The softkey on my keyboard popped up and will not go down!!!! help!!!
Well I had to take the phone apart to get the key to go down... Talk about stressfull the phone is a week old and I had to take it apart. Well anyones everything went ok minus my screens light will go out for a second or two while im typing or when i flip the phone open the screen changes right away but the light takes a few seconds to turn on. Is there any reason why the phone would do this? I thought I might of messed up a connector but the screen will rotate it just takes a while for the light to catch up... Any ideas?
looks like a loose connector(loosing light when pulling the keyboard)
Yeah but I just checked out the other thread and it seems there are a lot of people who have this issue.

So after installing the WM6 ROM Core 2.0 and using it for a while i started to get this white screen, after using it for about a month, that would keep on appearing if unless i had the keyboard slightly slid out. So i decided to switch to Faria's Pro ROM Kitchen hoping it would fix it, but it didn't. This white screen that keeps popping up covers the entire screen and nothing i do seems to make it stop. This screen is really annoying especially when trying to watch movies and when coming out of wakeup and receiving phone calls, as it covers the whole screen not allowing me to see. Is there a way to fix this so this white screen does not keep coming up. I would really appreciate the Help.
What do you mean exactly by "white screen coming up" ???
Does your screen turn blanc or is there a window popping up?
If you can do the following without having too much trouble with backing up and stuff like that: install you shipped ROM for a while and see if it still appears!
Other than that I guess there is a hardware problem!
Well its a blank screen that covers up the whole screen its not like a window the whole screen just turns white. I did install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM when i switched to Faria's WM6 ROM, but it still was there for the short time i had it.
Do you have your phone passworded? That causes a white screen to come up just after you wake your phone if you don't have it set to ask for the password upon wakeup. It usually goes away after about half a second but maybe yours is sticking there for some reason. Try turning off your password and see if that fixes it. You may not want to keep your phone without password protection but at least you'll know whats causing the white screen. You might also try changing the "prompt if device unused for" to a longer duration and see if that maybe helps.
well i dont have a password set, so i dont think it is the password, the thing is that it doesnt only come up after wakeup, if the device does not have the keyboard slid out slightly it will come up just after about 40 secs. Sometimes it comes up right in the middle of me doing something like changing some options. If i have the keyboard slid out all the way it will do the same thing. It only does not come up if the first rows of keys at the bottom of the keyboard are visible. Has this happened to anyone else? is there a way to fix this?
Someone help PLEASE.
Sounds like your phone is undecided whether it wants to go into portrait or landscape mode..
What do you mean? if my phone has the keyboard closed then after about 20-40 secs the entire screen will turn white, then when i slide the keyboard out just slightly the screen goes away, and as long as i have the keyboard slightly slid out the screen wont turn white. I am thinking of sending my MDA in to get a Wing, does anyone know if i am allowed to do this since my MDA is acting werid?
I sent a text last night at like 3am and the keyboard worked fine. I woke up this morning and am unable to type on the keyboard. The only buttons that work are the comm manager and camera. Also, the enter button on keyboard works, however, not how its suppose to. It opens up the start menu. If I turn the screen on then open up comm manager and close it the keyboard will work for a minute or so, but when i turn screen off and turn it back on i must do this over every single time.
Anyone have any idea what is wrong with my phone its very annoying to not be able to use any buttons especially the call and hang up buttons on the front. Also, when the screen is on the green and red phone buttons on front never turn off. Thanks for any help.
Do you have small children, or a mischievous bedmate, pet, or such?
This sounds suspiciously like a foreign matter has been introduced into your phone. I would carefully disassemble and clean the inside contacts of your buttons. All of them. Use compressed air, unless you actually see a substance on the contacts, then use an (isopropyl) alcohol-dampened cotton swab, and wait patiently for the unit to dry completely before reassembly. Check the unit for smears that will give away the presence of foreign substances after cleaning and before reassembly. If it's really clean, there should be no smears...and use tweezers to remove any cotton you leave behind.
Short of that, I would be uninstalling any new software that was installed right before the problems appeared. Even a known good software can load corrupted every now and then. Just look at the glut of "help me" messages on this board from people loading software, if you don't believe it.
Nothing should have come into contact with my phone from the time it was working until the time it wasn't.
After the problem started I have tried hard re-setting and also putting on entirely new roms and the same problem still exists.
I will try taking phone apart later and cleaning the inside to see if that is the problem but it seems weird that the buttons will work if I open up the comm manager and then close it. Although they stop working again by the time I get another text.
I'll agree that it sounds weird, but I stand by my suggestion, until you report otherwise...
It just sounds too much like a hardware problem to me...
Im having the exact same problem...did the cleaning help...pls tell me.
Anyone else having their touch screen stop working property until they have to reboot? It's like it gets way off on where I'm actually clicking.
I have experienced that, but only after I had flashed the modaco rom. I basically returned to stock firmware this morning and am having to re-root my phone...
I have had a couple of occasions where it doesnt seem to respond correctly.
For me its like it looses the calibration, seemed to noticed it when the device is tilted horizontally.
reboot sorts it, only happened once or twice though.
If the phone is in your hand, make sure your other fingers aren't curling over the screen around the edges to much.
I noticed this happening, and backed my fingers off around the edge of the screen and it started working fine immediately.
I think the screen is just extra sensitive.
Curious if that helps.

I read somewhere (maybe on this forum even) that non-multi-touch systems have this problem. Have the same issue with my HTC Magic, but after a while you learn of a way to use the device single-handed while not touching the screen.
I dont know if this helps or not but I have no idea what you guys are talking about

The calibration problem (the screen registers a wrong spot than where you touched) comes up if you try to use a non-multi-touch phone single-handedly, so part of your palm (between the thumb and index fingers) touches the edge of the touch screen. Especially if you are trying to reach a top area of the screen while holding the phone with just that hand, likely some part of the palm touches the bottom of the screen.
If you want to try having the problem, you can touch the edge of the screen with a finger and try to click a link with another. It won't register the right spot.
Supposedly the problem should go away as soon as you lift that body part up from the screen.... so I don't know if this helps the OP or not.
same issue

does not look like its happening all the time. Ran few tests and still can't duplicate the problem in order to find the cause. so far this happened about 3-4 times on my phone.
i hope this gets resolved soon and that its not the touchscreen issue.

I've had this exact thing happen to me a few times. I notice the tip of a finger on the edge of the screen, move it, then it works fine right after. Sometimes happens with the base of my thumb hitting the bottom left corner too.
Just make sure you're not accidentally touching any of the touch area and it'll work fine.
same here

I have had this same issue on my G1 as well a N1. This problem only happens from time to time, as happes with stock ROMs and custom ROMs.
For the N1, I was initial pulling the battery; however, I have found that if I hold the power button down (don't let go) and then touch the screen to unlock or power if off.
I have a friend with the Eris who was having the same problem; Verizon released a patch earlier in the week that seems to have solved the problem for him.

You can perform a soft reset on the Nexus One by holding volume down, the trackball, and pressing the Power button on top. A half second later, your phone will reboot.
I am also having these touch screen problems, and I can confirm I am not touching any other part of the screen to have it interfere with the non-touch-screen interface. I been testing with what people has been saying on here with having any other part of the screen being pressed, so I have been testing it out and I can say its a different response then what I'm experiencing.
Here is what is going on with my nexus one:
1) it happens at random times (my device is on my table and I am pressing buttons with one finger)
2) it only affects the bottom-left portion of the screen when it happens, touching everywhere else is fine
3) it thinks I'm pressing an area around the soft keys, an example is if I press 'A' it thinks I press either the '?123' or the 'back' button, same if I press 'd' it thinks I'm pressing the 'menu' button.
I can conclude that since not all nexus one owners has this problem it is a device issue, which what is going on is probably the same as if someone was accidentally pressing a part of the screen, but it could be part of the device is assembled incorrect or deformed. The physical form of my phone is off on the right side, I can feel the gray plastic part next to the black border next to the right of the screen is a little more raised then the left side.
But there is my experience with whats going on to me and my two cents.
Ive had this a little bit on my device as well, but I think it's a software issue since it went away when I pressed the home button.
edit:
Also it has happened exclusively in Dolphin browser
here too
Sporadically, it happens with my N1 as well. When pointing at the middle of the screen (in a list for example), the input registers 2 cm below my fingertip. Rebooting fixes this temporarily but it is annoying.
A SW update could perhaps cure this behaviour?

I just had this happen for the first time, all my presses were registering way below where i was touching, tilting into landscape in an app then back to portrait fixed it for me.
So now it happened to me too. I have the Nexus One for almost two weeks and I never had the unresponsive touchscreen. Of course I noticed that the center of the softbuttons is shifted upwards and that they don't register very well in the middle where they should and I had the problem before that the sms text input box didin't registered in the center so that the keyboard wasn't popping out but that is all only a problem of adjustment. Today in the morning after my phone was on standby over night I put in the charger to charge it and I got an email with pictures. I scrolled through the email and all of a sudden the screen became totally unresponsive. I tried to scroll and the screen registered at a complete different place. All of a sudden the email was gone because the phone registered the delete button even though I never pressed it. I could close the gmail program but I had a hard time to scroll between the home screens and the live wallpaper became unresponsive too. I decided to do a restart but I had a hard time to press the shutting down button because it was unresponsive too. This all happened not after heavily usage of the phone but after maybe 1 minute usage.
I am sure that I didn't touch another part of the screen when this occured because I realized before already that the screen becomes wacky if you touch it at two different places (lack of multitouch, so stupid to disable it). I hope that this is a software issue too. I can live at the moment with the 3G problem because it doesn't stop me from using the phone. The unresponsive touchscreen scares me more because because it becomes completely unusable.
i've noticed this with low battery. Twice its happened to me, the first time was when i first recieved the handset. and secondly was this morning when my phone was off with no battery again.
anybody want to leave their battery to empty out and try test if this is correct?
I've had this happen a few times in the ten days i've had the phone. I always make sure I'm not double dipping on the screen, and its easy to do since it will exhibit this behavior for a few minutes.
In my experience battery level has no effect on it.
A reboot always fixes the issue.
I figure it's software based.
okay, so long story short, I got the P4000 for telus... but in any case regardless of the providor, it seems the keyboard backlight has stopped working. It use to work on and off, then went to working when I flicked the corner of the keyboard sometimes, and then went to just never working... is there a place to buy a keyboar (i've searched up and down, and the only keyboards I can find are the ones for the Call, D-pad, windows button, and okay button... like on the main face)... but I mean the QWERTY keyboard... I've looked on E-bay but come to no qwrty keyboard.
Secondly... vibrator... dropped my phone 2 times within 2 days, and then it landed right where the USB plug is... half-a$$ worked when it did, and then droped it again the next night in a fight with my gf and then it don't work at all... very annoying to not have it vibrate any more. Can't be silent about using it... so is there a way to fix it with glue... before I try to pry it open or anything... I duno what I'm even going to be looking at if I did...
... well I take it with all the views, and lack there of a response... I can't do much about it?
Hello, My G1 has just suffered a problem, i was scrolling down a web page and the screen faded out like it had lost power but the backlight was still on, the keys lit up and it still could make the trackball clicking noise when you moved it. I took out the battery and left it for 5 minutes and rebooted my phone and the screen turned on for about 3 seconds and faded out like before but it did boot into android as I heard the notification/startup sound. I think that the screen has burnt out but im not shore so has anybody had this problem before and/or might know how to fix it
Just some more infomation, If the screen dies and I leave it for a few minutes, when I unlock it or slide the screen up, the screen works for a few seconds but then fades. Also the fading looks like the screen lost power or like its losing pixels
From my experience with phone hardware this doesnt look like screen problem, but rather the lamp driver in the motherboard. the only way to narrow down is test the motherboard /screen with another phone.
If this is the case, it might require servicing the backlight driving circuit, which by far requries soldering/desoldering some components in motherboard.

had the same problem its a hardware issue. tmobile sent me a new phone no questions asked
Thanks for the replies, it seems that it has fixed its self as I've been using it for about 5 hours and no problems so far, I'm using it right now to type this, if the problem persists I will try and fix it or just buy a new one
