Windows Vista splash screen - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I made a flashy Vista splash screen for the PPC startup. You only see it for a few seconds but I think it's a lot better than the stock one.
I have also included the original in case someone decides to try this and go back, and for comparison purposes.
To install: simply move the file named "welcomehead.96.png" into your Windows directory. You will see the splash when you soft reset!
This splash supports both portrait and landscape views.

This does not work for my Wizard.
I think it has to be 320x240. When I use your picture it shows up like a square..

Strange, it works on mine. The reason that I don't have it set to 240x320 is that (like the stock WM5 splash) the phone should know whether you're using portrait or landscape, and clip the picture accordingly.
It may have something to do with your ROM, I dunno. You can always crop it too.

I see this thread's getting a lot of views. If it doesn't work for anyone else, please let me know and I will look into it.

Apache/6700: Success

Works just great on my Apache/Sprint ppc-6700 (aku 2.1)
Looks great!

Works fine in my dopod 838.thanks for sharing.

Works fine with my wizard and with my hermes also from my site, thanks for sharing.

Here's mine.
I grabbed this one when I was browsing Lakeridge Forums. It works fine on qtek9100 atleast.

Worked great, Thanks.
It also alowed me to replace the HTC logo for my own logo by replacing the HTCABOUTLOGO.bmp file in the windows directory
Now if i could only get rid of the i-mate screen, my start up screens would all look great...

and if it that doesn't work
convert the pic into a .png file and
just rename the picture welcomehead.69
copy and paste into your Windows folder on your Wizard

That's pretty sweet, I thought I was being original too.
I like what the artist did, but I prefer not to have things say "Windows Vista," or whatever, unless I'm actually running Windows Vista. I just can't bear to lie to myself like that
edit: and thanks to everyone for their praise! I'm glad it's working out for you.

thanks for the splash screen.
i found i needed total commander to copy it over.

This works lovely on my Wizard, thanks.

Has ANYONE changed the Media Player 10 Skin?

Hi,
i know everyone seems to use TCPMP but i like using Windows Media Player 10, i have been trying for a very long time to change the skin to a realy nice one but i havn't found a way to do it, not even the windows site explanes how to do it, they just say download them.
If anyone managed it then could they reply with where the files are in memory and what is the name of the skin so i can try the same.
Thanks in advance and i know a few people have been looking for an anwser
I have tryed for ages to change the skin in media player but there is no way ive found.
i did notice that there is a *192.bmp file in the windows directory (windows\) that if you open looks just like the default skin. if i rename the default(portrait).skn file in the \Program files\media player\ folder then media player wont start in portrait mode so its definutly pulling the skin from there but all the different ways i put the skin files i have it just wont work, not even if i rename then the default(portrait) will it work.
Has anyone got this to work?
Well, I think a couple of Juni's skin suites have a WMP skin (Navigator certainly does). So someone must've used them, and I assume there are instructions on how to change them included with the suite.
Have a look over at the SBSH Software forum - in the "Pocketbreeze Resources" area, or at the Lakeridge Software Forum - in the "Wisbar 2.x Skins" area. I know I've seen threads about WMP skinning in one of those two forums.
Simple, I think you should just find a *.skn file and put it in the \Program Files\Windows Media Player. Then using the WMP to search for a new skin as clicking the button in WMP.
Then you will have a simple browse of your skn there, and choose them. They will be Ready for you.
Enjoy~!
Cheers
Julius
i downloaded this for wmp10; the skin transforms your player to look like an ipod. quite simple but i like it because the buttons are spaced in such a way that you don't depress 2 at a time (when using your finger). can't remember where i got it though. as my unit is connected to my car stereo; when driving the layout makes pressing the keys a lot easier as compared to the default skin.
what i did was; unzip the files and placed them in a folder i named "ipod". using file explorer; go to: my device->program files->windows media player. paste the folder. go to wmp10; menu->options->skins. give it a few seconds as it's searching for skins. the ipod skin should then appear.
the downside: when using this skin you cannot view videos. the sound will be heard but the screen of the ipod will not change. you will have to revert back to the default wmp10 player skins (the blue one). also; even if the ipdo skins is being used; switching to landscape mode will automatically change the ipod skin to the wmp10 default blue skin.
hope that helps.
cheers

Thanks very much Robson, but i have already tied that method and but media player searches for a skin for about 3 seconds and then only gives me the opion of the defaulf skin, i guess if it works with your fine then it must be an error on mine, even after a hard reset this does not work, i have also tried this method on my M2000 (WM2003se) and it doesn't work either
I hope we can solve this
I will keep trying
Hi to all,
Robson, can you let as know where did you got the i-pod archive? Let as know more ways to make that way easy. Thank you in advance.
interesting how the player doesn't recognize the new skins in the library. after waiting for 3 seconds, i take you did try to press on the left or right directional buttons (to go to the next skin option). oh well, sorry to hear that. i'm attaching a snapshot of the website i got the ipod skin from. as you can see there are other wmp skins to choose from. as i mentioned; i opted for the ipod skin because the spacing of the buttons is far enough to allow me to use my finger when i want to pause, stop or skip tracks. the website is
http://browse.deviantart.com/skins/media/wmp/wmpppc/
FYI; do NOT use this skin:
http://www.freewareppc.com/misc/upodsilverwindowsmediaplayerskin.shtml
buddy of mine complained that it caused his ppc to hang thus resulting in a hard reset. go for the first link above 8)
hope that helps
Thanks a lot for the site.
it seems that these skins works for the wizard only, because when i saved them on my kjam they worked just fine, but on my jasjar it didn't recognize them at all, it gave me only the default skin, even if i innitiate it portrait or landscape.
thanks for the post though, i'm happy with them on my kjam now.
cheers.
Robson,
thanks for your replys, yes i did try and click left and right but they are both greyed out, i guess these are only for the wizard then, NONEED, have you actualy managed to get the ipod skin to appear on your jasjar? if you could send a screen shot just so that i know that im not wasting my time when i try to get this working
Thanks for your time
Hi, im just trying to keep this post alive because im sure alot of you would also like to have this option, i still havnt found a solution, in the registry it does show that you can change the skin to another one but when i do WMP10 just hangs.
There MUST be a way, im going to take the ultimute useless route to try and sort this out now, im going to call..........wait for it..........Orange Tech department!!!!!!, i am sure they wont even have a clue what im talking about but its the last route left to me
Orange Tech support here :lol: ;
Please try the attach file, I believe you'll find that it works. The problem is that the VGA screen of the Universal is 4 times as big as the screen on a normal Pocket PC so every thing needs to be doubled. This will not of course work on a normal QVGA PocketPC.
Have a nice day, and thanks for using Orange Tech support....
THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!!!!
I have been to countless sites/forums/tech site to try and sort this out, i have to take my hat off to you and thank you yet again, you are a STAR!!, as you can tell-im exited, the skin is perfect!

i'd like to get the skin i got with MS Voice Command to work... so - i need to double every number in the skn file, then double the size of the images..... right?
(btw, i've not got the OzVGA hack changing my resolution - does that make a difference?)

poo.... guess not. :-(
after several attempts, i've got nowhere with this.... i guessed that the triplets of comma-separated numbers were probably colours rather than size/coordinates, so left them alone. but still, nada

Isn't screen-capture in your programs folder? It is in mine on the last imate rom. I'm sure it was there on other roms but never used it till last night.
Saves in /my documents/capture/ folder.
there isn't such file in my universal....

you can control your whole pda on your desktop pc, and you can take screen shots that way.

Don't complicate amtters Dudes, try this free application :

well, if you like the one i linked to,pm me ill send you my full version.
I have the freeware MagicSS mapped to a ctrl key combo using the awesome PQz, so it's easy to grab a screen shot anytime.

My attempts at some ActionScreen graphics

Version 2. I wanted to make it look a little less "busy" so I gave it more of a see-through effect and each button is very slightly different, fitting in with a complete screen image, if you see what I mean.
Also matched the ROM colour better.
B/W version added as an alternative
Unzip files and copy to /Windows using TotalCommander or something similar.
As usual, every button you press on your PDA is at your own risk ;-)
Hope you like them

Hey DaVince - where did you get those HTC Home icons from? They look great!
which launcher is that below the htc home plugin? I'm currently using claunch, but that one looks good.
Plugins shown in order:
1. HTC Home
2. Quick Launcher
3. Windows Mobile 6.1 Getting Started
4. Device Owner
It's the WM 6.1 ROM for the Touch Dual by tom_codon. Once officially released, I'm sure somebody will extract them and post it here.
Good Work....
Tks for sharing!!!

U the man. I copied all AS files excepts for the AS_Bkgd_1.brn file and found a very nice result. Your new graphic on top of the old one. Very nice. Tried it.
Thanks again.

also.. anyone have a better icon for Action Screen app?
The default is only that boring white square
To replace the icon
I think you have to use a Resource Editor.

I was wondering this exact thing the other day!
edit the .lnk file to have this:
48#"\Windows\HTCActionScreen.exe"?<Path of icon or DLL>,<index of that icon>
Go to http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5154243&messageID=9583160 for more details. They talk about it in the last 2 or 3 posts.
@davehutch - I love the Action Screen graphic. I'm using it and pumped!

Make sure you have Resco set to show all files. welcomehead.96.png is the file your looking for, on all devices I believe.
If you still can't find it, use a photo viewer, like S2V, and load the windows directory. Then you can browse through and find it visually.
you guys were right it was hidden. I just didnt see the option to show hidden files. but now it says this is a ROM file and cant be changed or deleted. is there anything I can do?
drop the new file (of the same name) in the windows dir. when it asks to overwrite, hit yes. that should work with resco. another [more complicated and dangerous] way is to unlock the extended rom.
hey it finally worked! Thanks for all the help guys. It looks great!
What did you replace it with? post the picture i want to see it, haha

Custom Startup Animation

Hi folks! Been Browsing your pages a lot these days and I like your stuff. SO I thought I'd sign up and give something back to you: A custom startup animation for the X1. Put the file into Windows folder (overwriting the original) and there you go. Warning: You cannot do this over ActiveSync! I'm not sure if it works with the built-in file explorer, I did it with RESCO Explorer, works fine after confirmation. Make sure you have a backup copy of the original file somewhere. I'd be glad to hear some comments Tell me if you like it or not and WHY. If you don't have any idea what this is gonna do: It will change the animation right after the Sony Ericsson logo when you power it up. Sony Ericsson logo before and Windows logo after remain untouched.
EDIT: Just found out that I have to ZIP the file... Otherwise it becomes JPG. So Download, Unzip, and THEN copy.
Well I kinda made one too. Just for fun.
If the startup animation doesn't show up, download the ALLOWANIM.ZIP file, extract and merge the registry settings in your x1.

Nice idea to refer to the startup logo
And another attempt by me, this one's a little bit more exciting and I've stolen your idea about fading the logo PSD this time included.
The animation goes like:
Fade out SE logo
Show "Sony Ericsson" text with a shiny animation
Fade in white glowing "X1"
Fade out glowing "X1"
Hope you like it, haven't tested it yet on my X1.
There's been many downloads already, please post some feedback!

@ DeeChan: How come you don't like the big X1? Cuz it's X1 or because of the design?

Cool! But I would prefer it if the "Powered by Windows Mobile" etc were present all the time, and the animaiton could be more smooth (Though I'm sure you've invested quite a bit of time into this... Respect!).
i like the start up logo with the paper plane...Genius
But it doesnt let me replace the original file using the in built Phone file explore.
Wot else can i use besides resco??

Sigh: neways 1904 is the animation, and part of rom but it won't do anything but play at the boot so safe to replace from rom.
The 2904 is part of the static splash screen with the big green SE logo. Replacing it won't damage anything. Safe to replace.
If you want bootscreen change, just replace welcomehead.192.png, again safe to change Have fun.
