I just installed Molski's newest ROM. It is amazing. I one bug that I can not figure out. When I plug in my headset the external speaker continues to play sound. This is very frustrating. Please if any one could help it would be awesome. Thanks erik.

I had the same problem once. In the end for me it turned out in a hard reset to solve the problem. This after I found it was no hardware problem. Since then it never occured again.

I have had this problem too, it appears that its a driver problem with the rom, where a gpio needs to be set to disable the external speakers. This causes echo on the voip software that I use when I use the headset. A reset with the headphones plugged in at boot up seems to fix it for me.
I am going to be trying different roms, I am not happy with any of the newer ones that I have tried.

There is a fix for this. It's in the wiki I believe. You might try looking there.

Reverted to shipped ROM now no sound...

I did a BIGROM hack a while ago but have had lots of problems including random reboots, the stylus not working properly despite numerous screen calibrations etc.
I searched on Google for the latest T-Mobile UK ROM and found MA_TMUK_11300_128_11200_Ship.exe.
The ROM appeared to install properly but I now have no sound. Nothing from the speakers and nothing from the earpiece.
Can anyone offer any advice or share similar experiences?
Edit : Just plugged in the headphones and they work :?
Have you tried a hard-reset, this solved my simular sound prob. this weekend. I didn't update my rom, but go for it what can you lose besides data. A second rom-update might fix it too, when hard-reset fails.

Random Popping Sound

Has anyone here had any random popping sounds from there phone. Every now and then I will be sitting there and my phone will start making these faint popping sounds. It is loud enough for me to hear it. Should I take it in and have it looked at. I can hopefully avoid this as I would need to return to stock, but not really a big deal considering I have done it multiple times anyways.
Thanks.
yep, mine does it too. when this happens it usually means that my speaker output is going to be very, VERY low. The only way to fix is it to reboot it only happened when i started using 2.2 roms.

Random question (but this mattered for me). Do you have "shopkick" installed?

Random popping and ticking coming from the handset speaker
Hello everyone.I am also experiencing this issue with the handset speaker popping and ticking. It seems to be associated with bluetooth and aggravated by USB charging.
I am curious what headsets other users that are experiencing this problem are using. I am using a Jawbone ERA and I suspect that it may be related to the advanced capabilities of the headset.
I have spoken to users that have Motorola headsets that say they have never had the problem.
I have also received a replacement phone and had the same problem with the new one.
The more info we can gather the closer we should get to a solution so please chime in with your info.
Thanks!
ya take it back to sprint... hope ya got TEP!!! thats what i did today cause along with that *popping* the phone would ring through my earpiece spkr... at least until i rebooted..

This has been a well known bug on all froyo builds. There is no workaround or fix as of yet. Gingerbread does not have this anomaly from what I've seen.
I am personally using a jabra extreme headset FWIW.. I would also get the popping sound after the phone was paired to the radio in my truck (Clarion CZ-500)...
I'm currently running EE03 (the ACS leaked swiss cheese version) and do not experience this anomaly.
Hope this helps
The popping sound is due to pairing with bluetooth and then unpairing / charging. I thought it was only a2dp related but I guess not.

[Q] Trouble using earphones

Sometimes when I plug my earphones in, the music player shows it as playing, but there's no sound in the earphones. When i remove them, it works fine through the speakers. Tried using different earphones, but same result. Have to restart the phone to be able to use the earphones again.
I have been experiencing this problem since 3 days now.
Has anybody else experienced similar problems? Any solution?
I'm using stock Gingerbread on Moto Defy+.
Please ask all questions in Q&A. Thread moved there.
At first, I see only 2 options, despite trying another ROM:
1 - Try other music players.
2 - Be sure that you haven't changed any option in any Voice Search / Dialer. And if you have changed, try to reset to default options.

Hmn... in tha case, there's still a lot of things to do.
If the problem is with the phone's jack, you can try to clean it with a blow or compressed air.
There's a bunch of apps, like Ringo Pro, that are known to cause some similar issues, as reported in this thread: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/6f261e8427?commentId=564506#564506
After all, if you'r not willing to root and flash other roms in your phone, you might also try bluetooth earphones.

[Q] CM 10.2 mic and hear speaker audio not working on phone calls

Ok, so I've been using CM nightlies for a very long time. I've never had any major issues unless many others were reporting the same trouble. So now, I've decided to upgrade to 10.2 since it's been a few days already and there are not major issues reported. I upgraded fine except that I do not get any sound at all when on a phone call. The mic isn't working nor can I hear anything from the headset.
The strange thing is that if I put the phone on speaker, I can hear the conversation and the mic is working. If I switch it back, it stops. I've tried the mic and sound in many other apps and everything seems ok except for when making calls. You can see how this is a big issue. If I revert back to CM 10.1, I don't have any problems. As soon as I go back to 10.2, same issue again.
I don't see anyone else reporting the same issue. Here's what I've done so far to try to fix this. I did a complete wipe, lost everything on the phone. I made sure I had the latest gapps. I tried without wiping coming from 10.1 as well. I did all the fix permission in ROM manager. I don't really know what else to do at this point since nothing seems to be working.
Does anyone else have this issue? I'll try stock 4.3 and see what happens but I wanted to share and get some feedback from here as well.
I have you seen s you. Have you found a solution yet? When I use a bluetooth headset it works Fine
You need to update your radio

I had the same issue, updating the radio fixed it for me. I chose 33.84. You can get the radio firmware from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2358931

Try the app soundabout from the play store. Tell it to send audio to earpiece and under wired headset uncheck everything.
If mic doesn't work check out my thread in general section. Worked for me.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app

I tried that and that app and messed with different settings and it didn't work. I'm gonna try updating the radio and see what that does.

Huge thanks for this one. I had been searching google for a solution to this one for a week or so now. I will have to say, the most annoying thing I've had to deal with in quite some time. I should have just come to XDA first like an adult.

Sorry, but I don't know if this applies to the Samsung S4. I would try posting over in the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 forum.

[Q]i9505 periodic no sound and mic problem

Hello,
i've found some threads here with similar problems but they all were a result of wrong baseband used after a custom rom installation.
BUT i bought a i9505 with stock 4.4.2 TW rom UGNG8 (not rooted). At some point i noticed that the phone loses sound and mic completly. Sometimes can take a call but with no sound, neather can the caller hear me, no sound from music/video player and no system sounds eather(not even with headphones plugged in). Everything goes back to normal after a reboot.
I figured it was an outdated baseband so i rooted the device, updated the baseband to the latest (UGNK4) and installed CM12. But the problem is still here. At random times the device loses all sound and only a reboot fixes it
Haven't been able to reproduce the exact moment when it happen as it seem to be completly random (gets really anoying when i need to take an important call and there is no sound )
I could really use some help with this
Cheers,
H.
Rule of thumb: If it happens across multiple roms then it is most probably a hardware issue.
I'd suggest flashing the stock rom back and see if it helps.
Make sure it's the stock rom for the country where the phone was initially bought.
For instance: If the phone was bought from Germany but you're using it in England, it is still a German version of the S4 and therefor needs the German version.

thanks for the reply, i will try the stock firmware, maybe i missed something in the process earlier, and post back the results.
cheers,
H.
Fixed!
ok, after a lot of trial and error i narrowed it down to a hardware issue. The headphone jack was the thing making all the problems. i tried cleaning it but it didnt help, so i removed it. Device works flawless now. Already ordered a new jack. :good:
So to anyone having a similar issue -replacing (or just removing) the headphone jack does the trick.
Cheers,
H.
