Help I have an addiction to rom updates!

First I want to thank every single person on here that has worked so hard to give us the multitude of choices in Roms, themes, and other hacks/fixes/tweaks. After updating to the newest version of Damageless 2.07.02 I have finally reached my stopping point (believe me I have said it more than 10 other times before today). With all the help of everyone on here I feel like a minor expert for my Hero, but I confess I have spent more time wiping, updating, and upgrading my phone than I have actually used it. I think this time I am the closest to a final version Sprint will release, so it's time to sit back and enjoy 2.1 pending the official release. Now I wonder what I will do once they release that version and I have the best Rom loaded up....guess I will go back to using the phone as is, and not trying to tweak it up every 2 or 3 hours.
I am sure like a lot of you my most visited web page on Firefox has been this forum. I admit I have woken up in the middle of the night and decided to log in and see what updates were out there, and then getting excited that Damageless, Flipzmode, Darchstar, Regaw_leinad, Avalaunchmods, Bikcmp, Modaco, Obelisk79 and others have released an update to one of the umpteenth Roms I have used. Again, thanks for everyone's efforts to give us a feeling of empowerment and not having to wait for Sprint to finally release 2.1 to us all!
Once i hit DC 2.05 - my flashes are just updates without a wipe. The only problem i hit is that I have to clear data for Rosie to get HTC widgets to come back, but all my apps and settings stay other than that.
This is the phone OS I am sticking with now, except for any incremental updates DC offers over the next week or two.
I hear you. I have been having fun flashing all these ROMs as well. I still have not figured out which one to stick with. All the folks baking these ROMs have been just great with all the updates.
That's the thing... with Gmail synchronization, you don't really have to stick with one particular ROM. I switch themes on a daily basis as well as ROM's, mainly because of testing new things.
I've now joined the theme-ing crowd and have created two new themes, my Android addiction took over a long time ago... the moment I gained root, I was done for!!

Screw you! JK. My thread died.
I like many others was hooked once I rooted. I came across this site on accident one night trying to find something else and the rest is history. Rooted, flashed, flashed, flashed. At first I just had Fresh 1.1, but once all the different 2.1's came out it was flash after flash. Here's as much as I can rememeber....
Fresh 1.1, DC.99, DC1(all the updates), Fresh2.0(and all the updates, DarchLegend,RegawMod and countless nandroid backups and restores.
I keep going back and forth between them. However, as long as I have an Android phone I will probably keep on flashing, but might limit it to once a week or so. Or is that still too much?
Damage is going to be offering "updates" to his rom's rather then having to flash the entire rom over again.
I suggested this yesterday when he was online, and he replied back on the thread he had the same idea and was going to be doing that.

Stock vs custom stability question

I got my wife a HD2 from tmo. She loves the hardware, of course, but the phone is stock and locks up way, way too often.
I was wondering if the custom ROMs suffer from this too or if they have alleviated this issue. I can flash her device easy, but don't want to play support desk for her.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I think this question relates specifically to ROM development vs general dev questions, but Mods please free to move or lock if you have to.

Custom ROM's are generally very stable compared to the Stock, however, when I used my stock, it was stable as hell, it's just on a case to case basis. But sounds like on your situation, flashing a Custom ROM would help.
on my stock HD2 i found that the more txts i had the more it would lock up, and every time i would clear them the phone would run perfect, but i hate to clear my txts so i use the energy rom by NRG. cant be happier.

Same here, mine was pretty stable with the exception of the messaging problem. But man are the custom's smooth and fast! My wife's on the other hand has had numerous lockups...
Sounds like you know your way around flashing but just make sure to READ, READ, READ so you don't end up giving your wife back a paperweight.
The folks around the community have made it extremely easy to do but it's also just as easy to brick it. With the advent of HSPL3, the task29 exe file, I can go from Rom to Rom in about half an hour (after setting everything up on the new one).
As far as which ROM is best (if you find yourself asking that question); that's not a question that's really "allowed" here and usually gets a thread locked. I found that just reading the first few posts of each thread to get the jist of what they offer and then it all comes down to just flashing it, playing around with it and see if you like it.
$0.02
have you tried the updated TMobile US ROM? 2.13...? It is pretty stable. I used it for a couple months. Recently though flashed a custom ROM (Elegancia GTX) for fun, and it is actually faster, and seems even more stable.
The BEST way to make your HD2 stable...completely...is to disable HTC Sense and just use Windows Default (Titanium) or the older traditional WM Today Screen. Using HTC sense caused a need to reset my HD2 too often. Usually once a day or every two days at the longest between resets. With HTC sense disabled I might turn the phone off and on one or two times per week...and that is by choice usually.

wanted to say thanks

hi guys, not sure if this is where to put this, but i wanted to say thanks to all the guys on this forum... I am a no body, not very good with anything over basic computer skills, same skills with my cell phone... Well i purchased a H2d 2 weeks ago, i really liked the phone stock, my wife got a moto. defy a few days ago and i really like that phone... well long story short, i have read for about 4 days straight.. i read so much and tonight i added android to my phone. There are issues, like robot calls and I'm having trouble doing a soft reboot, it locks.. I can power off and restart in WIN MO. I'm using darkstone HD2Froyo v1, stock 2.13 ROM, 2.10.50.26 radio... Tonight ill be reading more about changing the ROM, i might even try another build of android, this one seems like an early build, not sure but not as flashy as some Ive seen...
Anyways i just wanted to say a big thanks to all you guys who lay this out for us, not real easy to find all the info, but it is here..thanks again, you made my phone "cool"
Dude, thats the best first post ever.
Usually first posts go like...
Can somebody answer this question that could have been answered by a little reading, or using the search function
or
Can somebody post a .cab that solves an ongoing problem that is discussed in countless threads
No, instead, you took the high road and READ FOR 4 DAYS STRAIGHT
Keep reading bro, your phone will keep getting cooler
As for the robot voice, I'm almost sure you know this since you did a bunch of reading and got Android running, but you did tap CLRCAD before tapping Haret right? Only reason I ask is because you have a good radio for Android ( X.XX.50.XX), so CLRCAD is the only other thing I can think of offhand.
If that's not it, I'd try some other builds. There has to be one that will give you clear call audio
Good luck in modding your phone and welcome to XDA
Formatted card this morning and downloaded another ...HD2Froyo_V3.7z .. works good, froze on 1ST camera use.. now sounds decent on calls, i can live with it no problem...I was up most the night trying to get others to load, I found that double twist left a file on my card after i erased it that was not allowing me to run programs off my card, I got a new card and this loaded very fast, under 1 minute...love it..
I really want to try bluetopia.. I love the look of it.. maybe tonight...
I own a powder coating business and this had made me get real backed up...... need to work now, maybe ill try some more soon....
Blue and Redtopia are in my opinion THE best builds of Android available for the HD2. And the robot voice is not from your radio, but from your ROM being the stock 2.13...most builds, Froyostone and the 'topia builds excluded have that problem on the stock 2.13 ROM.
I'm not around here much, but if you copy helpful noob links onto my sticky I'll post them in the 1st post.
Just trying to make it noob friendly.

1st post - had to start somewhere...

1st post, 1st android - LOVE this forum!!
So, I managed to figure out how to root several weeks ago, mainly so I could wifi tether. Been waiting (and waiting... and waiting...) on Sprint to put Froyo out. Toyed with the idea of doing it myself, based on several threads in the xda forums, but just couldn't quite pull the trigger.
Finally took the plunge last week & also flashed my first custom ROM, Syndicate Frozen. Had a couple of 'Oh $hit' moments, but made it through and very glad I did. The speed increase is amazing!
Getting ready to try midNIGHT next... just for kicks.
Just had to say I couldn't have done it without all the awesome help from this forum. Just hope I'm able to contribute, someday...
Cheers!
I remember that from when I got my first Android, the HTC Hero. Such good times.
I am running Syndicate, too. It's my favorite ROM. MidNIGHT is a second, the only reasons I don't use it is because he uses the beta swype in his ROM (meaning you have to renew it every so often), and his rom doesn't support 1x/3G icons like syndicate's does. Though, I must say, MidNIGHT is VERY, VERY stable and will probably not force close ANYTHING you run on it. In other words, MidNIGHT is what stock should've been.
Glad you took the plunge and did it. Its definitely worth it isn't it. On on the latest bonsai rom and its awesome. The.main difference with this rom is you don't have to wipe all your data before you flash.the rom. It backs up all your data and restores it when you flash the rom so you don't have.to start from scratch

Ptfmedic did an awesome job in creating the most flexible and stable (with the BYOR edition) Rom I have ever seen to date, even spawning from the old Windows Mobile 6.1 days... ahhh...
Not to mention the dude has a heart of gold. If you do decide to flash one of his roms, be sure to read some of his blogs and if you feel it stir inside you, help out his cause.
Welcome. This forum is very arousing.
Tried to flash midNight BYOR, after using Odin to get back to a stock with root & CWM, but for some reason it kept failing. Something about couldn't open the zip. Going to try to download the Standard version; maybe the BYOR was corrupted during download.

Yeah, I did take the time to read through a few of his blogs. The Broken Heart one was gripping - will definitely make me think twice the next time I'm approached. The man definitely has a heart of gold & the patience of a saint. And he still takes the time to make great Rom's from what I hear. I should know here in the next hour or so - multiupload is slower than...

Not to sound offensive or mean, but did you follow his instructions exactly as written on his Android Development page? When it comes to flashing roms (at least with the Epic) one minor mistake can be the difference between a perfect flash and a faulty one. I learned that the hard way -.-
Edit:
Oh and I forgot to mention, although it hasn't happened to me yet, i hear that bad flashes can occur; I.E., something went wrong in that instance alone, not necessarily the entire thing is debunk, but rather just that one time. Try it again and you might have better luck.
Cheers

Not sure why he did that either, but he's recently started using the stock swype we all paid for.
I have to second what you said. I came from a moment and the epic is a huge step up. I'm also running the syndicate rom as well and it sure is a speed demon. I am starting to get the hang of flashing now, though I probably go overboard when I do it. I usually end up flashing back to stock and then install cwm, then I go and flash the rom. This forum is outstanding too. The people here are (for the most part) intelligent and willing to help.

No offense taken at all. I'm definitely a noob, so I'd rather have someone point out the obvious than assume I knew what I was doing.
Tried it a couple ways. 1st time, I was already rooted with CW3.0.0.6 with flashed syndicate. Wiped davlic, cache, and user 3 times. Tried to install the BYOR version & got the error. 2nd time, I used Odin to get back to EB13 rooted with CW3, no other custom rom. Then tried install BYOR version again (after wiping 3x) and got same error.
Decided to Odin back again, EB13, root, CW3; wipe 3x & then installed the midNIGHT Standard & it worked like a charm. I've had bad file downloads from multiupload before, so I'm gonna pin the blame there for now.
Been exploring midNight this afternoon & like it so far. Figured I should give it a few days before I decide which to go with.

Awesome Recent collection of EVO ROMs right here on XDA

Found a great compilation of a very recent and updated list of roms for the evo. Saves searching if ur lazy or in a crunch. Up to 7/10/11 as I post this.
http://alchemistar.blogspot.com/2010/10/htc-evo-4g-supersonic-custom-roms-list.html
I know a simple google search might get u the same place but ever since I becomes a flashaholic I can't get enough and unfortunately my favorite (deck gingerbread) has got me filled with errors now and wake lock galore (tried the fixes don't worry, even got a crazy combo of radios and pri etc) I've been shopping around and surprisingly I am actually enjoying MikG 2.15
I thought I would never return to Sense based ROMs but hey it's smooth, fast, and I don't have to tweak nonstop to get battery life and what not AND I don't need to flash another rom just to be able to get into dialer codes.
Thanks to alChemistar for organizing these. Love the android community Compared to my iPhone.
May the hunt continue for the most options, high performance, best battery and easy yet fun interface... I know I have high expectations. Thanks all and happy flashing and as I learned here the hard way... Unless ur a pro READ AT LEAST the OP's remarks on whatever rom in regards to ateps and wiping etc. Saves you and everyone here tons of time. I have yet to ask a question here because there really is everything and if you cant find it, especially if you have a backup .... Try to figure out yourself, more rewarding. Just don't go bricking your phone. And remember nandroid and wipe wipe wipe wipe wipe wipe...and one more wipe.
If this is a repost I apologize I did a quick search to avoid redundancy

Whoops damn iPad... MikG 2.15
I just flashd this last night half asleep because I have been getting destroyed by deck's 1.2.1 I should have relized considering the CM nightlies were bad for me (and deck is based off them) so I needed to do gpsclrx and fell asleep and in the morning said hey why not let's see what's going on so I honestly am probably super behind on rom's. I just rooted 2 months or so and quickly landed on deck and stuck to it with the occasinonal taste test but 90% AOSP. I actually just saw that my native hotspot is locked in mik so either I find a fix, wireless tether or move on so it a learning process for us all with a lot of mix and match, trial and error. Any sense or FULLPROOF stable AOSP recs would be appreciated.
P.S. Any unlisted links to ROMs for the EVO that Aren't in the link please do post with title and date of last release and I'll try to contact the original compiler or just post an update myself. I've been known to update the long forgotten evo 4g rom wiki
