wanted to say thanks - HD2 General

hi guys, not sure if this is where to put this, but i wanted to say thanks to all the guys on this forum... I am a no body, not very good with anything over basic computer skills, same skills with my cell phone... Well i purchased a H2d 2 weeks ago, i really liked the phone stock, my wife got a moto. defy a few days ago and i really like that phone... well long story short, i have read for about 4 days straight.. i read so much and tonight i added android to my phone. There are issues, like robot calls and I'm having trouble doing a soft reboot, it locks.. I can power off and restart in WIN MO. I'm using darkstone HD2Froyo v1, stock 2.13 ROM, 2.10.50.26 radio... Tonight ill be reading more about changing the ROM, i might even try another build of android, this one seems like an early build, not sure but not as flashy as some Ive seen...
Anyways i just wanted to say a big thanks to all you guys who lay this out for us, not real easy to find all the info, but it is here..thanks again, you made my phone "cool"

Dude, thats the best first post ever.
Usually first posts go like...
Can somebody answer this question that could have been answered by a little reading, or using the search function
or
Can somebody post a .cab that solves an ongoing problem that is discussed in countless threads
No, instead, you took the high road and READ FOR 4 DAYS STRAIGHT
Keep reading bro, your phone will keep getting cooler
As for the robot voice, I'm almost sure you know this since you did a bunch of reading and got Android running, but you did tap CLRCAD before tapping Haret right? Only reason I ask is because you have a good radio for Android ( X.XX.50.XX), so CLRCAD is the only other thing I can think of offhand.
If that's not it, I'd try some other builds. There has to be one that will give you clear call audio
Good luck in modding your phone and welcome to XDA

Formatted card this morning and downloaded another ...HD2Froyo_V3.7z .. works good, froze on 1ST camera use.. now sounds decent on calls, i can live with it no problem...I was up most the night trying to get others to load, I found that double twist left a file on my card after i erased it that was not allowing me to run programs off my card, I got a new card and this loaded very fast, under 1 minute...love it..
I really want to try bluetopia.. I love the look of it.. maybe tonight...
I own a powder coating business and this had made me get real backed up...... need to work now, maybe ill try some more soon....

Blue and Redtopia are in my opinion THE best builds of Android available for the HD2. And the robot voice is not from your radio, but from your ROM being the stock 2.13...most builds, Froyostone and the 'topia builds excluded have that problem on the stock 2.13 ROM.

I'm not around here much, but if you copy helpful noob links onto my sticky I'll post them in the 1st post.
Just trying to make it noob friendly.

My Own Testing on all these roms...

Ever since i got my hands on an Android i been testing like crazy looking for that perfect rom. Not until recently cyanogens roms were a nightmare for me. Btw, i have a mytouch 3G black T-mobile USA version. I have it loaded with the RAv1.4 or is it RAv1.2, anyway the cyanogen and many other roms ( i suspect its the SPL) have a screen lit problem. after i put the phone to sleep, when it wakes up it has the big black blur. Cyanogen recently fixed it! and his roms have been awesome until the last release. No more tethering, no more apps like that one fabolous task killer app with the blue icon. Once again im sure there is good reasoning..
I dont need smart ass replies or answers to anything i read above. this thread is for others like me that just want to kno which rom is awesome for their phone. like me, they dont want to click thru every single release thread with 10,000 pages. lets get it started with one that im loving!
1) RaiderX303 Micro Hero v2.0
Everything is FAST AND SMOOTH
No "extra" apps included
Market doesnt seem to work ( i only tried to dl astrid..not dling)
SO FAST its worth it for me to use for a few days even week(s).
and i mean fast as most hero apps i uninstall in a hour.
I will update this thread as i go
NOTE: writing this was purely out of my boredom/lunch break. i do not attempt to put in an extra effort to get things right like that name of the blue app that kills my tasks(damn what is it calllledd) . im simply venting/commenting on roms i try out as im a rom fiend just like linux distros. so if your using the same phone as iam ...come back
update
Market does work just not astrid.
Found wifi tethering on market.
I'm sorry, but what's the meaning of this thread?
my own thread logging up which rom i tried and liked/ what didnt work. is this a problem? or am i suppose to go to every roms own thread to post my opinion?

Yes you should post your opinion in each thread. This has nothing to do with development. At the very least post this in general.
thanks for the right "direction"
mods is it possible to move this to general? thanks

My pos hd2

I have a HTC HD2 TMOUS and i have nothin but problems i already did task29 and may 23 energy i did everything correct and it still freezes sometimes it does not even go past the tmobile stick together screen this effin sucks big time wtf is going on???
Should rename the title to "My POS HD2".
Not all HD2's are unstable like yours.
I, task29, install t-mobile radio 2.10.50.26, install energy 23569 cht and the phone is insanely stable and very fast, faster than 2.13 rom.

Have you tried using a different ROM? I have tried Energy ROM and it froze up on me a couple of times. I then switched to Elegancia 8.5 and I couldn't be happier with performance and stability, as well as eye candy. Only times it gives me trouble is when I do something stupid or install a CAB file and it doesn't like the ROM. The ROM itself is great, at least for me. I recommend you shop around and see what happens.

Yes I tried a diff. Energy ROM and it still gave me the same problem I didnt like Elegancia that much too much eye candy...lol...idk whats up with this phone it gives me problems the most when I flash the ROM then like after 3 days is when it will start to work a lil better. When I first flashed the ROM it had the problems but not as bad. But then later it got worse.

if its that bad you should be getting a replacement. There are two sets of hd2 problems (based on what people have been posting since i started reading in jan)
those who have a few rom basede glitches, like jittery keyboard, sleep of death, etc. which can be solved by flashing, or tweaks etc, and those whose phone, whilst showing similar effects to the first set, are far worse, and dont respond to tweaking.
If its a new phone, and its as bad as you say, dont fanny about with flashing and what not, get it replaced and start fresh.

Hey drift. I gotta go with sam's thoughts here and say that if it were me experiencing what you are, I'd probably be taking it right down to the store and getting a replacement. Just remember to get everything stock again first. Push if you have to, to make sure you get a new one and not a refurb.
One more question, before you punt it back...have you tried running it without the SD card in it at all? I'm not confident the issue is there, but since nothing else seems to be working, if you could try it and see if there's any change that would be awesome.
p.s. I think RDR will be my next ps3 purchase

Well I don't know that the problem will be there, but I've seen in a few examples where taking the card out actually clears up wonky behavior of various types. I just thought it was worth a try before returning it, and I wanted to just add your results to my collective troubleshooting experience on this phone.
There's a few card-releated thinks that can cause your phone to misbehave (bad card, etc), and this is just the best way to make sure we eliminate anything having to do with it. Hate to have you replace a whole phone if all it needs is a new card. But, like I said, there's still a pretty low chance it'll help

I was having similar issue on my stock ROM and could not get it past the boot screen. I took my SD card out (sometimes had to do that to my wing) and it let it boot. As soon as it was booted I did a factory reset and it was good. This was when I first got the phone and was putting all kinds of weird stuff before I actually began doing a little research. Hahaha. But yeah new T-Mobile ROM and Cookies and running like a champ!
At this point I doubt there are refurbs floating around. Too new. Isn't there something you can dial in to show you whether it's a refurb or not from your phone key pad?# something or other?

Well ive tried every step I could to try and fix it nothin work so maybe its bad hardware im sending it back and there send me a new hd2 so will see as soon as the new one gets here how good that one works.
Refurbs are indeed around, but mostly only coming from T-Mobile Customer Care as warranty replacements for phones in need of exchange that are beyond their initial remorse period... Definitely confirmed on this one.

1st post - had to start somewhere...

1st post, 1st android - LOVE this forum!!
So, I managed to figure out how to root several weeks ago, mainly so I could wifi tether. Been waiting (and waiting... and waiting...) on Sprint to put Froyo out. Toyed with the idea of doing it myself, based on several threads in the xda forums, but just couldn't quite pull the trigger.
Finally took the plunge last week & also flashed my first custom ROM, Syndicate Frozen. Had a couple of 'Oh $hit' moments, but made it through and very glad I did. The speed increase is amazing!
Getting ready to try midNIGHT next... just for kicks.
Just had to say I couldn't have done it without all the awesome help from this forum. Just hope I'm able to contribute, someday...
Cheers!
I remember that from when I got my first Android, the HTC Hero. Such good times.
I am running Syndicate, too. It's my favorite ROM. MidNIGHT is a second, the only reasons I don't use it is because he uses the beta swype in his ROM (meaning you have to renew it every so often), and his rom doesn't support 1x/3G icons like syndicate's does. Though, I must say, MidNIGHT is VERY, VERY stable and will probably not force close ANYTHING you run on it. In other words, MidNIGHT is what stock should've been.
Glad you took the plunge and did it. Its definitely worth it isn't it. On on the latest bonsai rom and its awesome. The.main difference with this rom is you don't have to wipe all your data before you flash.the rom. It backs up all your data and restores it when you flash the rom so you don't have.to start from scratch

Ptfmedic did an awesome job in creating the most flexible and stable (with the BYOR edition) Rom I have ever seen to date, even spawning from the old Windows Mobile 6.1 days... ahhh...
Not to mention the dude has a heart of gold. If you do decide to flash one of his roms, be sure to read some of his blogs and if you feel it stir inside you, help out his cause.
Welcome. This forum is very arousing.
Tried to flash midNight BYOR, after using Odin to get back to a stock with root & CWM, but for some reason it kept failing. Something about couldn't open the zip. Going to try to download the Standard version; maybe the BYOR was corrupted during download.

Yeah, I did take the time to read through a few of his blogs. The Broken Heart one was gripping - will definitely make me think twice the next time I'm approached. I should know here in the next hour or so - multiupload is slower than...

Not to sound offensive or mean, but did you follow his instructions exactly as written on his Android Development page? When it comes to flashing roms (at least with the Epic) one minor mistake can be the difference between a perfect flash and a faulty one. I learned that the hard way -.-
Edit:
Oh and I forgot to mention, although it hasn't happened to me yet, i hear that bad flashes can occur; I.E., something went wrong in that instance alone, not necessarily the entire thing is debunk, but rather just that one time. Try it again and you might have better luck.
Cheers

Not sure why he did that either, but he's recently started using the stock swype we all paid for.
I have to second what you said. I came from a moment and the epic is a huge step up. I'm also running the syndicate rom as well and it sure is a speed demon. I am starting to get the hang of flashing now, though I probably go overboard when I do it. I usually end up flashing back to stock and then install cwm, then I go and flash the rom. This forum is outstanding too. The people here are (for the most part) intelligent and willing to help.

No offense taken at all. I'm definitely a noob, so I'd rather have someone point out the obvious than assume I knew what I was doing.
Tried it a couple ways. 1st time, I was already rooted with CW3.0.0.6 with flashed syndicate. Wiped davlic, cache, and user 3 times. Tried to install the BYOR version & got the error. 2nd time, I used Odin to get back to EB13 rooted with CW3, no other custom rom. Then tried install BYOR version again (after wiping 3x) and got same error.
Decided to Odin back again, EB13, root, CW3; wipe 3x & then installed the midNIGHT Standard & it worked like a charm. I've had bad file downloads from multiupload before, so I'm gonna pin the blame there for now.
Been exploring midNight this afternoon & like it so far. Figured I should give it a few days before I decide which to go with.

[Q] Re-flashing My Rom

Hello guys and gals,
I've been reading this forum for a few years now and really appreciate the community. I've learned so much from everyone I wish I could repay you all somehow. Thanks in advance for the assistance, I'm a little rusty so please bare with me.
I've got my HTC Leo working with CyanogenMod-6.1.0-Nightly-HD2(AndroidMediaUltimate) on top of CoreCell (unsure of the version at the moment, will edit soon)
The phone has been running a little wonky lately and freezing like crazy when the accellorometer changes states or when I'm using the camera. I also have some odd issues with WiFi dropping out and then giving an error... it's just time to reflash I think.
My question is, where do I start? LOL It's all changed since I initially flashed and I don't know if either SD or NAND has benefit over the other. I also want to stick to the Cyanogen build as it's been my favorite, but are there any others that are seriously worth testing? I don't have a lot of time on my hands as I'm busy with work and kids around, etc.
Are there any helpful souls out there who are willing to point me in the right direction? I don't need my hand held, I just need to get on the path and I can figure out the rest. Thank you again for reading and hopefully the assist!
you should try NativeSD where you install your ROM's ( you can have as many as you like depending on the size of the EXT4) in SD which is almost as fast as NAND & you'll have lot's of space for apps to install.
which loader are you using? MAGLDR or CLK?
try this link so that you'll have an idea
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31414628#post31414628
BTW No need to flash radio & use task29 & if ever you will flash radio be careful w/ Tmo's as some radio version can brick it.
Thank you Mengfei! I'm using the Haret loader, afaik? I haven't loaded into CoreCell in so long I just don't remember off the top of my head.
Also, I've switched to AT&T GoPhone service. I moved to the UK a couple years ago and had my phone unlocked when they were still handing out the codes. I'm hoping that I can spoof the APN and get my data service as it's inoperable at the moment. The radio I'm on is really solid, I switched it when I was in the UK for the o2 network. It seems to work on the cingular/AT&T network well, so I'll probably leave it for the time being.
Is there a specific build, rom/loader/etc, that you prefer for the Leo? -edit- After reading some of your posts, I've also gained some curiosity if WP7 has any benefit opposed to WinMo6.5? I don't use the windows side at all of the phone, so unless it's quicker to boot or more stable, is there any real need?

If you don't use Windows at all then there's really no point to using SD, just flash NAND. Some people say that NativeSD is faster than NAND but that really depends on your SD card whilst NAND will always be fairly fast. Follow the guide in my sig and you should be fine.
