Maybe.....miniSD issue FIX - P3600 General

Well, to everybody that uses ANY miniSD (-512-1gb-2gb-4gb....however, NO SDHC are supported!), try this!
Note:
You MUST have an PC-side miniSD reader
You MUST have...a P3600 and a miniSD
DO NOT INSERT miniSD into PDA until is indicated.....
-Prepare the PDA:
Goto Start-> Programs-> ActiveSync
Open the ActiveSync's "Option" menu
Goto "Add Server" etc...
Fill the text boxes with ANY (fake) data.....do not import...you simply need to tap on "next"....
When you finish (tap on "Finish"), a fake Exhange Server Connection appears
Go back to ActiveSync main screen, tap on "Option"
NOW you can tap on "planning" (i think that the correct traslation from italian is this...)
Set both preferences to "Manually"
Tap "OK" (upper right corner...)
Go back again to ActiveSync's main screen
Tap again on the "Option" menu
Select the (fake) Exhange Server Connection and DELETE it
Now you need to edit the registry.....
(Istruction to edit the registry FROM PDA w/ software like "PHM Registry Editor")
Any security restriction OFF:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Policies\Policies]
Change the DWORD named "1005" to 40
Change the DWORD named "1001" to 1
Change the DWORD named "101a" to 1
Registry from Hive to File
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ObjectStore]
Change the DWORD named "RegistryType" to 0
SD issue fix
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager]
Change the DWORD named "PNPUnloadDelay" to 8196
Change the DWORD named "PNPWaitIODelay" to 8196
NOW, soft-reset the PDA !!
-Prepare the miniSD:
Download the "Panasonic SD format Tools" (its freeware, you can find it on the net...) and install it on your desktop
Put the miniSd into the PC-side reader
Format the miniSD using the "Panasonic Tool"
NOW, ONLY NOW, JUST NOW......you can insert the miniSD into the P3600 and star to using !!!

ANY miniSD (-512-1gb-2gb-4gb....however, NO SDHC are supported!)

Humm, never had a issue with miniSD, I used to use a 2gb sandisk, and I now use a mobymemory 4gb, as it can be seen on the attached video the 4gb also works nicely without modifying anything.

sounds great.
Can someoe confirm what this solutions is doing.
Why do you have to prepare the PDA ??

That is exactly what I'm looking out for, I think I'll stick with my 2GB until 4GB is properly confirmed...I know Matterhorn has been using it for ages now, but still, I used a 4GB SD on my iPaq for 6 months before it died.

I agree. I had 4gb MobyMemory card and it's fine until you get over 2gb of data on it. Now I have 2 x 2gb Sandisc cards and had no problems so far but it has only been a week. I did write them in diferent card readers a few times but still fine.

any comments?

A question......i'll try to DISABLE the "writing" on memory card....just to test an idea.....
somebody know how i can do it??
Maybe COVERING a pin.....or a registry hack...
Please, helpme!

The only problem I have is that I can not see the card in a USB card reader/writer (works a lot faster with maps and movies etc. with the external USB reader/writer)

(Edit: I just re-read your post. The procedure below will fix the shortcut in the Programs screen. If you were talking about the TomTom Today plug-in, it won't help. I am not sure which of the two you were referring to.)
There is a cute trick to solve this problem:
- connect your device to your PC
- on the PC, open ActiveSync's "Browse" (note: I use a German Windows, so my translation of menu items may be incorrect. In that case, try whatever sounds similar )
- browse to the TomTom directory on your SD card.
- right-click on the TomTome executable, select "copy"
- browse to the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs directory
- delete the old, dysfunctional shortcut to TomTom
- right-click anywhere in that directory, and select "paste as shortcut".
Amazingly, ActiveSync has now created a proper Windows Mobile style .lnk file for you. Press F2 to rename it to whatever you want. Note that you do not need to specify the .lnk extension.
Hope that solves your problem!
Cheers
Daniel
I didn't want to start an entire new thread on this and I searched but couldn't find the exact answer:
I'm waiting for my 8525 next week that I ordered from Cingular and want to use my new TT Navigator 6 software on my 8125 in the meantime. Will I be able to use the TomTom product code a second time when i receive my 8525 after I've already activated it on my 8125? So really not trying to do anything illegal, just want to use it for my personal use on my current phone while I wait for my new one.
Will the product code only work once? Has anyone loaded the software on a device, only to get a new device and then activate with no issues the second time on a new device?
Thanks. THIS FORUM ROCKS. My 8125 is a great device from all the tweaks I picked up here at XDA (especially OMAPCLOCK) and I've bookmarked at least 15 Hermes tweaks for my soon-to-arrive 8525.

mini-SDHC Issue......bad news

Ok, this is quite a bad news, i put my new Transcend 4GB miniSDHC card in my Athena, it shows up in the memory setting. You can put file and read file ok. But here is the problem, when you install the programs on miniSD, it install ok, but after you try to read it from start menu, it says either some file is missing or the program is not digitally signed!
It's not just one program, all my program which install on miniSD doesn't work, if you use file explorer to click the program, it works.....but not through start menu.
Anyone knows what's going on? I am now going to reinstall all these program in Micro Drive, not sure if that's going to cause slow reading speed or more power drain, but it's the only option now for me.

i am not sure how bad the battery will be if i use micro drive, but do you really think install on mini-SD is faster than micro drive?
NO!!, micro drive is much much faster, i have run the benchmark on these two, the micro drive is running at least 5 times faster than my high speed miniSD, and the index score of micro drive is way higher than the fastest file index device in the world (dell dx something). The micro drive also use FAT32 format.
So i guess i will keep my program there for now and see how the battery goes
i did the installation into storage card(transcend 4G mini SDHC)...

i have found the problem and solve it, it's to do with the name of the sd card, change it to "Stroage Card" and everything works great. So still, i don't know how much battery it drain for running programs on Micro drive, since all my programs are back to mini-SD now, but it does feel faster when you install in Micro drive i think

I got the same problem on my Dopod U1000 with TOSHIBA 2GB mini-SD, sometime the memory card is readable but the file structure is broken it case some software can not run after reset the device all resume to normal.
I think it is not only the SDHC problem.

it's not SDHC, it's the name of the SD card, you have to rename it Storage Card, otherwise software won't work
I have always retained the original name for my SD card (Storage Card), but on three occasions so far, the file structure and name were garbed when viewed with file explorer, or were simply missing. In one instance, I was editing an excel spreadsheet and suddenly found that I could not save it. I was forced to first save into the device, reset the device, then transfer the spreadsheet back to the storage card. I read from other forum that I'm not alone in having to reset to regain the Storage Card data.
Perhaps there is a bug in the ROM, Wu?
I haven't actually installed any programs on my 4 GB mini-SDHC card, but I have no problems running programs on the card. I've created shortcuts to Transport Tycoon, ScummVM and PTGmap and they're all running fine on the card...

What size of the SD-card is supported with Helmi's WM6 for BA?

Hi,
what is the size of your SD-card that you are using with your WM6 BA?
Does Helmi's ROM support up to 4GB card?
I'm asking because I'd like to buy a new one - preferable 4GB.
Thanks in advance
Phily
BA supports standard SD cards not the SDHC.
So if you manage to get more than 2gb on a regular SD card that would work.
I guess that there is one company that make 4g regular SD cards.
I have 4GB card (Platinum brand) that is not SDHC and works fine in BA. Ideal for multiple navigation systems.
I think Transcend have 4 GB card that is reported to work in ba
(I have not tryed it)

Not possible until skilled programmer rewrite the SD Bus driver
SDHC
what about this? (WARNING THIS HP offers warez aswell, but following links are, so far I know, to free ware! So please do not warn, kick or ban me for this links.)
Page Link -- http://myppc.ru/2007/09/14/sdhc_driver.html
File Link -- http://myppc.ru/uploads/files/myppc.ru-1881_sdhc.rar
Is it the same? I would like to install it, but I'm aware, if it could scratch my device....
The given page actually is a good newsticker for PPC programs, I like it even more, than HPC.ru
if this cab should work, then even SDHC Cards with more then 32GB should probably work aswell....
wfg. - Mihail
Mihail: on the list there is NO BlueAngel. Installing it won't kill your device, you will just loose SD card access (and you will need to reverse the operation or make hard reset to get back the access).
We need SD driver made especially for BlueAngel.
List only tells,
on which devices this driver was already applied! Not for which devices it is maid!
That's why!
Mikhail: test it and report. Make backup before and prepare for HR.
Test to 50%
O don't have any SDHC cards! So I could only test, if this cab allows to use SD-Cards, not more... but I will do it!
HTC driver - but not BA
Is not working for BA.... and I'm not a progger (and for shure not a disassembler/hacker) to change this.
So you just confirmed what we said. Please confirm it on your own before publishing any new "breakthru" news.
sd bus driver
Does any one you think that it is possible to use the bsquare development kits to build support for higher/faster sd cards for blue angel?
If you had source code for the SD reader driver and knew how to update it to support SDHC (by hand probably) yes, this is doable with ANY devkit. Without this you are left with desassembling and analysing it in assembler/C.
sd card
hmm i am a high level programmer. (But I like to dive into the subject for giving something back to this community) (I can program in C but have never build a driver before) (Assembly is far beyond my scope) Though I have some good system programmers in my business environment. I will post my findings in this thread and maybe it's a good idea to change the direction of this thread to making this possible (and the way to doing it) instead of asking which is the max card working on the blue angel. Making the BA take advantage of the new generation SD cards is IMHO a very important step.

SD as RAM???

1. Open a new folder “Volatile” on the SD card
2. Change the following key, using the registry editor:
from \HKLM\System\Filesys TempPath = \Application Data\Volatile
to \HKLM\System\Filesys TempPath = \Storage Card\Volatile
3. Turn off the pocket pc with the power button for about 30 sec (not soft reset/hard reset).
4. Turn it on again.
Found this on another site and was wondering is this possible? Well thanks ahead. JD

The comment for it says this:
That "tweak" listed only changes where some programs store temporary files. PocketRAR, amongst others, uses that directory to temporarily extract files to when it is working...
This is not "using SD as virtual memory" as the name suggests, it is simply moving the "Temp" directory.

yeah my connection wouldn't load it untill just a minute ago and I was about to edit it so dangit....... I thought I found something good.
Well is it possible to do this maybe like in Vista?
u mean ' Ready Boost' ?
SD Card's reading speed is too slow....not as fast as RS-MMC
yeah ready boost, although I am using a 2 gig sd card now in my laptop just for that so it does work. But for WM it seems unlikely. I just am a wishful thinker, even though 512m to 1gig ram in a ppc sounds soooo cool. LOL
i've seen a thread discussing about 1G or 2G RAM...
and u can google it if u are interest in....
the key to upgrade is to buy a propiate IC part for Hermes(and we've already worked out which IC can be used for hermes.)
ok thanks I'll check into it more
it's not sd cards which is too slow it's
the sd interface of the pocketpc's which are slow
well that and the fact that wm dont currently support
readyboost
I dont understand it should be possible to do this??? so its a hardware limitation? or do you think a person can con-coct a bit of code which allows this??
it's deep inside the the core of os

That's the key.
WinCE 5 now has a memory management limit
it can only support 32 process in 32MB...
and WinCE 6 provides more efficiency management on memory and cancelled the limit on 32MB for 32 process....
So, let's waiting 4 WM6.1...
windows mobile 6.1 is not based on ce6 it's still ce5 like wm6
and mem allo size dont have to do what can be allocated as mem
not sure if ce6 even support something like readyboost

Format Micro SDHC 6GB?

Can anyone tell me how to format micro SDHC 6GB card on my TyTn II?
I cant format on my pc, it says "Can not format"
I use Resco Explorer 2007. It can format the storage cards in the device. Its not free but well worth the price:
http://www.resco.net/pocketpc/explorer/default.asp
You might want to be careful as the memory card might be a fake one if bought from Ebay. I have bought a memory stick pro duo on ebay and it came out to be a fake memory card. It had a capacity rating of 2gb but whenever I placed files onto the memory card after a certain amount, the files became corrupted and did not work. It showed that it was still there but the actual file when tried to open didn't work. Trying to format it was a pain in the butt as well.
