It's XDA-Dev time again! - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi all!
Long time no post!
Well, after many months with a Blue Angel, learning it inside and out, I upgraded to a Wizard (8125). I'm still quite happy with it, actually.
And a few minutes ago, I just returned with a Hermes (8525)!
Looks like I'll be spending a few days on the wiki and so forth!
But, without further ado, it's time for me to unlock the sucker!
This thread is pretty much meaningless... sorry about that... but I just wanted to say hello and welcome myself to the third HTC forum!
Let's hope for some smooth upgrading!
Have a great day!
Mike

Yeah you need to jump on the Wiki. You need to read up on HardSPL. This will save your device. I would recomend testing CUSTEL, Black and LVSW ROM's They are very stable. I personally use CUSTEL. Upgrading your radio would also double you battery life and improve reception.
Erik

Interesting...!
Thanks for the pointers in the right direction.
I just unlocked the device and it worked like a champ.
I figured I would install a few apps using the ROM/Firmware/radio that came with it out of the box... and then, in a day or two, I'll wipe it out, and apply some of the stuff I learn here.
Sometimes, it's good to play with it as it is, just so I can compare upgrades with it.
Meanwhile, I am trying to sync the device using PocketMirror for Business Contact Manager in Outlook, and of course... errors, errors, errors. Same thing happened last time. Total pain.
It's gonna be a lonnnnnng week!
Thanks for the info about HardSPL and the Roms!

New to N1

Just got my N1 two days ago, i am loving it. Switched from iphone 3gs, like night and day. Been following xda for about a year and just wanted to say thanks to everyone, great support! Already rooted
welcome to the party
Congrats, good to see some posts like these. Message boards in general tend to be a place where people focus and dwell on problems always good to mix it up with a little positivity.
Also nice to see a post with a positive rooting experience. Unfortunately I think the 2% that have issues are making it seem like rooting is really tough, when really t just comes down to paying attentionm

With all the guides and information on xda it wasnt hard, took about 15min after all the files were downloaded, btw this is my first android device or experience with android. SEARCH function is all you need!

Fool Me Once, Shame On You

I've been lurking here ever since I got my very first Android device, the beloved Nexus One and have been contemplating rooting for a long time. I've watched the videos 10x and read all of the articles 10x.
Last night I finally had enough of stock and rooted and OH MY FU*KING GOD!!
The developers on here need a golf clap for all of the hard work they've put into the Nexus One.
I was impressed before but I'm completely wowed now.
It.
Just.
Works.
FAST!!!!!
I now have the superphone I've been reading about.
Thank you guys!!
PS NOTE TO PAST SELF: Stop being such a pus*y and do it.
I still haven't rooted mine...want to tho. And now I think it's time....
maybe not.
I rooted on tuesday night and have to agree that its well worth it. The phone is absolutely amazing now. The only issue is that I can't put it down.
I wanted to post a thanks as well but figured I'd just jump on here. Without all the informative guides and mods the developers on here made, I wouldn't have done this. So thank you.
i want to root mine but im afraid of voiding the warranty. im thinking of sending it in. i have a problem with my touchscreen.
LOL! nice thread! i felt exactly the same. When i first got my ATT n1 i was skeptical cause its was a $600 phone and i got it day 1. so i wasnt sure if the initial produtcion would have problems. 5 days later phone was running fine, so i said screw it! lets unlock, root, and install a custom rom! I absolutely love the phone now! Well, before i loved it as well, but now woooo! LOL. And if you follow the steps (not that hard to follow) youll be fine! Big thanks to all the developers here!
archillion - what kind of problems with the touchscreen are you having? if its the calibration problem (your touch doesnt register in the right place) a quick restart of the phone or power down and power up will fix that problem. Google is "said" to be working on fix on this. If its that bad why not get a replacement since youre still on warranty? And get to rooting?
i rooted mine the moment i got it lol...but ive been with android since the day the g1 came out and i havent had any problems so it never worried me..the only thing that was going through my head was DESIRE ROM DESIRE ROM DESIRE ROM lol

Can you list the sort of improvements you experienced after modding? Like how much faster the UI, or launching applications...etc.
I have chosen not to root mine and live with the stock ROM for a while. The voiding the warranty has a little to do with it but I also like the pushed ROM updates from Google. I'll root it and put it through it's paces at some point, but just don't need to yet.

Same.. I got a little tired of too much customization with my TP2.. wanna bask in the "stock glory" for a while
I'm still happy as standard. Yeah I'll probably unlock it in the future, but for now it's brilliant as it comes.
The warranty is a large force behind this of course.
which rom are you using now and what is exactly better zhen in stock...
to say its faster is easy but how do you recordnize it mine is very fast from stock

Gotta admit. For stock firmware, its pretty decent. They've definitely addressed the 3G radio issue cuz I'm getting a good 2.8Mbps dl and 1.5Mbps ul. Seems like they've hit the freq sweet spot with mine.

wanted to say thanks

hi guys, not sure if this is where to put this, but i wanted to say thanks to all the guys on this forum... I am a no body, not very good with anything over basic computer skills, same skills with my cell phone... Well i purchased a H2d 2 weeks ago, i really liked the phone stock, my wife got a moto. defy a few days ago and i really like that phone... well long story short, i have read for about 4 days straight.. i read so much and tonight i added android to my phone. There are issues, like robot calls and I'm having trouble doing a soft reboot, it locks.. I can power off and restart in WIN MO. I'm using darkstone HD2Froyo v1, stock 2.13 ROM, 2.10.50.26 radio... Tonight ill be reading more about changing the ROM, i might even try another build of android, this one seems like an early build, not sure but not as flashy as some Ive seen...
Anyways i just wanted to say a big thanks to all you guys who lay this out for us, not real easy to find all the info, but it is here..thanks again, you made my phone "cool"
Dude, thats the best first post ever.
Usually first posts go like...
Can somebody answer this question that could have been answered by a little reading, or using the search function
or
Can somebody post a .cab that solves an ongoing problem that is discussed in countless threads
No, instead, you took the high road and READ FOR 4 DAYS STRAIGHT
Keep reading bro, your phone will keep getting cooler
As for the robot voice, I'm almost sure you know this since you did a bunch of reading and got Android running, but you did tap CLRCAD before tapping Haret right? Only reason I ask is because you have a good radio for Android ( X.XX.50.XX), so CLRCAD is the only other thing I can think of offhand.
If that's not it, I'd try some other builds. There has to be one that will give you clear call audio
Good luck in modding your phone and welcome to XDA
Formatted card this morning and downloaded another ...HD2Froyo_V3.7z .. works good, froze on 1ST camera use.. now sounds decent on calls, i can live with it no problem...I was up most the night trying to get others to load, I found that double twist left a file on my card after i erased it that was not allowing me to run programs off my card, I got a new card and this loaded very fast, under 1 minute...love it..
I really want to try bluetopia.. I love the look of it.. maybe tonight...
I own a powder coating business and this had made me get real backed up...... need to work now, maybe ill try some more soon....
Blue and Redtopia are in my opinion THE best builds of Android available for the HD2. And the robot voice is not from your radio, but from your ROM being the stock 2.13...most builds, Froyostone and the 'topia builds excluded have that problem on the stock 2.13 ROM.
I'm not around here much, but if you copy helpful noob links onto my sticky I'll post them in the 1st post.
Just trying to make it noob friendly.

[Q]rom that can be used for a very long time

The one in my signature is phenomenal. Also, updates and revisions (new releases) will be applicable without wiping your data partition
thanks man will try it if i get in trouble with current-af403 desire hd. it worked first thing afer install and doing so for 4 hours of college life-internet, market, calls, texts all time(yay! )
i just hate when after flash i need 1000 config files, cannot use restart because of corruption, wait for sth to install or fix, reboot 1. time to just work etc.

As a longtime blackberry user I finally bit the bullet and purchased my first android phone the ATRIX. After several days researching i got the nerve up to do some customization and unlock the bootloader and root the phone. After several days customizing I installed Rom manager and Rom Racers recovery. Then I decided it was time for a custom ROM. I have tried several and and currently running AURA 1.1.3 #8Debloat and loving it. Again thanks you guys for a awesome and informative site....and the search button is your best friend.

i'm personally very glad to see that you're enjoying your new Atrix. i was in the same boat as you, this is my first Android phone as well. i took the leap from an iphone 3g (yeah, i know... gimme a break alright?)
after about a week i tried to unlock my bootloader and ended up bricking my device (i now know i just screwed up and could have fixed it by using the fastboot oem unlock command... but i guess some lessons are harder to learn than others, right?)
after getting my Atrix replaced, had someone walk me through the process and now i'm just doing all the research i can. i've read pretty much every thread on the first 15-20 pages of every forum here
once again, really glad to see that you're enjoying your Atrix as much as we are enjoying ours, and feel free to share your experiences with the phone as you continue to customize it!
The beginners guide should be the first thing all newbies read.....walked me through everything ...the soft brick had me worried a lil but it was all covered in the guide...waiting patiently to try CM7 when they get all the bugs worked out...def loving AURA so far n he works very hard keeping everything updated

Good to see you had a ton of success, without even posting for help! You should be a poster child for the effectiveness of the noob guide at the top of the board. And for the search button.

I gave you a Thanks just because you figured it out all by yourself, without asking stupid questions. Winrar is you.
Especially, coming directly from Blackberry, it is impressive, as Atrix is kind of difficult to customize comparing to other phones.
Glad you are enjoying the phone. Cheerz.

You should do a Nandroid & try CM7 Pre-Beta 2, the only issues I'm having with it are:
1) no camera - doesn't fuss me
2) battery life is only OK
If you like Custom ROMs, im glad to say koush its working on atrix, at least is incorporating an atrix source to the cm7 github
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Well the search button was definitely my friend...every question I had had already been answered and directions were very clear as to what to do. I have several backups so that is no problem but the no camera issue on CM7 is a problem for me, plus I am a heavy user so descent battery life is a must. This site is awesome!!!
You should run cm7 for just one day, you won't want to go back

CM7 on this beast is all i ever wanted, however I am personally holding off until the final release.
Can't wait to install the final CM7 without any bugs and glitches. Pure Android heaven.
