AKU 3.3: How to change stream (rtsp) handler - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi.
iMate released a few days ago a firmware upgrade for its JasJam. In it there a program pvplayer allowing you to watch streaming video.
I have installed AKU 3.3 (HTC Qtek South Africa) when I tap to watch a video in internet explorer (on the Telstra/Foxtel site), it automatically opens "Streaming Media", which will fail saying that it can't open the stream.
How can I make it so it opens "pvplayer" instead?
When you start pvplayer, there is no way to manually make it open a URL...
Thanks
JY

Always start Streaming Media application
It's very frustrating.
I have tried with a few different application: pvplayer, realplayer, Philips player4 etc...
No matter what, the rtsp stream always open with the "Streaming Media" application and then fail...
JY

I found the following keys in the AKU 3.3 registry:
First one is:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{EA48DF9C-1362-41F2-BD83-B97507F9484B}\InprocServer32]
"ThreadingModel"="Free"
@="RtspHandler.dll"
Other being:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp\Shell]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp\Shell\Open]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\rtsp\Shell\Open\Command]
@="StreamingPlayer.exe %1"
I have changed it to
"\Program Files\Video Player\PVPlayer.exe" "%1"
But it still doesn't work. Always open the stream with StreamingPlayer.exe

Found it !
I had to delete this key:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PROTOCOLS\Handler\rtsp]
"CLSID"="{EA48DF9C-1362-41F2-BD83-B97507F9484B}"
this CLSID referencing:
RtspHandler.dll

Registry file extension with wild cards

Hi all
Has anyone tried to watch streaming video (i.e. Vodafone LiveTV) on a Wizard or Universal? The PacketVideo Player for PPC would actually support the video/audio stream. The only thing I am struggling with is the following:
- The streams use a so called SDP file (Stream Descriptor). Now the thing with Vodafone LiveTV is, that they use arguments after the .sdp ending (i.e. rtsp://server/liveTV.sdp?key=1239809809824&session=2345jhb234lkj). Since the media players only register the plain .sdp extension in the registry, the media player gets not launched when I click on the web-link because of the arguments!
Does anyone know a solution how to register a file extension with wild cards (i.e. .sdp*) or how to map a protocol (rtsp) to a program?
Thanks!

Getting ORB to play Fullscreen ...

Hi,
I am trying to get ORB play on my Universal but as you know WMP does not play fullscreen.
Looking on the internet I found this reg tweak:
Use a registry editor..
Go here..
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:WMPLAYER
change,
String 1
from wmplayer.exe
to "\Program Files\TCMP\player.exe"
with quotes.. that's assuming that you have TCMP installed there. That should be it. Now the orb streams should open in TCMP instead of WMP10.
But when I try it, I get an error message nagging about TCMP is not signed aplication or is missing components. TCMP runs fine when I start it from the program menu.
has anybody an idea how to fix it ?
Cheers.

Streaming video in WMP....help..:)

Hi,
I'm using the Orb app from www.orb.com, which allows you to stream any media you have on you pc over the net. It allows me to stream my videos with wmp on my EXEC!!!!
However, here's the problem... The video is encoded by orb to a lower resolution than 640x480 and therefore cannot be displayed full screen in wmp.
I have 2 questions to hopefully give me a way of fixing my problem...
1. Is there any other media plyer for the exec that can play stream files?
2. If not, is there a way to modify wmp in any way with a reg/hex editor to make it display full screen?
cheers guys!!
P.S is there anyway to watch the stream from shoutcast tv in WINAMP on the Exec??
what's the URL in WMP?
orb is awesome ... i'm using it to stream live tv to my laptop from my MCE server, but how do you get it to stream to the EXEC?
when i try, pvplayer intercepts the .sdp file and then buffers to give me a low res .3gp display ... which over Wifi is pretty poor. as usual, any help appreciated ...
TIA
you don't put any URL into wmp directly, you have to browse to my.orb.com in pocket IE and then browse to your videos and thn just select the file....wmp will open up automatically....
To make sure it opens your video in wmp, you have to go into the setup section on my.orb.com and make sure that windows media player is set as your favourite player.
Only the problem with that is, is that you can't full screen it! Can anyone help with my original question?
Must admit tho ORB is awesome!!
P.S do you connect via wifi??? If you do can you check and see if you can get the videos to stream with realone player....cos then you'd be able to get full screen. I don't have wifi yet so can't test....
Let me know if that works!
yup, selecting windows media worked fine - somehow i had expected the setting to be server side! sorry didn't get a chance to check out real player ... maybe later today.
ok, regarding resize problem in WMP mobile - this is a known bug and since WMP is in ROM, you'll need to wait for HTC to provide fix ... maybe!
in the meantime, you may want to install TCPMP http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/TCPMP-Download-29994.html
and do a reg hack to switch default player, as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:WMPLAYER
change String 1
from wmplayer.exe
to
"\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe"
or
"\Storage Card\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe" if its installed on SD.
you will need at least version 0.71 o TCPMP which understands WMP10 http streams.
voila - full screen in landscape live streaming!
hi
just tried the modified registry entry and......zilch! can you confirm that the settings above work?
thanks
mikey mike
copy it exactly and it will work, quote symbols, capitals etc....
I had the same problem and hit my head when i relised that it was such a simple thing to fix.

I also had this problem. TCPMP worked great, but I could not get it to be the default. Then I tried keying it in exactly as posted on another thread including the quotes and it has worked great.
It is nice to have full screen. I use it to watch cable TV via gprs and wifi using orb. And also to watch saved TV shows or DVD's. Too Bad WMP does not have full screen. WMP seems to work better over GPRS.
It doesn't work on my MDA Pro. I have changed the string 1 like written above, but my defoult player is still WMP. I use TCPMP 0.71. Have tried program "My Extension" too, but WMP is still the defoult player. What culd be the reason?
After reading this thread ive downloaded ORB and got everything working but i want to use TCPMP as my default player (for full screen), but because im such a dummy i dont know how to do a reg hack. I have TCPMP already so can someone tell me where to start with this reg hack thing. Please Thankyou.
Thanks for the reg change. Just made the change exactly as posted above inlcuding the speech marks and it works great. ORB is a lot more useful with full screen video.
Have to make sure that you kill off media player before you test it either by a reset or some sort of task manager. Just using the X to close it isnt enough.
use phm (free) or by resco explorer to do the registry changes.
if youare a big user of these devices your going to need it.

TCPMP plugin for Flash video v0.4 released

It looks like a new version of the flash video (.flv) plugin for TCPMP was just recently released.
For those not in the know, it's a plugin designed to work with the great freeware media player TCPMP, that lets you play flash video files.
It is designed for Pocket PC 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 and higher. The plugin will never support the commercial successor to TCPMP CorePlayer (licensing issues).
This version allows you to play flv files directly over the internet via the site http://www.mobytube.net/ which lets your search and play YouTube and Google Video files via a mobile browser such as Pocket Internet Explorer.
I tried it out and it works great.
1.) For ease of use you should make sure TCPMP is associated with .m3u files.
2.) Then just visit http://www.mobytube.net/ with Pocket Internet Explorer (or Opera Mobile or other web browser that lets you download/launch files).
3.) Search for a video, once you find one you want to play, click on the video to download/launch the .m3u in TCPMP.
4.) Depending on your settings in TCPMP you might have to click the play button to start streaming the video.
wow, thanks for full info. i used prev versions, and it is very good thing.
btw, works fine in 0.81.
How do you install this on a Mogul/PPC-6800/WM6 and which one do I download?
You should first have TCPMP installed, download the Windows Mobile version from here:
http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/
Also, download/install any additional plugins you would like, though they're not required for playing back the flash videos.
Then download tcpmpflvplugin-v0.4.zip from here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939&package_id=232906
Unzip and copy the files in inside the zip file into the folder (not in a subfolder under it) where you have TCPMP install on your PDA (on my device this folder is located in \Program Files\TCPMP).
Make sure TCPMP is associated with .m3u files by :
1.) Starting TCPMP
2.) Taping on the "Options" menu item
3.) Choosing the "Settings" menu item
4.) Tapping on the "Select Page" button (lower right)
5.) Selecting the "File Associations" menu item.
6.) Selecting/Checking "M3U playlist files (M3U)" from the list.
7.) And then finally tapping the "OK" button.
The plugin is corrupt
*edit* for some reason FireFox was downloading it incorrectly.
thanks for the heads up - 0.3 always worked well but went and upgrade to 0.4 anyway. cheers.

Is that Coreplayer 0.81 or is there a TCPMP 0.81? Latest TCPMP I found is 0.72RC
New release: tcpmpflvplugin-v0.4.2
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=196939
This plugin is just brilliant.
Warning : it COULD eventually induce a slight addictive usage of your PPC.
Great development, but only works for mobytube.net and .m3u files.
Can't play directly from youtube.
I'd love for this plugin to be made compatible with smartphones 2003SE (with TCPMP).
Can't understand why WM2003SE arn't supported?

You Don't need Pocket Streamer, Resco Radio, etc. If you use TCPMP /Class 101 How To:

Its simple. All you need is to make a .pls file in Notepad. save it. Put it in Windows/Start Menu and it will open in TCPMP player. Just modify one.
All you need to know is the streaming URL address.
Example:
The Alex Jones Show:
If you right click and (open with) open the .pls file in Notepad ;
Just change the Url from (http://............. .com) to the one you want.
Don't change anything else. ... Save. .... copy to phone.
Hell make a folder and you got your own Streaming Radio Stations.
You don't need Pocket Streamer, Resco Radio, etc.
Here are 3 you can fool with.
Thanks for this.
Nice one. But how many URL we need, one for every station?
shweet...will this work for video Podcasts as well????
Actually, you can simply choose file/open from TCPMP menu and copy&paste the station's URL into the address bar on the top of the screen. It will connect and start streaming.
But i personally prefer MortPlayer for audio streaming - you can define a list of radio stations/streams you like to listen to within the player itself (open/streams/manage streams), and the list will be stored in the player, so there will be no need to open a different .pls files if you want to listen to internet radio or local music.
I can't open a Stream with Mortplayer.. Don't know why.. But with Coreplayer it works.
sure you can copy and paste urls but thats not any fun. the .pls files you make will sit in a folder and all you gotta do is click on em.
Yes it will work with video streams as long as you have the url address.
and yes you have make one for every URL. When you use Resco or pocket streamer, there is a separate url for every station you tune into.
thanks a lot will it work with siruis satellite radio stream too
I use a similar technique as well but I saved my playlist as .m3u after my last reinstall of TCPMP I lost the ability to play streams titled:
mms://streams.telegens.com/natiowideradio
For instance here is my Pri The World Playlist, you can see it very easy to edit the list by just changing a couple of digits in the Date ID field.

You can also get links form Today PDA. On your pda just copy the link and paste it into the program.
