[v1.53][23-Mar-08] ShantzTodayChanger - Timed Wallpaper\THEME Cycler\App Launcher - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Guys,
I've not been getting enough time to work on ShantzTodayChanger anymore (and couple that with the irritation of having to boot into windows just to work into this). The motivation levels are simply not there. I'm trying to see if there is someone willing to take up and continue development for this, so that I can release the source code. If anyone is interested, please drop me a word at the project's home page: Shantz Today Changer Home Page

This small tool will cycle ur today background or theme after a set interval of time.
Usage:
1. Make a folder on ur device (preferably not on storage card.) and extract all the files (mainly ShantzTodayChanger.exe, TdyChangerCfg.exe, gsgetfile.dll (might not be visible to u depending on ur explorer settings) and Readme.htm) to this folder.
2. IMP: Do not rename any files.
3. Run the TdyChangerCfg.exe.
4. Set options through the dialog that opens and press apply button (Pressing the native WM OK button will discard all your changes)
5. Options:
i)Choose image type (.gif\.jpg\.png) or theme(.tsk) to be cycled.
ii)If the input files (images or themes) are not in the folder where exes are kept, then you can check the box (underneath the .gif option) and give the "FULL and ABSOLUTE" path of where the files are kept. You can either input the path thru keyboard or choose it graphically by pressing the button (...) next to it.
iii)If you want to run a file after every cycle interval, check the corresponding box and provide the "FULL and ABSOLUTE" path of the file to be run. You can either input the path thru keyboard or choose it graphically by pressing the button (...) next to it.
iv) If you want some files to be avoided during cycling, put a file mask. The program will look for this mask to appear anywhere in the name of the files and will avoid it if found. (Wildcards are not supported. Choose time option has to be checked for this to work)
v) Choose the period for which mask option has to be used. If you choose a time period and leave mask as empty, then during that time no cycling will be done. If you want to avoid some files all the time, then time period should be chosen to cover all 24 hrs of the day.
vi)enter the desired interval between cycling of images\themes.
vii)If you choose a period for the mask, another check box (Consider mask period for exe also) will be enabled. Checking this box will mean that the specified exe will be run only if an image\theme is changed during that cycle. If you dont check this, then exe will be run after every cycle even if there is no change in the image\theme.
6. When you want to stop the cycling, press "STOP Cycling" button.
Additional Notes:
1. I've tested it only on my WM6 HTC Wizard and WM5 emulator. Might work with other devices/OS's but not sure...
2. Doesnt have to be running constantly. So saves resources when not active.
3. Survives soft resets as well.
4. Even takes care of the situation if your phone is off when the time to cycle is reached. Will cycle as soon as ur phone comes back on in this situation.
Planned Updates:
i) Suggestions invited. I have a lot of updates in mind but will incorporate those only which are requested by you.
Known Issues:
i) If the mask option is selected, then in a very particular situation, the app will miss a cycle.
This can be taken care of but not in my priority list because this can be fixed only by rewriting the complete cycling code which is quite a bit. So, will fix it if I get some time from my other projects.
ii) If after maknig the configuration, you see the screen flash for a second at the right times, but the backfround doesn't change, then do this:
- Go to : Settings...today....appearance
- un-check "Use this picture as background"
- start the program using "startTodayChanger.lnk" or TdyChangerCfg (Apply button)
(Thnx to CWKJ for reporting this bug and fix, and to eric for reminding me about it)
End Note:
Like every software, this one is also bound to have bugs, please report it asap.
Though ShantzTodayChanger does not run continuously but sometimes some apps that close all processes automatically (like SPB backup) might clash in schedule with ShantzTodayChanger and close it when it starts to run. In such a case (which is quite unlikely), the app might not be able to set a notification for next cycle, so if u face this situation, then run the config again.

it may be interesting

nice release...will try it soon

Hey Shantz! thanks so much for this, unfortunatley it doesn't run on my Hermes!
And I don't know how to debug it so you can take a look at it.
Feature request: JPG or PNG support would be great. Also, a way to specify where the files reside, maybe command line? If argument is not present at command line, then default to install directory (program root)
Thanks Shantz!!
Dax.

@dax: well, I'll add a config module soon for the image paths etc.
Will see if jpg/png support is feasible enuff...
About the hermes, i'll send you a debug build and try to run that. But first of all, tell me whether you can find a registry entry "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ShantzTodayChanger" and if its there then can you tell me the objects present inside it along with their values...

Hi
Just made this. This small tool will cycle ur today background / wallpaper after a set interval of time.
Usage:
1. Make a folder on ur device (preferably not on storage card. Its just 8KB anyways) and extract the ShantzTodayChanger.exe to this folder.
2. Copy the image files that you want to set as ur today background to this folder.
[bold]IMP:The files should be gif and moreover, the size (widthxheight) of the images should be taken care of by you in advanced, otherwise they might be stretched or cropped[/bold]
3. Run the ShantzTodayChanger.exe.
4. This will create two shortcuts in ur folder. startTdyChngr.lnk and stopTdyChngr.lnk.
5. Now just run startTdyChngr.lnk. The default time gap between cycling is 600sec. You can modify the shortcut to choose ur own time (in sec).
6. When you want to stop the cycling, just run stopTdyChngr.lnk.
Additional Notes:
1. You can create your own shortcuts if you want. Basically the ShantzTodayChanger.exe works on following command line arguments (without the quotes):
i) "-g 600" - start cycling images. replace 600 by ur own time in seconds. Keep it more than 1 minute preferably.
ii) "-s" - stop cycling.
iii) "-c" - cycle immediately. DONT USE THIS OPTION. MIGHT CREATE PROBLEMS.
2. I've tested it only on my WM6 HTC Wizard and WM5 emulator. Might work with other devices/OS's but not sure...
3. It runs only when wallpaper has to be changed. So saves resources when not active.
4. Survives soft resets as well.
5. Even takes care of the situation if your phone is off when the time to cycle is reached. Will cycle as soon as ur phone comes back on in this situation.
Planned Updated:

cool,
i was actually thinking of something like this...
feature request????
how about changing the entire theme....
(what i am planning here is having different themes during different times of the day)
along with it say can you make it check the time (say instead of 600s i would like to change it at 12, 3, 6 and 9...)

whole theme changer(tsk), which will change system solors would be WROBG

@fallenCzar: Whole Theme Changer isn't on the list right now...Maybe I can work on it when I get a few other things together first..
along with it say can you make it check the time (say instead of 600s i would like to change it at 12, 3, 6 and 9...)
Click to collapse
Do you mean, you want to change it at a specific time of the day? Hmmm, I may try to include an option to specify the "cycle start time" along with the gap, which should take care of this...

not working on my o2 XDA II mini win 2003SE.it says not a valid pocket pc....

@Sathya: It works only on WM5 and WM6. I'll see if just a simple compilation for the WM2003 platform will work and let you know...
@ALL: Those who have tried it on their WM5/WM6 devices, please let me know if its working ok for you or not.

BTW, i've started working on a few updates, check in Post #1..I think I'll make two versions for this, a normal one and an extended one, so that those who want a smaller footprint can use the normal version...

Hey seem to be a nice work shantzg001, checking it out soon ...

Thnx Shailesh, did u get time to run it??

do not work on my Trinity

Shantz,
Just seen this. Many many thanks for your efforts here, most appreciated.
Not had chance to try it yet but most reports sem to be coming back that it doesn't seem to work on a Tytn/WM5 machine? What's your take on that?
Cheers
WB

Hmmm, it works perfectly on my WM6 HTC Wizard and the WM5 emulator as well...Not getting any time right now to look more..Will post a debug build tonight..But can someone please check the registry. I had said earlier also to check under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ShantzTodayChanger, to report back what all settings exist there, after you have completed all the process...

Found some problems with the code...Have removed the utility till further notice...

Found out part of the problem by inspecting a colleague's device...Its because of how some devices behave to background change if themes are installed..
Will make the change when i go back home tonight and also see if there is any other problem...

Fixed the bug...It should be ok now for all WM5/WM6 devices..

With 1.11 it now works fine!
Is it possible to make it work not only with gif files but with tsk too

Help in developing a today plugin

Hello everybody,
After searching without success a weather today plugin that meets my needs,
I decided to write a new application of my own, mainly because apart SPB Pocket weather (which shows very little information ie no moon data), no plugin allows to download data from a site of your choice.
I read all the documentation on MSND and from development forums, and I finally build the first version of the plugin, but I ran into a big problem.
Often the plugin disappear from today applet list, other times the plugin is not showed even if is active, and so on.
So, this is my help request: does anybody have a skeleton of a working today plugin? I really much appreciate some help!
Surely I will release my application on this forum, since I don't want to make money with it.
Thanks in advance!
There's a working today plugin in the sdk I think.
Also check here:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnppcgen/html/ppc_yapi.asp
There could be many reasons why your plugin is disappearing:
You're not trying to set its height to 0 or less are you? I've found that causes itself and other plugins to bugger up if you do that.
It could be disappearing from the today plugin list because it's causing a crash on being parsed by the today options dialog. ensure you've implemented any options dialog correctly, or not at all.
How are you parsing the weather data? I've got to write my own plugin to do this at some point... Are you parsing xml or hardcoded html pages?
V
First of all, thanks vijay for your reply.
As for your questions:
1) yes, I initially set vertical height to zero, then on the first WM_TODAYCUSTOM_QUERYREFRESHCACHE or when I need to resize, I set the cyp member of TODAYLISTITEM to my desired height and return TRUE. Are you sure that this could be the cause? Every sample I found uses this technic.
2) I've implemented an options dialog, but not via the specific exported function, so in the registry I set the "Options" key to zero.
3) The idea behind the weather data is: I read an XML file with certain keywords, wich is created by an external exe that reads weather data from internet and create the XML file. I have written code that reads from accuweather.com, but everyone who has some programming experience can write his own and read from his favourite forecasts site. Basically you have to read an internet page and create an XML file with my specification, then the today plugin reads and show data.
Bye!
Sounds like a good implementation.
1) is correct, that's how to set the size. I meant that if you try to fix the size to 0 at some point after first refresh, it causes it to screw up. But if you're always > 0 no problem.
2) If you've set the options registry to 0 it shouldn't be a problem. Presumably the options button is disabled in the today options settings?
3) Sounds good, looking forward to seeing it.
Hmmm. I know some of my plugins randomly used to disappear after changing the settings etc. I think it's really just some loose code somewhere, but they're hard to debug. If you get desperate you can send a copy over and I'll try to look over it, but I think if you just fill in the blanks around the today plugin in the sdk, hopefully you should have a working model.
Oh, one thing that does come to mind:

Slide 2 UnLock v1.17 (updated on 22/6/2007)

Slide 2 UnLock is a simple lock/unlock application which has the iPhone style slide unlocking. It can be used as a screensaver while you don't use your device.
Since there have been a lot of changes after v1.10, this new thread is opened for easy maintenance. The previous development thread is at here.
The original v1.0 was released from http://rychlicki.net/en/2007/04/01/174 on April 1. I only picked the SLIDE.EXE up & after copying & pasting some codes, it's now v1.17. Recent changes are:
v1.17 (22-6-2007)
1. fixed the bug of "ShowSpbWeather" when the weather source is not the default one
2. some bugs fixed
The followings only work on WM5/6 devices
3. added option "BlankOnTalk" - turn off the LCD when the phone call is talking. If you want to turn on the LCD, simply press the power button.
4. if SLIDE is already activated before a phone call is incoming, SLIDE will be hidden when it's ringing; and SLIDE will be reactivated after the call
5. no more polling jobs, all system state changes are handled by iLock now (using the SNAPI). The result will be more accurate & uses lesser power (uses lesser power also apply to WM2003 version)
6. added missed voice mail and missed MMS counts
v1.164 (17-6-2007)
1. "ShowSpbWeather" follows user's Spb Weather settings: which city is selected; C/F option
2. fixed the bug of potential hang up of Trinity
3. fine tuning on WM6 devices
4. if "Password/Pin Lock" or "Owner Information" are enabled to display at woke up, SLIDE may quit by itself
5. added an icon to iLock.exe
6. some bugs fixed
v1.16 (10-6-2007)
1. added 2 little animatons, one you may love & one may not
2. if you have Spb Weather installed, set option "ShowSpbWeather" to 1 to show the current day's weather info
3. added option "AppointmentTimeFormat"
4. "ShowAppointment" now shows current or tomorrow appointment info
5. if your device's locale setting is Chinese, the date will now show in Chinese (but the Appointment details still CANNOT show Chinese characters) and the format is fixed
6. it now works peacefully with the OS built-in "Password/Pin Lock"
7. SLIDE behaves more inert to the "Phone" app
8. some bugs fixing
Start from v1.1, INSTALLATION is necessary! If you have used any other methods to make SLIDE.EXE runs on wake up event, please UNDO it before using this version. Read "How to use" for details.
If you want to show your appreciation, you may buy me a coffee by clicking here. Of course, send me a thank you message is also welcome.
Please read the README.TXT for the details & FAQ.

FAQs
The following files are included in this release:
SLIDE.EXE - frontend locker
iLock.EXE - background job; wait for right event to invoke SLIDE; provide system info to SLIDE
GFX (folder) - contains all the necessary graphics for the locker; fully customizable
readme.txt - this readme file
history.txt - history of Slide 2 Unlock
How to use:
=========
1. A simple 1 step INSTALLATION is necessary - use the CAB file to install, pls select the right OS version.
2. After installation, there are 2 shortcuts created under \Program Files\Slide2Unlock:
iLock.lnk - start/stop ilock.exe (on the 1st run, it runs silently in the background; on the 2nd run, it closes iLock & SLIDE)
Slide2Unlock.lnk - manually start SLIDE (be sure iLock is running in the background, otherwise the Battery status will not be updated)
3. A shortcut for iLock.exe is created automatically under "\Windows\StartUp" as well.
4. Everytime you change the settings in the registry, please restart iLock.exe to reload the changes. HOW? Run the iLock the second time, it will close itself & the SLIDE. Then run it again to stay in the background.
5. To UNINSTALL, use the "Remove Programs" under Settings.
6. Installation on Storage Card is NOT supported (for the sake of stability).
7. For Smartphone users, you can unlock by pressing the D-Pad when "DpadOn" is set to 1.
iLock config (in the Registry under \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\A_C\Slide2Unlock):
===========================================
1. the Date & Time format can be customized by changing the keys DateFormat & TimeFormat:
DateFormat:
(Pls read the readme.txt for details.)
For example, to get the date displays "Wed, Aug 31 94"
set DateFormat to ddd',' MMM dd yy
TimeFormat:
(Pls read the readme.txt for details.)
For example, to get the time displays "11:29:40 PM"
set TimeFormat to hh':'mm':'ss tt
Non-english devices may still have some problems for the format of the date/time, please use the most basic date/time format like:DateFormat set to d'/'M'/'yyyyTimeFormat set to H':'mmIf you do not want to have date/time display, just leave them blank.
2. After the unlock action, SLIDE.EXE can be sent to background if:CloseApp is 0
It'll further speed up the loading time of the next execution, but it'll eat up the memory (5MB). If you want it simply exits as version 1, set:CloseApp to 13. The speed of the button can be configured by setting:Speed to n (where n is 1, the slowest to 5, the fastest)
4. If your device has a VGA screen, to have better fit font, please set:VGAfix to 1
5. Load the .bmp, .jpg or .png file you want; make sure to include the full path of the file & the files fit your screen (i.e. 240 x 320 or 320 x 240 in size)Wallpaper set to "the full path of the file that will be used at Portrait mode"WallpaperLandscape set to "the full path of the file that will be used at Landscape mode"
6. If you want to "auto start" SLIDE.EXE when the device is woke up, set:Autostart to 1 (0 to disable)
7. To turn off the LCD by SLIDE.EXE, you may specify:OffLCD to n (after n seconds idle, the screen will be off; minimum is 5 seconds; 0 to disable)
8. When the OffLCD is enabled, you may specify whether the device is suspended or remain active but with LCD turned off:BlankScreen set to 0 or 1 (0 to suspend the device; 1 to turn off the LCD only)
9. For WM5 device (or device with the capability to turn off the backlight), you may set SLIDE to start automatically when the device's backlight is turned off by:IdleStart set to 1 (0 to disable)
10. Similar to IdleStart, ACIdleStart has the same function when the device is charging:ACIdleStart set to 1 (0 to disable)
11. Similar to OffLCD, ACOffLCD has the same function when the device is charging:ACOffLCD to n (after n seconds idle, the screen will be off; minimum is 5 seconds; 0 to disable)
12. Similar to BlankScreen, ACBlankScreen has the same function when the device is charging:ACBlankScreen set to 0 to suspend the device; or 1 to turn off the LCD only
13. If you want to install SLIDE to other folders or the storage card, please update the key:Slide2UnlockPath to "the new full path"
14. To show your current or tomorrow Appointment information, set the key:ShowAppointment to 1 (0 to disable)
15. To change the format of Appointment's time, change the key: (works on WM5 or 6 only)AppointmentTimeFormat (use the same syntax as TimeFormat)
16. To enable D-Pad input, set the key:DpadOn to 1 (0 to disable)
17. If you have installed Spb Weather as well, the current day's weather can be shown by set the key:ShowSpbWeather to 1 (0 to disable)18. To turn off the LCD during a phone call, set the key: (works on WM5 or 6 only)BlankOnTalk to 1 (0 to disable)
19. The default values are added on the first run of iLock:ACBlankScreen=0
ACIdleStart=0
ACOffLCD=0
AppointmentTimeFormat=h':'mmt
Autostart=1
BlankOnTalk=0
BlankScreen=0
CloseApp=0
DateFormat=dddd', 'd MMMM
DpadOn=0
IdleStart=1
OffLCD=0
ShowAppointment=0
ShowSpbWeather=0
Slide2UnlockPath="\Program Files\Slide2Unlock"
Speed=3
TimeFormat=H':'mm
VGAfix=0
Wallpaper="\Program Files\Slide2Unlock\GFX\Res\wallpaper.bmp"
WallpaperLandscape="\Program Files\Slide2Unlock\GFX\Res\wallpaperL.bmp"Known limitations & FAQs:
=====================
1. Cannot display UNICODE (for faster loading time & uses lesser memory)
2. GSM signal strength and Operator Name will NOT be available on WM2003 devices (but can be added manually)
3. "Missed Call", "Unread SMS" & "Unread Email" notifications only work on WM5/6 devices
4. If your device has slide-out keyboard, SLIDE will quit automatically when the keyboard is slided.
5. SLIDE may run slow in Landscape mode or even the screen turns blank. No solution yet.
6. Reported not compatible devices: Japanese OS, Thai OS
7. For faster loading time, please use option "CloseApp 0", but it needs about 5MB memory.
8. If SLIDE sometimes come out unexpectedly, pls set "IdleStart" to 0 & restart iLock.
9. If "Password/Pin Lock" or "Owner Information" are enabled to display at woke up, SLIDE may quit by itself.
10. To have correct Battery Status displayed by SLIDE, iLock must be running in the background.
11. If you do not want to have SLIDE start automatically when power button is pressed, set "Autostart" to 0 & restart iLock.
12. If you want to start SLIDE with other button, map a hardware key to the shortcut - \Program Files\Slide2Unlock\Slide2Unlock.lnk.
Trouble shooting:
=============
If you find your device is hang with a blank screen or no response with any key or screen-touch, you may not need to reset it. Please follow these steps if your device has a camera button:
1. press the camera button to invoke the built-in camera program
2. press the end call button to go back to Today screen
3. use Task Manager (a third party freeware; highly recommended) to close the SLIDE.EXE
Source code:

Wao A_C! You have done such a huge improvement to the programme.. Thanks a million! Great job.
OK, before I proceed to try out this new great version, just to confirm, it's POSSIBLE to remove 'iLock' from \Window\Start up after putting it there, right? Just follow the step 6) of your instructions to use/install Slide:-
6. to UNINSTALL, run the iLock under "\Windows\StartUp" a second time to close the SLIDE.EXE & iLock.exe. Then delete all files from "\Program Files\Slide2Unlock" and delete iLock.exe from "\Windows\StartUp".
After my last 'experience' of removing iLock from Start up folder, I am a bit concern of putting it back there.
Thanks A_C. There is a problem with v1.13. In V1.1 the battery indicator worked ( turned green) when I plugin my PDA to the Charger/PC. Now in this version it's no longer working. Cheers

The latest version of iLock is "Application path" aware... just try 2 two simple installation steps...

Do you have iLock running?

Another question, will iLock execute itself upon softreset? Like you said the last round, there may not be enough time for the PPC to reboot properly esp if iLock is placed in the 'Start up' folder and 'Slide2Unlock' is set to auto-shut down within 5 sec.

Im also having the same problem. Battery indicator not working at all, whether it's plugged in or not.
Also, what's the difference between running iLock.exe and slide.exe??

That's why I've disable "OffLCD" by default. Besides, running the iLock under "Windows\StartUp" will not invoke SLIDE, iLock will only sitting there. And the recommended setting for "OffLCD" is 15 seconds.

As I said, I've rewrote the Battery Status & it's coded in iLock.exe. SLIDE will no longer actively polling the system for the Battery Status. Starting from v1.1, there is a very close workmanship between iLock & SLIDE. If you don't want to run iLock.exe, pls use the old version.

I am running the iLock.exe and the battery status still does not work. I have the app installed on my storage card. Everything works fine so far except for the battery status. It always shows the battery as being empty.
Very Nice Work.
I attempted to use previous versions on my apache and they eitehr didn't display the time correctly, wouldn't start up or would crash. This one seems to be a gem.
Many Thanks.
OK, Sorry- I've got the battery indicator working- my mistake- I've put the slide.exe in the startup folder before - Should Be Ilock.exe. Nice works and many thanks again.

Pls follow these steps for installation on Storage Card:
1. copy everything to your Storage Card's folder
2. copy iLock.exe to \Windows\StartUp (don't tell me you're not willing to spend just few kb of internal memory ), then run it.
3. edit the registry & change the key "Slide2UnlockPath" to the path specified in step 1 (must in full path)
4. run \Windows\StartUp\iLock.exe twice (i.e. to close & start again)
5. FINISH

Sorry, may I know whether it's ok to copy and paste iLock in Start up as a shortcut or must it be a duplication of the iLock programme in the Start up folder? Or there's no difference between this two?
Hi
I've tried paste 'iLock' as a short cut in Start Up folder. After changes to the Registry, I activated the 'iLock' twice but the screen background did not change. I've put the jpg file in the 'Res' folder, so I only need to change the file name, instead of the whole path. I've double check and there's nothing wrong with the new file name.
Would there be any problem if I first started off 'iLock' from the file in the 'Slide2Unlock' folder, instead of the 'Start up'? I accidentally activated iLock from the short cut I previously created on my iLauncher.
Or is this caused by the pasting of 'iLock' as short cut in the 'Start up' folder?

Just tried, the shortcut/lnk will not work. Pls don't make it too complicated - simple is beauty, right?
I really like this app, been following the thread for a while now trying the different versions, its going from strength to strength, i like it...
one small gripe tho, (really small) when can we have an icon for the ilock app? hehe something slidy and locky, would just polish it off me thinks, especially for those that have ilock as an icon on today screen.
Also, im using it on a Universal, can i replace the bitmaps with the correct res images? ie 640x480 format? and if i can is it possible you have the fish at those resolutions? Im not to really fussed if they consume a little more ram, think it would tidy it up a little more for us hi-res users.
And as another off the top of my head idea, as the registry is now used to store config, a v small config page would make life alot easier:
all in all i love it
Tried pasting iLock as application in Start up folder, but the changes to the background still doesn't take effect.
I've also tried '\Storage Card\Background.JPG' and it still didn't change.
[Edit] The path to the image was successfully changed in the Registry tho'.
I will update my post today, and maybe I will put a Chinese readme on it.
Works on My 2003 SE
Great work!! just found this App and love it
But are ther any update on GSM signal strength and Operator Name will NOT be available on WM2003 devices (but can be added manually) ?
tried the method
For WM2003/SE or non-mobile device, you may use this trick to show a fake operator name & signal:
- add this key to the registry "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\state\phone"
- add the following keys:
"Current Operator Name" (REG_SZ)
"Radio Ready State" (REG_DWORD)
"Signal Strength Raw" (REG_DWORD)
But Not working for me, Thanks

rk-Sleep: Automatic phone switch off/on based on location.

Ok, here is the (Cell Tower ID) location based Sleep Management software (earlier called phone switcher).
Saves your battery and works automatically without any manual action once configured
Application is not memory resident so it does not keep running in the background. Does not write anything to registry etc so can be uninstalled cleanly.
Application can run in one of the following modes
• Flight Mode: System automatically switches to flight mode when you are at predefined location (Say Home) based on the time you setup. So when you are at home, say from 10:00 PM to morning 6:00 AM your phone is really sleeping so no one can call your mobile. But if you are not home, then phone remains ON even at night.
• Run Command*: You can configure separate command line applications while ‘entering’ and ‘exiting’ your Sleep Location. So if you want to perform some other actions such as enabling the sounds/vibrations/forwarding etc you need to configure this feature
Run Command* Notes:
• Run command has two settings
o Entering sleep locationo Exiting sleep location.• Either browse for the command line application or copy paste the short cuts on the file and any command line parameters
• Some programs require you to ‘Wake Up’ the device to run, so if needed use that option
• ‘Wait for completion’ is only for advanced configurations. Most of the time it will hang the application. So use if you absolutely need it.
• You can test your run commands from the ‘Test’ menu.
Update history
Update 1.0.3
• Bug Fixed : If you were out of sleep location and returned to sleep location after 12 mid night(with in the sleep period) application would skip the current sleep.
Update 1.0.2
• Better user friendly UI added
• Now the application supports running an external application on command line.
Update 1.0.1
• Multiple locations on the schedule: If you want to set more than one location as you 'Sleep Location' you can do it now.
• Now if you were not at home at set time, system will keep polling based on the poll time you specify. So as soon as you reach home your phone will be switched off.
• If you turned on your phone manually after the rk-Sleep set it to flight mode, then your phone remains on till next scheduled sleep session
It is working on Hermes(WM6), and I have tested it on WM5 emulators. Will NOT work on WM2003.
Setup Instructions:
• You need to be at ‘Sleep Location’ to setup the application.
• In the ‘Locations’ tab, the current location box shows some numbers corresponding to your location.
• Click the button ‘Set as Sleep location’ to add current location as your sleep location. You can add multiple locations as sleep locations.
• On the ‘Schedules’ tab configure the ‘From’ and ‘To’ time fields. (You need to specify time in military time format)
• From the tab ‘Action’ choose if you want to use flight mode or Run Command (you need to set up your enter and exit actions)
• Finally click ‘Enabled’ and click the ‘Save’ menu
That’s all now you are set for ‘Sleep’. You can safely exit rk-Sleep.
The status tab would show you the last action attempt log
Note: This application requires Compact Framework 2.0
You need compact framework 2.0 installed inorder to run this application. The compact framework is already part of WM6, so if your device is WM6 skip this step. But most of the WM5 devices do not have this update. So you must download here and run the installation on your desktop (then active sync to update your device). Only after completing this step install the application.
If you like the application please show your support by replies and or donation on paypal
Download from here
Update 1.0.1
Multiple location on the schedule: If you want to set more than one location as you 'Sleep Location' you can do it now. On the sleep location box bring the context menu up, and choose 'Append to location' now add the new location to the list. You can add any number of sleep locations!
Now if you were not at home at set time, system will keep polling based on the poll time you specify. So as soon as you reach home your phone will be switched off.
If you turned on your phone manually after the rk-Sleep set it to flight mode, then your phone remains on till next scheduled sleep session
Hello,
With this program there would be still another interesting option which one to insert could.
It would thus not have to be possible the flight mode to activate automatically with enters a stored potition dependent on the time.
If someone works in a hospital, he needs to store only the position and every time it is in the hospital the flight mode switched on.
That one could not do also at others locates to use at those handys permitted or desired is I thinks there also of cemeteries.

Great idea!
Is it perhaps possible to tirgger an application (or better: mortscript) upon entering a given location?
(I use mortscript to change call profiles, by copying sound files to overwrite the soundfiles I assigned as ringtones for various contacts. So if I set a "work" profile, the ringtones for different people are overwritten with a soundfile that contains silence, while others are made more discrete. It would be great to be able to automate this!)
Jörg
Instead of enabling flight mode, why not just disabling sound or enabling vibrate only mode?
Thanks

Yes, it should be able to do that. Also, maybe it is better to write it this way, and have your "flight mode application" written as a seperate program to be triggered by your tower-based software. In this way, others can contribute to write any other programs (as plugins) to yours. Anyway, AFAIK, Mortscript can do most of the job and or VJ (not the one above) has some nice collection that you can paired with yours.
Next you can write some scheduling software that will run an application whenever there is a 'Busy' (e.g. meeting) in your schedule (e.g. activate vibrate only mode). Then, with your tower-based software and your scheduling software, you can have a nested tower-schedule, while others can have a bluetooth-pairing based (e.g. execute software when near a paired bt device - change mode when inside your car), then you can stack all these together that will schedule your stuff based on tower-schedule-bt pairing.. WOW... too much software engineering makes you crazy.
Very nice software, but pls if You can, make a addon to change profile based on id, that would be nice. Something like: when i go to work (cell id: XX) phone change profile to vibrate/silent, but when i go back to home phone (cell id:YY) will change profile to loud.
Thx

Yes I know that is where this software will lead to(Hopefully)
But to support multiple locations the progrma gets too complex. But I know that will be a perfect applicaton!
@VJ: I think using mortscript with the tool would defeat the purpose of the tool, because with mortscript you don't need the tool (The current tower, or BTS as I should refer to it to, is available in registry I think)
@tytnguy: kudos to you, great streak with so many useful programs.

Hi,
Great Application that seems to work perfectly. I can see myself using it to help save on battery life.. and also when I enter work where I cant have the phone on.
Don't suppose you'd share how you get the tower information? I tried a method posted on the forums but it doesn't work for me and only works when the data/voice is not connected.
I tried to implement this into an application I use as a backup to give a rough location if GPS location isnt available but never managed to read a sensible string for the towers ID.
(If you'd rather not say I understand fully)
Thanks,
sam
Great!, make a profile changer based on location also, that will be awesome

I LOVE it, actually I've been looking for something like this every since I switched from my Nokia communicator 9000
2 suggestions
1- would it be possible to "rename" locations to something more intuitive?
2- I'd like to be able to trigger an alarm on entering a location that way if u are on a train your phone can wake u up when you reach your destination
thanks

Thanks for the reply,
But right now the application just supports one location, So you are not able to do multiple locations. If you use the slot of managing only alarms its fine. But if you want to do alarm and also in some other location some other action you can not.
But i have that featrue in my list though
To do it, right now you have to set to 'Run Mode' and in the run mode specify any media file, On entering your location the media will be played.
Hi tytnguy,
found a "mini minor" bug in latest version 1.0.3...
If you just append a new location and change nothin other
the Save function don't gets active and so if you just press
OK the new location won't saved and neither the window don't
pop up asking wether you want to save or not.
So you have always to tap any other function on/off additionally
to be able to save Hope you understand this
Next step in version profiles would be great

I would like location based profiles with different schedule times,
so that you could e.g. install a "Home location" with flightmode from
11pm to 8am (like it is now) and a second profile maybe for work
with flightmode from 12am to 1pm. Or maybe a profile with 24/7 flightmode
on a certain location. Lets say you work in a hospital and while you
enter the lcation phone would turn to flightmode. If you leave phone would
switch on again.
The wifi+bluetooth+beam etc options would be also a geat thing to include
as an option with checkboxes, so one could save even more battery at night
and in sleep location would not be any electro smog.
But for now I can live very good with the program as the main function
works like it should now. One little thing: Found out, that if you reset the
phone within schedule time and phone was turned on (manually) rk-sleep
wont turn it off again. But this may be wanted as not to nag you if you
decide to manually turn on.

backlight Manager MVBklight 1.4.2

Hello, i was looking for a standalone backlight manager to use in ultimate launch ( with cycling ) and i've found this great stuff on 4pda.ru but unfortunately it's all in russian. I've manage to make it work well on my trinity but i'can't understand all the options and there's no .ini nor lang.text to edit. Some help is welcome for the translation, even if you don't translate the program i would like a russian helper that can list all the options (would be perfect with screenshots). thanks a lot for viewing perhaps helping !!!
P.S. :sorry for english, when you read my posts you know i'm french ; )
UPDATE 06.05.2008 new cab below containing the english mui.cab. Install both then go to config first line of the second tab to change language. All credits to MalVal
MVBklight 1.4.3
1. Install MVBklight.CAB.
2. To change the language: install MVBklight.MUI.CAB, go to settings the first line of the second tab.
3. To change the skin: copy a new skin to Skins folder in program folder and choose this skin in settings.
Thanks a lot it works perfectly now i can configure my cycling function. your great
Your program is really perfect MalVal, I was looking for a stuff like that for a month, really happy that the Dev himself answer me. The torch, the cycling function, the today plugin, the fact that it's multiplatform, nice work. Do you have made other progs ?
Yes. MVBalance. It dysplays remained money in your mobile on today.
But it have only russian interface, and i think it will be difficult to adjust it.
Hi MalVal,
Did you have a short tuto ? How does it works, I launch it, change langage, but did not understand how to make it works!
Thanks for your help
Universal backlight manager MVBklight.
Features:
- System WM2003, WM5/WM6, qVGA, VGA.
- Control of backlight from the today (joystick: right - increases, left - decrease, central button - the settings menu, up / down go to next plugin).
- Popup with backlight regulator (joystick: to the right/up - increases, to the left/down - decrease, closing by the central button).
- Set and get of backlight from a command line (the example, ‘ Cmd 244 ’ - set new, Cmd - returns current).
- Increase/decrease of backlight from a command line (the example, ‘ Cmd + ’ - increases, ‘ Cmd - ‘ - reduces).
- Switch backlight from max to min and back ('Cmd m').
- Cycle change of backlight through Cmd.
Cmd 2 5 7 10 on a circle changes values. If was < 2 sets 2, if < 5 sets 5, ..., if >= 10 sets 2.
Similarly with decrease, Cmd 10 7 5 2 - if was more than 10 sets 10 if > 7 sets 7, ... if <= 2 sets 10.
- Switch on of the necessary backlight at connection to an external power (only if plugin is active) and switch back to battery backlight.
- The torch mode, switch on the maximum backlight and the white fullscreen (Torch.exe in a program folder).
- Settings of colors.
- Support of skin (32-bits RGBA bmp).
- Various kinds of sliders (without skins ).
- Display of backlight value by number or in percentage.
- Possibility of manual input of dwIoControlCode codes (see DeviceIoControl in MSDN) and the registry keys which are responsible for set and get of current value of backlight (these codes and keys differ from a device to device).
Installation:
1. Install the cab in the main memory (not on storage)
2. Start from Start-up-> Programs-> MVBklight or from explorer \Program Files\MalVal\MVBklight\Cfg.exe, make settings.
3. In the same place, in settings switch on a plugin.
Settings:
1. At the first start in line "Settings for" there will be a name of your PDA and will be established default settings for it. If default settings does not work, we can manually adjust it.
2. In the field "Type" choose your PDA type.
Input section, branch and keys of registry in which current values of backlight are stored (Battery and power). For many PDA - HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight, ACBrightness and Brightness.
They can be looked in the registry (corresponding values vary after backlight change by a built-in regulator). In the same place it is possible to find the maximum and minimum.
3. For WM5/WM6 it is necessary to enter corresponding sexadecimal codes DeviceIoControl.
4. Specify a skin folder. There should be four 32-bit bitmas with an alpha-channel (folders should be in a plugin folder).
To find out backlight settings for each concrete device, it is necessary:
1. Find out what file with exptention dll, cpl or any is responsible for backlight on this device (means backlight adjustment through the menu Settings-> System-> Backlight or Brightness ).
Usually this file is in a windows folder and has a certain speaking name of type COMBacklight.dll (on ETEN).
As a last resort, it is necessary to investigate all files suspected on backlight control.
2. It is necessary to copy these files on PC.
3. Then we use IDAPro to disassemble it and try to find options needed.
There are some known settings in attach (my database).
PS. Sorry for my english .
Hi MalVal,
your app did sound so sweet ;-) but unfortunately is does not work on my Artemis.
The slider shows up - but it does not change the brightness no matter what I do.
A couple of observations:
it shows Arte20000 instead of Arte200 and this name is fixed
for device type it says WM2003 but it should read WM6.1 or at least WM6
most of the settings for registry are greyed out and not changable
Might be that the problems come from my Rom being modified ?
Best regards,
mst
Hi MalVal,
Same issue for as mst46. I'm using your soft with Artemis PDA and "ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.01 WM6.1 WWE ROM".
As previously mentioned, only ARTE10000 is proposed and no way to modify other fields as they are "greyed".
BUT, it seems that is it because of the english translation you quickly done. I try removing the cfg.exe.mui file you provide, and then relaunch conf, then, even if written in a langage I cannot understand (russian ?), it is possible to select another item than "ARTE10000" and then are able to edit the following fields.
I try to select WM5/WM6, then HKCU, then ControlPanel\backlight, then Brightness, then ACBrightness, but seems that it has no effect. Difficult to o further when don't know what are the files editing
Could you take a look at it ? Thanks for your support.
Same thing happens with ipaq hx2490b. The device name is correct, the OS appears as WM2003(I haveWM6.1), and other options are greyed.
If default settings does not work, you can manually setup it :
1. Set manual in field Settings for
and restsart Cfg.exe. All fields become accessible.
2. see post above.
Known codes for some HTC:
HTC Hermes, НТС Х7500:
Codes: Pwr - 0x220010, Bat - 0x220018
HTC 4350 Herald:
HTC P3300:
HTC 3400 :
Pwr – 0x8, Bat – 0x7
Registry: HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight, ACBrightness and Brightness
HTC Wizard:
0x2
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight, ACBrightness, Brightness
iPaq 3715:
Battery – 0x7, Power – 0x8
Registry the same
You can try these. If it does not help, it is necessary to analyze built-in backight manager with IDA.
Hi Malval,
I've been able to make it work with the parameters you provides for my P3300.
But there is still a problem with the translation file I belive.
I first install the Cab, then replace the cfg.exe plus the cfg.exe.mui file with the one you provide in the early post.
When running the conf, it is possbile to have it in english, but it was not possible to select something else than ARTE10000 in the second field (settings for) of the system tab. The "manual" option is not available!
In order to make it works, I remove the cfg.exe.mui file, and relaunch the conf. Then all messages come back to russian, but in the second field of system (settings for I belive it is writen in russian), I was able to select something else than ARTE10000 and I've been able to access following fields (they are no more greyed).
Once the "manual" field selected, I exit the conf, and replace the conf.exe.mui file and I've been able to see what are the fields I was modifying as the langage come back to english.
But, in the "Settings for" field, it is written "(null)", and opening the drop down box, only ARTE10000 is available.
I hope it can helps you in order to modify your code to fix this minor bug.
For those who follow the instruction I gives, and having a P3300 running "ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.01 WM6.1 WWE ROM", I set a "Maximum value" to 4 otherwise you will have a surpise of a blank screen if seting a higher values.

Hi, JBT1.
Thanks for bag.
I've upload a new one. In the same post. Check it.
I've also add mui for plagin.
In the next release i'll add all files in one cab-file and i'll update database to support artemis.
Hi Malval,
Sounds good this time. Manual is available now in the settings and today plugin menu is in english.
Thank you for this great application.
I have an issue now with the assignement of a button with your popup application. I assign it to the button 6, and it works fine except when running TomTom! If running Tomtom and hitting button 6, it call the default assignment who is the Voice speed dial! I beleive it is a Rom or Tomtom issue.
Will look forward for your next rev
Thank you
I tried it on my Kaiser.
Hanging when changing the backlight.
Working great now on my Artemis. Great tool .
Thank you MalVal !

Can someone post a screenshot of what the actual today plug in will look like? Been trying to get it to work on my kaiser but not having any luck

I need more information, what is the problem.

More screenshots in attach. I hope it enough.
please do you have more screenshots of this program?
The backlight doesn't change at all. Im on a kaiser with duttys newest 6.1 rom.
If I leave it set for kaiser it is stuck on WM2003, but changing it to manual and setting it for Wm2005/2006 doesn't help either.
I assume the problem is in one of the other settings, but I reallydon't know what to test.
Any help you can give would be appreciated, I've been looking for a program like this for awhile.

I'm hoping to get a bit of advice, I'm new to ROM cooking but after a couple days I'm nearly there. Please see the list of issues and have a look if you know the solution to any of them. Many thanks, Andrew

fix: Do manually via Settings > Screen until I find a fix.
prob: after installed you'll get a white screen saying "please wait".
fix: Hit one of the top icons and it'll go away.
note: I'm looking for a fix without enabling HTC's RunCC.
prob: clicking the battery icon doesn't do anything (it should really invoke power).
fix: access manually via Settings until I fix.
prob: screen text is default (one size too large imho). Need to find the registry key to notch it down a level.
fix: do manually via "screen"for now.
prob: the background is a gif as I can't workout how to get the compiler to use a jpg for the Default_stwater.
fix: none
issue: slight colour banding because of it.
prob: empty Tools folder on Start-Menu.
fix: delete it from /Windows/Start-Menu/Programs
issue: can't find the location to kill it so you'll need to do manually.

I'm hoping to get a bit of advice, I'm new to ROM cooking but after a couple days I'm nearly there. Please see the list of issues and have a look if you know the solution to any of them. Many thanks, Andrew

I am also a noob cook but for the tilt. Ill be happy to help you with what I can.
The screen calibration depends on the build you are using. What build are you using?
I normally just take a jpg file and rename it and copy over the old one in the sys file.
As far as the empty folder you should be able to just delete the icon and then it will not be there. I am not sure how you have your kitchen set up. If you have a custom icon package in your ext folder then you can delete it there.
Not to sure about the text size but will look into it.
1
might be something with your kitchen
in some kitchens for diamond there is option to "disable everything other than screen calibration" (exactly opp. but that might cause some issue)
3
use advanced config and in "today" options select display battery on today screen
6
in your kitchen look for a file called "initflashfiles.dat" (NOT TXT)
it will be in "OEM_Lang_xxxx" folder (might differ)
edit that file and remove entry for the tools folder
and keep that file in "read only" attributes
1. already played with this option but it's not doing anything for me "disable everything other than screen calibration" ... It did work at one point
3. I don't want it on the Today screen I only want it to run the htcpower app when it's clicked.
6. "initflashfiles.dat">> no entry called "Tools" already tried that
Why does it matter if it's read-only or not?
