Hello all,
I recently upgraded my 8525 to the new rom provided by att/cingular (actually it is provided through htc's website, I found the link through cingular) I have some questions and was wondering if anyone can help.
The rom update doesn't give you wm6, it is still 5. It does enable the push to talk feature, and rebrands the phone as att instead of cingular. It also enables "cingular video," which is a streaming video service through att/cingular.
Now with the newer rom there is a horribly loud start up sound. It sounds like an airplane is taking off! Every time I soft reset the phone it plays this loud sound, even if my phone is on silent or on flight mode. This sound was not there before I upgraded the rom. I went into the folder where the sound is stored and tried to delete it, it will not let me. When I right click on it, the delete option is grayed out! The file is just a windows media sound, it is stored under the windows folder, and is named "3G_Up." I even tried to do it through the phone explorer on active sync, still won't let me delete it.
I am wondering if anyone knows a way to delete the file or somehow disable the start up sound. I have looked at all settings and don’t see any for start up sound.
I am also wondering this: I assume flashing a cooked rom will eliminate the cingular startup sound. If I flash a cooked rom onto my phone, will I be able to use the “push to talk” and the “cingular video?” Neither of these worked with the original rom. The “cingular video” is just a bookmark, and I tried sending a link from my phone with newer rom to an 8525 with the older rom, and it would not load. On 8525's with older roms when you push the push to talk button, it says "the ptt service is not yet available on your device."
I am assuming I have to choose between a cooked rom with no cingular video and ptt, or just live with the start up sound. If anyone knows any other way, I would just be thrilled
Thanks,
Jon

I have just upgraded my XDA II to
Rom: 1.60.00WWE
Radio: 1.06.01
Ext Rom: 1.60.21
Since this update all my custome ringtones (.mid) ring at full volume when a call comes in or when i playback from the menu to select a ringtone. However the default ringtones play at the volume level set in ring volume properties.
Can anyone shed any light on this issue for me please...? :?
dunno the answer mate but....
why choose midi tones over wav or wma tones?
its like choosing old beep beep tones over polyphonics lol.
get some propper tones instead of polys lol
thanx for replying...
the midi tune i have very good and i do really want to keep it.
when i didnt get any other posts re my problem i continued to investigate. i have discovered that the problem is somewhere in the dangaard extended_rom. if i use the o2 extended_rom i dont have this problem.
the thing is i dont really want to use the o2 rom and would like to keep my xda as generic as possible, as i am not with o2.
do you know what part of the extended_rom contains the comonents for the ringer? i though it may have been the midi.sa.cab but sadly not. i dont really want to have to go through each one and doing a hard reset each time i want to try the next.
any thoughts?
try installing the o2 rom again and go into the file explorer on activesync and copy everything off the device into a folder on your pc...
install the other rom and then try each one ect... that way you wont have to keep going back and forth through the roms
sorry mate i dont ahve a clue
gaz
this is what i am doing at the moment. i want to keep as much of the qtek rom as possible and only use the o2 rom for the part that it causing for the ring tone to be stuck at max volume.
any guesses which .cab mad have the sound file? i will just try them one at a time. i will post my results for any future user with the same problem.
I'm Curious also....
Let us know what your findings are
Well i have solved the problem. the problem was the camerarc131_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
i used the o2 camera_WWE.sa.CAB instead and the problem didnt reoccur.
i hope thats the last time i have to hard reset my unit...
Every time i send a text message i get a bell and a box come up telling me my remaining credit. This is all very well but i cannot silence this bell. Even if i turn all the volume sliders onto silent and uncheck the play sounds boxes in the sounds settings.
anyone help me get rid of this ?
thanks.
malty
proud new owner of o2 xda mini s
anyone help with this ? i thought i must be able to just delete the wav it uses (notify.wav) but its in the rom and doesnt go.
It's really annoying that even with the vol sliders all the way down and the sound unchecked this sound STILL plays
anyone help ? please !!
I had the same problem with the message sent sound, it really got on my nerves! Just create a silent wav sound in Nero wave editor or a similar application and then transfer it to your wizard's windows directory to overwrite the existing one. sorted!
tried that, i created another notify.wav but cos the original is in rom it wont let me overwrite
ok following a recommendation to use total commander to do the copying, i did, and it worked.
Not sure how, as the original file is a read only file in ROM but nevertheless it worked. Windows explorer using the pc to browse/copy whilst synced wouldnt do it.
Cheers,
malty
Hey all!
So I've been scouring the forums for a while now, I truly have, and all I end up with is more questions and confusion.
I have a vario 2.
It has some annoying issues, like the x not actually closing, msn seems to refuse to stay ended, just loads itself back up all the time, windows media player always stops responding when trying to close etc. From what I've read, fairly common things. Oh and not being able to set custom sms tones.
Now I finally managed to work out that I needed some extra programs, like shell something or other? which I downloaded to the phone, not a pocketpc application was the response.
So I read, use activesync. But hey....Windows Vista doesn't have active sync. Which btw also keeps loading itself up on the bleeding phone.
Something I came accross tonight too, is that when hooked up as a usb modem it apparently doesn't charge as fast as it uses, cause it went flat on me tonight mid surf.
There's a ton of stuff that is meant to be do-able on the phone but I just can't figure out how to do it.
WM6 seems a likely move, but so many different pro's and con's, some people having issues etc, I wonder is 5 safer? Not that I would know how to install wm6 anyway.
Upgrading windows messenger, the live beta seems to have vanished, and any links I've downloaded it from don't work.
Please guys! help! Plain english cause the phone having about a million names doesn't help and the abbreviations I havna't worked out yet are just more nails in my already well sealed coffin
Thanks in advance for any and all help!
OK......wall of text
the x button was NOT designed to actually close the program, the idea is the system frees up memory when it is needed, its only recently that the x-button app (that ACTUALLY closes programs) has come about.
secondly assigning custom SMS tones only works if you have them in .wav format and save them in the windows directory.
VISTA can be configured to work with the RUUs we use on here (Rom Update Utilities), and the WMDC (windows mobile device centre) is the vista equivalent of Activesync. Activesync loads all the time on the device but it uses hardly any memory so leave it alone
WM6 may be the way to go for you because you can assign mp3s to alert tones (and not just ring tones as in WM5) however by reading your post it doesnt seem you are quite there yet (reading-wise) to upgrade confidently, your comments on sms tones and activesync show that you havent read enough as these points have been addressed MANY times.
feel free to use my WM6 upgrade guides however do read through the various threads if you have ANY questions you feel have not been answered. As always read the wiki
Hello again, thanks for your reply
Oh I have read many posts regarding sms for instance, but so many different answers.
You can't do it, go away.
You need a 3rd party program, like xxx (which I found didn't do what I needed)
You can only use .wav
Its do-able, but you need wm6
List goes on
I followed your guide to Vista, followed by flashing HardSPL to the letter, I honestly have done (yeah i'm impatient and like to get in the at the deep end)
It doesn't appear to be working however.
Bootloader originaly says:
HERM300
IPL-1.01
HERM300
SPL-1.04
I load up HardSPL and follow your instuctions, however as soon as I hit yes on my device to run the program, it instantly restarts into the Bootloader but this time it says:
HERM300
IPL-SSPL by Des
HERM300
SPL-1.09.ds
After hardspl then times out trying verify the information I do a soft restart to get it all working again.
Now if I put it back into the Bootloader, its back to its original settings?
Any ideas?
Please?
Anyone?
Echo?
your using vista correct? make sure you use the Vista guide and load the driver from a post about upgrading with vista!!! also make sure you uncheck allow USB connections in the Vista WMDC sync setting and before you do any flashing put your phone manually into bootloader. I know vista flashing is a pain at first but you will learn the biggest key is to make sure you uncheck the box in WMDC sync settings and put your phone in bootload before trying to flash
Thanks for the reply austin
Yup using Vista, and did follow the guide.
Although the guide indicates re-enabling the usb sync and leaving the phone in normal running before trying to updated HardSPL
So annoying ;(
as another thought....t-mobile phones are locked to certain settings...
this wouldn't affect it though right?
Hi, Is there anybody else with a low voice issue (during outgoing calls) with your HTC Hermes (Tytn)?
I read a post with equivalent issue with the Blue Angel.
It is very anoying because people hear me as if I'm very far away. And talking directly to the mic hole don't improve much.
bump!bump!
It is possible that your unit doesn't provide enough volume, as it is currently configured. But that's one of the wonderful things about owning a device that is supported here. There are scores of different radio roms available, and chance are you will be able to find one that does a better job than the one you've got, out-of-the-box.
Look in the wiki...they are listed there. Let people here know your device's configuration and your location, and they will point you to particular radios that might be a good choice. Before flashing anything, read through the wiki, and search for MrVanx, whose guides are very well written. Make sure you upgrade to HardSPL as noted everywhere.
You are not alone with your issue, but many of us here have resolved it, and you can, too.

thanks for the tip... but maybe I should add that this is not a permanent issue. Today it happen in two calls but then I call myself with other phone several times (and used the htc to call other phones several other times also) and I couldnt replicate the issue.
Then later ths day I made a long call (25 min) and during this call my voice volume changed twice (the person I called told me). I just can't say what I made to to this.
It almost seems like my mic is having some contact problem... but then it shouldnt record any voice during off-contact time...
I have my device SIM unlocked but not SuperCIDed. Will I be able to change Radio ROM without losing my warranty?
look for the SetAcousticParam shorcut in windows, copy the shorcut to the startup folder ,rebbot the device.
now leave the device alone for about 5 minutes ,rebbot again....you problem should be fixed.
this will set up you volume and will auto delete the shorcut provided that you also have the SetAcousticParam.exe and all the SetAcousticParam.csv files in your device.
please note that some cooks remove this files from the rom.

I do have several SetAcousticParam* files but after following your instructions the shortcut did not deleted itself. Should I do it again or delete it myself?

Hi All,
First question from me. I have just moved to the TD2 from nokia n95. On the N95 you could set it so that is would say the callers id when they rang. So, I had a short ring tone that would play, then it would say the name and cycle.
Does any body know if it is possible (or how to do it) on the TD2.
thanks for your help and ideas.
cheers
Use Voice Command...START-SETTINGS-PERSONAL-VOICE COMMAND
if it is installed on your device.
thanks jdwilson,
it is not installed on my device - do you know how I would get it?
Search on this forum or Google.
Well, I have got it installed and working for everything but the caller id (despite all the things ticked and setting the bits from other threads). If anybody has any great ideas they will be welcomed, but I will play.
It certainly allows a gap in the tone, but the phone is silent, then the tone starts up again, so I think it is trying to do it.
Use this:
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=249&cat=0&dl_id=673
But can it be used on other ROM versions?
I was never clear what, exactly, this update did - and since HTC said it could only be applied to a ROM version that pre-dated mine (and 6.5) I never found out!
If this 'fixes' any issue for Caller ID is it applicable to WM6.5???
thank fighter for the suggestion, but my rom version is not suitable
Read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561303
thanks again fighter, my caller id displays fine it is just not annouced.
When you open Voice Command, and select the phone option, on the right side of the screen, is a notification button, select that, then you will have 3 options for the announcement, make sure you select the one you want.
Yes, I have tried all of the options in notification, thanks. I will keep digging.
NetCallerID does not work in all countries and has no audio, but as an alternatieve;

Take a look here, I hope it will solve your problems http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619358
You can also download the cab file from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5485644&postcount=44
I never tried the cab but it should work.
Thanks for the help.
my version is 1.60.4622.0
I have tried most of the settings in the first link (and some others in another thread).
The control cab generates errors (I have installed mortscript)
I was wondering if the system was not putting the ttscallerid.wav in the volatile, so I am trying to search the the phone for the file, I have not found it yet - using activesync and explorer.
Still digging, but the other features are quite good.
