I don't know if this os the correct forum to ask this question or better to put it in "Trinity upgrading...." Tell me if this is the case.
I'd like to ask if anyone has an idea of why I have the problem I'll describe:
Till several days ago, everything worked perfectly, GPS, TomTom, Messages, SMSs, Mail, etc., after having installed de new official ROM and the SDHC and ATi patches (without the patches, GPS/TomTom hang). Then I did:
1.- Install a connection to my mobile ISP and its software for connection.
2.- Configured GPRS and Multimedia Messages
3.- Installed un couple of Astronomy Software (TheSky6 and VITO AstroNavigator) in the SD card.
4.- Installed and removed Opera and Netfront (they didn't serve for the purpose I was looking for)
5.- Installed Java Cre-Me V4 (in the device)
Now, when I do a soft-reset (or switch off and on), if the SD card is "in", the systems hungs after (or in the time of) asking for the phone PIN code.
If I take out the SD card, everything seems to go OK, then I put the card in, but I don't get any SMS message, nor I'm able to enter in the message application. The remaining programs (including TomTom) it works, but not the messages.
Third case: If I do a soft reset (or switch off-on) without the SD card, and then I go into the Messages application (still without the SD card), everything is O.K., I can get and send messages and mails. Then finally I put the SD card in and everything seems still to work OK. (It seems that if I go into the messages at least once before the SD card is put in, everything goes well).
I did a test re-installing the ATI patch and also the SDHC one (btw, when installing this one, I get a message that it might not work OK because "it is designed for an older version of Windows Mobile") and the results are the same ones. I have uninstalled the SDHC patch and the same result (I have to test now if GPS/TomTom works OK without this patch or it hungs).
Any idea of what can produce the problem and of a definitive solution (apart of removing and inserting the SD card) ?
Thanks !
After soft reset it used to hung
Yes, it seems I solved it, and I tell it here for the case it can be of use for any other one....
Following a suggestion that it could be due to a corrupt file in the SD card, I looked for anything that seemed to be strange and I deleted a file ttnavigator.biz and a folder named inbox.mst........, that I assumed was related to the mail and messages.
After doing again a soft-reset, everything works O.K. and, even more, both the file and the folder has been re-created and, additionally, in the folder inbox.mst.... there is a new subfolder for the mail attached files, that wasn't in the deleted one....
It seems the problem was that the inbox..... folder or the subfolder was corrupt and having deleted it and the system recreated them everything now works correctly.
Rgds.

Does anyone know a way to install tomtom 5.21 straight from sd card on wm5, without having to install via my PC/activeysnc?
I can do it on my xda2i by just extracting the cab from the 5.21 exe file and putting that in the 2577 folder on the sd card. Works great, so if I get a device lockup and have to hard reset, I'm not going to get caught out and have to trek home for my PC just to reinstall tomtom. I just insert the SD card and everything installs itself. Sweeeeet.
But try the same on the wizard (and I guess any other wm5 device) and the install fails. I'm guessing its just a tomtom thing as their site does say you can only install using activesync. But thats so lame. It would be great if someone has found a workaround?
Install 5.1 first onto the SD card using the howto (and test). Then install 5.2. Move the new files that 5.2 CABs insist on putting in main memory (in /Program Files/Navigator, /Contacts Navigation, /TomTom) to the corresponding directories on the SD card (Note that the directory names are slightly different - keep the 5.1 names).
I've not had to test 5.2 yet, but 5.1 seems to work OK running purely from SD after a hard reset (i.e. with nothing installed to the PPC). The only thing I had to do was recreate the shortcut in the Start Menu. You might not be so lucky with the Contacts integration, but I don't use any of that.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
I've got around it by just copying across the ttn.cab file from the 5.21 exe onto the main memory of wizard and running it from there. This 1 cab file seems to install everything that the 4 cab files installed in 5.0 and 5.1.
It would still be nice if it would install straight from sd card, but at least now I don't have to install from my PC anymore - which was the main problem.
hi all...my sd card was working fine yesterday. Suddnely today, it is not being recognized/detected by my device. I have tried a soft restart several times. As well, while the device is off, if i insert the card, the display kick in. Thus, the hardward senses it, but the software won't show any refrence to it. Have any of you had this issue??
I've not had this issue,
but, does your pc recongnise it? if so copy all contents to your pc, format and then copy back checking recognition in your wiz, did you install/create anything new recently?
i have not installed anything, but i did add a ton of photos...i also was able to review those images till today. I tried the card at a photoprint shop, and the card seems intact...i do not have reader here with my pc to reformat the card.
I'm not at all computer literate, I frequently format/hard reset my things and start over, (keeps things clean, gets rid of old programe parts) so if you're lucky someone else may provide a better solution,
but, if I was in your shoes and without a card reader on my pc, I would,
a) try to access with total commander. & if that fails,
b) try to use wm5torage to empty and format the card
good luck
First, I apologize for the length of this post, but it is necessary in order to explain the problem and hopefully allow a solution to be found. I had a problem that occurred a while ago that I believed to be related to the push e-mail/xpress mail functions on my Cingular 8525. The problem was as follows:
I was encountering very slow program responses across the board one day after having made some changes to the push e-mail settings. At the time, the push e-mail didn't work, but rather, I had to resort to timed updates. The first push would work, but the log showed that all future attempts were rejected (manual retrievals worked fine).
I have a 1GB miniSD card and while trying to figure out what was causing my general slowdown in response, I noticed that the card was filling up, for no apparent reason and no files were being added. I popped the card out and put it back in and everything was fine. After every soft reset of the device, I had to go through this same procedure in order to keep the card from filling up. I eventually decided it had to be something wrong with xpress mail and I uninstalled and reinstalled it, which fixed the problem with the miniSD card filling up. Unfortunately, there was still 250MB of space on the miniSD card that was "missing".
After a tedious process of going through every file and folder on the storage card and verifying file sizes by copying files between the computer and phone (I'm sure there is an easier way, but I couldn't think of one) I found what I believe to be the culprits. On the storage card there are a number of files and folders located in Program Files, Cingular, Xpress Mail Settings folder that cannot be removed, copied, or renamed. The file and folder names are a combination of wingding type characters, gobbledy gook that kind of looks like this +z;n+-+, Iio-0!Bt, and kd0N-E.,Ca. Even the letters I have typed normally here are not the normal forms of the letters, but rather contain tilde's over them or oomlots (umlots? don't remember the spelling), or other foreign language use characters.
If I try to delete the file or folder, I get an error saying that there was a problem deleting the file named [insert file name here]. If I try to rename the file I get an error saying "A file name cannot contain any of the following characters: \/:*?"<>|" even though the name I am using for the renamed file does not contain any of those characters. In addition one of the files says it is 3.50 GB in size and another says it is 1.02 GB, which obviously isn't correct given the fact that the card is only 1GB in total size. All that to say, it appears that I have a plethora of corrupted files that I cannot get rid of.
I have tried deleting them from the computer through the connection to the phone, from the phone itself using file explorer and from the computer using a card reader. I get essentially the same errors every time.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.
Just as tedious, but have you thought of copying the good ones with the correct file structure to PC. Reformat card and then put back the good ones?
Mike
Reformatting
I will give that a try.
I’ve been using the following soft that deletes any file www.pathtoolong.com. It is not free, but it is good.
Hey everyone,
for some reason, my MiniSD card looks empty all of the sudden.
didn't do anything special.
i just see a Outlook folder, and it had 1.8GB of music and programs.
when i click memory i see 1.8GB of 2GB used.
but i just dont see all my data.
what should i do to repair it?
If you have a card reader remove card from phone and put it in there, computer should see everything, then when you put it back in the phone it ought to be good.
otherwise just remove it reset the phone and then put it back in again, that might just about do it.

Well, that didnt work.
i ran StorageTools on it, but then it just deleted the rest of the missing files and gave me the whole miniSD as empty.
so i did a hard reset and reinstalled all my software
and today it happened again
all the data is lost again
what do i do?
I have the same! Once in a while I loose files from my storagecard. I have to reinstall the programs.
I made a copy to my PC, so I can copy back if again I loose files. But I really don't know why this strange behaviour happens.
Maybe it's the card itself?
So its not even just me
anyone else had this issue? found how to solve it? i had it day after day.
do you also have the problem where the card looks like it hasent recovered the space?
It's an old problem. If you use search, it turns up few dozens.
Are you using WM6 or WM5? WM6 reportedly has better driver support for SD(HC).
I'm using WM5.
2GB cards arnt SDHC?
i tried searching but didnt find anything that looks like that problem.
want to help me out with a link?
I have this file loosing problem with WM6 and WM5, but not so often, maybe once or twice a month.
Hmm... it was reported that WM6 would solve this problem but it turned out that it's not true.
Perhaps you guys should try the application called sdsentry, which would save your day.
happened to me a few days ago.. something to do with losing power and killing the file allocation table (or something like that).. I used a program called 'GetDataBack for FAT' and got almost everything back.
MiniSD Data dissapearing workaround
1. Stop ALL programs running from miniSD (plugins, background progs, etc.)
2. Trinity On, remove miniSD card.
3. Soft reset Trinity.
4. Using File Explorer (since this could be the only option available), DELETE the "STORAGE CARD" directory.
4. POWER OFF Trinity.
5. Insert miniSD card
6. POWER ON, voila!
Use it at your own risk, it worked for me just fine.
For Admin: Since thius is a pretty common issue for Trinity owners it may be a good idea to make the message STICKY.
Cheers, Fanelul
Yeah this is a pretty common problem. I had a patriot 2gb nonSDHC card once which had this problem, recurred all the time, changed to kingston and never had it again.
This is probably gonna be your best choice unfortunately.
I had the same issue some days ago with my Trascend 2GB , that's what I did:
1- via a card reader I saved all data in the minisd to a tempdir on my desktop
2- reformatted minisd in FAT
3- copyed all files again from the tempdir to the minisd and reinserted in my Trinity
4- All my files are back again
This help only if you can see your files on the desktop via the card reader..obviously..
Bye

fanelul,
how can you delete the "STORAGE CARD" directory since you removed the miniSD card before? As you know when you remove the card the directory disappear from file explorer list..
Bye
I've had this problem twice.
What I did when data diasppears was:
1) soft reset
2) use the file explorer of ppc
3) you should see 'storage card' AND 'storage card2'
4) delete 'storage card' and leave 'storage card2' alone
5) soft reset
6) you should get everything back whe the ppc reads 'storage card2' as the offset storage card when it changes back to 'storage card' minus the '2'
Hope this helps many.
isnt the case
Hey, this isnt the case, sorry.
i dont have Storage card2.
anyway, i just got this thing again
this time i lost all the folders on the miniSD
but the files that were flat on the miniSD are still there
i think ill try buying a new miniSD card.
if that dosnt work ill send the Trinity for repairs.
Hi,
I've same problem since I use a PNY 2 Go sd card.
To solve it quickly I switch off the screen (hard button on the right top), remove and replace mini SD, and it's ok.
No problem with my 1 go....
After my christmas trip I'll replace Wester_Europe map by French_map and burn my 2go card....
I had a similar problem too. But not all the data disappeared from my minisd.
I used to store images taken from the camera in the rootSD/MyDocuments/images.
My Trinity deleted ALL the data inside the MyDocuments directory, and the data inside Windows directory.
This happened after a soft reset. My Trinity was frozen and i had to soft reset through the lower button.
When it turned on again didn't find any of the programs installed.
I had a 4g microsdhc card in the xv6800. Verizon btw.
Had a couple larger programs installed to the storage card.
Decided to upgrade a bit and got 8g microsdhc. Turned off
ppc, copied 4g's files to laptop, then copied to 8g.
Tried using Garmin gps, problem with that as I assume card id
has changed. Couple other card id generated serials did not want
to work either.
So I remove everything from storage, cept for some personal files
etc... And in the process of removing I came up with the brilliant
idea, hmm... new storage card, might as well try out the hard reset
feature and start fresh.
At the beginning everything was fine. I restored pim data with Sprite,
and when I installed Sprite, I installed to the storage card. Install went fine
but after the soft reset, its got default icon, and don't work. So I am thinking, ok, maybe its gotta be installed to the device. Yep that worked.
So I installed some other apps I thought should also go to the device, and they worked as well.
Came to some larger apps, Garmin first, and it works. But it's the only one
that works when I install to the storage card. Any app I have tried to install
to the storage card, after soft reset, has default icon, and won't open.
I searched thru the storage card, win folder, programs folder, my documents just in case, and they are all empty. and yes I am browsing with show all files checked.
Soz its prolly something real simple that I am overlooking. All I know is the
programs that I had installed to the storage card i assume aren't actually installing, cause there are no files, but same program will install to the device
and run/work.
Any takers want to point out my stupidity for me? What I doing/did wrong?
I really have NO clue what the problem is,
BUT,
I had an odd problem with files lost on my 4G card. I stuck it into a good card reader and plugged it into my laptop. I did a 'chkdsk' on it (checked it for errors) and it found a number of lost clusters. I let it repair those, and all was well.
Actually, I believe that when I saw the errors, I copied everything off the card and just reformatted it.
Don't forget the 'safe to remove' button on the PC.
thank ya very much.
done and done and working now.
formatted it using disc management in xp.
all good now.
thanks for pointing out my stupidity.
i forgot this is windows, when in doubt...format. lol
