Hi guys, when i recieve or make a call, the GPRS connection drops off and im not able to browse or get emails during calls :confused :.. i was using a nokia N8 before n i was able to do the same on N8.. is there a patch or tweak that i can make to get the GPRS running while on call... never mind the battery drains .. it would be great if anyone could help me or give info on the same.. thanx in advance
These phones have only one channel and hence either voice or data can be active at a time. You cannot use GRPS and voice at the same time
well thats a bit dissapointing..but i can live with that i guess..
Oh! I never knew that limitation with i9003.
These so called smartphone seems too dumb in certain areas.
It is same even on iPhone

Even I use internet grps 2g & receive calls have never tried using internet & making a call too at the same time. May be there is some limitation not sure about this.
hmm...have you tried browsing while on a call?
The thing is that u can recieve the calls even when on gprs 2g but it seems the connection gets cut off while on a call, but there is no issue of not recieving a call..

falex007 .. i dont think there should be a problem like that.. i tether the gprs with my pc through kies and i do recieve calls while its tethered..
The problem is not with the phone, its the way 2G works. It works on a single channel for GPRS and voice. SMS is on diff channel.
That is why we hv 3G!!!

Hi
Ive had my Advantage for two days now, and i have missed 16 calls, even though the phone is on and has full signal, after playing around this afternoon it appears to be if there is a data connection active (GPRS) ie active sync live search maps, remote desktop calls get rejected.
Ive had an JasJar for the past year and never seemed to get the issue with that, and im using the same SIM / Network / Number i was before.
Does anyone have any ideas how to get the phone to pause the data connection so the phone can ring?
Does anyone else have the same issue?
Regards
Ben

you don't happens to be using Vodafone do you? If so i know exactly what is going on.....
Nope
No, i am on tmobile UK, what i don't get is that i works fine if i swap the sim back to my JasJar.
Ben
I miss calls all the time, about 70% of my calls fail for some reason or another.
T-Mobile Suck. I never had this much trouble with O2.
I have done experiments where somebody stood next to me calls me, and gets "the number you are calling is not available" while my phone, next to them is turned on with full battery and signal...
Even outgoing calls fail randomly, just says "calling" for ages then stops for no reason.
Ive had not trouble with tmobile since i have been with them (over 18 months) until i got the advantage, ive cloned every single setting i can from my jasjar and still no look, its a shame as looks like im going to have to disable push email!

that is strange, mine one now works perfectly, so when you miss your call, are you on 3.5G( HSDPA ) network or are you on GPRS?

Standard GPRS, it only happens when there is a contasnt data flow if it is just connected and the connection is not being used it calls in fine.
EG if i use remote desktop / terminal services over GPRS then call the advtange at the same time it goes to answer phone, although it does take around 10 seconds before it does though but doesn't ring, like it is looking for a signal/trying to connect.

Coverage, my house and my office don't have 3G coverage, else i would be.
i was on o2 b4 n hardly ever had 3g signal n when i did my video calling never worked....since moving 2 t-mobile ive had no problem....my data connection is mon 9 till 6 b it 3.5g, 3g or gprs n i use cortado.com push email service for instant emails.....i still receive calls when connected
using the flext 50 with web n walk
I'm in the US using T-Mobile and GPRS and don't have this problem. I'll try to make it "break" and see if I experience the problem but just never noticed it.
If using GPRS and a call comes at the exact time you are receiving data, your call will go to voice mail or unanswered. Its the way the radio is designed...SOme carriers have been successful at ending the data stream and raising the priority of the voice. But GPRS modem in most phones only allows data or voice not both...but,
If using 3g/utms it should ring on the phone. And allow data and voice at the same time.
Maybe you universal is grabbing the 3g signal and for some reason the 7500 is using gprs.
Wu has also reported this problem with Vodaphone and Hsdpa...

that is very correct, i have just change to T-Mobile yesterday, now my HSDPA works perfectly with voice, when voices comes in, it will switch the network to 3G and allow voices to comes in, data is still connected, just lower the bandwidth. Too bad that this doesn't work on Vodafone

there is no solution, the only thing you can do is swap your operator, or just don't use 3g at all....
I am using my Touch Dual for one week now and i must say i really enjoy it.
However I had a problem that while calling sometimes my phone would just end the call.
First of all i thougth that my ear was pressing the screen, casuing it to end the conversation so i installed slideactions, and slide to unlock.
Tonight i had a phone conversation and it end the call 4 (!?) times!
After the first time it stopped the conversation i made sure my ear was not touching the screen but still it stopped the call.
Does anyone have an idea what could be causing this? I really like the phone but i absolutely hate it that it quits my calls alot!
Kind regards,
Montezume
I get the same problem. I find it happens when the phones trying to change between 3G and GPRS but still when I turned off 3G I still get the problem its really anoyying. What operator are you with? Im with orange there pretty dam poor for coverage.

My provider is Hi.
I use Nodata to turn of all the other connections, how can you turn of the 3g mode?
go to start>settings>phone>band>and select gsm mode
hope it works!
Might be a stupid question but what is the difference between 3g and Gsm?
I never use any internet connection so there is no need to have 3g turned on, or does it also have affect on normal calls?
3G is for fast data connection, and videocalling.
So if you use neither of them, it's best to just use gsm.
3G has less coverage than gsm, and more important: i't reduces battery life greatly

Cool, thanks for the explanation.
i changed my network type from auto to GSM.
can i just leave the GSM/UMTS-band option on auto?
I also have experienced this problem here in Australia. Very annoying, and even more so its wasting my credit!

It cuts off the Mobile Network when you get a call, as 3G while in a call is useless. After the call, the 3G cuts back on.
Thanks for the heads up was just making sure. I dont understand this part of the phone just the os level.
So, anyone find out what was fixed/updated?
Seems a lil faster. Youtubes still borked. I guess theres some wifi issues fixed as well.

You mean when sending or receiving a text message? That's still there.
HTC calls that a "feature". I guess they don't know that's a battery killer.

A GSM advantage. CDMA doesn't support simultaneous Voice/Data transmission.

This even reigns true with sending sms too. Hence switching to 1x when sending sms
explains why droid demonstrated the multitasking when using picture/mms/sms at the same time and the browser, instead of doing so during a call
Fire, you didn't know CDMA couldn't do simultaneous voice and data?

No, just when browsing, or doing nothing at all. The previous update was suppose to fix it, but then many of us noticed that update fix it partially. From what I have read and seen, the problem occurs way, way less now, but still not fully fixed. I had two different HTC tech support say that they kind of goofed up with that issue as its still not properly fixed.

I think I read somewhere on this site a while back CDMA can support it now with the latest rev, but it would be fairly costly for the carriers to implement, and with 4G around the corner it is not worth their money to do so, unless phone manufactures really pressure and demand for it.
why sometimes my mum complains that your phone is switched off even when my phone is on.I aam drunk atm, sorry for my grammsar.
In the morning, when you're not drunk.... ask again.. hopefully be a bit more coherent then?!

this happens to me too! I'm not talking about the being drunk part but about complains in regard to the phone being off and missing calls. I'm keeping it on GSM not 3G.
I would imagine this has something to do with the network, although it never happened on my blackberry curve (which was also on GSM not 3G)... who knows...?

Wait, what?
Your phone is off, of course you'll miss calls. It's like saying you missed a TV show because your TV was off. Am I missing something here?
In translation.. I think what they're saying is that when their phones are ON sometimes calls go directly to voicemail even if they appear to have a signal... Sounds like a network problem..
This happens sometimes when your phone is fetching data from internet on your phone and someone is trying to call you .

That would make sense.
It does sound like a network problem. One of the benefits of 3G/GSM over CDMA is the ability to simultaneously transmit data and voice.

Nope. When you're on EDGE/GPRS, if you're using the data connection, the connection would be suspended - if it's active - and the call would come in, having priority. And besides, why wouldn't this happen to every phone, in this scenario, if what you're saying is true?
It's not a network problem. The fact is when you are on 2G, you simply cannot receive calls while downloading/uploading data.
Personally, never happened to me, but did to a friend.
And just saw an article about the same problem in the iPhone 3G.

I'm gonna test that as soon as I have 2 phone laying around.
I'm in Europe, in RO and i am trying to use Galaxy tab as a phone and as a tablet.
Orange told me that they have only one data plan for Galaxy tab that does not include any talk minutes.(35 eur with 15Gb data)
Afters 2 hours of negotiations on the phone, they agreed to give me 2 services on the same SIM, so i can have both voice and data.
For that i had to cancel my data plan which was on a separate SIM (takes 30 days)
In this time they called me and told me that Galaxy Tab cannot make voice calls.
I told them that i tried and IT WORKED.
They said that Galaxy tab can make only video calls over 3G and if it worked then i will pay a 3G video call.
I checked my invoice anyway to be sure that this was not the case.
I think that Operators will do anything, including telling lies, only to make sure we wont use-it as a phone !
Did any of you had the same problems ?
And anyone knows how to check if a call is over 3G or not ?
If you use the phone, then it's not over 3g, sounds like they are lying.
Be careful though, if they don't think you are allowed calls, there might be hidden charges

First of all, if you've a Euro Tab, it can make regular GSMs calls no problem.
However, if you really want to check this, you need to got to:
Settings->Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks
and set Network Mode to GSM only.
If you can make a call, you're absolutely, definitely, not using 3G!

Dave
