Thank You very much! 1 more thing if you don't mind..I also did a search for the NET compact framework..NETCF2.0 here and on Google having no luck.. Google search gives a lot of forums only, and Microsoft only has the exe file...37.6MB..I had this, also but cannot remember where I got it. I also had the NETCF2.0 string. Can you help me on this, too?Thanx!Cingular 81252.25.11.1
Yeah. I have that one, too. I couldn't upload it here though -- the cab was over 5MB and it still failed even after zipping it. So, you can download it here.

I get a message saying installation unsuccessful because file not intended for my device! What's up with that? Cingular 8125ROM:2.25.11.1
Huh?? I pulled it right out of the .exe file. Hmmm. . . better do some digging around to see. . .
will the gif player allow me to use animated gifs as the background for my today screen or is it just to be able to view them??

I finally found the cab file needed for my device version thru ppc geeks.com, on a website named freewarez.com. I tried uploading the cab file (2MB), but am having problems with the server here. Should this be reported? I have tried for several hours! I can't upload anything!

The player will play GIFs of different sizes dependent on what size you choose. If you have Houser's Today GIF, tap to the right of the GIF, tap confg., tap the shaded blue box, choose your picture, click ok. You can get thousands of animations at different sizes, even 240x320 at FUNFORMOBILE.COM. Everything is FREE. Your player will play any animation you download from there. Choosing a picture to save as your background, animated or not, the picture will be frozen, the player will not animate the saved picture.

I made a flashy Vista splash screen for the PPC startup. You only see it for a few seconds but I think it's a lot better than the stock one.
I have also included the original in case someone decides to try this and go back, and for comparison purposes.
To install: simply move the file named "welcomehead.96.png" into your Windows directory. You will see the splash when you soft reset!
This splash supports both portrait and landscape views.
This does not work for my Wizard.
I think it has to be 320x240. When I use your picture it shows up like a square..
Strange, it works on mine. The reason that I don't have it set to 240x320 is that (like the stock WM5 splash) the phone should know whether you're using portrait or landscape, and clip the picture accordingly.
It may have something to do with your ROM, I dunno. You can always crop it too.
I see this thread's getting a lot of views. If it doesn't work for anyone else, please let me know and I will look into it.

Works just great on my Apache/Sprint ppc-6700 (aku 2.1)
Looks great!
Works fine in my dopod 838.thanks for sharing.
Works fine with my wizard and with my hermes also from my site, thanks for sharing.

Worked great, Thanks.
It also alowed me to replace the HTC logo for my own logo by replacing the HTCABOUTLOGO.bmp file in the windows directory
Now if i could only get rid of the i-mate screen, my start up screens would all look great...
and if it that doesn't work
convert the pic into a .png file and
just rename the picture welcomehead.69
copy and paste into your Windows folder on your Wizard

That's pretty sweet, I thought I was being original too.
I like what the artist did, but I prefer not to have things say "Windows Vista," or whatever, unless I'm actually running Windows Vista. I just can't bear to lie to myself like that
edit: and thanks to everyone for their praise! I'm glad it's working out for you.
thanks for the splash screen.
i found i needed total commander to copy it over.

This works lovely on my Wizard, thanks.

Guyz,
Someone knows how can I convert a .SWF to .GIF with the same quality? I tried, but the program that I used reduced too much the flash's quality.
And other problem: it must be 240x320. The original flash has 792x650. I don't want to resize, cos all the flash, specility the HTC's icon, resize too (of course). I want to convert to .GIF and, then, cut to 240x320. On this way, the icon will be the same big size.
But first: is it possible to use a .GIF animation for a Main/Splash screen, isn't it?
Links for .SWF file (98kb). I catched from HTC TyTN's site.

Thanx for your reply...
I could probably make it happen if you linked me to the SWF. AVI is a lossy format.
Also, why is it upside down?

I really don't know... I used 'Sothink SWF to Video Converter' and, after the convertion, the .AVI is upside down... :\
Do you just want the HTC icon because it is out there already..
Ok I got the flash file. http://www.htc.com/flash/tytn_web/in_01r.swf now what do you want? Cause I can use my extractor and grab it all.
Here is just a jpg... what exactly do you want?
Click to collapse
Thanx for the icons, but what I really want, and I don't know if it is possible, is an animated .GIF with: HTC's Icon + Green bar animated below + "Loading..." flashing. I did this .GIF with 'Sothink SWF to Video Converter', but the quality was horrible.
Then, when I turn on my device, the main/subslash screen would be similar the HTC's site flash. Course, the percentual loading will not change, and the green bar either, but it could be any number (37%, for exemple) and a fixed size bar. But what I think it would be very interesting are the animated green bar and "Loading..." flashing, giving the impression that the device is controlling the animation.
I tried with Sothink SWF Quicker and Decompiler, but it didn't work for what I want. I tested with PhotoShop, but it didn't support animated .GIFs...
I really don't know how I can do this... :\
No probs...
No problem man.
Thanx a lot for your help...

.gif version?
Could you please convert these png's to .gif? Most of the ROMs I use have SPB cooked in and they want the file in .gif. I opened your png file in GIMP and converted it to .gif, but for some reason the "8,5,2,.,9" keys don't work. This happens on more than one device with more than one attempt at the conversion.

I think that's is because GIMP re-indexes the file, messing up the colours of the far right section (which are used to define the buttons).

I think you are right, but when I look at both png and gif files in GIMP the colors that define the key look to be the same. Interlace will not work. Any other idea? Does photoshop do this different?

I think (although I'm not sure) that copying the image into a new image of the same dimensions and then saving that as a GIF may work...

Check that the yellow strip at the top of the far-right image is RGB 249,248,16. If that is wrong, they are all likely to be wrong, inwhich case you've found your problem!
still no luck...
Tried to open a new file and copy the png image. Still didn't work as GIMP wanted to do the same indexing as it did when I converted from png to gif.
I have attached both the orriginal png and the gif file that I am having problems with. I even tried a copy color and bucket fill on a couple keys to see if they looked the same but were slightly off - that didn't work.
I have the gif format Files ready and for download added
I hope it works for you now

try using total commander or resco explorer to see hidden files/rom files.

Make sure you have Resco set to show all files. welcomehead.96.png is the file your looking for, on all devices I believe.
If you still can't find it, use a photo viewer, like S2V, and load the windows directory. Then you can browse through and find it visually.
you guys were right it was hidden. I just didnt see the option to show hidden files. but now it says this is a ROM file and cant be changed or deleted. is there anything I can do?
drop the new file (of the same name) in the windows dir. when it asks to overwrite, hit yes. that should work with resco. another [more complicated and dangerous] way is to unlock the extended rom.
hey it finally worked! Thanks for all the help guys. It looks great!
What did you replace it with? post the picture i want to see it, haha
sorry Ref cant get the screenshot to post from my phone, ill try to after while from my home computer. but if you wanna see it go search for [email protected]$, hes got all kindsa cool skins and images posted. He does really good work
Heres the screenshot of [email protected]$ splash screen
Hi folks! Been Browsing your pages a lot these days and I like your stuff. SO I thought I'd sign up and give something back to you: A custom startup animation for the X1. Put the file into Windows folder (overwriting the original) and there you go. Warning: You cannot do this over ActiveSync! I'm not sure if it works with the built-in file explorer, I did it with RESCO Explorer, works fine after confirmation. Make sure you have a backup copy of the original file somewhere. I'd be glad to hear some comments Tell me if you like it or not and WHY. If you don't have any idea what this is gonna do: It will change the animation right after the Sony Ericsson logo when you power it up. Sony Ericsson logo before and Windows logo after remain untouched.
EDIT: Just found out that I have to ZIP the file... Otherwise it becomes JPG. So Download, Unzip, and THEN copy.
Well I kinda made one too. Just for fun.
If the startup animation doesn't show up, download the ALLOWANIM.ZIP file, extract and merge the registry settings in your x1.

Nice idea to refer to the startup logo
And another attempt by me, this one's a little bit more exciting and I've stolen your idea about fading the logo PSD this time included.
The animation goes like:
Fade out SE logo
Show "Sony Ericsson" text with a shiny animation
Fade in white glowing "X1"
Fade out glowing "X1"
Hope you like it, haven't tested it yet on my X1.
There's been many downloads already, please post some feedback!

PS: Is anyone even liking our efforts or is this a huge waste of everyone's time? Let us know...

@ DeeChan: How come you don't like the big X1? Cuz it's X1 or because of the design?
good idea to start this thread!
here is my art, hope you'll like it
.jpg is a preview
Cool! But I would prefer it if the "Powered by Windows Mobile" etc were present all the time, and the animaiton could be more smooth (Though I'm sure you've invested quite a bit of time into this... Respect!).
i like the start up logo with the paper plane...Genius
But it doesnt let me replace the original file using the in built Phone file explore.
Wot else can i use besides resco??
to Firefall!
I'll create Art 1.1 pic tomorrow, there is too much work now.
to indy.89
try to use Total Commander. but Resco is the best
glad to see you liked my work guys. thnx a lot!
my x1 only has SEMC2904.bmp in windows folder, im using resco.
so tried to change name of SEMC1904.gif to it and says cant overwrite because its part of rom.

Search button? LOL
Sigh: neways 1904 is the animation, and part of rom but it won't do anything but play at the boot so safe to replace from rom.
The 2904 is part of the static splash screen with the big green SE logo. Replacing it won't damage anything. Safe to replace.
If you want bootscreen change, just replace welcomehead.192.png, again safe to change Have fun.
