PTT? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Has anyone used PTT on 8525? does anyone know if when you don't add the PTT service to ur plan and you use it pay per use.. I know it's 15 cents a minute but is it billed by seconds? or does 1 PTT count as 1 minute?

i cant answer on the Pay Per Use.. but i can say that i am using it on tytn and it works great (actually works better than regular voice calling)... and its billed by minutes just like regular voice calling.

Two sims in one handset

Has anyone tried this? I'm struggling to convince T Mob they should let me add voice minutes to my data tariff (so instead I pay 50ppm for voice calls). My best option seems to be "add 10 minutes of video calls for £2.10" or however much it is. Two or three of them, all as voice instead of video calls, would do me. Alternatively, Scancom do the Business 3000 tariff for £15/month with £200 cashback. But I suspect it'll be a royal hassle forever switching sims (and rebooting the MDA?). And, TBH, if it's a pain, I may as well just use my Orange PAYG sim in my old SPV

PTT for WM5?

Is there such a thing? Cuz i might subscribe to the PTT service with cingular.
you are in luck
cingular does have ptt service it is not surrently available on pdas but is available on lg, samsung and sonyericsson phone the service it 9.99 for one line and 19.99 for family plans it is unlimited service and works great there is a 5-10 sec delay for the initial connection but after that it is as fast if not faster then nextel. you can also convert a ptt conversation to a phone call as well as being able to see everyones status and if they are available or not.
i hope this helps you out
if you have anymore questions feel free to ask
Or you could just use the speakerphone and NOT pay cingular for having a speakerphone :? :? :?
I will never understand why PTT is popular. It's a freaking speakerphone that makes you push the button to talk. Durrrrr....
well in aust its cheaper to use that like only 1 dollar per day and you can get up to 5 people to connect and use ptt. shame it wont work on wm5 so far. thou im sure it would b easy to make a software for this.
if it was out there i would have found it by now.. i am very interested in seeing if i can get this to work.. but cant come up with anything.. will probably have to wait till the 8525 is released, its suppose to have PTT
Agile messenger's website says that the program will add ptt to a phone, but I'm still trying to figure out how they think so. I think it has to do with the messenger service and the voice messages.

i think agile messenger allows you to PTT to other users of a messenger service like yahoo, etc... not to other phones.. unless they were also using agile..
Three way and speaker would be better than PTT, but on the other hand I would like to have the function for a just in case thing.

i actually would like it better.. i hate talking on the phone, i do it for 8 hours a day at work.. i am all data most of the time anyway.. pretty much if you cant be text then i have nothing to say but in the rare event i need my phone i would rather do it over ptt so i dont feel like i am locked into a phone call
Cingular 8525 (aka HTC Hermes) comes with PTT button and a PTT application which is not ready yet in the pre-production ROMs. I guess cingular will put the app in the ExtROM, so just wait until it comes out
I need more hardware buttons on the wizard

T-mobile web'b'walk max (UK)

Hi, does anybody have this plan? I cannot get a straight answer from T-mobile. It says that you have unlimited surfing (well 'unlimited' to 10GB anyway) and voip eg skype. I cannot find out if the Skype is restricted to Skype users only (as '3' do) or if it is completely unrestricted I want to make calls to international numbers on Skype using my Skype account. Can anybody give me a straight answer?

the web`n`walk max is unrestriced from what i understood and not based on Skype account
yes, cyberjak, but do you have this account and have you dialled an international number?
You're using a data connection through Skype's client software irrespective of the number your dialing.
The data doesn't cost any extra.
You don't get charged extra for sending e-mails or MSNing to someone in another country. Why would Skype be any different?
Hi Slave1, my question is not about the charges, it is: does T-mobile block dialing through Skype the same as '3' does. Do you have the max plan?
My priceplan is slightly better that WnW Max. But I don't know anyone who lives in another country and only use Skype to Skype calls (I'm a cheap skate and get very cheap calls on my mobile).
If you have WnW Max you also have Free Hotspot access. Send OPEN via SMS to 9526 to retrieve your HotSpot username and password. If this doesn't work call 150.
'My priceplan is slightly better that WnW Max' but cheaper ?
I know there are ways to get through the Skype block but I mainly want the plan for cheap international calls and I dont have a landline in my apartment. If I pay for the max plan I want to make sure it will do what I want. I have no problem finding people telling me what the plan should do (mostly they are on commision)
I have the Web N Walk Plus (Max) with my Vario III, this is what I have come across so far...
Skpe, doesn't work for me although as I understand it this maybe a software issue with the Vario III and not T-Mobile?
International, I was asked to pay a £250 deposit to have International call roaming activated - I told them to stick it
HPDPA, Wonderful and I also use it with my laptop for browsing have no idea about max download as I don't download that much.
@ gazzacbr
Order it off the website. Do it by 5ish today and you should have it tomorrow. Try Skype if it doesn't work how you want it to, send it back (you have 7 days to request this - called a DSR return, but ONLY from the website or telephone sales).
There you go, advice and no commision
ok thanks for (free) advise, Slave1. Maybe I will just try it and see.
StellaDell, I have a HTC Kaiser which is the same as the Vario III and have no problems running Skype on the web'n'walk daily plan. The version I have is SkypeForPocketPC 2.2.037 off their site. Install it from a PC connected by ActiveSync.
I have had my t-mobile PAYG for many years and roaming was activated for free a long time ago. I assume the £250 is to stop you running off with the phone if its a new contract.

Universal on 3 free skype maybe?

Hi
I have an unlocked universal and have just bought a 3 skype phone on pay as you go.
It was 40 for the phone and 10 for credit. (car phone warehouse)
Thing is my universal is unlocked so would i be able to use the 5000 minutes free skype talk time and 10,000 skype texts with my universal ?
3 mobile seem to price quite fairly on pay as you go, although i hear they are nasty on contracts.
there is no skype out on 3 but its an interesting idea isnt it?
anyone doing this already ?
does it work ?
update
Problem number one no working skype on wm6.1 ranju's 7.6
Fring also only see's wifi - i don't quite see fring as a solution anyway since it'd be part of data plan and not free skype.
looks like i need a new rom
Try iskoot! It is apparently the client used by Skype on 3Network phones. I've tried but it seems to use data instead of free Skype minutes.

Data only - Voice calls?

I'm thinking of buying the Dell Streak with the data only contract, am i still able to make voice calls and be charged per minute, and would i be able to receive calls?
Do you mean on o2?
No idea, there's no voice pricing on their tariff blurb.maybe you should ask them?
Hi 70th
No you won't be able to make or receive calls as the number allocated doesn't connect if you ring it but you are able to send and receive texts. I know because that is the deal i took on my Streak on the plus side you do get 3GB of Data per month allowance which is much more than any of the voice and data tariffs give you.
I chose this because i really use very few minutes per month and had 8 months left on an Orange contract that i have now cancelled the Data on and use just for voice. Once this expires i am moving to PAYG for my voice minutes which will save me a lot of money from being wasted on minutes i don't need or use.
