I think I've noticed a issue in Pocket Outlook (QTEK rom 2.11). Previous versions of Outlook would allow you to specify a from address different from the actual account address (eg account [email protected], but sending as [email protected]). Whilst this version does allow you to specify the from address, it even appears on the composition page correctly (eg [email protected]) but when the email is delivered the only From header is the account address (eg [email protected]).
Unfortunately, the Exchange server that I am using is not hosted in house so I cannot have a play around with the settings. So, is it possible to define a from address and have it used correctly? Or is there a bug in the above version of Outlook?
thanks

Hi,
Does anyone know how I can make the "From" field available so I can send on behalf of another user when composing a new email message in Pocket Outlook?
Thanks!
At the end of the line 'Subj:<...>' ou will see a very small sign made of 2v (very difficult to explain but it is the only icon at that place)
When you click on it , the zone will expand and you will be able to enter:
To: <...>
Cc : <...>
Bcc: <...>
Subj: <...>
and
Account : xxxxxx
If you click on the small triangle at the end of this line, you will be able to
change the sender's account.
Depending on your ISP, you may use any account you like...even one that does not belong to you.....(héhéhéhé)
Indeed, the usual restrictions applied by ISP on regular internet access seem not to be applied on wireless internet...
Cheers
Yes, I can choose between "Outlook E-Mail" and "SMS", or any other account that I have set up.
But what I want to do is to use the "Outlook E-Mail" account (as this is what I use to connect wirelessly to my Exchange server), but to specify another name for the sender, just like you would in outlook by entering another name in the "From:" field.
The users on behalf on whom I am sending do not even have their own mailbox storage, they are just entries in the Active Directory on the server. All of the incoming email to these addresses are forwarded to my own user, and when I answer on such an email I would like to be able to make the answer come from that address instead of from my own. The users are not even allowed to log on to the server.
Any idea? I was hoping there would be a registry setting that would add access to the "From:" field.

Unless I'm mistaken, I can't see any way of editing the From: field on Outlook 2003 or Express 6, only To, Cc and Bcc. The From field is set by the account profile you are using. It's the same on the Jam. If you're using the Outlook Email Activesync account, as opposed to a standard POP/IMAP account, isn't the user ID (Exchange email address, identity, SMTP address, etc) controlled by the Outlook profile on your PC and the Exchange server directory, not the PocketPC?

I'm afraid you are mistaken
In Outlook, when you are composing a new email, under the "view" menu you can choose to enable the "From" field. And for all users that you are set up to send email on behalf of, only put the name in the from field and you will send the mail in the name of that user.
So what I am looking for is a way to enable the same option in Pocket Outlook. Or another software that will give me the same functionality as the real Outlook. Had a look at WebIS mail, but they seem to make a thing of not fully supporting the Active Sync/Exchange server protocol. :?

So I am. Guess who had the "Use Word for composing Emails" box ticked
Seems you're stuck then, unless you can send the mail via an SMTP server instead? Then you could set up accounts with different From and Reply-To identities, or have alias/rewrite scripts on the SMTP server to create mail headers depending on keywords in your message. Still a lot of messing about, but better than nothing.
It's abit weird that they left this bit out when implementing Pocket Outlook. It's not like it's rocket science
I would like to kno if anyone in xda was able to address the problem with the wm5 client address on a forum i read about, i beleive i am havin the same problems
"the Pocket tv team"
we found a bug with the Windows Mobile Email client that prevents using
certain SMTP servers.
i suspect the bug is general to all Windows Mobile devices including Pocket
PCs, but we only tested it and confirmed it on the Motorola Q (a Windows
Mobile 5.0 Smartphone).
the bug prevents using some login names on SMTP servers (i.e. outgoing
email) that require a user name DIFFERENT from the POP3 ou IMAP4 server
(i.e. incoming email) and when the login name is something like
'[email protected]' i.e. when the login name contains an '@' sign.
this type of server login name is common on servers that use shared domains
on a single IP address, and this is a common case. in this case, since
there may be several users with the same name under different domains (on
the same server), the correct user is identified by using the domain name
with the '@' sign.
in fact i found that bug by trying to configure the Motorola Q to use one of
our email servers to send my email.
what happens is that the Smartphone email client removes the @ sign and
everything that follows it when loging to the SMTP server - we confirmed
that by looking in real time in the log files produced by our SMTP server.
i am not aware of any workaround.
the problem does not happen when the SMTP server uses the same login name as
the POP3 or IMAP4 server (in that case, the login name can have an "@" sign,
and it is handled correctly). the problem only happens when the SMTP server
uses a different login, and that this different login has an "@" sign.
once again, MSFT was apparently trying to be "smart" i.e. they assumed that
the @domain part in the login name of the SMPT server was entered by mistake
by the user, but being too smart is not always a good thing.
note that using fully-qualified user-name that include a mandatory @domain
part is very common and even google's gmail uses this, as you can see in the
'Account Name' section of
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...y?answer=13287 .
if you use gmail to both receive and send email, it will work, because the
POP3 and SMTP servers use the same login. but if you want to use gmail just
to send (i.e. SMTP), and use another server to receive (i.e. POP3 or IMAP4),
then it won't work, because of that bug.
this is a pretty serious problem.
also, the IMAP4 client configuration does not allow to specify the remote
directory (in the user's account on the IMAP4 server) where the IMAP folders
are located, which may be different from the default login directory. This
renders IMAP4 completely un-usable in some cases.
Of course those bugs are not new to Windows Mobile 5.0. It's just a shame
that MSFT never fixed them.

i have found that if i need to access my gmail account using POP3 client, i need to prepend my username with the recent tag
ie) recent:[email protected]
However, i am puzzled by what does the POP3 client communicate with the server when a recent: is used. POP3 standard does not have anything to do with the recent: prefix. Hence my doubts are:
1) Is it that gmail's POP3 server is customized to handle this type of login ?.i.e.) The gmail's POP3 server would allow multiple POP3 connection when a user logs in with recent:[email protected]
2) How is it that when recent: is prefixed, the client is able to download emails received during the last 30 days only? [It is a coool feature since i dont have to download all my old emails to my mobile]
3) Is this applicable for the IMAP account also?
4) Any other server that support this recent: prefix to the username?
Thankyou in advance for ur support.

Hi,
I have a strange problem with the config of Outlook on my Windows Mobile 6.5 which I hope someone might be able to offer some help with. This is on a HTC HD2 with standard ROM, v 1.48.405.2 (71294) WWE.
I have configured it to connect with our work Exchange Server, and all is well, except for the "from" email address. On our exchange server I have several smtp email addresses associated with my account, for example:
[email protected] ; [email protected] ; [email protected] (a total of 5).
My main address is [email protected], but for some reason when I go to send an email from my mobile device the from address is [email protected], and I cannot find any way to change this.
I checked the device registry and found an entry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Partners\{xxxx}\EmailAddresses
The contents of this entry showed all my smtp addresses, and had my main address as the final entry, and [email protected] as the first entry. So, I thought it's worth a try to swap them around - I did this, and did a soft reset, but the problem still persists.
Has anyone any suggestions ? Any help appreciated.
(Hope I explained this clearly).
Regards, Jon.
Resolved - using correct default smtp address now
Managed to resolve this, in case anyone is curious / has similar problems. I cannot be 100% sure which action resulted in it working, but I did the following:
- had our IT admin delete then re-add the smtp email addresses to my account, ensuring correct one was marked as default / primary
- deleted the Outlook account from my HD2.
- Created the Outlook account as new on my HD2 (I did this on the phone itself whereas last time I created using Windows Mobile Device Center)
It picked up the correct default email address immediately, and checking registry (location in original post), only the default email address is shown now. Previously all smtp email addresses were listed.
I am suspicious of creating the Outlook account in Windows Mobile Device Center as causing the problem in the first place - my Exchange Server account was previously working fine with a Touch Pro. But cannot be 100% sure without going back and retrying, which as I have it working, I am not going to do at the moment.
Anyway, I shall stop replying / talking to myself now.
Jon.
I have the same problem..
How is it possible to change the adress which you want to use for sending the email?
My Exchange pushes all incoming Emails I receive from different accounts, but sometimes it would be fine to answer with the right Email account.. But I found no solution yet..
Any news from your side jh9957?
Thanks and Regards,

hi to everybody,
kindly tell me how to configure the outlook email in my htc touch2.
i'm using my company email id. is it possible to configure company email id in outlook settings. its showing "sync error".
kindly help me
I have made it for my company Exchange server. I put my [email protected],com, then put my pass, i dont put domain name, only server address: mail.company.com.
After that it must ask you what do you want to sync and will begin syncing. If that doesnt work for you, you may have problem with connection settings.
Sync Error sometimes also happens if you don't have the certificates installed. Try installing the certificates and sync again.
Server address
to find your your server address,
Connect up to your company email via VPN on your PC, go to your inbox and the address in the address bar e.g.
https://***companyservername***/Remote/default.aspx
is your server address
setup your VPN on your phone as well, and you should be ready to go
Si86
Find out the public IP address of your company's mail servers (ask your administrator), use that as the server address.
You may have to ask your mail administrator for some assitance, it depends how they have set exchange up. The good thing is, it's only a few configuration changes, unlike having to buy and install new software like you would with Blackberries...
I hooked mine up to my webmail server
and i did my gf's like this too
If you have company webamail you can input the url as your server address (assuming this has beenset up)and use your AD usenrname and password.
