was a screen protector provided within the box? or did u order that along?
S
My MDA Pro came with a screen protector in the box. Not ordered seperately.
The MDA compact I saw came with one as well
I do worry that using a screen protector will leave my screen looking as if I hadn't removed the sticky protector? As they worth getting? and do they make the display a bit fuzzy?
Cheers, Ash
I use a Brando. Quite expensive but I can't tell it's there. I wouldn't dream of touching the screen without.
I've used an exim but I can't find them on ebay anymore. They were cheap and great on the magician.
Quality is pretty much perfect, unnoticeable. Good enough for me.
But give the choice, 1% possible screen quality loss or £600 worth of PDA scratched, easy choice for me.
Note, you can use my program VJLumos on the Universal to boost screen brightness, if you must...
V
Sounds good, I'll take a look in Google for some pricing
Thanks!
I do almost everything on my Exec using the keyboard exclusively so I hardly ever touch the screen. When I do I tend to use the back of a fingernail to minimise the marks I make.
Had an XDA2 for two years with no case or protector and that survived just fine, so the fact that the Universal can be flipped closed in my pockets means there's even less risk to the screen. I'm hoping it'll be OK.
Incidentally I'm now using hardly any third party software and my Exec is fast, reliable and very easy to use without the stylus. I'm actually thinking I might not bother installing Agenda Fusion even if they release the WM5 version. Dialing a number from contacts with the built-in app couldn't be easier.
SiliconS, you're like a kindred spirit!! hehe
Agree with everything you've said there. Use stylus / back of fingernail if needs must, but otherwise it's keyboard all the way. I also agree with your comment about not needing any other PIM. I'm sure people using diary events more regularly and intensely will need something more, but for the average user there's no need.
I also have very little 3rd party software on it. Runs a dream.

Your post count is slightly higher than mine. Must be all that duplicated duplicated information.
what is the best screen protector for its price and where can you get it from for the UK?
cheers
I never worry about using my fingers (or thumbs) on my screen, although i should get a screen protector as i had one on my xda2i and it seemed to make it better for scibbiling notes with the stylus.
When I bought my EXEC, I made sure I already have the screen protector prior to actually getting the device. I try to use the keyboard in most functions as it is intended to. Only about 5% of the time that I use a separate stylus to navigate on certain applications. I don't use the built-in stylus because mine is really flushed to the holder for some reason and I don't want to scratch or loose my grip while taking it out causing my lovely EXEC to fall off my hands.
Hello,
i want to change my Ameo in a new one because there are a lot of scratches on the front body. The reason is that the keyboard slipping on the surface of the body.
If any one have the same problem please Post it here because i want to show T- Mobile that this is a failure of construction.
Mine is exactly the same, I tried to take a picture, but it wasnt comming out very well, I was quite annoyed because I tried to keep it good. Does anybody know if this happens with the black ones or is it just silver. mine isnt insured and T-Mobile wouldnt entertain me for insurance because it was 3 months old. though I have heard you can insure it online somewhere.
i've got the same kind of scratches at exactly the same positions.
but i don't think t-mobile will do anything about this
i'ts a normal sign of use
I have some scratches as well, fairly similar to yours. I'll have some pics made if I can get a hold of a good enough camera.
I have a scratch at the bottom of the screen surround. The keyboard clear top has a tiny bump on it (from where it was moulded i think) and this has scratched the case! If it had a decent leather case then it wouldnt happen!
Same here, Same scratches, same area..
Guess we need to find a decent case to carry our precious around in...
Something that has some padding between the 2 parts.
Mine doesn't have this problem. Not a single scratch at all. It still look brand new. I don't use the keyboard or the leather case though. I just carry mine "naked" with my DIY belt pouch. I just have the standard free plastic screen protector over the screen area only and not the body.
This is ironic. The keyboard is supposed to protect but does the opposite.

It definetely does protect (the screen from cracks).
And imho some scratches on the body of the ameo are much better than a cracked screen
You now, we are speaking about a 800€ all in one device? Such a failure must not happen. If you had a 800€ Notebook with the same problem you would complaine about.
This is what my U1000 looks like close to the VGA camera on the front.
There are 2 more areas where I have some damage but I can't capture it properly on camera.
This is why we should take out insurance on our most expensive phones, as i hate scratches on my phones and if you complain about it with your provider/supplier and they are not willing to replace it when its a manufacture defect then i would personally claim on my insurance QUOTE (MY PHONE IS LOST/STOLEN TO GET BACK A REPLACEMENT) Its too expensive a device for it to scratch so easily.
I have the black HTC Advantage and I have the scratches too.
I have the black Athena and barely any scratches on mine. I use the stock case. The only time I got it scratched is when I first got it because I tried to use it without the case. Mistake on my part.
If you search the forum, you can also buy a $25 solution that protects your entire Athena. It's a plastic transparent covering that protects the entire body of the device. I think I may have posted it in the past to the accessories area. Well worth the tiny investment to protect the looks of your device.
Yep, I have the Black HTC Advantage X7500 and I have no scratches on it. I also do carry naked in my pocket especially around the office to meetings. However, I do feel I need something to protect it without gaining the bulk. I am still looking for a belt clip to carry it.
Just found this product.
http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/HTCX7500.html
Read good review on PocketPCThoughts for a different product.
Has anyone tried it? It states as full body shield which includes guards for keyboard as well.
Looks Intresting.. But we all know that these type of solution are never as easy to install (Esp. as there are 8 pieces for the Athena)
as they are in the Promo vidz. The vidz also mention that the film has Adhesive on it. How would this affect the deve by:
1. Discoloring over time
2. Being able to easily remove the film, if need or if damaged.
3. Being removed from the screen, without pulling the touchscreen's
touch sensor film off.
Has anybody tried this stuff yet? I think I'll wait for more feedback before I buy.

From some of comments, it seems easy to remove from a pda.
I don't know if that comment was from someone who works for ShieldZone though.

I just ordered one. I'm having it shipped via 3 day UPS. I'll post my thoughts once I try it out. For the cost it's worth a try. They also have a lifetime replacement policy so if they get screwed up you get a free one. We'll see how it goes.

I have it on for over 4 months. Search this very forum for an extensive discussion on it. Easy to install with the water spray bottle provided. The screen protector is a bit sticky so I took it off and used a regular one.

I am thinking of getting a case to protect my Kaiser...
What do you guys think of this HTC Kaiser Body Guardz:
http://www.thepocketsolution.com/PSI-42272.html
I know it is transparent, but it is not clear if it will protect it from falls, etc...I doubt it...
/MN
weird ...
every other variations of the Kaiser ( TYTN II/8925/TILT/Vario III )is out of stock except for the "TILT" is available for ordering ...
http://www.thepocketsolution.com/PSI-42589.html
must be vendor error or NOT YET AVAILABLE ( should all be same ... except for the single camera model ) ... I would email & ask ... I think this is just website putting it up way before the device came out ... ( roughly within the last 2 weeks, if you covering all the variations coming to be reality. )
curious ... on one of the demo video ... they had the iPhone protected right over that touchscreen ... I got to thinking ...
if their measurement are top notch ... hopefully the one for the Kaiser does the covering for the screen too !!
we can skip the screen protector altogether ( its thickness replacing the screen protector's thickness ) ... LOL
those thing dries to an invisible result !! COOL stuffs ... I'll be ordering one for sure .. plus I'll get a cool case as well. ( because the guardz is mainly for nick & scratches ... not dropping.
The bodyguardz is because my Kaiser deserved the spoiling ... hahahah
this is weird indeed... I just checked a moment - it doesn't update the stock status until you get into the cart...I will shoot them an email?
what non-magnetic flip case would you recommend?
rgds, MN
I like that the back of the Kaiser is "slightly rubberized" it keeps it from slipping around like the old Hermes did. Does this cover feel the same way? I probably wouldn't go for it either way, but, if it is slippery, it takes away a nice feature IMO.
liking the look of the bodyguard thingey! is it tough/ - ie drop proof?
I put something like this on my wife's iPhone and it works great. Well worth the investment and it really cuts down on the fingerprint smudges (the iPhone is flat out impossible to keep smudge free). I used this skin and bought one of the thin ruberized cases, and my 14 month old daughter has knocked it off tables on several occassions with not a scatch or even a blip of the screen. I have to admit for all it's lack of features, that thing is TOUGH and makes a great device for my wife. I also like the peace of mind that the thing can get thrown around her purse to her hearts content right beside that massive key ring and all I have to do is peel that thing off and it will look like new.
I wonder how well it would suit the Kaiser though since it has more moving parts. On the two occasions my daughter has knocked my 8125 off the coffee table, I have cringed. No damage, but on one occasion the battery door got knocked off, thus forcing a soft reset. Even with one of these covers, I am thinking the sliding keyboard and pop off battery cover will make it more prone to injury, even when it is in a decent case.
Bottom line, I'll be making sure my Kaiser is out of reach!!
i've been watching that site for 3 weeks now waiting for them to get the skins in stock. well, my order went through without a problem
give us a feedback when u get it dude
traveling on business all week, but will follow up when i return next weekend.

As i've mentioned earlier about the iPhone howto video ...
Could you tell me how good the touch sensitive screen reponses when it have the "bodyguardz" covered ??
note: ... only certain kit(s) goes this way of "covering the whole screen" ... if it works well ... I hope the TyTN II kit do the same ...
thickness is similar to a screen protection I guess ... there's one video for the MACBOOK and it does the "covering of the mouse's touchpad" as well ... so I guess it works really well then.
YOUTUBE howto vids ... all sorts

ok guys (and any girls) i just applied the BodyGuardz to my Kaiser and took a few pics before hitting the road... I've included 10 pics in the attached zip file. they're not the best pics, but hopefully they give you some perspective on fit, look, etc. keep in mind that it takes 24 hours for the bubbles to disappear. the pics were taken about 3 hours after application so you'll see some bubbles here and there. by the way, you get 2 sets of skins and 3 screen protectors with the kit. each set includes a skin for the left and right sides, one for the top, one for the back and one for the front. the left side skin also covers the bottom of the phone. so far I'm pleased. i like the somewhat tacky-feel and now i know my phone will be protected from scratches when in my pocket. overall this is a pretty good value.
InvisibleSHIELD
Would anyone else be likely to purchase a screen and phone body protective case from ShieldZone if they have one available?
I have used these on many of my gadgets and they are the best around (IMHO)
I just emailed them to see if one is in the works and will post back with their reply when I recieve it.

I too think they make the best protection for our devices. I've used them on my previous Wizard and Hermes and loved them. The problem I see with putting them on the Kaiser/Tilt is that there's really not much real estate to cover. There's the screen (of course), but that's about it. I personally wouldn't want to cover the back because I like the grip I can get from it. The sides are "ridged", and can't be covered. And the rest of the face is just too small to cover.
But they're really good about making custom shields if you bring in your device to them and it's only like $10 more than their usual charge. But once they make a template, no more custom build fees.
I bought the invisibleshield for my 8125 many years ago. It was a big waste of money. I hated it.
i too had reservations about using a "skin" to protect my Kaiser. i just recently applied the BodyGuardz to my device and as of know, i think i'll continue to use them. this is a link to some pictures (some good, some not so good) in case anyone's interested to see how it turn out.
i had this for my wizard. I love how friendly customer service was. If for some reason, you screw up your cover, which is pretty hard to do, then you can ask them to ship you another one paying for shipping as long as you register.
Only complaint is that it's a little too thick. Didn't feel good with the stylus. But at least I was confident that my screen wasn't going to get damaged.
bloody hell i can hardly see it!
it looks so thin!
are you sure it will protect it?

yes, it's thin and it covers a significant portion of the device. durability is good at the moment...time will tell how well it protects the device.
Does anyone now if there will be any traces left when you remove the "bodyguardz"?

I am pretty sure it will unless it covers 100% of the back. I kept my protection film on the battery cover for 2 days of use, when i took it off, there was a very noticeable trace from where it was.

screen protector
you dont have a screen protector on your phone?? it shouldve came with your phone unless you got it else where. better get these
well i screwed up the one that came wit it by trying to get it perfectly on the screen, so after ripping it out over and over again i kept gettin dust on it, so i threw it away and for now i put that original one back that has the pictures on it and shows you how to tilt ur phone? u know the one that comes on it when its brand new wit "warnings" and stuff...
either way...i am about to purchase either the "Expert Shield" or the pocket solution ones and i am tryin to get some feedback on the pocket solution ones first before purchasing. as for now, i have my phone on "baby mode" and am leaving it at home
geez...no one?
Expert Shield all the way. Don't even second guess it.
Expert Shield rocks. I have used them for my Tilt and a couple of cameras. You just have be careful putting them on. It is really easy to get dust under it if your not careful. Look on eBay and you can find them for really cheap shipped from either Hong Kong or Canada. Usually around $10 - $12 shipped. They are more expensive here.

+5 to that. i'm using them now on my tilt.
they're thick, yet flexible, have yet to show any wear from the stylus, & they haven't appeared to affect the touch sensitivity either.
It's been said by someone here that the Expert Shield protectors are just as good as the Martin Fields. He ruined one of his Martin Fields and I told him to try out ES and he said it was great.
They're a lot cheaper also.

PSP Screen protector
I'm using a Hiro PSP Screen protector (cut into size) covers 99.9% of the screen almost same thickness as with martin fields, but at a fraction of the price
It also doesn't affect screen sensitivity.

I bought an Expert Shield and am VERY happpy with it. You're dead on about the dust thing and I'll add fingerprints to that list.
I did discover is that you can remove it and wash the sticky side off with warm water and a clean finger. Then pat dry lightly with lint free cloth for eye glasses. It will it go right back on just like new!!!! I did this three times in a row for fingerprints and dust that was bugging me.
Great product!!!

I'm using them, and they are ok for the money. There are better ones out there like the others are stating. But for 5 bucks, not a bad buy at all.
Also try Boxwave's ClearTouch, It's a bit pricey but man... after 2 month with this thing stick on my screen, it didn't even get a single scratch on it, hard as a rock! Also perfect fit. It's also washable and after wash it with soap and put it back on to your screen it looks like brand new... Well worth the money.
Link here.
Someone here linked them before I bought them and they are garbage. They are a pain in the ass to put on the first one I put on didnt cover enough of the screen and anything off of your fingers stays on there and its very hard to clean you have to use water. Mircofiber cloth wasnt good enough. Within two weeks it bubbled up and I had to trash the 1st one. The 2nd one that came in the pack was too big and it was also did not fit well. Oh yea
I dont recommend them.
Lifetime Shield
Invisible Shield. Thats the one.
Lifetime shield
The invisible shield does have a different feel to it, but its nothing thats a show stopper. The company is good for its work, they have already replaced one due to the lack of a camera opening for my tytn 2.
I am a pretty big perfectionist when it comes to cases. I want something that doesn't add steps to the process of using the phone, and something that is durable as well.
I've been through the hard cover cases and found that they look terrible after a few dings. I also found that on most hard cover cases there is a certain point of weakness where the frame is smaller to compensate for port access, which led my case to crack.
Anyways, I just ordered the O24550LCST1BK from CarryMobile.
Google search O24550LCST1BK and click the first link to see it.
When will I have my url restrictions lifted? I've been a registered user for a bit now...
From the pictures it's just what I was looking for. It isn't blocky or otherwise ugly. I really like the rugged appearance and the metal hook on the back for misc usage!
The only downside is that it doesn't have a way to use the keyboard (thats another model that they offer though). I use mostly touch friendly apps anyways so I won't notice it.
When it arrives I will let you know what I think!
Is this the one you meant?
http://www.carrymobile.ru/all_HTC_HTC+Kaiser_HTC+TyTn+II+Sleeve+Type+Black.html
Doesn't seem very svelte. And having to take it off to use the keyboard is a big negative for me.
The O24550LCBSPBK-4550 may be more along the lines of something you would be interested in. I'm debating changing my order for that one and just removing the front cover flap.
Thx but all these cases are a waste of time and money. Just don't throw your phone on the floor and it stays fine. It's all common sense really. If you drop it, well that's your fault isn't it. Take care of your phone and it will last for years.

I can agree with your point of not dropping it being the number 1 way to make a phone last, but in my situation I need a case for both the protection and belt clip usage. I am normally pretty good about taking care of my phone, but I've had a few run ins with people bumping into me.
I know I am perfectly capable of taking care of my phone, but it's the other 'crazy drivers' im worried about. I'd think differently if I hadnt already had to replaced most of the internal components of my phone XD
I use Seidio hard case with local branded leather pouch (vertical, with flap magnetic cover). Pretty handy. Tried not dropping the phone, it's now 3 times already. All due to my own absent mindedness.
However, the Seidio holds up well, it hasn't cracked or anything. Phone working fine still ..
I had PDAir Aluminium on my SE M600 previously, but given Kaiser's bulk & weight, I decided going lighter. Besides I read somewhere the aluminium reduces signal quality (on M600 doesn't matter, not doing any Wifi - it doesn't have one but it matters for Kaiser, both GPS and Wifi)
Its similar to the case I had by SENA for my HTC 8525/HERMES. The only difference it had a flap the covered the entire screen/keyboard and did fully protect the phone. The only problem was you had to remove the phone for the keyboard. Generally didn't use the keyboard so it was perfect. Unfortunately SENA doesn't make one for the KAISER otherwise I'd buy it. Did protect the phone fully.

did you look at the O24550LCBSPBK-4550 model? Sounds like what you describe, except you can open it up and the keyboard keys are protected by a plastic layer. I finally broke down and got this case, so I am just waiting on it to arrive from hong kong now
