I am having a very strange issue...
My phone keeps making click sounds and open and closes the start menu randomly without control like crazy!!!
Nothing is pressing the buttons so this can not be the case.
It stops on its own and then suddenly starts clicking and opening the start menu.
I tried to restore to the last known backup db (spb backup) but it didn't help.
Any idea if this is a hardware or software problem and how to fix it?
Many thanks,
Eldi

it's a hardware problem, you'll have to get it serviced from HTC
Try landscape mode
Seriously, it sounds like a hardware issue if you took the case off and it still doesn't work. I had the same problem with other devices and it was due to the screen protector under the case putting pressure on the screen.

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing a very weird problem, with my Trinity (actually a p3600i).
When I'm using my thumb or fingers to type on any SIP, sometimes the start button is pressed even though I'm no where near the start button!
I'm not sure if it's happened when NOT using SIP.
I've noticed that it only happens when using my thumb/fingers. If I use my nails to type the problem never happens. Same when using the stylus, no problems...
Anyone know what is going on here? It can be very annoying sometimes.
Thanks for reading!
OK I just made it happen when just in the today screen.
Doesn't just happen when using any SIP...
Happens when I'm tapping in the bottom left region of the screen in portrait mode.
you are not alone
have the same problem, occurs couple of times a day, and as you noticed when using fingers. we are not the only ones, many (really!) trininty users report the same problem. finally it may result in widely known problem related to flickering start menu button and irreactive touchscreen.
i noticed one more thing: when you disable sound for screen taps from sounds and notifications menu the erratic reactoin seems to go away, not completely, though because i still manage to cause false start menu activation by chaotic screen tapping in phone mode.
read this topic, sorry to disappoint you but imho this is our nearest future

looks like i will need to send it to them for repairs
and nothing ever returns back the same, when it goes to get repaired
This is probably a hardware problem (did a hard reset, no change). The symptoms are:
The start menu flickers on and off, pressing the start button on the keyboard stops it, but it soon starts again if I try to write something.
Sometimes the keyboard doesn't work at all, and even the soft keyboard can't erase letters at times.
It actually disappeared a for a couple of hours after me hammering the keyboard in frustration, but then it came back again.
And I think the warranty has expired, so, anything I could do? Anywhere I can get it repaired cheap? Could it be a bad keypad connection?

Could be the keyboard connector, but equally it could be the phantom screen presses on the start menu problem. Does it ever close programs for no obvious reason?
Mike
Yes. it does (usually when the start menu starts flickering on/off), and sometimes lolololol is "typed".. apparently it think it's funny.

Hi there!
I have absolutely ridiculous problem with my THD. All of a sudden screen started to act like it is half disabled. In simple words, if a touch some icon on top bar, let's say Start button, click appears on clock. Basically it is looks like touch area displaced by half an inch down. I've tried to calibrate screeen and it seems like it worked for a few minutes and then turns back. I had to hard reset the whole thing and it did not help either. All images, icons, screen items appeared correctly on screen. Bottom menu bar responses correctly though.
I did not drop the phone if it will give a clue.
Anyone knows what the hell is that and how to fix that problem? Please help.
Thank you.
Anyone? Please...
sounds like you need to re align your touch screen. you need to go to Start>Settings>System>Screen then align screen
If you cant get to this then a Hard Reset might be the only way to go
Nothing is working. Now I cannot even get past screen alignment. Looks like it can be a hardware problem.
u may have to hard reset
then after that if it still wont work then u may need a replacement
Yeah. It sound like it is. Jast called HTC support, did hard reset again and after few minutes it is back to that misalignment. Damn...
Connected to ActiveSync and have you got 'My Mobiler' running? I noticed some strange screen behaviour with that on the Device and the host PC.
try pressing both volume keys and tapping the screen at the same time(volup + voldown + tap the screen) --- it will get you to align screen mode if that doesnt work then maybe you have some problems while flashing a rom or something!

I am having the same problem, it started suddenly somedays ago. I realized that when I hard rest it works fine for some time and then slowly left side of the screen stops responding, after a while only right side react to touch so you cannot access START menu nor anything else from the whole screen, just the left corners.Any solution?
Any one else had issues with the centre windows button not working?
I'm not sure if it's hardware as in the button is actually not working or more of a software freeze. An example would be on the home screen pressing the windows button and literally nothing happens. touching start in the top left however works everytime.
A simple power on/off of the device solves the issue but its been happening a few times this week and is becoming annoying.
The more apps and tweaks I do to my phone, the more unstable it seems to get. Has anyone else noticed this? Just little things, like for example a few times my lock screen with "password" has reverted to windows classic style but then a screen off / screen on will bring it back again to the WM6.5 lock screen with slider.
Just overall slightly odd behaviour.
I may have recently installed something that the device doesn't like too much, but if so I am unsure what software it is. I'm tempted to save all patches I have, and write down the adjustments I've done and perform a hard reset, the phone definitely was not like this when I got it only 2 weeks ago.
I wonder if anyone else has had anything similar or if its just my phone?
Seems like a hard reset is required. My o/s seems very stable, the only problem I have in that regard is the odd freezing of the messaging app.
It just happened to me after reading this post :-O
another hardware failure case...good job HTC...

@dgtel2
Could you please explain how this "hardware failure" is temporarily fixed by a reset?
Another "reading failure", and simply blame HTC. Good job dgtel2.
When we reset, we need to hold the "call-off" button. That's not a good design due to excessive pressure to the edge of the "capacitive" screen. They should have introduced separate turn-off button. Over time, the buttons/screen will get affected (but for new unit, it's pretty unlikely...).
So, to reset using the red reset button, it is located underneath the "so-hard-to-open" back cover. Over time, again, will affect the capacitive screen.
But, the problem could be due to both hardware and software issue. Just send it back to the vendor. Less headache...
Yeh its definitely not a hardware fault. Its more like a freeze or slight confusion between WM6.5 and sense somewhere along the line....
I've thought of another thing which would also come under this weird behaviour category.
I noticed today whilst watching a video on the youtube app, using the up and down volume buttons on the side of the device would make the video freeze for abpproximately 1 second each time the button was pressed, it would change the volume up or down, but the bar would not appear on the screen so you have no idea what the level of volume actually is.
again soft reset solved this, but its just another on of those weird things
Back up and hard reset all the way.

Don't use excessive pressure.
Why the "" round capacitive?
just a "make-up" ...lol ... again...those "..."

...and screen can only be used with the pen? This is a problem i have.
Just switching ist off and on fixes the problem (i have not to reboot).
Seems to be a software problem.
No the screen works well its only the buttons
Absolutely no problems to report with mine???
Yes I am having this same problem as the poster described (back and menu buttons switch off)
Specifically happens after a phone call
Happens to my brothers phone as well and both phones are sourced from different suppliers
Think a software update may fix this? or should i send it back and buy another one?
Thanks
Pretty widespread problem it seems:

I tend to believe it's software-based though
