I am have been using XDA orbit now for three months and there are a few niggles does anyone have any comments if it's worth switching to the Trion and how do I go about getting GPS facility on trion do i need a bluetooth receiver?
Orbit: 200MHz OMAP 850 CPU and Built in GPS
Trion: 400MHz Samsung CPU and no GPS
I'd go for the Trion - (I have the Orange version SPV M3100 and love it)
You will need a bluetooth satellite receiver though. I use TomTom.

I am currenty using a Orange SPV M1000 (XDA II) and thinking of having a upgrade to the SPV M2000 (XDA IIs)
I am currently using a wired GPS reciever and car charger Oh wise ones of the Forum Can you answer this queston.
Will this wired reciever and car charger work on the M2000?
Is the car charger port the same on both manchines?
I know a lot of people use bluethooth recievers but i was wondering if i can use the equipment that i already have till i purchase a bluethooth reciever.
Many Thanks
Mine does- I had an M1000 that was connected to a wired gps receiver and now I have upgrade to an XDA IIs and it all still works perfectly.

Just baught Jamin. Pretty happy. But the question is whom should I trust?
Imate show 200Mhz on their web site, Machine and guys in Inkino says it's 195Mhz.
One more question:
Is there a way of using bluetooth stereo headset with Jamin without external adapter???
The JAMin has a 195Mhz process, NOT 200 Mhz. You will be able to use a BT stereo headset once the AKU 2.0 ROM is available within the next 4 weeks.
Thanks!!!
actually it's even less than 195MHz
What makes you say that?
Hi,
I know some of you would be annoyed with me posting a topic which has been discussed on this forum but after searching a lot on this forum i could not decide whether to buy a bluetooth GPS reciever or Tomtom one?
I have tomtom software 5.21 with the maps and dont mind struggling a bit initially ( for the 1st time i mean ) to get the bluetooth GPS running with Exec but just want to ask all of those who are using their Exec with tomtom few questions.
How easy is it to use Exec with tomtom in day to day life?
Has anybody used both and what do they prefer and why?
Which GPS is the best cos i have seen few with 32 channel etc etc?
Thanx in advance!!
Jatt
I've been using TomTom on my Exec since about November last year, and to be honest, I wouldn't even consider getting a full TomTom device.
I've got a BT-77 GPS (about £45 off eBay), wired permanently on in my car (I've also got a second if I need to use it elsewhere), and had NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER getting it to work - in fact, I'm bemused at why the whole Bluetooth/GPS issue is such a big one. I simply paired the two, and set up a port - no messing about unhiding the GPS applet etc. Easy.
I've got a Brodit mount in the car - very good. I've also got a Parrot hands-free, so the Exec does everything in the car - phone and sat nav (with Traffic).
Downsides? Well, sometimes the Exec can take an age to start TomTom, but other than that, I'm struggling to think of any.
Cheers,
Steve.
Same rig as above poster (SPV m5000,Tt 5.21 & BT77 GPS receiver) but did have a little trauma with the Tomtom port problem at first  found the solution here though and now it's all good! Tomtom does suck the life out of that minuscule battery though, so a powered mount or a decent car charger are a must. As for the amount of receiver channels - the more the better (for tracking ability - look for ones with the SIRF III chip-set) i believe. Hope this helps
Thanks Oink1 and StevePritchard
I have ordered HOLOX Bluetooth GPS Reciever 32 Channel 4 TomTom from Ebay and it has SIRF III chip-set aswell.
Will let you know how it is for me
Bye
I have been using my Exec with TTN 5.21 for approaching a year now and use it with a SysOn 20 Channel SiRF Star Bluetooth GPS, brilliant piece of kit.
I wouldn't worry about the high end of GPS channel tracking as 12 - 20 suffices. The only problem that I've experienced was keeping the pairing but otherwise it works exceptionally.
Hi all,
Which software version of tomtom supports full postal code directions?
Thanks for all ur input
Bye

There are only 2 reasons that I can think of to choose the P3300 over the P3600...The P3300 has a wheel thingy and a roller ball in the middle, that would be personal choice, but I like the Dpad better. The P3300 has a slower processor so the battery lasts a bit longer, however if you limit the connection on the P3600 to Edge then it saves battery life. Otherwise, they are almost the same size. Why anyone would buy a P3300 now that the P3600 has GPS is a mystery to me.
Or hold off until June for the P4550

True. I just checked the specs again on the P4550.
Some things I liked:
USB 2.0 (finally not nec. to take out the card for file transfer)
Autofocus Camera
Slide out keyboard with a case the size of a Trinity
Increased ROM to 256mg (supposedly)
WM6
Things I didn't like:
Micro SD (this is a big negative unless 4gb microSD cards become available)

I've heard bad things about the GPS in the P3600, it seems to have a very bad sensivity compared to the P3300's top notch Sirf III.
Another point in favor of the P3300 would be its free upgrade to WM6.

Well, my experience is that in real world use, you don't see much of a difference. I have a SirfStarIII GPS too so I can compare, the Trinity is slower to lock on a cold boot, but once the Trinity is locked in it just works. I believe WM6 will come to the Trinity one way or another eventually.
I bought a P3300, but as soon as I discover that the P3600 has also GPS I exchanged the P3300 for a P3600.
P3600 vs. P3300:
P3600 has 3G + irda + 400Mhz
P3300 has radio + StarSirf III
I have tested both of them and I can say that although many people here says that there is no difference in the GPS, I can assure you that there IS a difference, mainly in cold start time and dilution of position, with my P3300 once you get the position fixed it stays centered around the real point with little dilution, with the P3600 I get change in position of between 5 and 30 meters without moving the HTC. If you are looking for a really good GPS the P3300 is the way to go, the P3600 is not good enough for difficult geocaching.
But.... I have also to say that although many people would tell you that 200Mhz in the P3300 is enough, I was quite unhappy with 200Mhz, many apps, starting by the GUI of WM5 would run slower and you can clearly notice it if you check both of them. Besides 400Mhz 3G (for the future) and IrDA (for the past) are good things. The P3300 has an integrated radio, but my iRiver HP-120 has it too (I won't use my P3600 as a mp3/radio player) so I can live without it.
Conclusion... I exchange a P3300 for a P3600 and I'm really happy, I think that the P3600 is the almost-definitive pocket pc, if they would have put a StarSirfIII in it I think I would keep it forever, anyway I don't look forward for a N95 or an iPhone ... P3600 fulfills all my needs. My recomendation ... if you need very high precission GPS go for the P3300 in other case, the P3600 is the MACHINE!
:-D
The accuracy of GPS on my P3600 is indecipherable from that of my old TomTom 500. The only difference is the cold start time to get first fix.
I have heard many things about the slow processor in the P3300 not being able to cope with many popular applications. It is I think half the mhz of a P3600 cpu.
The 3300 CPU is slower but its not directly proportionate to clock speed, its battery life will also be better. I have had no problems running any applications on my 3300 and if I overclock it to 250MHz then I would say it out performs my previous BlueAngel at speed over 300MHz.
The thing I really like about the 3300 is the jog dial / trackball - best control device I have used on a pocket device.
3300 has got a major issue regarding MicroSD card corruption though which may be WM5 related.
What memory card type does the 3600 have?
P3600 has miniSD

Hopefully it will be fully SDHC compatible, which is expected since it is a much newer device and hopefully HTC will have addressed the problem. If so, 4GB MicroSD cards will become available soon, SanDisk and Kingston have already announced them.
p3600 over orbit
i did have an orbit for a month could not live with slow prossesser and no 3g band
i now have spv m700 upgraded rom to dopod d810 and if you can do without radio its much better than orbit its faster and it has hsdpa system lets put this way its like a ford and bmw so which one you go for?
Happy P3600 User
Now that I got the official GPS-enabled ROM from HTC I am very happy with the Trinity/P3600. I agree with the earlier comments that if your main focus is GPS, then the built-in receiver in the 3600 may not be the ideal choice. That said, there's nothing to stop you using a BT receiver. I find the built-in works just fine and actually got rid of my BT receiver.
What really impresses me is the 3G connectivity, which finally makes internet access on a mobile really worthwhile. On a 3G network (which seems to be spreading daily), I can download e-mails, surf the web and make phone calls, all at the same time. It's so fast and reliable, I can even stream internet radio while driving to work!
I was thinking of getting a 4350 for the slide-out keyboard, but I'm not giving up 3G for anything. I will definitely look at the 4550.
Hi!
My problem is that I have Qtek s200 and TT6 and I tried it with friends BT GPS reciver. It worked like charm. I was so thrilled so I bought one for myself at once. But I noticed that TT6 with my new Skytraq GPS wasn't so "quick" as it was with my friends gps. It was "late" 10-20 meters and updated very slowly when I was turning on the new road. With other gps (from my friend) it worked superb!
I did some research and only difference I could find is that my friends GPS is SirfIII and mine is Skytraq (Holox BT-541). I am satisfied with other aspects Mine BT-541 is much better than the other gps (friend): battery time, sensitivity (indoor receiving), Smart power management with Vibration sensor so I don't freely want to change gps reciver. A lot of people on other forums says that it can depend on bluetooth connection.
Is there any help? Tweak?
I don't want to buy another one!
Thanks in advance!
Greetings from Sweden
Well I've got a cheap Holux too (rebranded as "nothing at all"...). With a WM5 Prophet (Qtek s200)
I bought it as a proof of concept, to see if I could record mountain bike tracks and for car navigation - I too bought a copy of TomTom6.
Mine too has a lag in terms of position, and also in terms of refresh (I can be coming off a roundabout, and the GPS display is still on the roundabout).
My plan is to buy a sirf III GPS, i'd prefer to borrow one for a couple of days, but I don't have that option...
I think a sirf III receiver will resolve your problems (& mine)
Hi Paul!
Tnx for your answer.
As I mentioned with other gps (sirf III) it worked like charm.
I borrowed my friends gps last weekend just to double chek it once more.
And YES, it worked superb!
So yes, I think too sirf III gps will solve my/your problem.
This is mai I recived from Skytraq ([email protected]):
This the first occurrance we heard regarding slow response of BT-GPS using our chipset.
When the receiver seem slow while turning, is the environment much blocked having bad visibility of the sky? Or is it fair sky condition?
When doing a side-by-side comparison of SiRFstarIII and our GPS receiver, we see similar lag between the actual position and the displayed when driving with both receivers. This is due to reason that : GPS receiver takes a snapshop measurement of your actual position, do some calculation to get the lat/lon position (about 400 msec), sends it out through UART and Bluetooth interface using 38400 baud (also couple hundred millisecond), and the map takes a little time to decode and display dependent on CPU speed in Qtek s200. Thus there may be 1sec ~ 1.5sec lag between the position shown and your actual position. When driving fast, such lag will be more significant.
Best Regards,
i was using a bluetooth gps receiver i bought cheap on ebay, 1 of the older chipsets, but that wasn't good, anyway that went kaput & boght a holux 1 with sirf iii chip & all is good
so yeah maybe it is just the chipset of the gps & u noticed it your self
Interesting reply from the manufacturer, though... is he just trying to confuse us with technical talk? It seems the Sirf III has a faster reaction.
I've tried all sorts of tweaks (upping the baud rate for example), and still have that lag.
Later today I'll try with overclocking (just installed BatteryStatus ) and see if that reduces the lag.
However, our experience so far indicates the Sirf III chipset is simply faster.
I allready tried with overclocking!
Unfortunatly - that is not helping.
Still same lag!
I think I'm gonna sell my Prophet and bt gps and buy HTC TC instead buying a new gps device.
Have read some fine critics about gps in TC.
The only problem is that TC is not aviliable yet in Sweden
