Yes. Lock your phone or turn it off by pressed the power button once. Or you can search on here and google for one of the button mapper programs. Simply pressing the power button should work.
thanks for the quick reply, I do that sometimes but problem is that when i get a call or a txt i end up pressing the IE button thats why i was looking for a fix or something so I can make IE button press and hold to open. thanks.
AEButton Plus will let you program it for Single, Double, Triple, and/or Long Press.
You could also simply disable the button using the stock Menu->Settings->Buttons utility.

A question for someone more technical than I:-
I've just installed the very useful Hitchhiker. What I want to do is remap the Comm Manager button above the volume slider so that, when I press it, instead of launching Comm Manager, it switches on Wi-Fi and launches Hitchhiker.
Does anybody have a tweak for this? Preferably a cab as reg fiddling is beyond me.
Thanks.
It will be easy to set button 5 to hitchhiker, just go to settings\buttons and it allows you to change button assignments there. To have wifi come on at the same time one possible way is to have button 4 do it - click wifi on, click (hold) hitchhiker on.
Use vjvolubilis to get one click wifi on see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=46947
hope that helps
Hmm... I might try "click button 4 for wi-fi, then hold button 5 for hitchhiker" for a bit and see how it goes.
Thanks.
Remap Hold Button 5?
Are you able to change the hold funciton on Button #5, the Comm Manager button? I saw that you were talking about doing that, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do this.
I tried adding another folder in the Registry that related to the Hold function to 5 but I'm not sure if I set it up correctly b/c it's not working--it still only has the switch between virbate and normal modes of sound.
Thanks for your help.
I haven't seen this question anywhere so i reckoned id ask..
I like to use my phone for listening to music but if you put it in your pocket id does all kinds of strange things - like opening PIE which starts a UMTS connection or it jumps to the next song..
I never use the videocall button on the phone, so why not map the built-in keylock to that one?
But does anyone know if this is possible/how to do it? can this simply be changed in the registry?
Thanks for any help.
I use vjay's device lock.
Get it here
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJDeviceLock
Hi. thanks for the quick response.
Works like a charm =)
but now i need to map the exe to the videocall-button. any ideas?
I beleive that the Video call button is button 5 on the left side of your phone. I have an 8525 so that button is PTT. I think if you try load the PTT fix it may open that button up. I am not sure about this so it you try that you may need to do a hard reset to get back if it messes up your phone. So make sure you have a current backup to quickly restore from.
Where ca you find the PTT fix?

hi. thx. but that wont work. the PPT button is not the video call button. i could of course map it to another one.
I use a program called double launcher got it at handango. It allows you to assign up to 4 different programs to each HW button. I only use 3 per button but it's real nice. It's done by press, -- double press, -- press and hold, -- double press and hold.
Check it out I assigned the VJ device lock to double press on comm manager.
hi i want to assing the back button "<--" on the bottom with the OK button. i dont need the back functionality, what i want is to avoid trouble hitting OK on the top every time. someone suggested me AEbutton, that solved my problem assigning the volume button for up down navigation, but i want to assing back button to act as OK.
pl. help
Well, I've got good news. The Back button IS OK. Try it in a Settings dialog, pressing Back *will* save your changes.
You can assign actions to OK with AEBPlus.
This surprised the hell out of me - I only realized this after owning my HD for a month.
It also means that there is no PPC/HD equivalent to the Back button on smartphone devices. I had a Vox before, and was used to the Back button meaning "cancel".
JUst to add a little to that.
Is it possible in any way to disable the volume keys?
I cant stop pressing them by mistake

AE Button plus
then just remap them so they dont work as volume keys on a single press ( i use the long press to make them go up and down, but in rreality i use the slider to actually move change volume so i dont need to even map them to the volume at all)
Ehm.... what is the slider? I read about that also in TouchLockPro and I couldn't realize what it was.
Hi!
I am wondering if there's a way to change the time until the poweroff.exe is run when pressing and holding the power-button. Haven't been able to find anything about this on google, only how to re-assign the utility that is executed in the end.
Anyone have any ideas? Hardcoded?
Good question. I asked 1 1/2 years ago if anyone knew how to disable that yes/no popup when you press the power button. I don't want it, I've never accidentally hit the power button for several seconds yet.
Interesting that you can change the entire shutdown program that is executed - that would solve my problem if I could find a good replacement. Do you have any good links on that?
Hi!
After reading a bit more on the subject I dont think that reassigning the exec'd app applies to Athenas... You can switch the file into some other "shutdown-app" though by switching \windows\poweroffwarning.exe.
Thats what I know so far. Google XDA for "long press change power" (without quotes) and you'll find a few posts on the matter.
Still no clue if its even possible to lower the time for the long keypress... :-(

yes i've just read your post and while i'm searching for the answer at moment i can tell you this much button assignments and time out periods are usually a function of the registry. so what you both were looking for is going to be a registry key. now whether it's a modify an existing key or create a key that it recognises is yet to be seen so either start researching the registry or keep eye's open as i'm still searching...
New: found this thread which i think is a better option then trying to modify the power buttons defualt timeout's and suggests that really if you have a diffrent power manager for shutting down etc.etc. that's better then use their binary
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427699
Hmm... Not really what I was looking for. I dont want to replace the PowerOffWarning.exe, I just want to shorten the time for it to start. I just mailed a friend of mine, works at MS. Will get back with the answer.
PowBut
You might want to have a look at PowBut.
For instance here.
Haven't tried it myself though.
Thanks, will test it!
Can the hard "enter" button be set to turn on/wake phone instead of small top button?
has anyone set the hard "enter" button to wake the phone, together with a "slide to unlock" program to replicate how the iphone works? I hate pressing that tiny little button on the top and this would be a great modification... sorry if this has been addressed already - I looked but couldn't find anything on this subject. Thanks
I've managed to set the other hard keys to wake the phone up, however that software can't be fully utilized as it is a Topaz/Diamond2 software, will send it to you, if you PM me yr email.
chek this out
