Hi all
I am using my XDA IIi on Vodafone but when i connect to GPRS the first time it works perfectly but if I reconnect to the GPRS service either hours or days later it says the i cant connect to "internet" which is the APN name for mobile web on vodafone.
The only way to rectify this is is to switch flight mode on and off again.
Has anyone else noticed this and if so have they found a solution?
Thanks
Gordon
Common problem I'm afraid. Happens with the O2 or i-mate ROM for me, and many others.
Can only hope they fix it soon.
Hmmmm thats not good news. Its also quite interesting as it didnt used to do that.
Is this a problem that drifts in and out or just one that develops and then you are stuck with. Ive had my IIi since march and its only started doing this in the last couple of weeks.
Hopefully a fix will come out eventually for it are any of the roms, imate etc any better?
Cheers
G!
Well I prefer the i-mate ROM images as they aren't network branded, but they are all pretty much the same past the customisations, Microsoft release the updates, HTC customise it, and the company that brands the particular device customises it.
Thanks for the info.
Are the imate roms on the ftp somewhere? I couldnt find them. I have the new O2 rom that someone has added radio 1.3 to running at the moment but it did not fix the problem.
Cheers
G!
I've tried following the main upgrade thread and think I've found a lot of these, but wanted to hear from 8125 users who have upgraded on their experiences. Are there any gotchas? Is this a worthwhile upgrade? Is there anything that I should know before attempting the upgrade?
Thanks for all of your help.

Pete:
I upgraded a device, and immediately went back to the Cingular rom. The only thing worth using (in theory) was the push mail and the updated radio rom. The radio rom 2.07 worked great with the 8125, but push mail did not work even after tweaking. Also, WIFI did not work. I would advise to wait until April when CIngular says it is releasing the push mail update for the 8125.

CINGULAR ROM
How did you go back from the IMATE ROM to the original CINGULAR ROM?
Thank you
There are some people who have had problems with wifi, but I have not had any network I can't connect to thus far and Ihave been using 2.16.9.1 since the night it was found over a week ago. I have had no issues except when I installed some of Cingular's EXTRom cab files. I have not tried push mail, but everything is responsive and working.

Use the aWizard Tool.. I've switched Roms several times and even restored the splash screen.
Only thing I can't o is change the IPL/SPL.
SWITCHING BACK
Is it possible for you to outline detailed steps? I have the Cingular ROM and external ROM only from the XDA DEVELOPERS site, I did not back up my original ROM and I now have latest IMATE ROM
Thanks
I can't believe the difference in the ROMs. The cingular rom was dog slow. Even with all the registry hacks and processor boost. The Imate rom is MUCH faster and I haven't even pimped my ppc yet. I was ready to get rid of the cingular device until now. Push works, just follow the directions in the forum!
Re: Cingular 8125 - upgrade to latest KJAM ROM - issues/gotc
Hi,
I guess i have to share my experiance here. I bought Cingular 8125 a month ago and this is my first PPC phone. I liked the features a lot and was generally happy with my purchase.
One thing i hate about my phone and was driving me nuts was that i was not able to connect to WiFi easily, even if i was standing beside my rounter it usually take literaly 4-8 mins to connect to it and even after connect it keep on losing it. I was hating it so i started looking on internet to search a cure for my problem. Then i saw some sites with ROM upgrades for these phones. It seemed interesting to me so i started researching this. After a week or so i stumbeled upon this site and started reading all these threads about upgrading.
I was hesitent to actually go ahead and flash my device since i knew that these ROMs are not for my phone model. So i started with trying some tweaks which are scattered all over the place. I must admit they all help in improving my machine.
Well reading on and on for about 2 weeks i had enough information and courage to actually try the ROM flashing. By this time I know all the backup mathods listed here, so to make sure i have everything backed up i wanted to use all those mathods. For one of them i needed to have a miniSD card so i started research on it and finally ordered ATP ProMax 1GB miniSD Card, i seleted this because to my knowladge this is the fastest 1GB miniSD card available. Okay now i was ready for the ROM flashing. First i took the backup to SD card using wizBackup. Then i unlocked my phone using aWizard which also took the backup. Then i went ahead and installed the i-mate ROM.
Keeping all the research in mind i did not installed the Ext ROM and soft reset my phone as soon as the Select Carrier screen came up. After my machine came back on again, and i started using it and man i said WOW when it connected to WiFi is less than 5 seconds!!! It was very quick on connecting to it and seemed a lot faster while browsing. My whole experiance of using the phone was very pleasent. Also one more significant thing i noticed was my phone has better signal strength.
While i was playing with the new version for 2-3 days the Qtek version came out. Without spending even a minute i flashed to that rom and again i did not installed the Ext ROM and i soft reset my phone when the message came up that your phone will be customized in 3 sec.
Well now i have this ROM for about 2 weeks and i'm very happy with it. I think this is the best thing i have done to my phone. I have no lock ups, perfectly working WiFi and GPRS. Oh i forgot, i configured my GPRS manually after both flashing. I only ran the cab file from the orginal Cingular backup which changed the GPRS icon from G to E.
Well, anyone out there waiting to upgrade their phone, my advice is go ahead, you will love it!
Thanks,
Khawar
Just so people know, I'm using the stock Cingular 8125 ROM and have NEVER had a lock-up, have perfectly working WiFi and GPRS, battery life is great, the thing comes from soft-reset to ready to use in 45 seconds flat, everything works 110%.
I don't have push email but I also don't need push email.
You can definitely upgrade if you want but I just can't figure out why I would want to! 8)
Just wanted to throw in my two cents on this topic.
I felt the same way as mobilehavoc at first. The original Cingular ROM worked great, but I am the type of person who likes to have the latest and greatest. So I got the courage one afternoon and did the upgrade to the I-Mate ROM.
The I-Mate ROM has worked amazing to say the least on my 8125. Probably the biggest improvement for me is the interference with speakers is completely gone. With the cingular rom there would always be a buzz on my speakers at work and in the car when data was sent/received but with the new radio rom this is completely gone. Also the windows media player actually remembers the last song you were on. The battery life and speed of the device has probably doubled as well.
Its your decision to upgrade, but I am completely happy with upgrading my 8125. And as for mobilehavoc, if you think your 8125 is working great now wait till you upgrade.

Good to hear. I'm a techno-geek as well so I love having the latest and greatest but I also don't want to mess with something that works perfectly.
I'm also lazy don't want to have to resync everything, reinstall everything, retweak, recustomize. I think my laziness is apparent everywhere - my desktop PC is running Windows XP which was originally installed 4 years ago and is running *knock on wood* perfectly...I know several people like to reload XP regularly.
Guess I'm just different.
YAY i may have to do this when i get mine tommorow hopefully fedex doesn't let me down from what i heard they have
First Post
I have had my 8125 for a week - and have been nothing but impressed. The speed, call quality, functionality have all been great. Just upgraded the rom (I am never satisfied and am always *?^&ing around with things that work fine), and from what I have seen the past 2 hours, things only get better.
is there an app or something where i can just back up all my contacts and put them back on the phone after i flash with a different rom?
MMS working?
To anybody who has loaded a new ROM on a Cingular 8125, did you get MMS working with the new ROM? That (and the seemingly random occurence of Wifi not working for some) is the only thing stopping me upgrading mine when it arrives in the next week or so.
mick.
WiFi works great as long as you do not install a particularly nasty cab from the original Cingular EXT rom. That cab disables WiFi due to an incompatable DLL and is called Singed_gprsstall_1228.sa.cab. As far as MMS goes, the Qtek rom installs MMS but you will need to go in and add Cingular specific server information to get it up and running. Sorry, but I don't use MMS so I don't know that information. Also, you will want to install Signed_Edge_Icon.sa.CAB if you want the GPRS indicator to change to a large "E" when its edge connected.

Thanks - out of interest, which ROM build are you running?
I've got the production Qtek AKU2 rom installed:
ROM version 2.17.7.2 WWE
Radio version: 2.07.10
After installing, I simply let the builtin extended rom cabs run then installed the Edge Icon fix cab from the original Cingular ext rom. Qtek installs a minimum set of cabs including MMS support. The Edge enable cab from the Cingular ext rom can be found in the Qtek thread in the Wizard updating etc. forum. I posted it there as an attachment.
HTH
I have 8125 running Qtek's AKU2 ROM (2.17.7.2 WWE) that was just released. No problem at all so far. Everything works perfectly. Speed and reliability of the device have improved since then. I stored a lot of calendar items and contacts plus emails syncs. I do recommend the upgrade. Original Cingular ROM isn't fast enough with all the contents that I have.
Agreed. It's pretty much a must-do upgrade IMO. However...
I just wish I could find a way to set the default SIP to the block recognizer... The original reghack is no longer effective.
Then there's that damn battery icon.....
I've recently discovered that T-mobile do in fact provide the SPB GPRS Data Monitor Tools for their Vario 2 device. It comes on the application CD and you have to install it yourself.
Unfortunately, my own attempts at this have been unsuccessful. I keep getting a message telling me I need to upgrade my ROM. Rather strange considering no other official ROM has been released for this model yet.
Anyway, I've been fighting with it for a number of days and eventually contacted T-mobile customer service. I'm though to the Technical Escalations team who are looking into it. However, they can't replicate the issue.
What I'd like to know is has anyone else been successful at installing this application on their Vario 2?
ROM 1.21.110.3
Date 06/19/06
I've got it installed on my mda vario II with the same rom as you and had no issues.

Thanks everyone. Hmm.. good question. Knowing how flaky ActiveSync can be, I did upgrade it straight away. I'm running the latest 4.2. What about you guys?
Well.. I thought I'd have a crack at trying Activesync 4.5
That turns out to perhaps not being the wisest move. As is typical of wonderful Microsoft I've been having all sorts of games with the it. I ended up having to hard reset my Vario 2 again because it was having trouble synching.
Anyway, got it working finally and the result? Even better.. now when I attempt to run the installer it doesn't even show me the GPRS monitor as an optional install! Hah.. gets better and better..
Maybe this only works on ealier versions of Activesync - prior to 4.2? I'm going to have another crack over the weekend on my home PC. I might also roll back Activesync to 3.7 to see if that works any better.
HAHA!! Ok!! Further to above I thought what the heck, fired up the installer again and chose to 'repair' rather than 'modify' to install a new application. Lo and behold it went ahead and attempted to install the GPRS monitor. Result - Success! I now have this working. Go figure!
Hello,
I just bought a used qtek 9100 two weeks ago and am now starting to have problems. The previous owner installed windows mobile 6 underground edition, as well as some other updates. Currently the phone is freezing almost once a day, in which I have to take the battery out to reboot. If anyone can help me any suggestions would be greatly apptrietiated. I thought about trying to go back to the original wm5 or upgrading to wm6 does anyone know if that would work?
Thanks for any and all help

Have you tried doing a hard reset and then load it back up with your apps? This might clear a bad registry issue. Also the problem could be a 3rd party app that doesn't work well on WM6.
I would suggest you do move back to an original rom if you are having problems. Then you can look at playing with custom roms later when you get a feel for the device. Key thing is you want to get it stable.
Read the following on how to Flash roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
Since you are already running a WM6, its likely (if this is a G3) that you are CID Unlocked already (if you are a G4 than its likely you are not CID Unlocked).
You could try a newer WM6 (like XPlore 2.0 or Faria Vanilla from his kitchen) both of which are found in the Wizard WM6 board located here. But I think I'd recommend you just go back to the official carrier rom first.
Thank you
When you say to go back to the original software, where can I get that? I came accross a update on the t-mobile site that said it would remove all data stored on device, is this what you are talking about? I would hate to do something to make this phone incapacitated.
Also has anyone seen the windows mobile vista for a ppc? Does anyone know where to get it? Once I fixe this problem I would like to upgrade to that, unless there is something wrong with it.
Thanks for all your help

On PPC devices, if you flash a new rom (upgrade, downgrade) it wipes everything on the phone in memory. Sorry but no way around that. After doing it a few times you learn what to keep on your SD card, and you get pretty good at reinstalling stuff fairly quickly (but even then, I plan on about 2 hours of downtime when I'm going to flash my phone. About 15 mins to get some backups (so I can get back to where I was if the new rom doesn't work out), 30 mins to flash an official rom and flash the new rom, reflash the radio to the one I want. Then a good hour to set all of my apps back up (that part of the time is getting shorter).

There is no Mobile Vista. There is WIndows Mobile 6 and there are Vista style themes for it (heck there are Vista themes for WM5 for that matter).
So back to your original issue... You need to plan on wiping this device one way or another due to the current issues you are having (IMO). So if you want to stay with the Underground version of WM6, then just do a Hard Reset, and then set the phone back up. Otherwise, you need to look at getting the original rom for yoru phone (you can find these on the carrier's websites usually in the support/downloads area) or upgrading to some other custom rom.
Again, read the thread I gave you previously. You really need to read up on how this stuff works before you just start looking at flashing a new rom (official roms are pretty straight forward if you stay with the rom meant for your phone).
Now a different problem
OK, now im trying to get the phone back to the original settings from the company, but am having difficulty. I ran the update from t-mobile and it keeps saying there is a communication error. Im not sure if the previous owner had t-mobile or what carrier he used does this matter?
is there a way to un-grade the phone without a pc?
Im really having a hard time with this, ive been trying for around 4 hours to fix this issue without luck, someone please help im about to start using heavy drugs. Not really but you get the gist of it.
Thanks
I have an SPV M700 (HTC P3600).
I have the following problems with it:
Speaker phone is rubbish, got it set up in the cradle in my car and can hardly hear the person i am talking too. Anyone agree?
GPS!!!!!! TomTom will not work and is driving me know where except slowly insane. Same problem as other post, no mention of GPS in menus and tomtom just says No GPS device! Other post talked about ROMs? Sorry i have no idea what these are or how to install them. Any chance of someone giving me a quick dummies guide. It seems to work for other person having the exact prob.
Most internet pages don't come out too well, expected better from the IE windows mobile. Not used it before, you see.
Purchased unlocking off ebay, don't think its worked. Is there a link to unlocking on this forum?? Will i loose my Orange menu and colours when unlocked.
Keyboard. When i tried this phone out in the shop the keyboard was like a phone pad (press 2 twice for letter B) but can't find on mine, just normal one, transcriber etc??
PLEASE PLEASE spend a minute helping me. I am looking at the MDA compact III on t-mobile but just been told tomtom won't work on it by them. Don't know what speaker phone is like on it either.
Kind regards
George

George Nottingham...... Relax, get a brew, take a breath..........
First a question.... have you read all that there is here.... and which version of Tom Tom are you trying to run, you need 6.03 an "most" of the problems go away other wise....... go read this lot:-

OR
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305250
after reading AT LEAST the first post of each, upgrade the rom, there is an Orange .cab (file thinggy) knockig about to put all your orange setting and front page back on after sorting out the software and getting TT running.
As for the speaker phone... never been happy with mine, but use SoreTooth in stead
More tea and biscuits
Thanks deech for your quick reply. All that talk of tea and relaxing really worked!
Ok i have just checked the tomtom version and is it 6.00. Never i have been so happy that i have out of date software! Only concern is i tried to run Orange's Sat Nav (yes they have there own sat nav that comes sort of free, funny thing is when i rang them up they didn't know they did!). Anyway that didn't pick up a GPS signal either, ummmmm.
What is SoreTooth? Searched for it but can't find anything.
Any luck with my other two moans:

I've been looking around the site, it look great. No idea what anything means! I'll learn, I guess.
think the keyboard thing i was banging on about is called Phone Pad?
I wonder if i can get WM6 on my orange spv m700....
I can work out how to bluetooth pictures to my mac. Oh no thats another thing to worry about, syncing with my mac! The missing sync looks good?
This is stressful. Remember what deech said George, make a brew!
ahh ummm right.... missed the other moans.........
Right Oranges own Tom Tom thing FORGET IT, get real and proper Tom Tom (from wherever ) It's limited and trial and well frankly not worth the effort.
The Phone pad thing... get PhonePad International (search round these fora) it's here
As for the unlocking....... search round here for CID and ... summat else Unlocking. No if you just unlock, then you wont loose the Orange Branding.. however why you would want that is beyond me... but hey ho.
In Tom Tom have you checked the gps receiver?..... Set it to Other NEMA and com 9 and baud rate... well anything you want from what I can see.
In TTT6.03 there is anew option... "Use Built in Reciever" and after that it ermmmm just works.......
Think I got it all now......... right time for some tea here too
And sorry for the red herring.... soretooth = Bluetooth... can be troublesome on occasion

Yes you can, follow the posts I gave earlier and robert will be your mothers brother, I did it, just remeber back up any "special" ring tones, and phone book etc etc, and afterwards grab the Orangesettings.cob, to put the mms gprs etc all back in place
Can't beleive i fell for that! I gave sorethooth a proper search as well. what a plonka. I think it comes with being a novice to all this, it takes over your life a bit and your mind only thinks about tomtom v6!
Ok cheers agian for your help deech, much appreciated.
Just one more thing if you will be so kind.
Now you have equiped me with all the links to keep me up till the weekend, i think i want to hard reset my phone. Didn't like the ebay unlocking thing and hope its hasn't buggered it up. Thinking i could start fresh? Good idea. Maybe just a factory reset?
G
's upto you or just re-flash it and have done with it, tbh I have no experience with unlocking these... now Nokias onthe other hand
Dont think you'll hurt it by doing a Hard Reset, however I dont know if it'll re-lock the phone or what, might be one for a seperate thread?
Hi macmacman- you still need to slow down!
I'd actually go against the grain here and say don't consider flashing your ROM until you are decently competent with Windows Mobile. There isn't a great deal of difference, and the M700 comes with a late version of WM5.
Why did you need to unlock? Are you going to use a different SIM card in it? Some unlockers actually work by replacing the Radio part of the ROM, and some of those are NOT GPS enabled. Go into Settings/System/Device Information and check the Radio version- it must end in .11 for GPS to be enabled. All stock Orange M700's come with GPS enabled. If yours is incorrect you must install un updated Radio stack.
As Deech says, set TTN to either Built-In, or Other NMEA using COM9 and 57600 Baud, then GO OUTSIDE WITH A CLEAR VIEW OF THE SKY to obtain a first fix- it will take up to 10 minutes the 1st time. If TTN has detected your GPS, the status line under the map display will say 'Waiting for Valid GPS Signal' - if you see that you just need to wait till it amalgamates all the sat signals. If you still see 'No GPS Device', then you either have a faulty device, or the Radio ROM isn't working properly.
Either case would be a cause for replacement by Orange- another reason not to flash the ROM, because by doing so you invalidate the warranty.
Keep trying- its worth it!
[Edit- Oh and T-Mob are talking bolox- any WM5 device can run any WM5 program. But, the Compact III is an inferior device- no WiFi, slower processor, and MicroSD card as opposed to MiniSD. Micro cards are slower, and more prone to file system errors]

A hard reset can be good to clear unwanted operator customisations, especially if you reset before the Operator Customisations start, but with the Orange M700, this can lead to loss of some services, especially Orange World, which is built into the main ROM and Extended ROM. Disabling the horrible Orange Today application is no bad thing though!
Generally once a device is unlocked, it will remain that way through hard resets and even ROM updates, but there are different unlocking methods:
SIM unlock just allows a different operators SIM card to be used (Orange and T-Mo both SIM lock their WM phones)
CID unlock allows other ROM versions to be installed (ie if an Orange device is not CID unlocked, you can only use Orange ROM's)
SPL unlocking changes the Bootloader (akin to the BIOS) to allow any valid ROM to be loaded.
All the Unlock and ROM tools are availiable via the Trinity Wiki on this site- too late for you, but don't go near the Ebay ones as you don't know what you are getting
Ok i have checked my Radio version under Device information and it says 1.16.00.00 so you right that doesn't end in .11 and so my GPS doesn't work. So i need to install un updated Radio stack.
Like you said NeilM the m700 come with .11 so something has changes this? Could have been that dodgy ebay unlocking software? I bet orange will reject my devise if i send it back for that reason!! damn it.
I am thinking of going onto t-mobile for the web and walk package. Actually i don't like the orange menu so don't care if i loose that too.
So i just need to install un updated Radio stack and so a SIM unlock. easier said then done?
Cheers NeilN and deech for your help so far. George
Yes- your 'dodgy' unlock software has corrupted the radio stack.
You first need to 'super CID' your device to allow a new Radio ROM to be added (though as your current radio is non standard this has probably already happened);
Head to This Thread which has links halfway down the 1st page to a CID Unlocker, and Radio 1.41 upgrade.
That ought to work, but make sure to follow ALL the instructions!
Ok I have hard reset my phone, so i am now back to where i started and hopefully there is no trace of my dodgy ebay unlocking rubbish?
First thing i did after resetting is check my Radio version under Device information and it still says 1.16.00.00! That must mean it was shipped to me like that.
Anyway i need to change that to .11 so i have gone to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305250
and downloaded the 2) Update GSM: GSM_1.41.00.11
Is the right? Sorry for being a dullard if wrong.
Anyway i downloaded it put it in a new folder on my devise then went to it on my devise and it said this is not a valid pocket pc app!
Have i got the wrong file?
No sorry- hard resetting DOES NOT go back to how it was supplied- it goes back to the latest ROM flash, be it the Radio or OS, so you are stuck with the dodgy radio stack until you upgrade it.
I don't know the specifics of the Radio ROM you have downloaded, but 1.41 is the current latest.
The file MUST BE RUN from the PC, with Activesync connected. If your device is correctly unlocked, then it will load into the PPC via A/S and initiate the update process. In the course of that, A/S will stop, and a generic USB connection established.
At that point you may get a 'Cannot Connect' error, and the screen of the Trinity will be multicoloured bars. You now need to run the update file once again, and the ROM Update progres bar should start. If it won't proceed, then you need to take Step 1 from the page you cited, and load the Hard SPL updater, which will allow the Radio update.
Ok its going well, i've managed to change my radio to.11 which i pretty proud of to be honest!
Now then i have tried the terrible orange sat nav just to see if the gps would work and it did! Next i tried my TomTom v6.00 and it didn't work. Do i definately need 6.03?
Feeling more confident now. might upgrade to WM6. If i go hear

3) Update ROM: 20070527_Trinity_WM6_v2.0.1.1
and download 1) 2) and 3) in order will that be ok? Will it get ride of my Orange today menus, hopefully they are a bit annoying!
I also would like Phone Pad international or something that can act like a standard textign phone pad when i am entering text for some reason mine is available to me? Think that might be an Orange thing as my mate has an older HTC and has it on.
Thanks for your quick replies so far, much appreciated.

one more thing, i am about to purchase tomtom navigator 6. Jsut rang them up and the version they sell is the latest 6.06. Take it this will be fine considering deech said 6.03?
Thanks
yup, basically in 6.03 they introduced "use built in gps" feature, so should be safe to assume 6.06 will still have this
I've ordered my tomtom software. I've also upgraded to WM6 thanks to that thread all about it. Doing ok for a novice i think.
Last thing to solve is this keypad thing.. had a look for phonepad international but can't find it?
Looking through options on new OS and can't find any options for the keyborad. I now seem to have lost transcriber with WM6 too!?
If you have already bought TTN6.00, you should be able the updated file FOC via TomTom Home, though you will need to pay if you want the latest maps.
Using TTN6.00, in the GPS settings, select Other NMEA Receiver (NOT Other NEA Bluetooth..), then Baud 57600 and connect to COM9
Once those are entered, you should be able to see the main screen status change to 'Waiting for Valid GPS Signal'; the GPS Status screen will have asmall revolving icon at the top right. This proecess can take some time and a clear view of the sky, so be patient!
Google PhonePad International on XDA Devs and you will find the file. It runs well on late WM5 or WM6, but as you found, won't run on the Orange version. It is a bit limited in that it doesn't have word completion, but is useful nonetheless.
Some of the WM6 ROM's omit transcriber, because it uses memory, and few people use it anyway

Newbie to HTC devices. I'm familiar with ETEN X500/WM5/WM6 etc, ROM flashing by card and all that jazz, but CID/SPL I don't know yet, so:
does SPL unlocking also cause CID & SIM unlocking? Or does each operation need to be done consecutively, if so any order?
what does CID & SPL stand for anyway, please?
and can the sat locations be updated via internet, like HP and ETEN etc ?
The reason for this is I'm waying an HTCP3600 against yet-to-be released ETEN X800
