Hi all, I thought it would be a good idea to monitor the progress of ROM Updates for devices.
I have the O2 Xda Exec and experience the following issues:
Slowness
Crashing at least once a day requiring reset
When phone goes to 'Searching' mode it gets stuck there (<- anyone elsee seeing this?)
I spoke to O2 Data Support today. They state they are aware of the first 2 of these issues, and are working to release a ROM Update. They refused to give any timeframe, but did say it was expected to be quite fast due to the growing number of users.
Anyone got any more info out of anyone as yet? It may make the difference between keeping the device or sending it back for a refund.
*** NB: Let's keep this thread just for announcements or news about ROM Updates from manufacturers. For other discussions or questions about ROMs feel free to post another thread in the main forum. That way we can just watch this thread and receive an e-mail alert when an update is posted here. Thanks! ***
Many thanks for starting the thread....
I also got the same information after someone from the O2 stores.
I wouldn`t advice anyone updating their O2 XDA Exec with other ROMs as this will invalidate your warrenty and you`ll no longer be entitled for support.
O2 are responsible to support us and the devices they sold other will need to compensate us for inferier service offered.
if I flash the rom
if I flash the rom of an O2 Exec with I-mate's,
and i have errors and flash back to O2 rom.
Will they notice?
Will I auto. lose my warranty ?
Sorry, I probably should have clarified, but let's keep this thread just for announcements or news about ROM Updates from manufacturers. For other discussions or questions about ROMs feel free to post another thread in the main forum.

Not sure but doubt it....
Reply from O2
We do provide the software updates for the Xda. The O2 Xda Exec is a newly
launched mobile phone so we do not have the software updates for this mobile
phone on our website www.my-xda.com.
We will be updating our website soon.
I also have the same problem on a Exec, when it looses service, oftern it will not go back into service until i soft reset it.
I have spoken to data support, and are waiting for a cal back, They said they was unaware of this so i have pointed them to this forum

I've done some digging and it looks to me like the Exec ROM update will appear here:

Just a beta page for now, under construction. Other interesting pages too at:

I also had a word with HTC (the original OEM) in an exchange of emails, who assured me they are currently working on a new rom with all parties involved that will improve performance, speed, memory management and video quality. These are issues they are addressing in software adding that the capabilities in hardware are there but not fully exploited by this gold release of the MS O/S WM 2005, so patches are on the way...

I've just checked www.my-xda.com/xdaexec_soft.html and it says the latest software for download is v1.13.139.
So this may seem a silly question to most people but… does this refer to the rom version (which seems the most obvious to me) or the extrom version, as my own rom versions are:
ROM Version: 1.13.48 WWE
ExtROM Version: 1.13.139 WWE
so do I have an old rom?
thanks in advance
Must be ExtROM. As it says:
"This is the software Xda Exec has been first launched with in the UK and Ireland:
V1.13.139
Only install this software if your device has become corrupted by software installations or by a ROM restore meant for a different Xda model"
Nice to see the site coming to life though.

Don't you? (Without login)
Otherwise it is an old update with the same ROM than the previous ones (1.13) but with some new cabs in extendedROM (188)
Yes, your URL is exactly what my URL leads you to :?
So, is v1.13.188 just a set of updated cab files? or does it actually have some improvements for the running of the device?
The site says the latest version "improves the O2 active UI", and also "disables error reporting" Surely these are no great improvements! I think most of has have either setup our exec in corporate mode - removing the O2 UI, and disabled error reporting. Or maybe we've even re-flashed our rom with the Qtek version, which seems a lot quicker and more stable!
Can anyone give more details of what v1.13.188 actually improves on?
Cheers

Yes, you are right. This version contains just a set of updated cab files.
ROM is the same.
Can you qualify your answer that the ROM is the same?
When I check the version numbers before, they have changed for 'CE Image' and 'Extended Image'. The only thing that doesn't is the Radio version.
What is the version number for the ROM, if it is not one of the above? I am sure the whole running of the device is much better. You also get a new battery indicator, new desktop theme, faster screen updates on changes of orientation, etc.
How do you know the ROM is unchanged?
*Update: In 'Device Information' the "ROM version" used to be 1.13.48, now it is 1.13.82! This is a new ROM!
Because the ROM (not ExtendedROM) version number is 1.13 than the others. The end of this number .188 is the version of ExtendedROM.
But maybe I missed something.
So the device as a whole runs faster with the update?
I have compared my 32-bit exec to my 16-bit xda-miniS, and the miniS runs about 4 times faster than the exec, even though the data bus is slower, and the processor (195mhz) is slower.
Can anybody confirm it it fixes the delay on wakeup? sometimes a have to wait around 10 seconds before i can use the device after i have brought it out of standby!
Cheers

TyTN goes wiki
A wiki page has been opened for the TyTN
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
Please look here before asking questions on the forum.
All users can edit this page so you can all add information thus making it a better source of information.
A bit of a old news to anyone who has half a brain.

Yes a lot of things screwed after the forum migrations. I already asked the site admins if there's a way to fix it, so they are aware of it and I hope will fix it soon.
Maybe nice to add to the WIKI: I've got me a brand new Vario II sr 642F, so far problem free, stylus feels perfect when pulling out, keybord is smooth yet firm and tidly around all corners... no problems yet... knock on wood
one question though guys that i wouldnt mind answered... Im in australia and looking at buying a TyTn but obviously HTC arent supplying them directly, so its IMATE or DOPOD, now DOPOD are saying their model is Bluetooth 2.0 and IMATE says theirs is 1.2, but arent these the same devices the JASJAM and 838Pro??
thank you.......

Heya guys,
can we get a sticky to the wiki back on the Hermes Upgrade page?

Thanx
Hi all...
I'm about to get the Dopod 838Pro, and am very grateful that this sort of a forum exists... I am very scared, i don't particularly want to stuff it up... but knowing what sorts of updates and tweaks exist is GREAT
Keep up the good work, and hopefully I will be able to contribute
Hello,
I have a french SPV M3100.
I've seen on wiki page ( http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms ) that it was missing french SPV M3100 extended rom.
I don't know if that can be of any help, but I've retrieved these files out of the SPV.
Would it be interesting for anyone to have these files uploaded to the xda ftp ?
Unfortunatly, I can't get access to the ftp (timeout), might be because, at work, I have a proxy that might block ftp access.
But tell me, I should be able to do it @ home.
Cheers from France.

There may be freeware ways of doing this but I have used this and I've just tested it on the Hermes wiki with a link depth of 2 and it worked fine. It has a trial period and a free download so nothing lost if it's not what you're looking for:

First off, Welcome to The Forum
And for you're question, I can see it here no problem. Is it just the wiki that's not loading? If you're running Firefox and have NoScript or any other "Security" tool then check that it is not blocking anything?!
Let us know of you're progress, though.

Hi Ashraf, and welcome to the forum
I don't see what this has to do with the missing wiki. You'd get a better response from the board if you put this in a new thread.
If you go back to the main HERMES thread (which is where this message is at and click on the

Samsung SCH-i760 ROM
**UPDATE 03/10/08**
I have found some useful tools to help me accomplish this, but still have some things left to find. Any help would be awesome, first I need a way to find what I can remove (useless files that take up space) and most importantly where I should to start to make this work. I'm pretty sure the forums will be closed later today, so if you could email if your able to assist me I would appreciate it!
What do you think?
Hey everybody, I've been browsing this forum numerous times in the past couple of weeks looking to customize my i760 and haven't found much on it for upgrading it's performance. It seems that not many users have this phone, so I'm thinking of creating a ROM for this device.
It will probably take me some time, being this will be my first time creating anything for a PPC.
I'm asking for some help for this:
a) From fellow i760 users to get some input on what might be the best items for the ROM.
b) Also from advanced users on the best way to approach this creation.
All help will be very much appreciated.
I'd like to have some contribution to this forum, seeing how my phone has been completely customized from developers on this site. Big Thanks to all of you out there whos software I am using! You all have done a great job, I appreciate your time and hard work for it.
What are your all's thoughts on this?
Thanks in advance.
Any question you can email me @ jtisr241 @ aim dot com.

I had the i760. I got rid of it because of the lack or roms.
And Your are right there are no roms out there, its not because people dont have it, but its something with the way Samsung makes their roms. It's not as flexible with as the HTC devices.
Thanks for the info, I still have a ton of research to do before I look into the development, I'll keep that in mind hopefully I can find a way around it.

I'm not sure what compatibility the ROM will have, another thing I'm learning.
I would love to see a rom that does not include the d-day and all the get it now and vzw branded software there under WM6.1 with the threaded MMS of 6.1 and the Palm threaded SMS. But, that is just a pipe dream, so I will settle for just a software update.
Thank you for your effort sir.

Thanks, that's what I hear, hopefully once I figure out all the odds and ends to ROM's I can better understand how this is configured.
I second the vote for a rom that does not have the "extra" garbage including that useless picsel browser thing. An end button deactivator (comes in handy to "accidentally" hang up on the wife, but most of the time it's a pain in the ass), a built-in S2U2-like app, built-in touchscreen inteface (ifonz-like I guess). Overclocking.
Overall better memory use, power use, touchscreen use, end deactivator (tried AE, it hated my i760!!)
Update: Oh you know what I'd really like to see - one touch access to contacts, then particular category. The thing I miss most from my cell phone is pressing one button which calls up MY contact list, not the thousands of contact in Outlook. So to recap press a soft key, get the personal contacts list category.
what is the good word?
yea there's def. not a ton of support for the i760; but i've heard that there will be an update to wm6.1 for it so that should satisfy alot of us owners if its true
I hope theres a 6.1 Rom!!
I hear there is and Verizon will have it for download for the i760 on there web site when they finish there part of it.

760 for High speed Internet Bluetooth connection
Hey does anyone have any luck using the 760 as a celluar modem? I am using PDANet to open the profile and I connect without issue but I can only stay connected for a very short time usually less then one minute.
I have also been all over this site and I am looking for a ROM and there does not seem to be much of anything available for this device. Has anyone had any success with the ROM or any update that would let me use this device reliably with my laptop. I am not sure if it is Verizon or a setting on the phone but it is killing me.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Todd
I just ordered a i760 so i can help.
i say no iphone interface, its not that good i dont see why people want to copy it.
Alright, it seems there won't be an update anytime soon from Verizon, so I'll try to get something accomplished here, it seems all I do is work sometimes. Anyways, I'm still messing with apps and plugins to see what I want to build here. As soon as I can figure which I want I'll post the news.
Any suggestions on what should be included?

i760 Rom Dump
@ TheChampJT
I've been watching this thread for a bit now. At the same time I have been digging deep into my i760.
I was finally able to use itsutils (from here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~itsme/projects/xda/tools.html ) to run the following commands without errors:
pdocread
pmemmap
pmemdump 0x80000000 0x02000000 rom.nb
That last one gave me a 32Mb file obviously titled "rom.nb". I was feeling all uber l33t until I realized I have no clue what to do now. I am trying to decompile the file I dumped with the perl script that Willem (aka itsme) posted on his RAPI tools site. I am trying to compile the perl script in WinXP, because that's the OS I dumped the rom.nb file with. Should I boot into linux (fedora 8 or Backtrack3beta is all I got) to run the perl script? I haven't tried much of anything with it yet because I just dumped the rom.nb file late last night. However, any advice would be much appreciated.
I think my i760 is CID unlocked, because the first time I tried to run pdocread I got an error that said "Have you CID or application unlocked your device?". When I was able to run pdocread, I assumed I had somehow CID unlocked my device. But I have no way to tell for sure whether its CID unlocked or not. Its not like there's a popup window on the i760 that says "You've CID unlocked you device!!" So that's my second question, how do I know if I CID unlocked my device?
I've been hacking away at this for a solid 12days now Well, more like a month or so. I always peek into my new toy's registry as soon as I get it and make a few changes here and there to see what happens. I've run the Windows Mobile Security Configuration Tool and set my profile's security to "off". I made some changes to the reg entries under the policies entry. I've also done the whole **33284 then set to DM then reboot and set data connection to Modem Through USB, connected my i760 and installed the drivers for the Samsung modem in that mode (they are different from the MCCI drivers and modem set up). As you can probably tell, I operate on a "try a small hack, then see what happens, repeat" basis.
So that's where I'm at right now. Probably TMI for you, or anyone else reading this, but I am trying to put out as much info/knowledge as I can.
Obviously I am willing to help get a working, easy to use, cooked rom. Let me know if you want any of the files I have pulled off my device or any of the tools or dll's that I have found on the web, or any of the print outs I got from the itsutils cmd line tools.

Alqui

Hi there:
I am new to Mobile Phone upgrading, so please be patient if some questions seem to be "lame".
I have just obtained an O2 Orbit, (Artemis), for one of my boys. It is in it's original, purchased, state; WM5, etc.
I have been informed that there is an upgrade for the Windows Mobile that will change the O/S to WM 6 or 6.1. Is this true and if so where can this be obtained? Is it an easy task to upgrade?
The next question is slightly more adventurous, I have been told that the iPhone "front end" is available for this phone. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, how can this be obtained and is this a simple transition?
Thanks in advance for anyone that can spare the time to answer these queries.
The O/S upgrades you refer to are available in software downloads called ROMs. A ROM is basically Windows along with a suite of applications that the maker of the ROM has chosen to include with it. For example, the current ROM on your Orbit contains WM 5, Windows Media Player, Internet Explorer, etc etc... But someone making their own ROM may decide not to include Windows Media Player and add a different music player instead.
So basically, go through the Artemis forums looking for threads about ROMs. the best ones are the "Touch" and "Vanilla" series of ROMs by Meschle. Sadly he has left the forums but his ROMs can still be found.
Once you have downloaded a ROM, follow the instructions that will probably come with it, or can easily be found on here. Basically it's a 2 step process. You run one file which will remove the SIM lock (you may see the term USPL associated with this). and then another which will install the new ROM.
Just remember though, this will wipe your memory in the process, so make sure you've backed up anything you had on there that you want to keep.
As for the Iphone thing, it's not a complete front end, just several apps designed to make certain functions appear like the Iphone. Although I tried this and it seemed really buggy so I wouldn't recommend
Thanks for the help

Hi Gaz:
Thanks a lot. I downloaded your recomended ROM's and I have updated the Orbit. It was just as easy as you said. My son is using the phone and finds it infinitely easier to use than his last phone. Once again; thanks for your help from me and my son.
I wonder, do you have knowledge of the Orbit 2 ROM's? I realy would like to alter my O2 Orbit 2 and install the HTC ROM's. This uses TOM TOM and I have used this fro years; I don't like the O2 supplied CoPilot.
I have asked for help on the Orbit 2 forums but I still cannot find the necessary ROM's.
Hopefully

Just got a HTC HD2 a week ago, been playing with ROMs since I got it and having a blast doing it. I was noticing that things are extremely unorgainized when trying to find the ROMs, where to download them (also having to download them off the free mirrors), what exactly changed, etc...
Was thinking of building a website, where all the cookers can upload their ROMs, provide a change log for each individual ROM, be able to display the different versions of their ROM. Provide details about their ROM (look, functionality, etc...). Then in each cookers section, people can post comments / questions for that individual ROM. I tried providing more details below of how the structure would work.
For the break down of content management I was thinking:
PHONE MODEL > COOKER / ROM > LANGUAGE > ROM VERSION > ROM DOWNLOAD
Phone Model - For now I would just be doing the HTC HD2, but if this caught on, would be up for doing more phones.
Cooker / Rom - This would be area for the cooker to show off his / her ROM, with pictures, description, anything else they want to say. This would also be the area where people can post questions / comments, that would be easily responded to by the cooker or another user.
Language - Notice that lots of cookers like to create their ROMs in different languages, this way, it is very easy to find the ROM in your language.
Rom Version - Display all the versions of that ROM in that Language
Rom Download - Change log for that specific Rom Version would be displayed and allow you to download the ROM (I would be hosting the website, so everyone would just be directly downloading off the website, no mirrors, etc...).
Like I said, it is just a idea. Let me know what you think!
i don't mean to be instantly negative, but it gets talked about every few months, and a few people even make a start(have a look through the regular hd2 section, theres at least one rom index project, possibly two, complete with little-used websites.)
problem is you need to get all the chefs on board, and most of them just don't care for the extra time and work involved.
best of luck, none the less.
I would be doing all the work. the chefs would really be uploading the roms and change log that's about it.
as i said, best of luck, it would indeed be usefull, im just passing on my experience of these type of projects.
(another point to consider is that quite a few of these roms have been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times, , at around 200meg each, can your server manage that? at a speed that people will be OK with? day in day out? you can bet that right this second as i type, there are probably a dozen downloads happening, thats a gig and a half, concurrently.... thats a lot of bandwidth)
yeah totally get what you mean. reason why I posted this to see if the cookers would even want to do this before I did all this work.
the bandwidth would be no problem, think I should just post this under windows development?
I totally agree and am willing to help!
Thanks, you have any knowledge in HTML / CSS / PHP / MySQL? Not going to start on the project, unless I can at least get a handful of cookers who are at least willing to just upload the ROMs to the server. I would be even willing to go as far as to get all the initial content up for the ROM, then hopefully the cookers would just upload new ROMs and submit a change log for that ROM version. The backend I would be creating for this website, will be very easy to use, and really would not take them much time.
But the biggest thing is getting them on board, see if any post in this thread.
great idea
I also think that having a website to organize these roms out there is a great idea. It can be very handy for new users who want to try out different alternatives with hd2. I think everyone including the experienced users would like to just go to one place for downloads and check out new updates. if you had the website done, everyone from this forum will check it out since we don't see much over here (we do have some threads about rom, but its just links to other thread, not organized enough). I will be very happy if someone like you can build a website for these roms.
Yeah, was also thinking of allowing users to subscribe to ROMs they like, so when a cooker releases a new version of their ROM, they would get a email, letting them know a new version is out!
Just to try to get the ball rolling on this, going to just ask the cookers just to upload their ROMs to my server and that is all. I will pull all the other information myself, at least for now, see how well it catches on.
There's already pretty good sites for that.. www.xda-roms.com and xdaroms.com !
xdaroms.com does not seem to bad, but they don't even have up to date roms, very cluttered website, etc... was going for most up to date rom / extremely clean / easy to use website.

Rom Download - Change log for that specific Rom Version would be displayed and allow you to download the ROM (I would be hosting the website, so everyone would just be directly downloading off the website, no mirrors, etc...).
Like I said, it is just a idea. Let me know what you think!

I think this is a great idea... kudos n all the support to you... i have been driving myself crazy trying to sift through the threads n get a sense of what's what... we should totally factor in the time line of releases to make informed decisionmaking easier..
also, speaking of, anybody knows which thread has the best(stable+complete) version of android for the tmous hd2? not that i havent searched but the results of search are quite overwhelming to an extent they act as a deterrent for me to try some rom that might brick my phone.
Now that I have the support of some of the cookers, going to go ahead start on the project, will keep everyone updated!
Sounds great ... I wish I could help but I really do not know anything about websites/html and such stuff
But just wanted to let you know that this is a good idea and such a website is definitely much needed with so many ROMs out there ...
I like the idea, and hope it works well for you! You are probably already aware, but just thought I'd point out that there are chefs out there who don't post on xda. Ark_N is one that comes to mind over at htcpedia dot com. I'm sure people know of others??

its already done my friend
Really looking forward to how this turns out...thank you for taking the time to do this.
If you like to see something change on XdaRoms.com let me know. I am also looking for help in getting the word out. HtcPedia doesn't allow you to really search through roms. A lot of chefs there repost over an old post so if you enjoyed an older rom better than the new one you can no longer find it. With XdaRoms.com I wanted the ability to have all versions of a rom available to search through. I also have the ability for Chefs to add a template to their account which you can generate a complete forum post based on a rom by just clicking a button. From there you can copy and paste the forum post and you don't have to write out the same stuff each time. The issue you will run into is mass adoption as others have pointed out. If you really want to help out and make things easier you should use what I have already created and pitch in to make it better.
Sorry to drag up an old thread
I started XDA-Roms.com a while back, because I wanted to learn PHP and also to give people an alternate to RapidShare etc. While I was fairly sucessful in learning PHP, I really do not like the code at all, and need to start again fresh, probably in ASP
I have seen a few of my ideas end up on other ROM sites, which is cool becauase we are all here for the same reason, XDA ROMs.
Unfortunatly, since I started XDA-Roms.com, my work pattern changed and I have not be able to spare the time to keep the site up to date (code or ROMs). Hopefully, I will re-write the site soon-ish and allow chefs to upload their own ROMs (the user interface is there, just not the backend upload code).
In an ideal world, I guess all the ROM sites would end up with the same ROMs, just presented to the viewers in different ways. Personally, im not looking for graphics on my site, just all the ROMs
With all this being said, if there are some ROMs people want uploading, PM me and I will upload them.
