Hey all, this is my first post...be nice...
I recently bought a replacement housing off of cnn.cn for my 8525, and did the replacement myself. After putting everything back together (and not finding any extra parts), I found out my screen does not rotate when I pull the keyboard out. I've already eliminated it being a software problem.
Does anyone here know how the OS detects that the keyboard is out? I tried looking for some type of hardware switch inside the device, but couldn't find anything.
Am I missing something obvious here?

As you might have noticed in my previous thread, my Wizard took a splash.
Now, after ordering a new LCD screen, my keyboard seems to have stopped working on certain keys, and the LEDS won't go on anymore.
I think the flat cable between the board and the keyboard unit has gotten a breach in it.
Now, does anybody know where I can get a replacement keyboard, the electronics that is?
Or does anybody have a broken wizard I can buy cheap to canabalise to repair my own?
I can't seem to find anything on the internet, and I am really fond of my little Wizard.
Please, can someone help me ,before I go broke trying to buy myself a new one?
Hi,
I got my 8525 secondhand off ebay, and I'm having problems with it. I did a clear storage or a reset of sort, and I'm stuck in loop of screen alignings. Originally, before I did the reset, the touch screen does not respond when I tap on the top right, and the screen alignment loop was also there when I chose to align screen and I had to take out the battery to fix it. I notice small pieces of cardboard stuck in between the side of the lcd and casing so would that be the problem here? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
Sounds like the digitizer is stuffed... You may have to replace the LCD.
You can get them off EBay for $70AUD and there is a Service Manual so you can open and fix yourself. Here - http://michael-channon.spaces.live....ner=1&partqs=cat=Download+HTC+Service+Manuals
Its not too hard but you will need a small flat blde screwdriver, a small phillips head and a size 6 torque key.
All the best of luck,
Cheers...
Thanks Ultramag
I did a bit of research, and I came across this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405432
It seems we both have a similar problem. Would the software method work for my case? I want to avoid dismantling the hardware if possible.
Thanks again.
Yes and no. You need another Hermes (same model) to get the alignment settings from and this is only to get the phone operational so you can use it. It WON'T fix the touchscreen, Its just a stopgap measure until you replace the faulty LCD.
I was lucky as I have a few friends who I sorta got into the hermes who I could get the settings off. You can navigate around your hermes without th touchscreen but its a REAL *****. Bought a couple of Jasjams off the net and was lucky enough that BOTH worked. Still put my mainboard into 1 and gave the other to a friend who was having similar issues...
Hope that helps...
Thanks mate, I really appreciate it.
Ok so I have two problems. Hopefully one of the geniuses here at xda might be able to help me
1st problem:
I was completely changing the harness / case for my herald and when everything was done all seemed fine, but... When I open my wing it does not rotate anymore, is there a switch or something that I forgot to align with the case once closing? Any help would be appreciated
2nd problem:
I'm using google maps through gprs(Data plan) and for some reason the gps finds me, but is like 200-2000 meters away from the location that I'm actually at. Is there a way to get it spot on? I know other phones have it dead on(For ex, my brother's iphone)
My phone: Herald 4351
Thank you!!!!!!!!
There is a little magnet that you must have forgotten to put into your new case. It's located on the bottom of the inside of the LCD compartment.
I did attach it, but what is the second piece that is supposed to slide by the magnet?
Hmm, i just recently replaced my wing with the black housing and all I did was put the magnet there and it worked, I don't know what else could be missing??
Anybody have a broken HTC uni?? I need the part that connects the mainboard to the screen, my son got a hold of mine XDA EXEC version and kept turning the screen around and around.
Anyways I took it all apart and found the faulty part so I'm looking for one the possibly got wet, broken screen, broken ports, broken keyboard etc...
Or possibly if anyone knows of a place where I can find the parts...

You can just get the part off eBay, it's something like $25-$30.
I had a similar need: I had to buy a broken screen Universal, to take the motherboard out and fix my device (problems with bootloader...)
I got a screen damaged Uni from ebay with 16 pounds, and when I got it I saw the screen ok, and only had to push the connector inside a little harder and all was good. So I got a fully functional Universal device for 16GBP. My advice is you try Ebay.
I broke the screen of my X Compact and replaced it myself. I used a replacement where screen and frame were already glued together. However, now the fingerprint reader is not working anymore. The phone seems like there is no fingerprint reader installed at all. The system (settings and diagnosis app) does not even give me the menus related to the fingerprint reader. Other apps also do not see it. The power button however works as expected. Therefore my questions to you fellow X Compact owners:
Did anyone else replace the screen successfully?
Or did anyone else have the same problem?
Did anyone replace the fingerprint reader successfully?
Thank you for your help!
P.S.: Besides this issue, the phone is very easy to open and to replace parts, except for the battery. Sony used very little glue, and many components can be replaced seperately. The only problem is that the battery is glued to the main board, which could be a problem when one eventually has to replace the battery...
You can still replace the battery fairly easily, though it is a bit hard to get off.
Did your replacement come with the button flex cable or did you use yours? The connectors and such are all well? This never happened to me on the z5c, which I think is very similar to the X compact. You didn't change anything in the software?

thank you for your answer! I kept the fingerprint reader, I just migrated it from the old frame to the new one. I kept all the flexcables too. The button itself is working, just the finger print part is not. The connector should be well, I re-opened it and checked. No software change.
Did you ever replace a fingerprint reader? Is there hardware verification?
