Touching the power button switches off Wizard... - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

Hi,
First of all, a million thanks to all the folks in this forum whose insights, tips, custom ROMS and help have made my new HTC MDA a dream phone.
However, I have a very strange and irritating problem. The moment I press the power button, ever so slightly, the phone switches off completely. On the first day, it was actually putting off the screen and another press would turn it back on. Ever since I flashed to newer roms (right now on WM6), Im seeing this issue.
As a side note, the phone seems to switch off itself any time it goes into power saving mode, ie if I have not used it for a few hours. So now I have disabled that at the cost of battery life.
Please folks, any help would be usefull here. Im at my wits end...

I'm having pretty much the same problem. I don't even have to touch anything. I've had it for a month I've flashed it then & it's been happening for a couple of days. The phone goes of by itself... help !!!

I even changed the battery to make sure the battery is not giving up power all of a sudden. But then that is not helping and another $20 gone down the drain !
Im sure there must be someone who has seen this behaviour and could help newbies like us. Keeping fingers crossed...

Atom's keypad problem, super-HUGE problem!

Ok, on a beautiful day [aka 2 days back], I turned on the Atom and realized that there's a weirdest problem I've ever seen. It seems like the "up-arrow" button (or "north" in the d-pad) is being pressed all the time without being released. If I activate the start menu, for example, it would just automatically going through all the items bottom to top and back again.
First I thought it was a software problem, so I soft-reset it several times. That didn't help. But I found out something. If the atom was soft-reset, the problem does not appear until a hardware button is pressed [ie you can enjoy the touch-screen all you want]
So, I tried hard-resetting. Didn't help either. So I talked to myself, why not try some different ROM? So I did, tried it with 2 older ROMs from O2 (I have all the ROMs released). Didn't help.
It was frustrating because along with "keypad problem" you get another one free: there's no way to turn off the Atom. Try it yourself, holding an arrow button and press the power one, see if it turned off. So, I left the battery drain, just to see how it'd be.
After an afternoon, the atom drained completely. So I had to recharged it and wait. Surprisingly, after charged again, the problem seemed to go away! Thank god...
Now, I was trying to reproduce the problem again but no luck (or should I call it luck). After a few hours leaving it alone, when turned on, it was doing it again! I was so mad, I would have banged the thing on to the wall if I had another phone to use atm. Anyways, I left it to drain the battery and there it was, working again, for the whole night
This morning, when I woke up, guess what, it was doing it AGAIN!!! I'm so desparate now. Tell me what to do, please.
Thanks for going thru the problem w/ me. This is, by far, the weirdest and most frustrating problem I've ever experienced.
Stuck Button?
Hey I had a problem like this with my Wizard 8125 except it was with the Wireless Manager Button, acting as if it was always being pressed. I tried all the same things you did, but the only thing that solved it was taking it apart, blowing out any dust and making sure nothing like particles or sand or dirt was lodged between the button and the sensor. I guess you could try this and take your Atom apart. I have an Atom now but I don't know how to take it apart. Maybe search for the Technical manual on the web or on this site.
I hope this helps!
Thanks pelicantacos. However, being an all-thumb as I am, I don't think I have the courage to do it. But it's good to know one probable cause. Thanks again.
one more possibilities:
you have water between sensors. After you regarge, temperature go up (from battery), and water go out....

[Q] phone shutting down whilst screen lock

has anyone faced the phone switching off even when it's screen locked? This happened a few times to me.
1st scenario is when my phone is in a waist pouch which is a little tight for this model. when i take it out of the pouch, i either find it off or waiting at the sim unlock screen. this is caused by pressing the power button accidentally.
2nd scenario is after charging over night, i wake up to find the phone asking me to key in sim unlock pin (it will not be completely off because whenever charger is plugged in, it will power up). The phone was screen locked before i charge it and i did not touch the power button by accident unlike scenario 1.
which ever the scenario, by right the power off button shouldn't work whilst in screen lock right?
The same scenarios happend to me, sometimes more than once a day. Very annoying.
I too have this issue, especially the overnight charging one, which is annoying because then the alarm fails to go off!!! After convincing 2 other people to get the Trophy 7 they also experience this.
I called HTC support in the UK yesterday and all they could suggest to me was that I reset the phone settings, which I've done, and of course ended up needing to put all my settings back in which is extremely frustrating when I expect that it won't fix anything.
I really would recommend calling HTC support in your country and logging a call, because the guy told me that I was the first to report it.
You can get the phone numbers from the htc website, which i cannot post the URL to since I'm a new user, but I'm sure you can find it. Go to "Support" -> "Customer Service" -> "Support by hotline"
Of course, you could not call them to report the issue, but then they'll think that I'm the only user in the world with the problem and not actually resolve it!!! It's going to take you about 10mins and they'll keep talking to you about windows mobile 6.5, instead of windows phone, but the more calls logged = greater chance of resolution.
I've had the turning of when it's in my pocket, but i've never had it turn of overnight when charging.
at least not that i've noticed
Whilst experimenting with android on my touch pro from the very beginning when you couldn't enter a sim code, i've removed it and i'm to lazy to set a new one
All the problems (screen freeze of crazy dancing icons of phone shutting down) solved after FLASHING newest WWE ROM from this forum. Maybe helps, but U have to decide and do it yourself or not.
This has happend MANY times on my trophy aswell.. I ended up turning off the sim lock code (That way the phone starts up again after boot and your alarms etc works)
Yup, I've had the "pocket" thing also happen to me, more than once in the same day... quite frustating.
Qtek S200 (HTC Prophet) After ROM update, its now shutting down whilst in sleep mode
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but recently I upgraded my s200's ROM using the CD utility that came with it. Its now running Build 14928.2.2.0 of WM5.
Before the ROM update it has never done it once.
Some people said they got the problem when it went into lock screen, my lock screen is fine. It will only do it when the phone is in sleep mode, if i disable the "power off" timout setting then its absolutly fine aslong as i dont press the power button.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?
Somebody did mention about flashing the rom from one of OS's on this site, but all the ones I have found contain dead rapidshare links.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
My solution on Trophy is simple, using a Casemate case on my phone. It makes the off button so stiff, that it's hard to shut off.
I guess I never realized why it was such a pain in the case to shut off... this MUST be the reason. Also, since I now have two Trophy's (one for developing roms), this other one I just bought has been through hell, and it's difficult to half press the camera button to focus. The Casemate case I have on my good Trophy makes it far harder to press the camera button, but my year old Trophy that I've always had doesn't suffer from any problems with its camera button.
This is the newer version of the Casemate case I was using on my HTC Trophy. I don't know if this will help you with your older phone, but maybe Casemate makes a case for it. Since it's an older phone, it will be difficult.

Issue with not turning on

I've had my tab 10.1 since august and I rooted it to CM9 around 1month or so ago. (maybe longer!)
Last night I picked it up after getting home (it had been on charge through out the day) and it was off. (normally unplugging the charger turns the screen on)
It also will not respond to the power button at all! I left it off charge over night and tried again this morning but still no success...
Does anyone have any ideas what this might be? (there have been no signs of a power outage/surge in my house while out)
Also should I be worried that If I send it off they won't fix it as its been rooted?Or because should be able to tell till its actually working again, I have nothing to worry about?
I think I read somewhere that while holding the power switch, also hold your finger on the touch screen at the same time, and see if that helps.
thanks I will give this a test when I get home! Any other ideas for trying to solve this?
It's possible that it's the Samsung "Sleep of Death" issue.
Here's the way that I fixed mine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1478361
@PynkFloydd
I was just in the process of trying what your suggested as it sounded promising that others may have had the same issue...
Just as I was putting masking tape over the power button it turned on...I was a little annoyed that I had started your guide and I wanted to finish it but never the less... I got my tablet working again
THANKS!!!
Great to hear! I've recovered a few Android tabs and I've noticed that sometimes it just takes a little luck and a little patience and it comes back from its vacation.

LG G2 D802 - Power Button Problem

Hey everyone,
First of all thank you for taking a look in my thread, this is my second post here in this forum but, I just have to tell you guys, I've been around since 2012 and you guys rock!
Anyway enough of chit chat, so I had my phone pretty much hard bricked, thanks to some tutorials I've finally found a way to get it back to life BUT ( there's always a but ), it isn't like before, everything was working very nicely after the fix, the Power button stopped working, the volume rockers are still fully functional but the power button isn't. So I thought "f*ck this, I gotta buy a new flex assembly", that's what I did, it arrived today, so I got to work and put it all together with the new button, but for my surprise it is EXACTLY de same as before, so it seems like it has nothing to do with the flex assembly/buttons itself but something more like motherboard or something..
Have any one of you guys had this issue? By the way another very interesting thing is that the buttton "still gives signal" since if I press on it, it doesn't do anything even with the phone off BUT, if I have the phone turned on, and I press it for 5+ seconds , it shutdowns the phone as it should! So why isn't it working when I do a press, but if I hold it works?
By the way my phone when died even the partition table got corrupted, so I even had to redo that could it have anything to do with it?
Oh and the basic tips of putting the phone in Download Mode and fully revert to stock didn't work, already did it many times since I brought it back to like..
Regards, and thank you for reading this LONG post and spending your time with me :silly:

Hi, i has been a long time until you wrote this topic, but now, in 2018, i got the same problem that you.
I bricked the phone, unbricked with some xda's tutorials, install a kdz image and system got ok, but the damn power button not work.
It work on a very specific moment that is when the phone is on and i press the button, after 5 seconds the phone turn off, but none menu appears, it just turn off. Besides, it won't work to turn on the device. In this case, i aways need to put the cable and when the LG log appears I must remove (if not, the battery symbol is shown, and the device not turn on).
I wonder if you were able to fix your phone or someone of xda had this problem.
Thanks
Nope never got it fixed just moved on and bought another device, besides that is now a outdated device..

HTC U Ultra - Home button keeps failing

Hi all,
Long time no post here!
I have an HTC U Ultra, about one year old, heavy usage. All of a sudden the Home button has started to fail. I have fingerprint scanning enabled, but it doesn't work when the screen is unlocked either, so I'm not sure it is related to the fingerprint scanner, I think it's more a hardware/software issue with the button...
I have followed another thread on this but I'm not able to resolve it.
The only thing that seems to temporarily resolve the issue is to switch it off, give the screen a good wet wipe clean and then switch it back on again. Just rebooting doesn't resolve the issue.
It seems to be getting worse in as much as it seems to be failing more often and increased regularity. I'm reluctant to factory reset it as I'll have to reconfigure it all again and I have read on other threads that it does not resolve the problem. The back and other (don't know what it is called!) button work fine.
Does anyone know what the cause is or shall I send it in for repair?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Interesting this just started happening to me too , also 1 year and few month old phone and heavy usage.
Not to mention that since day 1 , the charger that came with the phone suddenly stops charging.
I bought another original HTC charger, and it behaves exactly the same.
especially when battery is very low like 10% or less, it don't charge at all.
I regret buying this phone, worst phone I have ever had
