I read in several forums that the new mini sdHC cards can be read only on mini sd 2.0 compliant phones.
Is that the case for the trinity?
There is a dll on the device called sdhc_....dll
It look likes there is support voor sdhc.
I don't have a sdhc card. I can't confirm it is working.
I have a 4GB Mini SDHC Card by Transcend (www.transcend.de). Until now I don't get it to work. I bought a HAMA 1000&1 Card-Reader, but it is not able to format the Card. So I brought it back to the store. There I could format the Card with a new digital camera by panasonic. The 4 GB MiniSDHC worked well in that camera. Back in my Trinity P3600 nothing happens. I tried Pocket Mechanic and SK Tools and Resco, but the Card is not visible. In the Registry I found SDHC mentioned. But it doesn't work. Any ideas?

Uh oh, I just ordered one in the US for $66. from newegg.com, which is a good price, but only if it works! The 4gb mini SD from Moby Memory is generic with no label. I wonder if it is really SDHC???? I am fairly confident though that the Trinity will support the SDHC 4gb mini SD soon through ROM upgrade, if it doesn't already. It has entries for them in the registry already. Otherwise I guess I'll have to get the other card .
Confirming...Transcend 4 GB miniSDHC not recognized in Trinity yet.

I purchased a 4 GB Transcend miniSDHC card, upon reading & then seeing that some SDHC parameters were in Trinity registry. However, the card is NOT recognized yet by my new Trinity.
After trying various registry changes in the SDHC area, I still could not make it read the card. I did succeed in making a ver 1 miniSD card unreadable with those SDHC reg changes though, which means maybe we're on the right track. This also tells me that most likely, a compatible device will work for either miniSD or miniSDHC, but not both at the same time. Maybe a registry wizard here will find a way to make Trinity see the miniSDHC cards.
HTC says officially that Trinity with WM5 can accept up to 12 GB miniSD, without mentioning miniSDHC. It seems reasonable HTC may enable SDHC & GPS in the future. However, keep in mind, HTC has not even fixed BT stereo in the Trinity ROM, so we continue to wait & hope.
In the world of miniSD cards, there is ver 1 miniSD standard. (Sandisk is original inventor of flash memory & helps develop International standards) The max miniSD ver 1 standard is actually 2 GB officially.
There are UNOFFICIAL 4 GB miniSD cards, based on ver 1 standard, but NOT accepted as ver 1 standard produced cards, that exist & carry 4 GB miniSD working formatted memory. There are also FALSE 4 GB miniSD cards, that have been re-stamped as 4 GB, but orginally were 2 GB miniSD. Then, they were reformatted for 4 GB, but that process corrupts the memory. Depending on the device, the false miniSD cards either give incorrect readings or corrupt when used with a read-write process. Some apparently work a short time but then corrupt after normal repeated read-write device process use.
The new miniSD ver 2 standard is called miniSDHC. These will be capable of memory 4 GB up to 32 GB. The first miniSDHC & SDHC cards are just now being made available. (coming 2007) Ver 2 miniSDHC is NOT backwards compatible with ver 1 miniSD devices, except in some rare cases where a device firmware upgrade may apply. The 4 GB miniSDHC ver 2 standard, is the only official real 4 GB miniSD card & most current devices can't use it.
The 4 GB miniSD cards sold at Mobymemory (UK) & ebay are either the UNOFFICIAL 4 GB miniSDs or FALSE 4 GB miniSDs mentioned above. One member here claims that a 4 GB miniSD from Moby works in a Trinity, but you can be assured, it's not a real 4 GB miniSDHC ver 2 standard card.

Read the above posts about compatibility. If you have the Transcend 4 GB miniSDHC, that card will NOT work in the Trinity. There is NO confirmation from HTC that a miniSDHC (ver.2.0) will work with a firmware upgrade in the future. Even though the miniSDHC fits in the Trinity slot, it may need different slot hardware to read it. Let's hope the SD controller already there in Trinity can support a firmware upgrade.
If you look around you may be able to find a 4 GB miniSD (Industry Standard version 1.0). Most of the ones on ebay & Amazon are fake though. When I find a confirmed source for a 4 GB miniSD (ver.1.0), I'll post it here.
I have read them and I understand. I only asked because from the previous posts, it wasn't clear whether or not the Trinity can read the MiniSDHC v2.0 cards.

1. Notice that almost ALL phones on HTC site say the same thing about SD & miniSD limit. It is based on WM5 & WinCE2003 specs, which HTC phones use, a generalization.
2. IF HTC has SD controller hardware (memory slot interface) in Trinity, that can be enabled by a firmware upgrade to recognize & read SDHC, then as Matterhorn said, we should get a ROM upgrade to make this possible.(nobody knows & not confirmed by HTC, but we can
hope.)
If HTC doesn't have the SD controller that's amendable to firmware upgrade, then a new hardware build of Trinity would have to be released.
3. It's interesting that Trinity registry entries exist for SDHC, but it's still a mystery for now. Also, there are supposedly 4 GB miniSD cards (based on Industry Standard 1.0 or non-compliant) that exist, but I'm not able to confirm one that is genuine & safe to use
in Trinity yet. (if someone is, please give details)
4. Good news...bad news---
good-4 GB SDHC can use fat32, is faster than old regular ver 1.0 or 1.1 Standard----
bad-reportedly, the new SDHC cards will be 3X cost of the regular ones.
5. Compatibility
* SDHC Host Products can use both SD and SDHC Memory Cards.
* SD Host Products can use only SD Memory Card 2GB or less.
Is Trinity a SDHC host product or SD host product? THE BIG QUESTION (no SDHC logo on box)
The new SD format, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity), allows capacities in excess of 2GB (4GB to 32GB)[2]. SDHC USES THE SAME FORM FACTOR as SD, but the SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing).
6. Feeling Confused? Here's why:
The following compatibility issues between SD and SDHC cards and devices can arise:
Devices that do not specifically support SD2.0/SDHC do not recognize SDHC memory cards.
Some manufacturers have produced 4GB SD cards that do not conform to the SD2.0/SDHC, which are incompatible with existing SD devices, and are also incompatible with SDHC devices. As of late 2006, the simultaneous availability of non-standard 4GB SD and 4GB SDHC cards,
and the incompatibilities between SD and SDHC have caused a great deal of confusion among consumers looking to buy memory for various devices.
4GB SDHC cards can only work with SDHC compatible host devices. The SDHC logo is supposed to ensure compatibility.
SDHC readers and other devices are supposed to be backwards compatible with SD cards.
SDHC cards have SD Speed Class Ratings defined by the SD Association. The SD Speed Class
Ratings specify the following minimum sustained write speed for SDHC cards: Class 2: 2 MB/s, Class 4: 4 MB/s
Class 6: 6 MB/s.
The SD 2.0 (SDHC) specification is with access speed up to 20MB/sec. The maximum capacity of SD card is 2GB under SD 1.1 of Secure Digital Alliance (SDA) specification; however, by using file format of FAT32, many SD 1.1 host devices can use 4GB SD card.
SD 1.0/1.1 uses traditional "Byte Addressing" scheme which limits the maximum capacity to 4GB while SD 2.0 adopts "Sector Addressing" scheme which is the same with the technique applied by Mu-Card Alliance in 2004 to reach the maximum capacity of 2TB (2048GB). SDHC
cards can only work with SDHC compatible host devices.
7. SD and SDHC - compatibility---In summary:
The new SD format, SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity), allows capacities in excess of 2GB (4GB to 32GB). SDHC uses the same form factor as SD, but compatibility is not complete in either direction. The SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method
(sector addressing vs byte addressing), causing devices that do not specifically support SD 2.0 / SDHC to fail to recognize the memory cards. Making the issue more confusing is the fact that some manufacturers have produced SEMI-NONSTANDARD 4GB SD cards. These cards are incompatible with SD devices that don't support the larger formats, and are also incompatible with many SDHC devices, because they don't conform to the SD 2.0 spec for High Capacity memory cards. As of late 2006, the simultaneous availability of non-standards 4GB
SD and 4GB SDHC cards, and the incompatibilities between SD and SDHC have caused a great deal of confusion among consumers looking to buy memory for various devices.

You little Devil ...came up with good info.
My observation is that the 4gb mini SD cards sold by Moby Memory must be FAT32 formatted normal SD standard. Several people have reported that they work fine in the Trinity. I currently use a 4gb "SD" card in my Prophet that has worked perfectly for a year now. It is formatted as FAT 32 and I have reformatted it using Windows XP with no problems. I did buy a Transcend SDHC 4gb mini SD card for $66. in the US (pretty cheap), but I won't see it until I arrive at my holiday destination. I guess I can be sure that it won't work in my Trinity (that's waiting for me also). So unless they come up with a ROM upgrade soon that fixes this SDHC compatibility problem, I'm going to order one of those Moby mini sds. I need 4gb for all my GPS maps and music, pictures etc.
Lets compare the htc p3600 spec sheet and the htc p4350 :

work miniSDHC wizard 9100 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1963379&postcount=2
Not that I think the above is really that surprising, but I bought a 8gig SDHC card for my camera (which IS SDHC compliant) and tried the card in the Prophet and it did not work/read/attempt to format etc... it did NOTHING with it...
So for those wondering/searching NO -- it doesn't work :-(
sdhc in registry
surprisingly though there is a key in the registry under drivers named sdhc. Maybe it means something else.
Oh good. One less thing to spend my money on
The "sdhc" in Windows Mobile stands for "SDIO Host Controller". So, nope, it's not SDHC we want.
SDHC is in the registry
HKLM->Drivers->BuiltIn->SDHC
I would believe that if the SDHC.dll is updated to SD 2.0, our device would be working with the 8GB SDHC card.
Has M$ updated that driver yet?
[Treo 680 works with 8GB SDHC. When that driver (Palm OS) is copied to Treo 700p, that makes the device work with 8GB too.]
There might be two hurdles sdhc.dll (MS) and omap850_sdhc.dll (HTC/TI). So even if MS updates WM to support SDHC cards, I think the hardware driver must be updated too.
8 gb-> four 2 gb?

How about formating the card in the PC and splitting into four 2 gb partitions? Try that, may be that would work. You can also try few different media cards software to create the right partitions. just google it for the software.
Hope it works for you.
Best Regards,
Partitioning would probably not remedy SDHC issue
It's possible to partition a SDHC card into 2GBx4 or 4GBx2 but it would not change anything because the CSD (card specific data) is different on SDHC cards and the device should be able to interpret it before recognizing the partitions.
The prohet is incompatible with SDHC it can not read its CSD. The CSD is outside user accessible area and this is the device driver that reads it to understand what is the capacity, manufacturer ID and serial number of the card.
I suggest to never buy SDHC cards for prophet and use standard 4GB Transcend or Ridata cards.
Do not buy any 4GB SD card of brands not registered to sdcard.org and avoid fake Sandisk's as well.

There are now SDHC cards of 8 GB.
Universal does not support SDHC cards.
BUT... there are many adapters that transform SDHC card into a SD card.
Those are cards of SD size. You insert SDHC cards into them.
Did someone try to use 8 GB sdhc cards on Universal with such an adapter?

I read somewhere in the Qtek Manual that the MAXIMUM Storage Card size the Universal will support is 6GB. I am unsure what will happen if you squeeze an 8GB card into it. Maybe it would:
1. Not detect any card at all
or
2. Will only indicate a 6GB card, despite the fact that you plugged an 8GB one
Whatever the case, I am pretty sure that there is an OS workaround to this issue (if it really is an issue). Maybe WM6 has already addressed this limitation, you never know. Maybe all that you need to do is format the Storage Card to a FAT32 media format, instead of the default FAT16 most cards come in.
Given that SDHC cards are the same size as SD cards, how exactly would it fit into an adapter, and then into the uni?!?!?
There are mini SDHC cards which fit the 2.0 standard but with such adapter I think you'll just get a normal SDHC card..

I have a 4 GB SDHC card (DANE-ELEC) that I bought from Expansys and it works in nothing, no computers, cameras PDA or anything......... What are they supposed to work in?
And if there is and adapter that works please provide a link!!!!

This is always the problem with new technologies in which the Buyer Beware principle applies. The SDHC cards are out there, but the readers for those cards are not yet as pervasive and mainstream as the previous generation ones.
This is a critical flaw in the SDHC technological evolution. They basically produced a half-solution (for me its a half-assed solution) which should have never been implemented. Here is the half-assed solution:
- SDHC readers are backwards compatible and can read traditional SD as well as SDHC cards.
- SDHC cards ARE NOT backwards compatibe with traditional SD readers and will only wrk with SDHC readers.
It is the above problem that has got consumers at large, you included, absolutely furious for not making things clearer. So - if you are an SDHC card holder, and are desperate to use it, well .... there is no choice for you to wait for the SDHC readers to be present in the devices you wish to use SDHC cards in.

How support for Universal ?
Guys, received a review sample of a Transcend 8GB SDHC card today and it doesn't work. The Universal just won't detect a Storage Card.
The same goes for ALL other Windows Mobile devices with SD slot at this moment.
Even readers must be special SDHC ones. I have one of those and the PC can work with the card.
This is not going to help, but I have a Transcend 4GB SDHC card, and it's hopeless too, doesn't work in the Universal.

For that you'll need Transcend's NORMAL 4GB SD card. They have a regular one and a 150x (access speed) one.
I have the latter and it works great for almost a year now.
great~~~~ i like this~

Yes, TRANSCEND 4GB SD card 150x works great on my set too
Pretec 133x Cheetah 4 GB card works on my Universal, too:
http://www.dealtime.co.uk/xPF-Pretec-SHM04G
I was using it in my MDA Compact (HTC Magician) and it was working ok, too. I had to use cNET Flash format to access 4GB, though.
It would be cool if anyone could come up with a solution that would enable the Universal to read SDHC cards. I'm sure a new driver would solve this as the hardware is exactly the same.

Must reiterate this point... I have one too, and it works great, no problems at all, and fast!
Hopefully this page will answer these neverending SDHC questions... "the SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing[9]). 4GB SDHC cards can only work with SDHC compatible host devices."

As far as I can tell, SDHC requires different HARDWARE to run, think it's down to the motherboard level and maybe even the slot itself.

and it worked.. i don't actually know if there are 8 gig micro sd.. and MAN those cards are small!

I haven't seen any over 4GB yet.
Anyway, I can tell that for me, the official Dopod WM6 seems to have finally solved the problems that existed on all the previous ROM's where I have tried a Transcend 4GB miniSDHC (these do not include any other WM6).

Nope, sorry - the Wizard does NOT support SDHC cards, the hardware simply isn't compatible. There's a thread in Wizard Accessories that covers higher capacity non-SDHC cards that might work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=297324. I'd suggest you take a look at that.
