Hi,
Does anyone know how I can make the "From" field available so I can send on behalf of another user when composing a new email message in Pocket Outlook?
Thanks!
At the end of the line 'Subj:<...>' ou will see a very small sign made of 2v (very difficult to explain but it is the only icon at that place)
When you click on it , the zone will expand and you will be able to enter:
To: <...>
Cc : <...>
Bcc: <...>
Subj: <...>
and
Account : xxxxxx
If you click on the small triangle at the end of this line, you will be able to
change the sender's account.
Depending on your ISP, you may use any account you like...even one that does not belong to you.....(héhéhéhé)
Indeed, the usual restrictions applied by ISP on regular internet access seem not to be applied on wireless internet...
Cheers
Yes, I can choose between "Outlook E-Mail" and "SMS", or any other account that I have set up.
But what I want to do is to use the "Outlook E-Mail" account (as this is what I use to connect wirelessly to my Exchange server), but to specify another name for the sender, just like you would in outlook by entering another name in the "From:" field.
The users on behalf on whom I am sending do not even have their own mailbox storage, they are just entries in the Active Directory on the server. All of the incoming email to these addresses are forwarded to my own user, and when I answer on such an email I would like to be able to make the answer come from that address instead of from my own. The users are not even allowed to log on to the server.
Any idea? I was hoping there would be a registry setting that would add access to the "From:" field.

Unless I'm mistaken, I can't see any way of editing the From: field on Outlook 2003 or Express 6, only To, Cc and Bcc. The From field is set by the account profile you are using. It's the same on the Jam. If you're using the Outlook Email Activesync account, as opposed to a standard POP/IMAP account, isn't the user ID (Exchange email address, identity, SMTP address, etc) controlled by the Outlook profile on your PC and the Exchange server directory, not the PocketPC?

I'm afraid you are mistaken
In Outlook, when you are composing a new email, under the "view" menu you can choose to enable the "From" field. And for all users that you are set up to send email on behalf of, only put the name in the from field and you will send the mail in the name of that user.
So what I am looking for is a way to enable the same option in Pocket Outlook. Or another software that will give me the same functionality as the real Outlook. Had a look at WebIS mail, but they seem to make a thing of not fully supporting the Active Sync/Exchange server protocol. :?

So I am. Guess who had the "Use Word for composing Emails" box ticked
Seems you're stuck then, unless you can send the mail via an SMTP server instead? Then you could set up accounts with different From and Reply-To identities, or have alias/rewrite scripts on the SMTP server to create mail headers depending on keywords in your message. Still a lot of messing about, but better than nothing.
It's abit weird that they left this bit out when implementing Pocket Outlook. It's not like it's rocket science

I have done a search on this site and HOFO and cant seem to come to a solution. I'm about to go crazy.
I know my company uses Microsoft Exchange. I also have webmail access for my email as well as VPN access.
At this point, I'm unsure what to do with all of the info. I was hoping some of you could help me out. I am on yahoo messenger as curiosity7277466 or I am definitely open to calling you or talking via email. I have been really looking forward to making this work. Hopefully someone here can make my first post here a success. Thanks!
Rudy
it's pretty easy.
*IF* your company has an Outlook Web Access (OWA) Email Server setup so that you can access webmail from the net, you should be able to setup your outlook/exchange email as well.
I bought my 8125 a few nights ago - and while sitting in the store, entered my OWA info and, boom, had my contacts, email, etc. within a few minutes.
Open ActiveSync on your device and click on menu/configure server.
enter your server email address - it should be in the format of mail.doman.com. so, for example, it could look like one of the following:
mail.xda-developers.com
inetmail.yourcompany.com
The point is it will use the same web address that you use for webmail from outside the company. If you use https://mail.xda-developers.com to gain access to your OWA, you'll use mail.xda-developers.com as your server address. You'll likely need to select the SSL connection.
Hit next.
Your use name is your Active Directory user name. The password is your corporate password; and the domain is your AD domain.
You may typically know your user credentials as domain\user name, yet you do need to keep the separate on this screen. Enter user name, passowrd, and domain. Click on the save passwork box.
Hit next. Select your preferences and hit finish.
that's it. you're done.
enjoy.
The key question is which version of Exchange is being used, and what has been exposed to the Internet.
Browsing to Outlook Web Access is the usual clue. Exchange 2003 OWA looks very different from the previous versions - it is very similar to Outlook.
First thing I would try is OMA - Outlook Mobile Access. You can try it from a desktop before you start playing around with your handheld.
https://servername.domain.com/oma
You should get a prompt with username and password.
Enter your username in the format of domain\username and then your regular domain password.
You should then get a list of options in plain text. You can now read your email etc.
Move over to your handheld and enter the same URL and the same thing should happen.
If that doesn't work then you will have to speak to your Exchange administrators to see whether the options have been enabled. There are a number that aren't enabled by default which can stop OMA working.
As Exchange Active Sync works through the OMA virtual directory, if OMA doesn't work then I would be surprised is EAS works.
Exchange ActiveSync setup is as previously posted - but without support enabled on the server, it will never work.
Simon.
The best bet is for you to call your help desk. They may not know but they could probably open a ticket to the Exchage team and you will get a correct answer from them.
There are many different ways to expose the Exchange Front End server to the internet that just guessing will drive you crazy. Some companies expose the whole exchange web directories and other only expose OWA
With all the Firewall Settings Web Proxies and ISA configurations out there it will be hard to tell if you can use Active Sync.
URLs follow this method of connecting to the different IIS Web inerfaces of Exchange
mycompany.domain.com/exchange = OWA
mycompany.domain.com/OMA = WAP based OWA
mycompany.domain.com/ActiveSync = is for ActiveSync
So they have to expose ActiveSync to allow you to use it.

I apologize for my ignorance regarding Pop3 email as all I use is corporate email. I setup an activesync partnership on a laptop that only has EarthLink email. I kind of expected to be able to configure the 8125 to send / receive EarthLink email from it's Outlook E-Mail but it seems that I need to create an separate Pop3 account for EarthLink on his PDA?? I'm sure I'm missing something extremely simple but my searches have been fruitless.
Feel free to blast me into oblivion ( after pointing me in the right direction of course!)

Assuming you wish to get your pop3 email on your PDA whilst it is not connected to your laptop (GPRS or WiFi) you wll you need to create a new email profile on the PDA using your existing email settings. If you just want to syncronise your email between the laptop and PDA then just set up this relationship in Activestink. If you want to use your PDA as the medium over which your laptop will connect to your email account then you will need to configue your PDA as a modem.
Let me know if I am way off in uderstanding your problem...
So my understanding is that even though the client has one email account with EarthLink and he'd like to synchronize his contacts, calendar and email with his PC he has to create a new Pop3 account on his PDA that retrieves his email while he's on the golf course or wherever that is completely separate from his Outlook E-Mail? (and this guy wonders why I'm trying to push him into a corporate email account!)
Thanks for the help!
Steven
Yep. Thats how I do it. My POP3 account is duplicated on my PDA and laptop. I use the T-Mobile web push service to shove the emails to the PDA just like text messages. I can't see why a corperate email account would be any better or different. I also have my corperate email on my PDA and corperate laptop. Same process....
Thanks for your help regarding this but now I'm confused. With my corporate I have one and only one account on my PDA which synchronizes with my Exchange server. My question is ... can my client's EarthLink email be downloaded to his PDA's main Outlook E-mail which was configured when I created the AS partnership? Or does he have to have new emails delivered to his EarthLink profile and use his PDA's Outlook profile only to review old emails when his PDA is on the road? This makes absolutely no sense.
There is a major difference between this then and Exchange email.
Sorry to be so boneheaded but I really can't believe that this is supposed to work like this!
Steven
Goodness your starting to confuse me :? AFAIK the Outlook email profile on your PDA is purely there to act as a syncronised copy of the email client that you configure AS to work with. If you look in your PDA email options you do not get the opportunity to configure this profile. In effect this profile only gives the user the ability to store on his PDA those emails that already exist on the partner PC. In addition he will be able to edit these emails (Reply, delete, file and create new) whilst the PDA is disconnected from the PC. Upon the next AS syncronisation any ammendments or new emails created on the PDA will be sent using the PC communication path and any new emails receievd into the main PC (Exchange) account will be updated to the PDA. This functionality is desgined for all PDA's BUT remember most PDA's don't have the phone built in so this is exactly the functionality they need.
If you want your clients coperate email to be updated "live" to his PDA (Phone Edition) there are three ways to do it:
1 Configure a POP3 or IMAP4 account on his corperate network with suitable dial-up access - This will be dog slow as the PDA will have to use the GSM (NOT GPRS) network to access.
2 Configure his MS exchange server to handle the new "push" email service available with Exchange 2003 SP2. A relationship is set up between the PDA and the Exchange server and the connection is made over the internet which will allow his GPRS/EDGE connection to be utilised which will be miles quicker than GSM dial-up. This method allows emails to be "pushed" to the PDA in a similar way to text messages rather than the client having to make a connection every 30 mins or whatever. The PDA software will need to be WM5 AKU2.
3 Use a 3rd party relay system such as Goodlink from Good technologies. The PDA can be WM2K3 and does not require AKU2 functionality as a client app will be installed on the phone. This works by having a secure connection between his corperate network and the Good Technlogy service centre which will then link to the PDA in a very similar way to option 2.
Any other email accounts will have their own profile configured on the PDA.
I sure hope this is of some help to cause my fingers are sore typing this out on my Wizard
Thanks for the info but I'm quite aware of and have been utilizing the corporate methods of PDA email for a number of years. Unfortunately all my clients have Exchange servers so I haven't had to deal with Pop email in quite a number of years. This particular client is a friend that insists on living with his Earthlink email. I'm just so used to having my email synced without having to work so hard!
I appreciate your effort !

No probs Steven, the only thing I would add is POP3 accounts on a mobile device will normally fall foul of useable SMTP gateways. I'm not sure what earthlink use but if you run into difficulties trying to send emails you'll know where to look. An SMTP relay server that accomodates user validation is required when your "off the ISP network"
It is too odd... My phone syncs with Push over Microsoft Direct Push, but it will only do it when my office desktop Outlook is open and running. If Outlook at work is closed it will not sync over the air. We are using Exchange 2003 and have the outlook web portal running. I just don't understand why the phone will Push sync over the air only when I have Outlook open on my desktop. Anyone have similar issues or a fix?
could you shed some light on how you've set up/configured your server
That doesn't make alot of sense, unless you have a bunch of client-only rules moving emails into the mail folders you are syncing.
I am using the web address to the web outlook portal on my phone; happens to be https://email.jsinc.com/exchange. I put that in and it automatically shrinks it down to email.jsinc.com.
It then connects and asks me for a login and password. I give it my domain username and password and presto it works. Downloads mail, contacts, calandar, tasks, etc. This works all wirelessly, as long as my outlook client on my work desktop is open and running- phone is NOT plugged in over USB, bluetooth, Wi-Fi, etc. Strickly over Edge wireless.
BUT if my machine at work is turned off, or Outlook application is closed, it will not connect wirelessly. Even if I try to do a manual sync on the phone it comes back with nothing- no errors, just no mail. I THINK it says there are messages there, but refuses to download the headers- I only know this because it gives me the correct number of messages that are new during the ActiveSync, but none of them are downloaded.
Once I open up Outlook at work, then presto my mail all syncs up like it should.
I did more digging and on our Exchange 2K3 box, I have
"Enabled user initiated sync" checked
"Enable up-to-date notifications via SMTP and Text Messaging" checked
"Enable notifications to user specified SMTP address" checked
"Enable Direct Push over HTTP(s)" checked
Under Outlook Mobile Access:
"Enable Outlook Mobile Access" Unchecked
"Enable unsupported devices" greyed out
BUT
Under my Active Directory User Profile/Exchange Features I have these items enabled:
Outlook Mobile Access
User Initiated Sync
Up-to-date Notifications.
That tells me things are where they need to be, and that the "All users" enable for Outlook Mobile Access is disabled, but MY outlook mobile access is in tact.
Are you storing all of your email, contacts, etc in a local PST file on your PC, or are you leaving your data on the server?
Do you have an AKU2 ROM? If not, it will be performing the sync through your activesync profile on the desktop, and not directly with the server (which sounds like your problem).
I am storing everything online, no pst files.
I am running version 2.24 ROM w/Cingular 2.25 Radio Rom, downloaded from someone that started with a "x" he makes clean ROM's, over on Howards Forums- sorry forgot the name. That is version 2 right, I have a Microsoft Direct Push button on my Connections window
Ok, I am fairly confident I know the solution but I have questions:
1) What user ID are you using to log into the server? Are you using xxxxxxxx or are you using [email protected]? Meaning, are you only using your Windows login name, or are you using your email address?
2) What is your DOMAIN option set to? Is that the EXACT same domain your desktop shows when you log in?
I bet your problem is that you are logging in with your email address and not just your windows login, or you are using your email domain and not your windows domain name.
when I log into the system is it like this:
jsi\treminga (domain then \ username) Even over the web the login is formated just like that above.
Regarding the Domain piece, I have my username as just treminga, password as my password and under domain i have "JSI"
It does login and retrieve my mail over the air, just seems that I need to have my desktop Outlook open to do that, which I think is weird. I have setup my server source from both my desktop active sync AND just on the phone, does not seem to matter, still seems to need my Outlook open to act as a gateway almost- but over the air? Odd

So on the phone you have:
User name: treminga
Password: xxxxxxx
Server: email.jsinc.com
Domain: jsi
Is that accurate? Can you log into Outlook Web Access without having outlook open on your desktop? When you log into Outlook Web Access, what do you put in the user name box?
This is all correct:
User name: treminga
Password: xxxxxxx
Server: email.jsinc.com
Domain: jsi
I can login from anywhere to my Outlook Web Access, my machine at work can be shut down completly- ie no Outlook open. In the Outlook Web Access I put my user name in like this: jsi\treminga (this is no seperate Domain blank in the login and password window that pops up). It will NOT allow me to connect if I just type "treminga" into the field over Outlook Web Access.
If my settings above were not correct, wouldn't it not allow me to connect? I assumed my login and password stuff was correct since I can download e-mail, contacts, etc and sync them, but only if for some reason my desktop Outlook application is open.
I am curious if you have forms based authentication enabled on your Exchange box. I am guessing no since you do not log in with your full email address to OWA.
Have you tried logging in on the phone using jsi\treminga vs just treminga?
To answer your question about it not allowing you to connect with incorrect settings, I have seen exactly the problem you are describing on my Exchange box, and we determined the problem was that on the phone the user name field had the full email address ([email protected]) instead of just the user name. Once that change was made OTA on the phone started working again without outlook being open on the desktop.
I can't explain why, except to offer this one word answer: Microsoft.
If slacker solution does not work, maybe you could confirm that you have SP2 on the Exchange box
If slacker solution does not work, maybe you could confirm that you have SP2 on the Exchange box
Should I remove the JSI part from the domain entry... ie which should I use
username: jsi\treminga
password: ********
Domain: (left blank)
or
username: jsi\treminga
password: ********
Domain: JSI
SP2 isn't required to do OTA activesync, just for the push. So the problem he is having would not be altered by installing SP2 I don't believe.
Also I should have the SSL box checked right? Since my Outlook Web Access site is: https://email.jsinc.com/exchange (SSL because of httpS) right?
Ok I deleted my server source and readded it, I could not add it WITHOUT something in the domain section. But if I put in the JSI in the domain section, and the user name was jsi\treminga it would jsi\jsi\treminga in the error and would not connect. How can I bypass the domain box? It seems to add the jsi\ with the "domain box", so adding it to the username makes it redundant.
I recently got this email from att yahoo:
Dear AT&T Yahoo! Member,
We're making some security improvements to your AT&T Yahoo! service. These changes will affect members who send or receive email from a desktop or mobile client program, such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird.
To help us ensure the security of your email, you will need to change the settings on your desktop or mobile email client program.
you may take the following steps to change the settings on your desktop or mobile email client program:
Open your email client program.
Locate the email account settings for your particular client.
Change the POP server to pop.att.yahoo.com.
Change the SMTP server to smtp.att.yahoo.com.
Check the option labeled Use an encrypted connection (SSL) and change the SMTP port to 465.
Check the option labeled Use an encrypted connection (SSL) and change the POP3 port to 995.
Confirm the above settings then click OK.
I already tried my first comandment "Thou shalt not ask before search!" but alas I can't seem to find how to change ports on e-mail set up. I'm running wm6 but I don't know if wm5 had this abbilty as I didn't need it then. Any help would be great!
So, mabey I should have posted under wm6 & titled the post photon question. At the very least somebody would reply to flame me or something. lol
I had the same problem. Turned out to be the operator. They do not offer full Internet services, only WAP and unencrypted e-mail (i.e. no SSL). The problem sorted itself out after switching to another operator . . .
Add a colon then (port #, no spaces) after each in/Out server. That is how I have it set up with my 8525/ wm5
Thanks, I'll give that a shot. If not I guess I can open a hot mail account and forward email till att fixes the auto set up in August (per the "help" desk)
I am trying to figure out why my HTC HD2 will not send emails from my handset. Although the emails are coming thru to my HTC HD2.
Kinda getting me annoyed, as I have DOUBLED check the settings with the same settings on my MS outlook 2007 via the PC, they should match up - i'm guessing?
Any idea's what could be wrong?
Cheers.
Hello,
i had the same problem. You should not configure your email account in the manila tab. Delete your account, go to start (windows button) and E-Mail. when you configure here your email account, it should work (worked for me).
Somewhere I read that you should do all future changes in settings of accounts also this way and never use the manila tap for configurations of email settings...

Have tried that... still no joy.
The email just sits in the OUTBOX, and doesn't get sent.
When mailing over WiFi or through PC use your 'home' internet providers' smtp server. When mailing over your mobile network, use your phone company's smtp server. That's the way it goes with internet.
Or use an smtp server that handles both, but they are rare (unless you have your own domain name).
my yahoo does not send email but my google email can. try using a google email.
Some providers require the "Outgoing server requires authentication" tickbox selected.

actually most of the network providers (certainly in the uk) give you an email account with your phone number, or at least allow you to register for one through them, and generally they allow smtp sending from any network.

I have no problem with sending or receiving e-mail via yahoo mail.
Incoming mail server is pop.mail.yahoo.com whilst outgoing is smtp.mail.yahoo.com. Account type is POP3. Option is selected for "Outgoing server requires authentication".
It worked for my Tilt
I have been experiencing these same problems for the last couple of weeks and gave up thinking MS has done the dirty on us again. But after trying to send an important email to a bank and seeing it fail repeatedly, I decided to do something. All the other posts on problems sending email suggest downloading the MS patch which I did, changing port numbers, which I did not do, did not work. What did work is that I checked the box for outgoing mail authentication!
Phew I can keep my Tilt WM6.1 standard build for a while longer now........
Thanks guys.
