never)
I regret being an "early adopter" for sure this time. It's been a huge waste of time, money, and trips to the UPS store for returning the phone (I pre-ordered the phone from T-Mobile)
1) Not a problem, just a personal thing: Wish keyboard had another row. Coming from Tilt2 I was used to 5 rows. This one seems to have too much going on.
2) I swithched to T-Mo for this phone. Don't know anyone else w/ T-Mo in my area. They advertise I am in a strong 3G area and very close to a HSDPA+ area. I only get Edge speeds. Even with a very strong full bar, it stays on edge. Using Speedtest.net I avg. 32kbs. Using my Tilt2 on AT&T I avg 1500kbs. Customer Service tried to convince me (in a very friendly voice) that I would be very happy with the much slower speeds. They are wrong.
Overall, I love the device, but will return it Monday. I may wait a few weeks to see if any radio updates become widespread that may help. Otherwise, I will have to go with a Sprint EPIC. I wish there were more quality QWERTY Android handsets on the market.
Mine actually works pretty well. I have the hinge issue, but thats it. Really I almost accept the hinge as being a non-spring loaded hinge, which makes it kinda cool that it doesn't need it.
If it did have something locking it into place, thats just something to break later on.
No software issue's here.
Hardware: No issues other than the crappy external speaker. My hinge is fairly tight and I have had the phone since Sept. 30th. I have to hold it by the screen and wiggle it quite a bit before the keyboard drops. Really not an issue.
Software: My phone gets in a state where it is on a black screen and will not respond to power button input. I have to remove the battery for the phone to respond to power button input. It has happened 3 time since the 30th, once on the first day with the phone being straight stock (no apps installed by me). It happens if the phone is left in sleep mode for a long time. If I am constantly using the phone as I am most of the time, I do not see this problem. I am half convinced that it is some of the embedded apps that run in the background all the time. IE: My Account, Photobucket, Finance and all that jazz. When I had my app killer set to thirty minutes I did not see the issue. Now that I have it kill apps when the screen turns off it doesn't kill the apps when left asleep for an extended period and the bug has reared its' ugly head twice since then.
Other than that I love this phone coming from the nexus one. Better data connectivity, better gps lock, way better screen, way better camera, ****tier audio recording quality.
Can't really complain.
I got mine on Oct 1. As far as I can tell, it's perfect. It rebooted once when I had been wandering around our building at work checking the coverage and running speed tests. I'd probably run the xtreme speedtest +30 times. Its been rock solid since and before.
I have no problems and no complaints.

Hey guys. Finally said good bye to old champion Galaxy S2 and now on Nexus 4! Love the device. However, I'm in a situation where I need to decide if I should get a replacement or not.
- I do hear that buzz sound in earpiece (not loud though - sometimes its not there)
- Rattling sound -- it is related to lens I realize
Is it worth it to get replacement (given replaced device may be in the same boat lol). Lots of people are reporting these issues.
the buzz sound...I hope its not going to increase in future?
Rattling sound -- I don't really care about that. However, I do go to gym and run. Can it damage camera?
Let me know your thoughts
I hate restoring backups and configuring everything all over again. (including wasting the screen protector lol)

The rattling in the camera is normal. Auto shutter or some **** that moves. Its normal. The buzzing is not. Some have them some don't. If you can't ignore it replace it. You paid for a phone don't buzz so don't put up with it unless you don't feel its a big deal.

I bought my phone on launch day. I feel like my buzzing has become worse over time. And it gets worse the fewer bars I have (I recently traveled to a different state with worse coverage and the buzzing became annoying and would get worse right before it dropped a call). I'd consider RMAing it. However, even the new ones have the problem, as you can attest to. I'm probably going to RMA my phone at some point, I'm just lazy.

I got replacement device and it still has the same issue!! even worse than the original one. So disappointed I love nexus but can't keep up with this week after week replacement.
will be sending device back for refund. Ahh what other phone is next. Not sure lol wait for S4 or try Z10
The rattle you hear isn't the camera.
It's the little thing you have to press to eject the simcard.
If u eject the simcard you can put a little piece of paper or something like that behind it and it stops rattling
Do this at your own risk!

If the issues are actually affecting you then get a replacement, Google send you the replacement first before you actually send your defective unit in so you dont have to worry about being without a phone.
