I'm wondering if it's true that, we wizard user can't surf or transfer data and also have calls come in. Also cause this phone isn't 3g?
If so is there a tweak or program that will boot you off wifi or internet that you are doing, and have the call come in. I mean it's a phone no point have a phone if calls can't come in.
thanxs would like to know if anyone have an answer for this.

The fact that you cannot talk and surf at the same time has nothing to do with 3G. GSM/GPRS is capable of being able to talk on the phone and have a data connection. You have to have a GSM Class A device to do both at the same time. The Wizard is a Class B device. You can read more about this here http://www.gsmworld.com/technology/gprs/class.shtml Scroll down to the bottom.
If you are missing calls, it might have something to do with your provider. I have T-Mobile USA, and my phone is connected to GPRS/EDGE almost constantly. I don't miss calls. When you have an incoming call, your provider should suspend the data session to allow the voice call to come though.
Understood.
Thanxs d0ug for straighten all the question I had about it.
Hi
Ive had my Advantage for two days now, and i have missed 16 calls, even though the phone is on and has full signal, after playing around this afternoon it appears to be if there is a data connection active (GPRS) ie active sync live search maps, remote desktop calls get rejected.
Ive had an JasJar for the past year and never seemed to get the issue with that, and im using the same SIM / Network / Number i was before.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get the phone to pause the data connection so the phone can ring?
Does anyone else have the same issue?
Regards
Ben

you don't happens to be using Vodafone do you? If so i know exactly what is going on.....
Nope
No, i am on tmobile UK, what i don't get is that i works fine if i swap the sim back to my JasJar.
Ben
I miss calls all the time, about 70% of my calls fail for some reason or another.
T-Mobile Suck. I never had this much trouble with O2.
I have done experiments where somebody stood next to me calls me, and gets "the number you are calling is not available" while my phone, next to them is turned on with full battery and signal...
Even outgoing calls fail randomly, just says "calling" for ages then stops for no reason.
Ive had not trouble with tmobile since i have been with them (over 18 months) until i got the advantage, ive cloned every single setting i can from my jasjar and still no look, its a shame as looks like im going to have to disable push email!

that is strange, mine one now works perfectly, so when you miss your call, are you on 3.5G( HSDPA ) network or are you on GPRS?

Standard GPRS, it only happens when there is a contasnt data flow if it is just connected and the connection is not being used it calls in fine.
EG if i use remote desktop / terminal services over GPRS then call the advtange at the same time it goes to answer phone, although it does take around 10 seconds before it does though but doesn't ring, like it is looking for a signal/trying to connect.

may i ask is there any reason why you are not using 3G? GPRS tend to have this problem, but 3G won't.

Coverage, my house and my office don't have 3G coverage, else i would be.
i was on o2 b4 n hardly ever had 3g signal n when i did my video calling never worked....since moving 2 t-mobile ive had no problem....my data connection is mon 9 till 6 b it 3.5g, 3g or gprs n i use cortado.com push email service for instant emails.....i still receive calls when connected
using the flext 50 with web n walk
I'm in the US using T-Mobile and GPRS and don't have this problem. I'll try to make it "break" and see if I experience the problem but just never noticed it.
If using GPRS and a call comes at the exact time you are receiving data, your call will go to voice mail or unanswered. Its the way the radio is designed...SOme carriers have been successful at ending the data stream and raising the priority of the voice. But GPRS modem in most phones only allows data or voice not both...but,
If using 3g/utms it should ring on the phone. And allow data and voice at the same time.
Maybe you universal is grabbing the 3g signal and for some reason the 7500 is using gprs.
Wu has also reported this problem with Vodaphone and Hsdpa...

that is very correct, i have just change to T-Mobile yesterday, now my HSDPA works perfectly with voice, when voices comes in, it will switch the network to 3G and allow voices to comes in, data is still connected, just lower the bandwidth. Too bad that this doesn't work on Vodafone
Has anyone found a solution for this?

there is no solution, the only thing you can do is swap your operator, or just don't use 3g at all....
Hello all,
This is my first post here...I have a TYTN, and am looking at ways to call another tytn phone(or any wm6 actually) through gprs, so to use the charge per meg and not the phones charge per minute. Ive tried with Fring and skype mobile, both give terrible delays. Is this at all possible through GPRS/EDGE? (I dont enable 3G cos local provider having issues atm).
Is there no specific application for two WM6 phones to communicate using GPRS? Can anyone recommend any other applications to test?
Thanks in advance,
Sorry if this has been asked before, but I been looking and didnt find anything..

Read it from Skype.
http://www.skype.com/download/skype/mobile/tipsandtricks.html
Yes, you do need 3G for Internet calling. However, you can always turn to Wifi for Internet calling. Regardless you have WM5 or WM6, GPRS/EDGE just doesn't have enough bandwidth for VoIP.

EDGE has plenty of bandwith for VoIP, in particular if you use GSM codec. Just the latency isn't great, but it will do.
So if Skype doesn't work, consider SIP.
gprs dont connect 2 phones
it's only a internet connection
it's transparent to both devices if
they talk to a phone or a pc
the only way 2 phones maybe can talk data with eachother is the
old data gsm which is limited to 9600Kboud which is much much slower then even gprs
SIP internet calling etc
Can someone help me please. You know the internet calling option on WM6, how for the love of money do you use it. I got skype which i use but i got no idea what this internt calling option is for because i dont know how to use it. HELPPPPPP PLEASEEEEEe
Internet calling is for using witha SIP server such as FWD or an inhouse Asterik/LCS box.
I searched around and was unable to find an answer to this.
When listening to streaming radio either through Last.fm or streamfurious I can not receive phone calls? If anyone calls me it goes directly to voice mail. As soon as I stop internet radio calls come through again.
Does anyone know of a way to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Doug
If your not on 3G then it is because you are using all of your 2G service. If you use 3G then you can use it for data and internet and 2G for texts and calls.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Bleh, wrong thread. Delete plz!

Not knowing exactly how our phones carry the signal for internet and voice calls that seems like a logical answer to me. Huge drag for me though I love turning on internet radio in the car and piping it through my system. Even on 2g it sounds and streams great. But the lack of not receiving calls I suppose I will have to stop that habit lol. Who knows when 3g will roll out in my area...
oh well. Thanks for the info.
Doug
It's true that it's impossible to use data and voice at the same time on 2g, but it's the app that should pauze itself for an incoming call. Or Android should have been able to do this! Atleast that was the case with my last phone. While checking something on internet, call display appeared on incoming calls and browser disappeared. Call ends, browser reappears.

Well maybe it is something that just has to be change with the current internet music streaming software. I have tried three different ones and they all do this so it doesn't look good for a pause feature when a call comes through.
I have no idea how hard that would be to add to the current software. I suppose if you had 3g you wouldn't worry about this but as we all know, T-Mobiles 3g coverage is lacking.

Hi guys, when i recieve or make a call, the GPRS connection drops off and im not able to browse or get emails during calls :confused :.. i was using a nokia N8 before n i was able to do the same on N8.. is there a patch or tweak that i can make to get the GPRS running while on call... never mind the battery drains .. it would be great if anyone could help me or give info on the same.. thanx in advance
These phones have only one channel and hence either voice or data can be active at a time. You cannot use GRPS and voice at the same time
well thats a bit dissapointing..but i can live with that i guess..
Oh! I never knew that limitation with i9003.
These so called smartphone seems too dumb in certain areas.
It is same even on iPhone

Even I use internet grps 2g & receive calls have never tried using internet & making a call too at the same time. May be there is some limitation not sure about this.
hmm...have you tried browsing while on a call?
The thing is that u can recieve the calls even when on gprs 2g but it seems the connection gets cut off while on a call, but there is no issue of not recieving a call..

falex007 .. i dont think there should be a problem like that.. i tether the gprs with my pc through kies and i do recieve calls while its tethered..
The problem is not with the phone, its the way 2G works. It works on a single channel for GPRS and voice. SMS is on diff channel.
That is why we hv 3G!!!
