Hi all, i recently flashed my spv M3100 to wm6 (now on t-mobile uk) instead of orange and it's still showing the orange disply on bootup i've googled on how to remove that and have the default htc showing but banging my head on the keyboard, as i've changed the shell for the phone and that's the only thing what's left to get removed
1) in wm6 how do you get the click when you touch the start menu like it used to make in wm5?
2) under wm5 in messenger when i used to get a message or somebody used to come online it used to pop up a box like the sms does, but in wm6 all it does it pop up the little msn man at the top of the screen and vibrate the phone is there a way to get the box pop up (if i havent got the today screen open i miss what somebody says or havent a clue who's just logged in)
3) how do i do video calling in wm6 as there used to be a video call button above call but in the dialer in wm6 it aint there
4) is there anyway of stopping the phone going into lock mode when you connect it to the pc as active-sync 4.5 keeps telling me the phone is locked, when i unlock it by entering my passcode it reboots active sync then the phones locked again :-(
beisdes them questions wm6 is lovely
spl 2.10
radio 1.41
wm6
supercid unlocked
Hi, there are answers to all your questions already posted in the site. On the brown bar at the top of the site is a search function. Give that a try and you should find everything you need.
Good luck!
Couple of answers
You could google using XDA in the search, for example "XDA change splash screen Hermes", I guarantee you'll find an answer to that one mate
Q # 1, Go to Settings, Phone, then select Short Tones from the Keypad drop down.
As for #3, go in to TweaksUI under settings, and you'll find a check box for Enable Video Call in the Phone tab.
And for #4 there ought to be a check box on your password screen in Active Sync to Remember password....??
Good luck,
Thx for the advice
removed the op logo proper, and got the video calling back but still cant get the click just on the start menu, but i can live with it like that, now to fill this 4gig mem card now also when i inserted the phone into the usb a couple of time's active sync comes up with do you want to unlock the phone when it's insterted to the pc (or something like that) so i clicked on yes and it's ok now, on wm5 it used to ask for a password on the pc, but in wm6 it locks the phone device :-( just had to get used to that
Found 'em - menu click sounds!!!
Knew I'd seen them somewhere - they're >HERE<!!!!
If you download and install the WM5 CAB file, that'll give you the clicks (which seem to annoy most people ) when you tap on stuff in WM6
Enjoy!
Mark.
Thx Mark for the link, got me phone working 100% now, if your ever in Manchester, I'll buy you a pint for that m8, been looking for this for omg from when i upgraded to wm6, thx bud

Hi all,
New to XDA, so sorry if this is just such a stupid question!
How can I get rid of the O2 phone 'skin'. When I first upgraded my ROM I got a much nicer phone. Then the O2 install happened and I'm back to the horrible O2 version. Can I clear this out without too much trouble?
Also, while I'm here, can I do the same for the welcome screen which always seems to stick an O2 logo across whatever title is displayed?
Many thanks in advance
GeorgeBR

here are some phone skins
about the splash screen then do a search about it some guy made a tool which let you change it
If u mean the O2 Active cack that is everywhere, then follow these steps mate. If not, forget it
The way I removed them was ...
a) Start, Settings, Today, Items(at the bottom) and remove the tick from the O2 Active line.
b) Start, Setting, System, Memory, then Stop All Programs Running in memory.
c) Start, Settings, System, Remove Programs. Then remove the O2 progs. I think theres three in total, ActiveUI, Xmail, and one other (think it has o2 in the name).
If when you go back to the Today Screen, the background is all strange with lines on it, that is because the picture that was used has been removed. Therefore go into Start, Settings, Today, and choose Spiral or any other theme you have installed to replace the desktop image from the Today Screen.
Hope that helps,
Rgds,
Rob.
Or check this post for two of my skins you can use...

Is there any way to remove the tacky looking O2 logo that runs along the top of the screen next to the connection status logo? I doubt there is but i thought theres no better place to ask than here. Its only a niggle but it looks too pixelated to me in comparison with the rest of the home screen.
Hi
I had the same niggle so I asked how to remove the O2 stuff.

Unfortunately I couldn't get the mms/gprs cab files back so I set them up manually.
Sloane
Nice one. What/where are the settings so that i can also setup the mms/gprs manually if i need to?
Hi
I went here
http://flash.o2.co.uk/productsservices/mobileweb/pdfs/Pocket PC manual set up instructions.pdf
A bit tricky to follow but I got there in the end.
Sloane
Thats gonna come in VERY handy, thanks matey
It's probably a bit late for this but after setting up my mini s in basic mode I deleted the following from the startup folder:
Active.lnk (because it was trying to run O2 software that wasn't fully installed)
and
connections.exe.lnk (which made the annoying O2 logo appear)
That way i kept the settings
There is still some O2 Active software installed on the PPC but I haven't played around with uninstalling it as there are other things to play with.
When you're happy with the less O2'fulness of your mini S, check the October blog posts on beyondthetech.com/ as Raphael (as well as the MMS settings cab files) has some tips for registry edits to make the Wizard more friendly.
My particular favourite is the display indicator that sits next to the SIP button and shows when the keyboard is in caps or dot mode (and if its locked in that mode or just shifted for the next key). Oh, and the complete guide to removing Speech Dialer so you can add MS Voice Commander instead..

I cheated for the settings, phoned O2 customer care (number on their website) and they e-mailed me all the settings
Im new to all this WM5 stuff so sorry in advanced.
Basically i got my new MDA Compact II today (branded T-Mobile of course!) and since I'm using it with Vodafone i started to mess around (yes I'm silly!)
Basically i changed the dial pad theme/skin... decided i don't like it and have been searching around this forum for the last few hours trying to find the original WM5 dial pad theme/skin that came with my device.
I managed to get it to look like the WM5 pad with a few files on this forum but the numbers are out of line with the skin... so the number 1 will be just to the right of the first button.
It still works but doesn't look very pleasing.
If anyone could help?
I was going to format it back to the original but when i turn it off and back on its just the same, and when i press the pin hole button at the bottom of my device to reset it, its the same when it starts up.
I have my original T-Mobile CD with a label "Windows Mobile 5.0 PPC Phone Edition GSM w/Outlk 2002" but i cant seem to find out how to do a fresh install of the WM5 on my device.
if it works the same like with a magician, u should hard reset the device, then when it say's it will start installing extra software, just soft-reset the device before this starts.
then when u start up the device again, u should have a clean WM5 on your device, without all the t-mobile-crap. Then u can install everything you need to get your Vodafone-card working properly, like gprs-settings and mms-settings, then run a program which is placed in the ext_rom to hide the extended rom if u please, the program is called delete_vdisk_shortcut.cab or something like it.
good luck
Being new to the world of PDAin i thought pressing the pin-hole reset button did a hard reset and cleared everything... which didnt seem to be the case.
After a little playing around while bored on the train to work i found something called "Clear Storage" in the settings which did the trick, altho using clear storage on the way to work left me with non of my contact numbers all day which wasnt great
Cheers for the help.
Dave.
hi there
I have orange M5000 with
exRom unlocked etc
my phone app is playing up
firstly smartdialer does not seem to exist and the option
in menu does not start any dialogue
video call is not there either tho the options still exist
(this I can live with but I used intellidialer all the time on my M2000
and I believe this is the same prog)
help would be appreciated
cheers
simonastro
gah
trust me to forget the weirdest thing
on phone app menu
select options and I get the settings page
this cannot be killed tho - I have to reset the device
moreover cannot alter the settings - stuck on ring fantasy.wma
( Have got dialer and video back by selection of orange
ex ROM cabs - had to guess but all is ok )
oddness
I understand, that you did not install all cab files which were supplied by orange in extended rom. Maybe you missed installing a required cab file?
Just my quick thoughts.
Good luck.
Try installing the ENABLE-VT-RTPLUGIN-0727-2-SIGNED.CAB or similar file... should do the trick
I did install that cab prior to my last post and
video calling and smartdial are back
however the
stuck on phone options issue is unresolved
cheers
Hey all!
So I've been scouring the forums for a while now, I truly have, and all I end up with is more questions and confusion.
I have a vario 2.
It has some annoying issues, like the x not actually closing, msn seems to refuse to stay ended, just loads itself back up all the time, windows media player always stops responding when trying to close etc. From what I've read, fairly common things. Oh and not being able to set custom sms tones.
Now I finally managed to work out that I needed some extra programs, like shell something or other? which I downloaded to the phone, not a pocketpc application was the response.
So I read, use activesync. But hey....Windows Vista doesn't have active sync. Which btw also keeps loading itself up on the bleeding phone.
Something I came accross tonight too, is that when hooked up as a usb modem it apparently doesn't charge as fast as it uses, cause it went flat on me tonight mid surf.
There's a ton of stuff that is meant to be do-able on the phone but I just can't figure out how to do it.
WM6 seems a likely move, but so many different pro's and con's, some people having issues etc, I wonder is 5 safer? Not that I would know how to install wm6 anyway.
Upgrading windows messenger, the live beta seems to have vanished, and any links I've downloaded it from don't work.
Please guys! help! Plain english cause the phone having about a million names doesn't help and the abbreviations I havna't worked out yet are just more nails in my already well sealed coffin
Thanks in advance for any and all help!
OK......wall of text
the x button was NOT designed to actually close the program, the idea is the system frees up memory when it is needed, its only recently that the x-button app (that ACTUALLY closes programs) has come about.
secondly assigning custom SMS tones only works if you have them in .wav format and save them in the windows directory.
VISTA can be configured to work with the RUUs we use on here (Rom Update Utilities), and the WMDC (windows mobile device centre) is the vista equivalent of Activesync. Activesync loads all the time on the device but it uses hardly any memory so leave it alone
WM6 may be the way to go for you because you can assign mp3s to alert tones (and not just ring tones as in WM5) however by reading your post it doesnt seem you are quite there yet (reading-wise) to upgrade confidently, your comments on sms tones and activesync show that you havent read enough as these points have been addressed MANY times.
feel free to use my WM6 upgrade guides however do read through the various threads if you have ANY questions you feel have not been answered. As always read the wiki
Hello again, thanks for your reply
Oh I have read many posts regarding sms for instance, but so many different answers.
You can't do it, go away.
You need a 3rd party program, like xxx (which I found didn't do what I needed)
You can only use .wav
Its do-able, but you need wm6
List goes on
I followed your guide to Vista, followed by flashing HardSPL to the letter, I honestly have done (yeah i'm impatient and like to get in the at the deep end)
It doesn't appear to be working however.
Bootloader originaly says:
HERM300
IPL-1.01
HERM300
SPL-1.04
I load up HardSPL and follow your instuctions, however as soon as I hit yes on my device to run the program, it instantly restarts into the Bootloader but this time it says:
HERM300
IPL-SSPL by Des
HERM300
SPL-1.09.ds
After hardspl then times out trying verify the information I do a soft restart to get it all working again.
Now if I put it back into the Bootloader, its back to its original settings?
Any ideas?
Please?
Anyone?
Echo?
your using vista correct? make sure you use the Vista guide and load the driver from a post about upgrading with vista!!! also make sure you uncheck allow USB connections in the Vista WMDC sync setting and before you do any flashing put your phone manually into bootloader. I know vista flashing is a pain at first but you will learn the biggest key is to make sure you uncheck the box in WMDC sync settings and put your phone in bootload before trying to flash
Thanks for the reply austin
Yup using Vista, and did follow the guide.
Although the guide indicates re-enabling the usb sync and leaving the phone in normal running before trying to updated HardSPL
So annoying ;(
as another thought....t-mobile phones are locked to certain settings...
this wouldn't affect it though right?
