Dead Touchscreen - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Good afternoon,
Just wondering if anyone could give me a hand here. I have the Hermes in the guise of a MDA Vario II. On Thursday, I was using a Wi-Fi connection and the handset got really hot and since then the touch screen has been unresponsive. Since then I've noticed that one of the soft-keys looked as though they were stuck on (changed colour as though they were in being pressed), so I clicked the hard key underneath it which stopped the soft key from being as though it were pressed but that didn't fix the matter of the dead touchscreen.
I've also tried cooling the handset down and then trying to use it, but that doesn't fix the matter.
I've tried reflashing the ROM (Black 3.0.1) on the device, but I get stuck at the calibrating the touchscreen step as the touchscreen doesn't work. I can bypass the first tap screen command though, by pressing the power button to put the device into sleep mode and then pressing the power button again to get it out of sleep mode. This also happened when I flashed Black 2.5. The weird thing is that my phone will still ring even when stuck at the calibrating screen step but it won't show the caller; it just makes the ringing noise.
I've got to admit that I'm running out options fast. I don't want to open the device up unless it's unavoidable. I've alread had a look over some of the other issues with touchscreens but I can't find a resolution.

I think you are snookered here. Warranty fix may be problematic with all that flashing. You could open up (warranty voiding) to see if a connector has worked loose, but that is very much pot luck. Repair job at full cost - possibly very costly!! (and not guaranteed to be working when you get it back - often they replace the LCD screen that may in fact not be broken!)
Won't go into details of the screen issue - you'll have read them all anyway.
Mike

Thanks Mike,
I've got it back to the T-Mobile Hungary ROM now (but it still won't get past the screen calibration). I've been talking to T-Mobile to a seperate issue with the handset and they've said that they'll exchange it, so it looks like I could be sorted. My main concern is that they might query why it's got a Hungarian ROM on it; although I'm hoping that they'll see the splash screens and get stuck at the screen calibration so it won't be an issue.

Joypad and Softkeys not responding

I just flashed my girls 8525 and her joypad, softkeys, phone keys aren't responding anymore. They were responding at first, so I just figured a hard reset would do it. But it's still not working. The top message and IE button works though. Also, when I slide the phone open the softkeys there work. I can't even hard reset the phone.
Can you Reflash the phone? Maybe just a bad install.

Did that already...still not working
I think my phone is having the same problems as yours.
None of the physical buttons on the bottom of my phone are working. My scroll wheel works fine, as do the Power, Comm, and Camera buttons, and all on-screen "buttons" work, but it's like the bottom group of physical buttons on the phone are not responding. It's been somewhat intermittent, but now they're basically not working at all. I can't even hang up the phone with the End key, or activate the dialing pad with my Phone key.
I had done all of the WM6 Cingular upgrades from the Cingular website, and it seems my problems started shortly after that.
Just this morning, I ran the "Clear Storage" command, and now my system is running WM6, Build 18128.0.4.4, ROM version 3.62.502.3, ROM date 10/11/07
Have you tried flashing back to the ROM you had before that was working?
If it is not ROM related.......I would fear some hardware issue exist.
Can you go into the button settings under settings and reassign the button functions?
I'm downloading the ROM from HTC right now @
http://www.america.htc.com/support/8525/software-downloads.html
Will see if that fixes it, then I guess I will have to figure out where the previous ROM versions are archived, and download/install previous versions if this doesn't fix it.
Under the Button settings - the only 4 buttons that it allows you to reassign are all working fine. It's only the buttom cluster of buttons below the screen that are being "tempermental".
Oh - I'm fairly certain it's not hardware related because I can reset the phone, and push the Phone button, but then it quits working. It's like the buttons aren't being released / activated after the first time they're used.
Hopefully the ROM reinstall will fix it...
I'm having the same problem. All soft keys work for a sec after SR but go dead. I don't think it's rom based because I have HTC WM6 Rom, and all my troubles started after I put Pointui on my TYTN. I've Hard reset once already, might have to do it again. Anyone have any ideas why this is happening. I also get occasional white screen, again none of this happened before Pointui.
I get the occasional white screen, and I've never installed the Pointui that you mentioned.
Well, I just reinstalled the current HTC official ROM for the 8525, and without installing anything else, my buttons are still intermittent. I think it's the version of the ROM since the device is essentially "clean", correct?
The buttons seem to consistently function properly ONLY after I roll the scroll wheel. It's most definitely a software glitch.
edit to add: while randomly navigating around, I got the White screen.
Well, I've been on the phone with HTC, and AT&T's warranty department, and was basically told I could shove the phone up my a$$. What a POS operation.
Since my phone is out of warranty, they said if I wanted to do an "Out of warranty exchange", I could politely hand them $497, and they will joyfully ship me a replacement REFURBISHED phone. WTF!?!
In speaking with the warranty repair department, they said they would be HAPPY to take a look at it, and evaluate the problem, and call me with an estimated cost of repairs, of which the absolute minimum cost I would incur would be to the tune of about $129 - I was so appalled, I didn't write down the exact price. I told them I am 100% unwilling to give them money to fix a problem that I feel their software created, politely said goodbye and hung up the phone.
So, I'm essentially stuck with a phone that HTC / AT&T broke via their WM6 ROM update, and they're not willing to do anything (for free) to fix their mistakes.
My phone has suffered NO water damage, and no physical damage.
I did a ROM reinstall this morning, I did a hard reset (pushed the two dash buttons on the bottom cluster and held in the stylus reset button), and the only way I can make the cluster operate is to roll the wheel a few times, and then the buttons work (at least for one or two clicks, and then I have to roll the wheel again).
What a joke.
So, I guess I have to figure out how to revert to a previous WM5 ROM. Is this possible?
Everyone here is getting the same errors as me...the occasional white screen and so on. I've never tried scrolling the wheel to make the buttons recognize. I just hit the power button -> sleep mode -> power button and the buttons work again for a short time. LUCKILY phone is still in warranty and AT&T will ship me a new one <3 Buisness care...I'm thinking it's not software related because I installed schap's windows 6, on every last one of the hermes I've came across(About 10). Something might just be wrong with these hermes.
I have same problem with TYTN.... and what to do???
Okay - I bought a new phone over the weekend. As a last effort to fix the phone, I decided to google my problem, and I actually found the solution in the first link I clicked on. I feel pretty stupid, actually.
Slide your keyboard open, and look at the backside of the screen. The phillips screw at the bottom left of your screen - try loosening and/or tightening that screw. Mine was loose, so I had to tighten mine. My wife dropped my phone a week after I bought it (well over a year ago), and I guess the screw eventually worked itself loose.
My button pad now works like it should.
Guess I'll be taking my new phone back to the store and just keeping the 8525.
Did someone knof will that repair if i downgrade WM6 to WM5?
same thing is happening to my X01HT, wheel then it works for a few times and then it stops agian, wtf!?
WM5 downgrade did not resolve front buttons problems

I have had the same problem for quite a while now. I upgraded from the official WM5 that came with the TyTN to the official WM6. After a while the buttons on the front started to be intermittent. As well as the memory card "disappearing" and QWERTY keyword randomly dying (resulting in display fixed to landscape mode), both resulted in a hard reset to resolve. Anyway, to cut a long story short I contacted HTC who said they would repair the problems under warranty (as it was still in warranty) but due to my very misfortune the device suffered liquid ingress THE DAY BEFORE I SENT IT OFF!!! Thereby voiding the warranty (as notified by HTC after inspecting the device).
So, I would have to sort this out myself. I tried various unofficial ROMs, all of which work "for a while" (maybe a day or two) and then go back to being intermittent, and then not working completely. I have also used a WM6.1 ROM which seemed to work for a lot longer, but then stopped working just like the rest.
As of today I finally downgraded from WM6.1 as I was reluctant to do so before as I love some of the new features of WM6.1. But I took the plunge to see if it would resolve the button problem, as it was becoming a pain not having those buttons working. And the answer is........NO! After just a few minutes of me setting the device up the buttons ceased working.
I find the problem quite strange. I am a computer professional with an electronics background, and I am not convinced the problem is either software or hardware related (i.e. I am not convinced which is the problem). I have dismantled the phone on two occasions and all connections are connected perfectly. I have changed the ROM numerous times and tried different version of WM but all to no avail. One of HTC's solutions is to check whether a button is stuck, but all buttons are fine.
I have recently purchased Tomb Raider for Pocket PC, and within that game I have on numerous occasions "lost" the front buttons (on the occasions that the buttons were working). I happen to play about with other buttons, and after pressing the Comm Manager button all the front buttons returned to working order (but then they would stop working again shortly after). I tried this numerous times in Windows Mobile (6.1) when the buttons ceased working and it did not resolve the problem, however it still does in Tomb Raider.
After downgrading to WM5 I have noticed that with every power on and power off all the buttons and lights works correctly (in WM6.x if the buttons had ceased working then the lights would remain on even when in standby). So, it would appear in WM5 you can restore the buttons functionality by pressing the standby button twice (once to turn it off and once to turn it back on).
So, I am puzzled. Is it hardware or is it software? Any ideas? Is it a driver issue? Is it not informing a chip somewhere to power up the buttons? Is it a loose connection? Who knows? HTC certainly will not tell me (obvisouly because they want me to pay for them to repair it).
So, any ideas?
Adam
BTW the memory card problem and QWERTY keyboard problem were resolved by using an unofficial ROM.
Check that the "ok" button next ot the jog wheel is not stuck. Seems mine is, need to open the phone up and fix it.
I actually do not have problems with the D-pad but I'm getting problem with the Answer(green) and Hang Up(red) button...
Anyhow... anyone has a solution since then?
similar problems
hi i thought i would join this discussion as i have been having similar problems with my tmobile vario 2. i had it for a year with no problems and then the day i upgraded it to an orange tytn II the bottom buttons stopped working. i have taken the whole phone apart to check connections and everything seems fine and when i put it back together the buttons work fine for about a minute and then stop again. i have been tearing my hair out, i still have the original wm5 installed that came with the phone and before it stopped working it had been kept very well and not been knocked or dropped or anything. All the buttons on the top and side and the control pad and center button at the bottom work the only buttons that dont work are the 6 at the side of the control pad which pretty much renders the phone useless as a phone.
IF ANYONE SOLVES THIS PROBLEM OR HAS SIMILAR EXPERIENCES PLEASE CONTACT ME!!

HELP! Touch screen no longer working!

This morning, my touch screen suddenly stopped working. Hardware keys are still working but device is not responding when the screen is touched. Already tried a hard reset but no success, now I am stuck at the align display screen. Also can no longer get to the bootmenu, so can't reflash my device! Any suggestions on what's wrong or how this can be fixed? Thanks for any help!!!!
I'm curious
Didn't you see any spots (like oil spots on the water) to the touch screen ?
I had the same problem .I replaced the touch screen and the phone is working again .
No, nothing, was working fine at night, when i woke up just randomly stopped working. The display is not cracked or anything, so wondering whether a screen replacement will do the trick? ALso strange that I can no longer get to the bootscreen to enter HardSPL...
Had the same problem, the issue (with mine anyhow) was the digitizer, which is an overlay that sits on top of the actual LCD screen to give it touch capability....
good post here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=392301&highlight=digitizer
I had a similar problem,
To get past the Align screen I had to apply pressure to the top of the screen opposite side of front facing camera - then use the screen as normal
I reflashed the original rom (manually getting to bootloader) - it worked for a bit but ended up sending is back to 02 for repair.
All they did apparently, was to reflash the ROM again and its been working since.
Had the same problem a couple of times a while ago, when i was trying out WM6.5.
All buttons worked but not the touch screen. Never really found out exactly what the problem was, but the first time I managed to get it working again by resetting the alignment:
While gps button pressed (under green button), press center D-pad button this will bring you to alignment screen.
The other time the "alignment trick" didn't work, but i got it working again, after flashing the original ROM couple of times. (And doing hard reset between each time)
I think I used this ROM
You say you can't get to the boot menu, do you run hard-SPL?
most likely its an hardware issue - had this one too, of course out of nowhere!
flash with original rom and if you cannot align screen (as the hardware seems to be broken) send it in for repair. it will be under guarantee, if screen isnt broken.
I had similar problem, I passed the alignment but i had a huge offset in the touch.
I replaced the touch screen and it solved the problem.
You can find it in ebay for 1 US $.

Thanks for all the help guys!!! I do run hard-SPL and have flashed many ROMS - just don't know why it won't enter the bootscreen anymore when I reset the device and press the camera button. Did manage to upload original ROM again by using activesync, now trying to restore original hard-SPL so I can send off the device for repair.
Hi, i had also the same problem, i find a threat in the internet... try to push the upper corners on the device with your fingers and then tab on the screen to see if the problem solved.
I had the same issue.
Its more than likely your digitizer. I tried flashing 100 different roms but always stuck at the align screen stage.
I actually have the barely used digitizer if anyone wants it (for a few dollars of course hehe) My mainboard died a couple of weeks after i installed the digitizer.
needless to say i moved away from the ****ty build quality of HTC to the MUCH better build quality of the iPhone.

Touch Response Problem

I have a Sprint Touch [Vogue]. It has served me very well up until recently.
One day, I was using my phone normally when the battery died. No big deal right?
Well, I charge my phone and reboot it. For some reason, Windows is EXTREMELY slow and unresponsive. I figure that something vital had been corrupted by the battery's death, and that it was nothing that a hard reset couldn't fix.
I performed a hard reset.
I let the utilities for the first boot run to customize the phone. Everything seemed pretty much normal. I configured my settings, re-added my contacts, etc. Then I turned the screen off [with the power button].
I turn it back on later to do something. I touch the screen. It immediately and accurately detects the touch's location, but it continues detecting a touch. For 20-30 seconds, after the input has stopped.
It was strange, so I soft reset the device. It booted, with the same problem. So I performed another hard reset. I did some configuration [the response acting normal at this point], and then turned the screen off. Turning it back on brought the same problem back.
This problem still exists on my phone, even after numerous hard resets and even ROM flashes.
A better description of the problem: When the device is first turned back on [meaning brought out of standby], its touch response is messed up. It will immediately and accurately detect any touch input, but it will continue to detect the input for up to 30 seconds AFTER it has been released, as if you were holding it the whole time.
WHY is this???? My phone is almost unusable because of this!!!! I can still place/ receive calls, using the navigation buttons and the red and green buttons. But the touch response is screwed!
Can someone please shed some light on this problem I'm having?
Phone specs: Windows Mobile 6.1, HTC / Sprint customized. Minimal third party software is currently installed.
[I've already determined that third party software is not the problem, because i haven't installed any!]
Possible solution
Hi,
today I experienced something similar to your description - no touch response when I tried to pickup a call. The strange thing is that last night everything was working and no settings were modified nor programs were added/removed. The screen suddenly 'died'. At the moment I am using it through a program MyMobiler which brings the mobile display to the PC and I can use the mouse to control the phone (it is like VNC for the phone screen, the phone is connected with ActiveSync).
This is temporary solution untill I finish my backups of files, programs, settings. I didnot performed hard reset yet, hope this will solve my problem
In the following link there is a 'magical' solution - to remove the screen protector:
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/1112981/LCD+or+Touch+screen+not+working
P.S. I had removed the screen protector and voilá - the screen is now touch responsive. The root cause of the problem obviously is the dust between the screen and the protector which results in constant screen pressing - and as a result no accepting my finger presses.
I hope this will work for you and others with similar problem.
I had a similar experience with an old Vogue.....In my case, there was no battery death precursor, but it just started acting up. Not too long thereafter, I noticed the screen/digitizer was forming what looked like an air bubble between the digitizer and the LCD on one place of the screen. The screen was becoming defective. I eventually had to buy another Vogue from a friend who didn't have a clue of the 6900's potential, and didn't want his anymore, so I got it cheap.
Sounds like your screen/digitizer may be on it's last leg.

Digitizer gone - but not completely dead... Any advice? [VIDEO]

Hey my lovely XDA-ers, I'm really hoping for some magic here...
Yesterday my HD2 digitizer just stopped working... the Touchscreen will not respond to any inputs. It was bitterly cold outside so I was half hoping that an overnight stay in a warm room would help, but no avail...
The thing is, on one in every 5 restarts, I get a small amount of life from it. One one in 15 restarts, I get full use. So there's still life in there.
I could understand if it broke because I dropped the phone/squashed it, but at the time I was just playing Robo Defence, completely normal use, when all of a sudden it stopped responding.
I've uploaded a video, which shows how, occasionally, the bottom fifth of the screen works. However, as shown, when I'm using the top half of the screen, the digitizer appears to be receiving input from the bottom of the screen, as though I'm trying to perform a multi-touch action. For this reason I'm hoping there still be some way to rescue the phone without an expensive repair job. I bought it in March from XDA Marketplace, and it's served me faithfully since, but because of that I do not think I have the manufacturer's guarentee, or insurance
I've hard-reset, I've reflashed my ROM, I've tried in both WM and Android (my usual OS at the moment), I've reflashed over WM ROMs, and the problem stays the same... (also read all related threads!)
Sorry for inverted nature of vid!
So does anyone have any suggestions to try? Otherwise I might go through a £130 repair service on htcrepairs.co.uk - they do not show up on a forum search so I was wondering if anyone had used their service before?
Thanks all, appreciate any ideas.
Edd
Very odd indeed. I don't have a solution for your problem, but a suggestion. It is a long shot, but might help.
Whenever i had similar problems with my Wizard (i know, kind of old but one of the best older devices every made by HTC), i opened it and cleaned it from the inside and checked all the connections of keyboard, touchscreen, etc. to the mainboard. Sometimes it helped...
In the end, if you buy the replacement kit, you anyway have to open the HD2, so why not try this in prior to buying the kit...
A lot of people seem to have this problem. There's a lot of information on it here. Do a search. But the short answer is its a hardware problem. If your phone is still under warranty send it back. I think HTC will fix it for free if It's less than a year old. But try your carrier first.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
BAD NEWS...
i had EXACTLY this happen to me. eventually it totally stopped responding. Only option is to replace the digitizer.
GOOD NEWS..
After a month of searching, I found a really good guy to do it. www.iexpertstudio.com . The owner is VINCE. you can email him on his site. He charged $110 including mailing it back to me. He replaced the LCD and digitizer and sent it back. All works perfectly now.
I see you are in the UK so dont know if it makes sense to send it to the US. Alternative is to go on ebay and buy the screen/digitizer and replace it yourself.
(BTW normally i would have chucked the device, but even after 1 year I still dont think there is as versatile a device as the HD2. Had the DHD been 3G useable in the US I would have bought one.)
Thanks for the feedback guys, I've been doing some investigation my end (and you're right, there are similar threads on here, but none which had a "half-screen working" problem.)
I've narrowed the culprit down to my "Back" button. It's somehow exerting pressure on the screen, leading to either a non-responsive digitizer or an input at the bottom of the screen.
I might add this to an entry in the "ANDROID KILLS YOUR BUTTONS" thread
My choice is to live manually with it, or get the company mentioned in the first post to give it a good clean, but whether it's worth £80 just yet is a question for me.
Anyway, thanks for your input, guess this thread will close, but to any readers in future, if your screen seems to die, see if it's pressure on the screen caused by the buttons!
I can totally support your reasoning.
I haven't had any problems whatsoever with the touchscreen in almost a year of honoured career of this phone, while this morning I was trying to unlock it with no success (nothing special happened, I even used it 10 minutes this morning already). At first I thought it was the usual "sleepy" behaviour of the screen right after waking up, butafter sliding down the hdmini style unlocker at least 10 times with no effect I really started freaking out :O
I have longpress endkey set on instant reboot, and after that it seemed working... just not for too long.
To cut to the chase, what in my opinion supports your idea of hardware buttons interfering is:
sometimes, as I have LMT installed, with the tap&hold option enabled, swiping with just one finger triggered double swype instead (as if the screen detected a second, firm press on the screen elsewhere even if I sure as heck was swyping with one finger)
using mymobiler didn't work as well; if it was a hardware touchscreen problem, mymobiler should work, as it simulates touches, so it will just do its job even if the touchscreen is totally dead... while, IF the hardware touchscreen detected a firm press somewhere, mymobiler wasn't able to actively simulate another press
repeatedly pressing on the end key (which seems to be the culprit in my case) apparently solves the problem, as I can use the touchscreen again; also, a prolonged cycle of hibernating with end key, waking with end key, swyping down the hdmini lock (repeat at libitum) seemed to work, as if I dislodged something by activating the button so often
What I don't understand anyway is: HOW can a button pressing on the digitizer be exerting a touch action? If this was a resistive screen, I'd understand, but it's capacitive, and not even capacitive pens are so good as fingers in activating the touch. The buttons are just plastic with a metal contact underneath, and this metal contact shoudl by no means be anywhere near the digitizer.
Bah.
I know I have 2 years warranty on this device, but being far from my phone during the warranty processing gives me the creeps, so I'll just go on using it and pray this to be the defaillance of one sunday morning not to be seen again... after several soft resets (and fantasizing about a new rom flash, which I need anyway for other reasons) the problem seems to have settled by delicately bashing on the end key. The unlock slider is responsive after every wake up now... FOR now.
Praying...
My screen also died. So the only thing I have to do is press on the end key for a couple of times to make it work again?
lol, that's ONE possibility.
Just saying, in my case it worked, and still does since it happened once more this evening, so it's definitely got something to do with the hardware keys messing around (and hopefully dislodging themself for good, or I'll have to send it back for servicing), anyway in your case it could also be a dead digitizer, so no go
let's put all this about touch screen in 1 sticky thread pls.
I've been living for the problem for about three weeks now. It's never got worse, but never got better. It's a livable situation so for the moment I'll deal with it. I might check with HT about warranty, but it's not yet bothersom enough to make me want to flash back to stock, send it off etc. etc.

Actually, I don't like having paid good money for a defective phone, but being without HD2 for up to a couple of weeks to one month (maybe? have no idea how fast HTC servicing is) is troublesome. I may buy for a deal a blue angel as a spare, yet, no GPS...
The most problematic event is if you get the "stuck" screen during a call.
In my case, it's the end key that messes it up; if the screen's dead, pressing twice the end key, firmly enough (once for screen off, then again for screen back on) wakes up the screen, and apparently, during a ringing incoming call, you can press the hardware end key without rejecting it, so it's a viable option (not taking into consideration the fact that trying to wake up the screen takes time, and the caller may give up after a while if you're not fast enough).
But if for any reason the screen gets stuck while the call is connected, I am stuck too, as to wake it up I should press the end key thus hanging on the other party.
Sad story.
EDIT: forget what I wrote, pressing end key while phone is ringing WILL reject the call. I tried it before during a real incoming call and apparently it didn't do it, but now it just did.
I also have a HD with a dead screen....
Only thing here is I have sent it back twice already to TelSuck here in Australia only to have it returned after the tech has wiped it over and reflashed it for me... What helpful little imps they are!
Code:
http://www.youtube.com/v/T6ssqmpRIB0
Its drivin me nuts sending it away for 3 weeks at a time to have someone with just enough grey matter to be able to wield a screwdriver tell me nothing is wrong.
Happy to try any suggestions!
@insinr8
this thread is just for half-dead screens where the screen sometimes actually works. Unless you can resurrect it by firmly pressing on the hardware keys, but if it's dead on a regular basis, then it's not our same problem I'm afraid :-(
@OP
while having an "attack", did you try plugging out the microsd to see if it magically solved the problem?
I mean, if it did, it would still be a hardware problem related to the microsd slot, since there is no point for a faulty microsd to mess up the touchscreen, and let it work from time to time

I will try that - it seems to happen more frequently when plugged in and charging, and now more buttons seem to be the cause/fix (e.g. now the home-button, or when I am on home-screens the phone will swipe "left", whereas before it would swipe "right". I'll keep playing.
I may check out HTC as I reckon my warranty, if I have one, will run out soon... Will still wait til after Xmas as I need my toy for the boring bits of Xmas!
I'm having same trouble now whit my phone except problems started mouth ago. After some period I again power up my phone and suddenly everything worked perfectly. Unfortunately this last only for two days and then exactly same problems happened, partially function screen.
As far as I know only good solution is replacing digitizer... I already ordered one for me.
exactly the same problem for me.. I sent it back with warranty yesterday

Ditto.
Actually, my warranty lasts two years, which means until 2012, anyway I cannot stand risking to lose calls because the screen dies on me in the wrong moment, and the only way to wake it up is pressing the endkey (which by the way is the only "cure", and apparently never the cause).
I will be uploading a video on youtube regarding this, also to show it to the guys at the HTC support who will be asking me to hard reset and reflash until annoyed to death (as if that will solve anything)
Bump
This is the video that I just uploaded to youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3-PNYwpYeI
EDIT: One day after, the problem has become way more frequent, 1 out of three times I wake up the phone, diugitizer is dead and I need the " on the end key to make it work
Uploaded another video on youtube with problem showing on vanilla lockscreen so HTC support doesn't try and tell me it's CHT lockscreen's fault
Last bump.
Screen has ben promoted from "hardware key problem" to "permanent death".
Now I can use the phone with mymobiler, but I can't anymore with touch, I seem to not be able even to wake it up even by pressing on end key
Re-flashing last official rom upgrade now to see if anything changes... yeah, sure
Ouch - good luck, hope mine doesn't go that way...

screen non responsive after wake up

Had my vega for just 3 days, i left it on charge on the first night and when i tried to use it the morning after the touch screen was more or less completely dead, only a 1" stripdown the left side in landscape mode was responding to touch so i couldn't even unlock it without using the wake then press the back button method - even then the screen was non responsive.
I did a reboot hoping this would solve it but no change, anyway after leaving it off for half an hour and rebooting the screen started to work again and I had no further issues that day.
that night i let it go to sleep again and had the same issue again this morning, the screen was non responsive after a prolonged( 6hour ) sleep
this time i decided to see if it was software so put it into nvboot mode and flashed the modaco rom, - after getting the new rom up and running the screen was still lazy, serious dead spots in terms of touch, i let it go to sleep for a few hours in the afternoon and tonight the touch is not working again.
I bought it online from dixons, and tbh the box appeared to have already been opened when i got it.
I'm starting to think its a faulty unit with a serious hardware fault - has anyone else experienced the same - did you find a fix?
Have you tried running the screen calibration tool, i think it is included in the modaco rom. I have not had anything as serious as you seem to have (only a slight dead spot in the bottom left corner of the screen, which the tool fixed) might be worth a go, if you have not tried it, before getting a exchange.
thanks Ganjaman, cant get the darn thing past the accept terms and conditions screen after a fresh install of stock rom because i cant press the accept button because its in a non responsive part of the touch screen.
dont think i have any option but to return it

Bad luck! Hope you can get a exchange in-store.
Have flashed the new 1.09 rom and it seems to have fixed the screen issue.
What was interesting. Was that if I warmed the tablet up slightly near a heater the screen would slowly start working again. Ganjaman, will your 1.08 update add market to 1.09
I am going to remake it for v1.09 shortly, i need to remove flash change the build.prop and i am going to add usb switcher. Glad you sorted it.
