Why paint metal?!

Did you notice that paint that used on the faceplate and probably at the back is very soft? It's very sensitive, in fact u can leave a mark even with your fingernail! I am very, very carefull with it, but still can notice some marks already. Not the end of the worls, but it's only 5 days! Wonder, how is going to look like in 3-4 months of usage. :shock:
Looks like that frontplate is metal, so why even bother to paint it?
Otherwise, device is very well buit, solid, without any loose parts etc.

In ur profile says that you have an XDA II anyway ,frontplate is from plastic not from metal at all it's just painted with metal :S, if your talking about the Blue angel device I know nothing about it materials but it will remain plastic as they first created the 1rst loyal xda..

The jam/compact has a metal front cover, metal battery cover and a plastic cover around the camera lens..
Why? do they do that on purpose? lol Save weight?
i think the compact is lets scratch prone then the jam (seems differen paintjob).
I was thinking of having it professionally painted black, but i think the plastic part will cause it to be not perfect.

Is the possible metal will block the signal if use it as the pastic cover on the back?
I don't believe HTC use plastic because of keep lower cost or keep lower weight. It's just a small piece of material!

From all the posts I've seen regarding this issue, it does seem that the MDA Compact has a better paint job. I can't find any scratch on mine, even though I use the case that came with it and some ppl were complaining that it scratches the phone.
(I even used a sugar cube to remove the T-Mobile logo and did not scratch the compact!)

Are you guys sure that the MDA compact is painted differently to the Imate jam?
This is probabky the final issue in my decision on which one to buy. I'm ready to place my order any minute now.

I cannot confirm that. It's just an impression. But I can confirm that rubbing the T-Mobile logo with a sugar cube did not leave a single tiny scratch. I can also confirm that I do not hae any trace of a scratch on the MDA Compact even though it's coming in and out of my standard case all the time!
There are some ppl around who had both the Compact and the JAM. Any comments from these guys?

my compact is also scratch free and i don't use a cover and i am not that careful with my phones ;o)
it is just a gues but when i compare pictures it seems to me that they are different of color etc and they scratch/chip stories are about the Jam..
if a simlock doesn't matter go for the t-mobile one.. is cheaper too.

The T-Mobile Germany ones aren't sim-locked.

I wish I could say I had no scratches....
I had a SDE (small drop event) not long after I got mine....I am just happy everything still works perfectly.......
To be honest, I think the standard case is sh.t as there is no corner protection if a SDE occurs.
I look forward to getting a quality case from pielfarma of vaja or whatever but now I have a nasty scratch. I would appreciate any advice on removing it..????

iMate Paint Job?

I've had the JAM since the 8th of December and have had no issues with the paint job. The case is a very basic job which doesnt compare well at all with those supplied with the XDA and the XDA 2 (iMate seem to have cut corners a lot with this particular unit, skipping the docking station and giving us this el-cheapo case, as well as using cheap plastics for the side panels), but I havent had any scratches from using the case. My phone is out of the case whenever I'm static, so thats quite a bit of exposure.
The problem I've had with the device's finish is that the panels dont seem to fit together very well - mine's quite creaky. Definitely doenst feel like a $700 phone...

it's at on the plastic plate edge just next to the stylus.... I think everyone's magician 's paint at that part will come off eventually if you use the stylus....

WANT TO BUY NEW VERSION O2 EXEC

Now don't just think you can sell me any O2 Exec! I already have one with a broken hinge. What I am after is a second hand one that has the updated hinge mechanisim.
I have attached a photo from another forum here that shows the new hinge from the front with the 2 unique nicks in the hinge housing.
Does anyone have one of these for $600 paypal cash?

Out of curiosity, what's new about the hinge, aside from the two nicks you mention ? How is it sturdier ?

My O2 Exec is almost a year old now and it still looks - feel - works like brand new. I have no problems with the hinge or any part of it. The hinge problem I think is a personal issue which depends on how forceful you turn it around. Even if they redesigned the hinge, if you are going to turn it greater than it can handle then it would still end up with a broken hinge.

Cingular 8525 housing availablity?

Hi I have a Cingular 8525 and as usual due to my clumsiness I have drop it twice on the cement. Everything's working fine but being a person with a mild case of obsessive compulsive behavior I am buggin......
Also if you guys are looking for a case for your Hermes you should try to avoid this style. My 8525 was securely in this case and the phone 'flew' out of it when it was knocked on the front side of the case. The phone flew out knocking the battery boor, battery, and the sim right out of the phone. Not good! Also, the case uses a magnet for the flap closure so it goes without saying it is sending my phone into periodic landscape mode whenever I remove the phone from the case.
I have tried ebay for a replacement case and unlike all my other phone nothing is available and I mean nothing. Not even one cheesy knock off is on there for this phone.
Has anyone here looked into getting an OEM housing for the 8525?
Personally I would prefer to keep the phone in a 8525 case versus changing it out for other verients.
Sorry for the long post.....I'm sick in bed with a 103 fever so I figure that I would bug u guys

I need a tytn oem case as well. I dropped and scratched mine. Irony of it is, I've had it for two months, purchased invisible skin two days before I dropped it - idn't get a chance to put it on before i dropped it!
Oh and mine was in a metal case. It rell out of that! So nothing's safe. Gotta put on invi skin!

Did you happen to adjust the hinge(simply by bending it inward slightly) before placing your Hermes inside. I have an aluminum case, and I've test dropped it, and nothing happened.
***Please not from the factory, the hinge merely "clips" over/on the other side of the aluminum housing. If you want to make it more stable you have to slightly bend the "lip" that connects to the lower portion of the housing. YMMV. I had to readjust mine once as the first time I had it way too tight, and it was very hard to get my Hermes out of the case. Now it simply closes with an authoritative click, and I know my Hermes is secure.

Anybody find a place to get the housing for an 8525 yet? There is a large (its not that large, but its visible enough to be annoying) gash on the metal bezel running along 3 of the 4 sides of the display of my 8525

im new to the forums, but my 8525 got knocked out of my hand and got pretty messed up. my "t" key has also started to lift off of the pad. i wanted to know if this has happened to anybody and if there is any replacement keyboards for sale also. can i swithc over to the tytn with the proper front keyboard? any help would be amazing.

i just bought a dummy 8525 off of ebay, Im not sure how they are made, but I am going to see if I can switch the housing

please let me know how it works, i was thinking of doing the same thing...

The dummy thing did not work, it isnt an actual housing, only the front buttons work, the rest are fake and do not move, there isnt even a real battery cover, its one piece. That was a waste of $10.99

still really desperate to get a new housing, anyone know where one is available?

I'm purchasing a used dopod 838 pro sometime this week, and was looking to get a replacement housing for it as it is fairly abused. Would something like the above posted (HTC 8525 case) work well? I notice that, that case doesnt have a powerbutton on the front of the case, will this cause a problem when I go to replace the housing?

There you go guys.. I dropped my phone before christmas, and broke the latch that holds the battery door on, and I had to use some tape for awhile. I must have ordered one of the last Cingular 8525 cases, since all they have is the HTC Hermes black cases with the front camera hole.
That shouldnt be too big of deal to you guys though looking for new cases. It took about a week and a half to get here (FL, USA) from Hong Kong at Christmas time. Very good site..

I use a case with magnetic closure..............I put the device into the case with the screen facing away from the magnet and I have never had any issue with it.

I am having the same problem sourcing the correct housing for my phone. I am from the UK and have searched high and low to find a housing for the UK equivalent the SPV M3100 (HERM100 - so the label says).
I have checked all the sites mentioned above, at cnn.cn they dont have the correct housing as the front buttons are different? and the cingular housing is 1: not a nice colour! and 2:L i dont know if this includes the mid plate as well.
Does anyone know where i can get hold of the correct housing(not silver) i dont mind the branding.

Mainly the ease of removal, I do not want to damage the screen.
This is in reference to the Cingular 8125 PDA.
I need opinions on just the Invisible Shield (ShieldZone.com) brand screen protectors. I bought one and I am having second thoughts after seeing how hard they are to take off.

Great quality and durable.
Easy to remove. I have it on my T-mobile MDA, I once took it off and it removed easily without damaging the screen, you just have to peel it off slowly. the only thing i noticed after taking it off was a little stickeness felt on the screen, but that can easily be wiped off. I put it back on after a couple weeks though because i use my fingers on it and also pens like when im in school and I dont feel like pulling out my stylus.

buy one. They are very durable and I have had one on both my 8125 and my 8525 since day one for both devices. It will come off very easily though I don't know why you would ever have to remove it, all you have to do is get something under one of the corners and peel it off. I highly recommend these to anyone as they are all but impossible to damage. See the videos they have on their site for some demonstrations.

I had one for my iPod nano before, and did the key test. Works like a charm!

I have a question to anyone using full body invisible shield on the Wizard (T-mobile/qtek design, not the 8125). How does it hold on the battery cover and rear of the phone, especially after few months use - doesn't it come off too easily? These patrs are not flat, but "engraved" with a pattern after all.

HTC 8525 Plastic Casing / Housing

Does anyone know where I can buy a new plastic casing for the Cingular 8525? The phone works great, but the outside is chipped a bit and a little beat up. I would like to replace it if possible. Everything I find when looking it up just returns cases / holsters - I'm looking to replace the actual casing the phone is in.
Alternatively, are there any good, hard cases that are not bulky and protect the screen as well? I had a metal one for the 8125 that worked well (although a bit bulky), but this phone doesn't quite fit it.

I would like to know too. I have too many scratches now and would like to clean it up. I don't want to switch phones until that Blackstone comes out!!

Hey, i was searching for Hermes Housing few weeks ago!
First thing you have to look are the different Hermes Models
HERM100, HERM200 and HERM300
The 200 has got a unique design so these Housings are not compatible to the other ones, but the 100 and 300 are nearly the same, the exclusive difference is the Front-Key-Layout.
The Key Layout does no effect to the compatibility of Housings.
As far as i know the 8525 is a HERM100 but it does not have a front camera.So if you want to put a 8525 Housing on a normal HERM100/300 you will loose your front Camera.
But inverted if you put a Hermes 100/300 Housing on a 8525 it will fit and you will get an empty front camera hole.
So if you got an 8525 you're able to buy every Hermes 100/300 Housing!

But if the pictures are true, it will only fit on 8525, because missing front camera.So the description is wrong, it will not fit for example with MDA Vario 2 (HERM300)
