Can't find any reference to this issue, so I'm hoping someone might be able to assist.
I installed a legal copy of Tomtom 5.21 on the 8525 and it works great, except for the fact that the screen doesn't stay on or locks when there's no device activity for more then 5 minutes. I have the device being used on battery and the power settings will only allow me to extend the backlight to 5 minutes. Since I use the Tomtom rather infrequently, I don't want to disable the backlight setting. Also the device is set to lock after 15 minutes, which I know is short, but trying to adhere to corporate standards on this setting. Shouldn't the Tomtom software handle the function to control overriding the device lock threshold? I know it should, because when I used the software on a Treo 650, the screen lock function was defeated while Tomtom was running. Am I missing something (a setting or reg key) that would give me the same functionality on the 8525? It is quite annoying to have to either unlock the device after it locks while driving, or risk the possibility of forgetting to re-enable the setting if I manually disable it.
Any advise is much appreciated.
TIA.
Try this:
Settings -> System Tab -> Power -> Advanced tab
uncheck the "Turn off device if not used for" box.
Start TeleNav, go to preferences. Make sure that backlight is set to always on. I have never had any problems with this. Hope it works
Thanks....both very good suggestions, but my main issue is the security kicking in, and the device locking after X minutes. As I stated previously, shouldn't Tomtom defeat the device lock while the software is active? Is there a way to defeat with an alternative method, such a a batch file that would disable the device lock, run Tomtom, then when Tomtom exits, re-enable the security of locking the device?
Any further input would be greatly appreciated.
TIA.

Hi,
My mobile gets locked after 20minutes of user-inactivity due to corporate security restrictions. This can unfortunately not be turned on.
This is extremely annoying when I use my phone as navigation system (tomtom) as I have to press the screen or a key every 20 minutes or less in order for the phone not to go to the lock screen.
Does anyone know how I can simulate some user interaction? It should preferably be an action that does not actually activate anything (e.g. it does not actually do a screen or button press) as this could interfere with the software running (in my case TomTom).
thanks in advance
You can disable the lock.
First you need to enable the box under "Settings -> Personal -> Lock" again to be able to untick it.
This can be done in the registry:
HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\00001023
0 = Enabled; 1 = Disabled
Then install Zenyee.com Stay Unlock.cab and soft reset your device.
This program will prevent the lock to be activated again.
thanks I will try that.

Hi kimusan,
I have a mortscript running in the background (Whenever I start my Navigation, because my screen will switch off after 2 minutes). The mort-script sleeps 60 seconds and after that it resets the timer. Then sleeps again and so on.
I start the the script directly with my navigation program and stop it after the window of the navigation does no longer exists...
If you need the script-file I will send it to you...
For my PPC it works really well.
Hope this will help.

I have a problem with my Touch HD in the way that everytime the screen shuts down the GPS seems to shut down. Regardless if I Push the power button or if I let it shut down by itself.
For example if I'm recording a track it will make a straight line from the point where the screen shuts down to the point where I turn it on.
I'm using Garmin Mobile XT and Kartex (a software from the Swedish lantmäteriet).
Have been using both softwares on my old E-ten Glofiish X800 and it worked fine.

I think the problem is that its not the screen that turns off, but your device is going into suspend mode.
You will need an application which prevents the suspend mode and turns just the display off.
Is there a way to keep the GPS on in suspend mode?
Is there a way to change the registry so the GPS would not shut down in suspend mode? If not, what application would you recommend to use to only turn of display but not put the device in the suspend mode?

Install MobileMagic from here,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=449654
On the options tab, choose GPS while power off.
I was just about to suggest the same thing. Mobile Magic allow for GPS to work while in suspended mode. There is even a feature that automatically calls upon what ever GPS app you have to start automatically when GPS signals are detected. Pretty cool not to mention a slue of other features this nifty app has.
Thanks gadgetuk437 and band27! Great app although a little bit too "robust" as I don't need the screen rotation & all other features. I guess I will only start it when I need to use GPS.

I am in the same boat using GPS Watch which provides a track which can be outputted to Google Earth
Is there a registry hack that will allow the GPS to continue to be operated when powered off?
Thanks
Thank you gadgetuk437 and band27 for your advice but I don´t seem to get MobileMagic to work.
I have installed it and I have choosen autostart, start hidden and GPS power when power off. Have done nothing else.
MobileMagic autostarts hidden but doesn't prevent the GPS from turning off.
I have been using screenoff but that app doesn't really work either.
I raised the question at HTC as well and got the answer that this is something that is done by design in order to reduce the battery consumption.
I just don't understand why, If I didn't want to waste power I would of course close the GPS app before i turning of the screen.
Yeah, same here. After some testing I realized Mobilemagic's function doesn't really work. Even thought I also have the function to keep the GPS on selected my Garmin Mobile XT still looses the GPS fix as soon as the device goes into standby

I'm away to do the same...
I have Garmin Mobile XT with the Snowranger map sets for tracking my snowboarding runs. I also want to leave the phone in my pocket all day and track where I've been!
I tried it a couple of weeks ago with my Diamond whilst running. I had the music player running and Garmin tracking me - and it kept my log file (which I imported to google earth) over my whole 45min run.
Hi all,
When I use my GPS software (Sygic Drive) my pda turns off the backlight of the screen even if the software is designed to avoid it...
Is there any way to solve this? I can disable the backlight countdown option in the settings menu, but if there is another way it could make me very happy
Thanks in advance!

If your gps software can't take over Windows Settings, the only way is like you said. Turning off the option in Power Save. I don't have that problem with iGO8 when on a route. if used as Map only, showing my location, it goes off. I haven't tested Live Search or Pharos with this last build(21202). Unless one of the Registry Guru's might have a registry edit to solve your problem. Good Luck, I know your frustration. I had it with iGO8 till I found the setting to keep light on.
Hi all,
I have an issue concerning the use of Igo 8 with my HTC HD2:
I have set a security password to lock the phone after 0 minutes (classic windows mobile pin code): while I am using Igo 8 the lock screen comes automatically after a few seconds and it is of course disturbing since I need to see the map while driving ;-)
On the settings of Igo 8 the "Backlight always on" option is activated...
For information I use to do the same with my former HTC TOUCH HD and it worked perfectly...
Thanks for your support.
Same problem here, even without a password.
Did you find a solution?
sys.txt
dont know the exact answer but try searching for sys.txt
sure i've seen this in a forum somewhere, its a line added to the sys.txt
good luck
i had the same problem, but to fix this, you have to set your windows device lock settings to something other than "0 minutes" i suggest "12Hours" then igo shouldnt go back to the lock screen, . but now the bad thing about doing this is you phone will not lock automatically, unless you manually lock it with the power button or lock button. doesnt matter to me but to some people it might be a bother. and also, make sure igo>> devive>> power settings is at "backlight always on"
Hello guys, I happened to find a working solution for this, though it's too late for your guys.
My Previous Setting:
1, Switch off backlight after 10 seconds and switch off device after 1 min;
2, Password protected using WM6.5 system Lock after 0 minute;
3, Igo set to "Backlight Always On".
So when igo is navigating, the device always locks itself after some some seconds;
My solution:
1, Install a very small app called SmartLock developed by Chobit Company, it's very small only about 50k!
2, Go to SmartLock's setting and tick "Dim Lock" and "Suspend after Lock"
Done! You still have your password lock future without being locked when driving. When not using iGo, 10 seconds backlight is off, so SmartLock triggers WM6.5 lock;
while when driving IGO backlight always is on which prevent system smartlock trigging the system lock. You can even uninstall smartlock afterwards and it still works!
Hi,
When i had my prophet before i could run GPS Tuner (or other GPS Softwares) and turn off the screen (button on top i mean) without having any difficulties. Now with the Iolite i have the problem, that when i turn off the screen the GPS gets turned off as well (as if the thing goes into standby)..
Is there any way just to make it run the software and the GPS no matter if the screen is on or off?
Just go to task manager and add it as exclusive. However it trade off with high battery consumption rate
Or you can use attached registry change. However, I am not sure if it is working as I didn't checked it yet. Maybe you can try it and inform us, if it is working.

there are 2 ways which might be helpful to your problem, but i am not quite sure.
1. some nav software will provide such options that will keep screen on or turn on screen whenever instruction is comeing.
2. before you start to use nav software, go /start menu/setup/system/background light/, uncheck device off and check screen off after xx minutes.
just try, good luck!

What exactly does this file do? Does it keep the GPS running even if your phone is on StandBy (screen and buttons turned off)?
I'm in search of the same solution. I want to keep my GPS program running, but I want to turn the screen and buttons of, when I put it in my pocket.
Or is there a separate program which can simulate a standby?
