From what I could find on the internet:
you can call a SIP number or address from Yahoo Voice,
you can call a yahoo account with another SIP provider/client,
But you cannot use a yahoo account to login over SIP to a yahoo SIP server.
You need Yahoo's IM client to do so.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
I hope this helps.

I thought I was clear when I wrote "you cannot use a yahoo account to login over SIP to a yahoo SIP server."
But let me translate it in plain English for you: the answer is NO.
If you cannot use a regular SIP client (like X-lite) to do VoIP over the Yahoo service, you will not be able to use the client in WM6. Sorry...

Even with WM6, no way to use yahoo Voice Out?
It's been about 6 months since I've seen a relevant discussion on using SIP to access Yahoo Messenger's voice out VOIP service.
I'm using a Hermes with the latest Schap 4.22 WM 6 Rom.
I'm a paying member of Yahoo Messenger voice out service.
I've tried configuring the VOIP info as:
Yahoo SIP proxy is 68.142.233.146, port 5061
I can't make internet calling calls.
Has there been any progress?
Thanks!

Hello everyone!
Situation: I have several VoIP provider (sipgate, 1und1...) My problem is I can only setup a single provider in my phone with built-in WM6 VoIP client.
Solution attempt: I set up an account with pbxes.org. There I added my SIP providers and an extension with username and password. Now I tried to set this up using the Sip Config Tool V2.0.1. Here are the settings:
Sip Server: pbxes.org Port: 5060
(tried others like sip.pbxes.org(com) and the IP)
username: username-extension_number
password: password
That's it. It's not working. The Today Internet-Calling-plugin tells me "searching....", but never to "selected"
I also tried using x-lite on my desktop pc. With the same settings I successfully registered and I was able to use pbxes just as it is supposed to be.
When using sipgate directly with WM6 it works, but not with pbxes.
I am kind of running out of ideas. So any help is really appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Stefan
Tried several times as well on my S620.
Now, two days ago got a S710 and was curious to test VOIP on it.
Very first time I tried I was thinking everything was fine, at least nearly.
The Today plugin showed "Searching" (like with providers it works with)
The icon for Internet Phone showed up.
Unfortunately it "semi worked" only that time, any other tests I tried the Today Plugin didn't even get into "Searching".
The bad thing is that it did work once, like meaning it could work. Now PBXES status shows as Registered but it isn't actually. The other bad thing is that I tried to post in their forum for help but didn't receive much info back.
Bad luck, but I'll try and try again. Maybe newer files one of these days and our probs would be solved.

Subscribe message
I ever check the message from sip server, I found that windows mobile voip client not only send register message, but also try to send subscribe message, I guess that it is reason that some sip server only may work as registra, and not handle correctly subscribe. it seems the reason the client always display "searching", I will try to modify sip server to support subscribe message in the future.
try fring
try using fring...
it supports multiple sip accounts.. and actually register u not just subscribe you.
You are right, Fring or any other 3rd party app connecting to a SIP server can work maybe better than the "builtin" SIP functionality but personally would prefer being able to use a solution where I dial like usual and calls get automatically router to VOIP, not having to switch to a separate app.
This is why I'd rather like the builtin sip stack to work on its own with any SIP provider. I tested it with PBXES but doesn't work. I'm currently renting a VPS with Asterisk (Trixbox) installed and it does connect. Only prob is that even if it manages to register, seems MS VOIP implementation is still not really compatible or suitable for the use I wish to have.

This is an old thread but this is the same problem I have on my HTC HD2 (Leo).
Installed sip drivers and voip config cabs and configured it with my account through pbxes and it is not working.
Can someone help?
Android (Moto droid, HTC Hero) I had no problem with pbxes and sipdroid...
Hello,
i just got my Hero and I'm now trying to setup my POP email account using HTC mail. I'm using the same settings which i had on my HTC Diamond but for some stupid reason i cannot setup the outgoing SMTP server on the Hero.
No matter what I do, i always get a
"550 Administrative prohibition" from the outgoing mail server.
However, i can receive email using the same account information, just sending does not work
Any hints?
have you turned authentication on for the outgoing server?
that error suggests you haven't and it is blocking you because of it!

Yes, i have. Actually, when i turn it off i do not get any error messages during account setup but then again i cannot send any mail in the HTC mail app
The above error occurs when the HTC mail setup prog tries to verfiy the settings with the smtp server.
Do you use a different username for your smtp server? That flatout refuses to work for me in HTC Mail, I would suggest you try K-9 a much better email app.

No, it's the same username (=email address).
ok, next one to try, i know on my server, the username is the email address bbut with a + instead of the @. Usually i don;t have to use it and the @ sign works, but some programs i have to use the +
could that be it?
Nope, sorry. That didn't do the trick as well.
Meanwhile i read on some other forums that it depends on the mail server, that's why some work and some won't. As it seems the HTC Mail app is sending a "script" (whatever) during account setup that is treated as malicious by the server and ignored therefore.
I am trying to figure out why my HTC HD2 will not send emails from my handset. Although the emails are coming thru to my HTC HD2.
Kinda getting me annoyed, as I have DOUBLED check the settings with the same settings on my MS outlook 2007 via the PC, they should match up - i'm guessing?
Any idea's what could be wrong?
Cheers.
Hello,
i had the same problem. You should not configure your email account in the manila tab. Delete your account, go to start (windows button) and E-Mail. when you configure here your email account, it should work (worked for me).
Somewhere I read that you should do all future changes in settings of accounts also this way and never use the manila tap for configurations of email settings...

Have tried that... still no joy.
The email just sits in the OUTBOX, and doesn't get sent.
When mailing over WiFi or through PC use your 'home' internet providers' smtp server. When mailing over your mobile network, use your phone company's smtp server. That's the way it goes with internet.
Or use an smtp server that handles both, but they are rare (unless you have your own domain name).
my yahoo does not send email but my google email can. try using a google email.
Some providers require the "Outgoing server requires authentication" tickbox selected.

actually most of the network providers (certainly in the uk) give you an email account with your phone number, or at least allow you to register for one through them, and generally they allow smtp sending from any network.

I have no problem with sending or receiving e-mail via yahoo mail.
Incoming mail server is pop.mail.yahoo.com whilst outgoing is smtp.mail.yahoo.com. Account type is POP3. Option is selected for "Outgoing server requires authentication".
It worked for my Tilt
I have been experiencing these same problems for the last couple of weeks and gave up thinking MS has done the dirty on us again. But after trying to send an important email to a bank and seeing it fail repeatedly, I decided to do something. All the other posts on problems sending email suggest downloading the MS patch which I did, changing port numbers, which I did not do, did not work. What did work is that I checked the box for outgoing mail authentication!
Phew I can keep my Tilt WM6.1 standard build for a while longer now........
Thanks guys.
Hello All! Forever I've wanted my mail combined in the stock app, but Yahoo! IMAP wouldn't work over wi-fi without using K9, etc. I tried again and have success thanks to mtwebster's git commit: http://github.com/CyanogenMod/android_packages_apps_Email/commits/froyo
If you want your Yahoo! mail in the stock email (vanilla email client, not htc) app, add your IMAP account manually as usual and use the following incoming and outgoing servers:
Incoming server: imap.next.mail.yahoo.com
Outgoing server: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
I've tested it and it works great for me! I now have a combined mailbox with my Exchange (work) mail and my yahoo mail and can access both via Wi-Fi or 3G!
Enjoy
i dont know about the "next" command in ur first string..but ive always used :
INCOMING : imap.mail.yahoo.com
OUTGOING : smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
im sure ur way works..but theres an alternative if the first way doesnt work for anyone for some odd reason

Hey SoCal. I saw your other post about ordering your Dinc. I think you'll love it! Welcome!
As for the servers, the ones you listed are the ones I had and they will NOT work via Wi-Fi (except if using K9 mail and I hate that ugly @ss icon and wanted one mail client and one inbox for all of my mail) but work fine over 3G. That's why I had to find the others. Give it a test and you won't even be able to add your account to the stock client while connected to a wireless access point. It will keep telling you "The username or password are not correct". When I'm at home or at work, I'm always connected to wireless, so not being able to get my mail is unacceptable.
Thanks for the reply, though!
awesome catch then eh? kudos on that!
and thanks for the welcome. being on an HDPI device is gonna be a bit of a learning curve as far as development goes..but im sure with a bit of the forum help ill be able to find my way just fine.
not working for me...

This is the regular plain-jane HTC mail app? I tried using these server names to set up my regular yahoo (not y-plus) account...left SSL and default ports unchanged. I had to switch to 3G-only even to get past the incoming server page in manual setup. I got the account set up, but with WiFi active I get the same old errormsg.
Is yours still working? I wonder what we did differently.

No, that was on the vanilla email client when I was using Ruby. I tried with the htc client and got the same issue that you did. I might have to restore my ruby backup and see if it still works and what the ssl settings are.
EDIT: I just verified that this works on the vanilla email client, via wifi, with security set to none but won't work on the htc client.
Typed on my Incredible phone!
What server do I use to setup my sipgate account?
What is this sipgate? Is it VoIP? Sorry first time I've heard about it. More info please and what are you using it for?

It's quite simple.
Go to Sipgate, Login to your Account.
And under "Settings" you find all necessary Infos to setup the Account in the Tab.
For me (German) Server is sipgate.de .
BTW. Sipdroid works fine with Sipgate on the Tab.
