sd mini not working - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

hi all...my sd card was working fine yesterday. Suddnely today, it is not being recognized/detected by my device. I have tried a soft restart several times. As well, while the device is off, if i insert the card, the display kick in. Thus, the hardward senses it, but the software won't show any refrence to it. Have any of you had this issue??

I've not had this issue,
but, does your pc recongnise it? if so copy all contents to your pc, format and then copy back checking recognition in your wiz, did you install/create anything new recently?

i have not installed anything, but i did add a ton of photos...i also was able to review those images till today. I tried the card at a photoprint shop, and the card seems intact...i do not have reader here with my pc to reformat the card.

I'm not at all computer literate, I frequently format/hard reset my things and start over, (keeps things clean, gets rid of old programe parts) so if you're lucky someone else may provide a better solution,
but, if I was in your shoes and without a card reader on my pc, I would,
a) try to access with total commander. & if that fails,
b) try to use wm5torage to empty and format the card
good luck

Storage Card Issue

I had a 4g microsdhc card in the xv6800. Verizon btw.
Had a couple larger programs installed to the storage card.
Decided to upgrade a bit and got 8g microsdhc. Turned off
ppc, copied 4g's files to laptop, then copied to 8g.
Tried using Garmin gps, problem with that as I assume card id
has changed. Couple other card id generated serials did not want
to work either.
So I remove everything from storage, cept for some personal files
etc... And in the process of removing I came up with the brilliant
idea, hmm... new storage card, might as well try out the hard reset
feature and start fresh.
At the beginning everything was fine. I restored pim data with Sprite,
and when I installed Sprite, I installed to the storage card. Install went fine
but after the soft reset, its got default icon, and don't work. So I am thinking, ok, maybe its gotta be installed to the device. Yep that worked.
So I installed some other apps I thought should also go to the device, and they worked as well.
Came to some larger apps, Garmin first, and it works. But it's the only one
that works when I install to the storage card. Any app I have tried to install
to the storage card, after soft reset, has default icon, and won't open.
I searched thru the storage card, win folder, programs folder, my documents just in case, and they are all empty. and yes I am browsing with show all files checked.
Soz its prolly something real simple that I am overlooking. All I know is the
programs that I had installed to the storage card i assume aren't actually installing, cause there are no files, but same program will install to the device
and run/work.
Any takers want to point out my stupidity for me? What I doing/did wrong?
I really have NO clue what the problem is,
BUT,
I had an odd problem with files lost on my 4G card. I stuck it into a good card reader and plugged it into my laptop. I did a 'chkdsk' on it (checked it for errors) and it found a number of lost clusters. I let it repair those, and all was well.
Actually, I believe that when I saw the errors, I copied everything off the card and just reformatted it.
Don't forget the 'safe to remove' button on the PC.
thank ya very much.
done and done and working now.
formatted it using disc management in xp.
all good now.
thanks for pointing out my stupidity.
i forgot this is windows, when in doubt...format. lol

Corrupted SD Card

Hi,
What happened
Yesterday when I had more time I started installing some applications on my HTC Touch HD.
I installed:
1).NET Framework 3.5
2) Advanced Configuration
3) Total Commander
4) Gyrator 2
I had already installed IGO 8 a few months ago.
After installing Advanced configuration I tested the IGO and it was working, I had no problem.
However after I installed Gyrator 2 and with Gyrator 2 on I tried to start Igo8, the IGO8 didn't want to start. After further attempts and investigation I came to the conclusion that the SD Card is corrupted.
Symptoms of the SD Card(original one that came in the box with the device):
1)While reading it from PC only the root directory of the card is visible with all the folders inside but I can access only one folder out of 15. for the others I get an error, cannot read from the device...
2) From the HTC touch HD I can even enter all the folders but while accessing some files, not all of them, I get errors saying that the files could not be opened.
3) I had to do many restarts so only two times the first screen that you see after you power-on the device is the "Smart mobility" and then after a few seconds you get the details of the ROM and two other rows in the bottom right corner. So for two times the "Smart mobility was not centered" as well as the bottom right corrner data they were not at their position. However now after 5-10 more power-on power-off manipulation the first screen seems to be ok.
Possible causes as I see it are two:
1) Gyrator 2 and IGO8 do not lik eache other very much, and some how when IGO8 started maybe the orientation of the screen just changed from portrait to landscape. It is just a theory, as I'm not an expert I cannot say if it's correct or not.
2) After installing the Gyrator2 I have somehow unplugged the USB cable while the computer might still have had a connection to the PC. That's ulikelley because I allways do the "Remove USB device" before unplugging, but I did it so many times that I do not remember exactly that time. However I trust my instincts even though I cannot exclude the possibility of an error.
The cause 2) might be realated as well with the usual problem of choosing the action needed when you connect he HTC Touh HD trough the USB cable. It happened many times that an option is preselected(read the Storage card) but I want to actually synchronise the device with ActiveSync, so initially the PC opens the SD card as an external drive and then after I click on the phone to choose the ActiveSync connection it closes the external drive and makes the connection.
Is there a better way to choose between the modes of connectivity to PC, taking into account that when you want to install some software on the device you have to either copy the file on the device itself and start it there or install it on the PC and use ActiveSync to install it as well on the device.
My main question is related with the helthcheck of my HTC Touch HD.
a) Is there a risk that the internal built in flash storage of the device is corrputed as well? I have checked all the files almost with no problems of accessing any of them. It seems ok to me. The only thing that worries me a bit is the problem with the splash screen as I explained it under possible cause 2) which now doesn't seem to appear anymore.
b) is there any other part that I should verify to make sure that my device is ok.
c) Less important, if you could help me find out what happened to make sure that I won'trepeat it again and break the next SD Card.
d) Can I recover/repair the SD Card itself, the data that I had on were not very important I have them on my PC in proportion of 90%. I downloaded some tool from SanDisk called usb-test-tool.exe but it fails to see the card(I think the tool is not the right one), or I shouldn't even bother because there is a risk of having problems afterwards.
Most probably I'll have to buy another SDMicroCard I'll try to buy the same brand maybe for 16GB, I do not know the prices yet.
Sorry for the long pot, but I wanted to give allt he details.
Thanks for your support!
And now most probably I'll have to uninstall the applications that were installed on the SDCard, I hope it will work out and there will be no left-overs in registries or on the filesystem.
coincidence
well. Mine got bricked too yesterday. it was a 16GB sd-card. Only my phone can access it and the data is gone. Data was firts messed up (like chaotic named folders and files) and then disappeared. I can create new folders and files there but it is full of lost chains and clusters (found by mobile apps) and reports the same free space as before (40%) but there are no content visible. When I connect it to laptop either as an disk drive from mobile or directly with sd-adapter I get high cpu usage of interrupts and a frozen usb managment and need to restart.

Same happened to me with my 16gb Sandisk card.
Card reader said is was write protected and could not format using SDFormatter.
Solution after a search found on the Raphael forum was to download http://www.cnetx.com/format/download.asp and install to main memory.
Success !
Then I could read it and formatted again with SDFormatter
Hope this helps

Weird Mini SD Problem - svchost

i have a weird problem with my mini sd card. Every time i format, there is always two files that come up, autorun and svchost. The text in autorun is:
[autorun]
shell=verb
open=svchost.exe
action=Open folder to view files
shell\open=Open
icon=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll,4
no matter what i do, it keeps coming up. Even done a hard reset but still same problem.
Noticed those files in sd card couple days ago.
also the only thing so far i noticed it affects is that you cannot open removable device from my computer, says it cannot open it, but it opens when you go thru start->run.
anyone else have this problem and know a solution
thanks
Do you format the card with your computer? The svchost file with autorun.exe are often used by viruses on a Windows Computer. Try to scan your pc. Maybe this solves the problem.

Having a nightmare trying to sync anything, is there a solution?

This is a disaster, I am using W7 64 and a Lumia 620. When I use the desktop app as soon as I open it I get an error that it has stopped responding. If I go into Windows explorer the phone is shown in there however it doesn't show the SD card only the phone. The phone itself shows the contents of my SD card so I have no way of putting anything on my SD card.
I can't edit any of the music etc on the SD card and the meta data is all totally wrong for some reason.
I have uninstalled the desktop app and reinstalled but it made no difference. Anyone else having this issue?
Get an SD card reader and it should do the job
I know this isn't the answer u were looking 4, but it is the easiest solution. The other 1 is to reinstall windows on ur computer.
Check your directories in zune settings. My WP7 phone does not have a SD card, but I was having trouble syncing and it was because I had directories in my setup that no longer existed. I forget where though. Don't have zune on my work PC, but if i remember when I get home I will check and let you know.

[Q] Need Help. Phone Bricked

I was following this guide to root, install a custom recovery, and then flash a ROM onto my phone. I rooted successfully and created a back up. I then copied the backup onto my external sd card. I then put the custom rom onto my sd card and entered recovery mode on CWM. I wiped my device and then realized that the custom rom was the incorrect file. I then went to restore and it gave me an error md5 mismatch. I then went to restore of external sd card and it said it could not find the directory. I then went to restart phone and CWM said I was not rooted anymore and asked if I wanted root access and I hit yes.
My phone will not start and just remains in the Samsung loading screen with an unlocked graphic with the words "custom" under it. I am able to get back into CWM recovery but nothing else seems to work. I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks

You can either use a MicroSD to SD adpater and the computer's card reader to copy a ROM over and flash it, or ODIN back to stock, and start over.

Much better. Was that so hard? Thank you for details.

Any ideas why it cannot find directory when I try to restore from my external sd card.

Clueless here. Made a post about it.
I just discovered today more than just myself are unable to plug the handset into a computer to exchange files. I can get things off the phone onto the computer, but not vice versa.
Also the handset itself is fussy when it comes to viewing it's own external SD card. It would seem it doesn't take much for it to disappear, once in recovery.

This phone does not support mass USB storage. It uses MTP and PTP protocols. This information is available in several threads in the forum. Now, of course, even with MTP and PTP you should be able to still transfer files from a PC to the Ext. SD card considering you have the correct drivers. Perhaps your SD card isn't playing nice with your phone? Have you tried removing the card from your phone and transferring files to it dierectly from you PC via SD slot or card reader? Have you tried other brands? I find Samsung cards work best, but that is just me, This will help to see if it is the phone (possibly cable) or the card that is having issues.
Also, you can check this out. It supposedly enables Mass USB storage for this phone...though it still says it doesn't work for the Ext. SD card. I have never tried it, so if you do it is at your own risk but maybe it will help? Good luck.

The app says it is for the SIII, but people have reported it as working with the S4 as well.
thank you

I am too happy to experiment like that. The AT&T S4 running GoldenEye with no add ons is the best darn handset I've ever enjoyed. I love being rid of the bloatware. I don't miss it a bit. I will fuss around with the SD interface as I do have resources like you mentioned, I can try a different chip. I didn't consider that a bad chip would cause the computer to consider the entire handset as "read only", yet you suggest it's possible?

Anything is possible and it would be a simple way to maybe help identify where the problem lies. Better yet, take your sd card out of your phone and try a transfer. That will let you know if it has anything to do with it. If it still doesn't work, it more than likely has nothing to do with the SD card.
Can you transfer files from your External SD card to your phones internal SD memory and the other way around (via a file manager on your phone)?
If you can, I can't see how it would be a "read' only problem.

I should unhook my phone from the 3.5mm jack and look into this. As I type, my S4 is piping in my playlist to provide the wife and I musical background for our activities. I remember using "Root Explorer" recently to delete a nandroid backup, and to move said playlist off the SD card into Phone memory. The "write protected" error showed up directly after building this playlist, using the computer to organize it. It's brand new, and as a good troubleshooter, we always look at the last thing you did different. I used the "windows explorer" to edit my playlist on the phone while it was plugged up together.
It's turning out to be a bigger deal than just myself, and I should pursue your recommendation for testing and reports, but it's not broken enough to fix and it's Sunday night, and the music is more important at this juncture.
Edit:
I powered down and then removed the Micro SD, and when I powered back up, it showed that cool padlock icon with the label "Custom" screen during boot up. I hadn't seen that screen on boot up since I used Casual to get a TWRP recovery.
I tethered the handset to the Desktop and opened the windows explorer. Obviously it just showed phone this time, instead of phone and card. I tested copying files and it worked fine, the "write protected" error was gone.
I unhooked, powered down, put the micro SD card back in, powered up and noted the boot up screen was back to normal. Tethered up again and voila! Files can be written to the phone and or the card and no more "write protected" error.
Funny little fluke. Problem solved. Curiosity remains.
