Can anyone help me on this one. I am looking at the Trinity (Ornage M700) and see a coax style connector on the rear. I have spent the last three days searching many forums and many threads and no one seems to have a definitive answer for what it does. My questions are (I think?) fairly simple:
Is this an external GPS or Phone antenna connection?
If it is GPS, can I disable the internal GPS to check if it works?
If I can, could someone please tell me how.
I realise I could buy a BT GPS but the wired ones are only £10 (delivered)!!
ANy help, greately apperciated.
in this topic they talk about the same thing you are wondering about:
I bought the aerial. As I expected, it did nothing for the GPS strength, but it did slightly improve the Phone signal so it was probably worth it.

This is wired solution which comes with cable that connects directly to the back to your xda's syc/charge port (com1), therefore it has nothing to do with bluetooth.
hope this help, cheers
how much is it?
For as little as £59.99

yes, you're right, bluetooth offer you tidier surroundings with less cable going around you. However if you do need to charge them in the car, you got problem. Because you can only charge one device at a time since you have only one cigarette power port in your car (unless you use cigarette hub which then gives you two or more cigarette socket)
What if you travelling a lot i.e. 2 or more hours of navigational need. Neither of your unit can keep you on for more the 2 hours, in fact far more less.
Now, with this Personal GPS Kit, you charge your PDA units as well as getting the data from the com1 port as it works same as that you put it on it’s cradle (syc/charge) at the same time.
I have heard there is software out there but this girl is in over her head. i would like to enable the internal gps for the 8525 but I don't know where to start any ideas?
Thanks guys

It's not possible.
"Hey, your an idiot."-------sorry thats just one of my favorite sayings.
But on a serious note you need to do some researching and read the thread about the internal gps and how it can not be done. Adios

The internal gps was hacked with a homebrew driver and a trinity radio, however it was found that the internal gps did NOT have an antenna present and the hardware mod to fit one would just be stupid to try (VERY likely to brick).
If you follow the gps thread (in the hermes upgrading section) you will find that the chip reports two satelites in range but im sure this was found to be erroneous.
The best and cheapest and probably the most wise thing to do is to use a bluetooth gps receiver.
thanks mrvanx
thanks mrvanx..I heard there was an internal gps but I thought i needed some software to activate it.sorry to hear it.anyone know the best/cheapest bluetooth gps device?

have a looky at this:
HOLOX BT-321 GPS Module Review
Its possibly the crappiest review ever but im using that gps unit and its awesome (works fine with the hermes)
Hi,
this has been discussed before and in different places, but nobody came up with a valid solution:
Is there a quick GPS program that works for Trinity? Is there one in the new p3600i that works with P3600? What about the Kaiser one, did anyone get it to work properly on the Trinity, if yes, does it actually work? There's the Qgps, apparently from HP wich has the same qualcomm chip - it doesn't seem to work.
So, the objective of this post is to summarize anything that works. Please do not post anything about other GPS quick fix from other vendors or Sirf fixes, we already know they don't work.
thanks!
Nope.
there is a gps sat location updater piece of software but it doesn't seem to do anything on Trinity in UK.

which one is it?
thanks!
P.S. QGPS appears to help a little bit, but it's difficult to tell
This may be a solution, but it requires a data connection

Yet another placebo - as the final remark in the thread underlines....
http://cnn.cn/shop/8525tytnhermes-antenna-p-1615.html
did this thing working?
and where is the software?
any who nows?
The GPS on the Hermes is disabled at the chip level in hardware--so NO the antenna in the link won't help. The only way to get gps is to sell your hermes and buy a kaiser or buy an add on gps

if you did a search (like you should have) you would have found the other threads on it including the original one where someone pulled a phone to bits to work it out.
I know this might be stupid question to some of you, and I've been searching through threads the last two days, non-stop, but I can't find anything about getting my GPS to work with my Wing. They have the antenna plug in on the back side, and so I bought a wired antenna to plug into it, but it won't work. I'm trying to use Google maps, and I've also tried to use LiveSearch and Nav4All... Is there something I need to do? I've literally gone through every single setting (com ports and baud rates) to try and figure out which one it was, but it's not working. HELP PLEASE! I'm so frustrated. If someone could either point me in the right direction or help me figure this out, I would really really appreciate it. Thanks so much in advance!

I'm not 100% sure but the antenna connection is for a GSM antenna for boosting the reception while in a car it's not for GPS.
GPS connections a set thourgh bluetooth via a "GPS mouse".
i believe you have to get a bluetooth GPS receiver, they are pretty small and you can just put it on your dashboard or something. i don't know the pricing though

Well, Poopoo. I could have sworn I read somewhere that it was for GPS. Darn it all. Well, guess there's $30 down the drain.
I can confirm that, its for GSM, using it on the external antenna of my car.

If your looking for GPS for your Wing check out this site. www.buygpsnow.com
Fair warning tho, there are plenty of people that have gotten there GPS from there and had no problems, but I ended up having to shop mine back becauise it was faulty. There CS is so-so. good luck
it probably said it's for GPRS... not GPS.
Antenna connector on back of Wing
Using the right cable, antenna and booster, you can boost the signal to a full 3 watts like the old bag phones. I've got mine hooked to a wilson and a yagi -- when I'm home I tether to my Laptop and use Internet Sharing and its as fast as T-Mobile allows.

I got a bluetooth gps from ebay, its a Holux m1200, around 50 bucks and it works great along with iGo program on my phone, its awesome!
Wow, didn't even know I could turn my phone into a GPS piece. So if I get the bluetooth GPS piece and a program, I can have it? How's the accuracy and how well is the software updated? I know there's a lot of new development around and wasn't sure if it's like Mapquest where it's a crap shoot if it'll find where you're going.
