Hi,
I'm using the Orb app from www.orb.com, which allows you to stream any media you have on you pc over the net. It allows me to stream my videos with wmp on my EXEC!!!!
However, here's the problem... The video is encoded by orb to a lower resolution than 640x480 and therefore cannot be displayed full screen in wmp.
I have 2 questions to hopefully give me a way of fixing my problem...
1. Is there any other media plyer for the exec that can play stream files?
2. If not, is there a way to modify wmp in any way with a reg/hex editor to make it display full screen?
cheers guys!!
P.S is there anyway to watch the stream from shoutcast tv in WINAMP on the Exec??
what's the URL in WMP?
orb is awesome ... i'm using it to stream live tv to my laptop from my MCE server, but how do you get it to stream to the EXEC?
when i try, pvplayer intercepts the .sdp file and then buffers to give me a low res .3gp display ... which over Wifi is pretty poor. as usual, any help appreciated ...
TIA
you don't put any URL into wmp directly, you have to browse to my.orb.com in pocket IE and then browse to your videos and thn just select the file....wmp will open up automatically....
To make sure it opens your video in wmp, you have to go into the setup section on my.orb.com and make sure that windows media player is set as your favourite player.
Only the problem with that is, is that you can't full screen it! Can anyone help with my original question?
Must admit tho ORB is awesome!!
P.S do you connect via wifi??? If you do can you check and see if you can get the videos to stream with realone player....cos then you'd be able to get full screen. I don't have wifi yet so can't test....
Let me know if that works!
yup, selecting windows media worked fine - somehow i had expected the setting to be server side! sorry didn't get a chance to check out real player ... maybe later today.
ok, regarding resize problem in WMP mobile - this is a known bug and since WMP is in ROM, you'll need to wait for HTC to provide fix ... maybe!
in the meantime, you may want to install TCPMP http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/TCPMP-Download-29994.html
and do a reg hack to switch default player, as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:WMPLAYER
change String 1
from wmplayer.exe
to
"\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe"
or
"\Storage Card\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe" if its installed on SD.
you will need at least version 0.71 o TCPMP which understands WMP10 http streams.
voila - full screen in landscape live streaming!
hi
just tried the modified registry entry and......zilch! can you confirm that the settings above work?
thanks
mikey mike
copy it exactly and it will work, quote symbols, capitals etc....
I had the same problem and hit my head when i relised that it was such a simple thing to fix.

I also had this problem. TCPMP worked great, but I could not get it to be the default. Then I tried keying it in exactly as posted on another thread including the quotes and it has worked great.
It is nice to have full screen. I use it to watch cable TV via gprs and wifi using orb. And also to watch saved TV shows or DVD's. Too Bad WMP does not have full screen. WMP seems to work better over GPRS.
It doesn't work on my MDA Pro. I have changed the string 1 like written above, but my defoult player is still WMP. I use TCPMP 0.71. Have tried program "My Extension" too, but WMP is still the defoult player. What culd be the reason?
After reading this thread ive downloaded ORB and got everything working but i want to use TCPMP as my default player (for full screen), but because im such a dummy i dont know how to do a reg hack. I have TCPMP already so can someone tell me where to start with this reg hack thing. Please Thankyou.
Thanks for the reg change. Just made the change exactly as posted above inlcuding the speech marks and it works great. ORB is a lot more useful with full screen video.
Have to make sure that you kill off media player before you test it either by a reset or some sort of task manager. Just using the X to close it isnt enough.
use phm (free) or by resco explorer to do the registry changes.
if youare a big user of these devices your going to need it.

Hi I recently installed Pocket DIVX player. Didn't like it so uninstalled it. Now Windows media Player 10 wont play my videos I recorded using XDA video recorder or mp3's unless I go through the Media Player library. When I try and play through file explorer I get the message "xxxx....cannot be opened Either it has not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file" This means I cannot have mp3 ringtones or play videos/music using file explore. Can anybody help?
anyone out there who can help?
hard reset, one of the problems of installing dodgy software...
try reinstalling the original application, then have all the default settings and file extension associations reassigned back to WMP10, then uninstall.
can try using tcpmp if that may provide an alternative.
never be afraid to hard reset, it only takes a while the first few times, and you get into a routine for it....
Maybe it's just a problem with file association? Not sure. Probably search the registry to see what program opens the MP3 and change it back to WM10
I'm probably wrong, but give it a shot
At the moment there is no programme associated with opening mp3's or the avi videos. Excuse my naivety but how do I do a hard reset? And what did you mean be re-install original application? Do you mean the Pocket Divx programme again? Thanks for your help by the way!

How do I search the registry?
To hard reset, select CLEAR STORAGE in the programs folder and then enter 1234. This will erase EVERYTHING saved on the phone and will return it to how it was when you first bught it, i think.
Regarding registry, use a registry editor. I use the one of Resco which comes with Resco File Explorer. There is a free one called TRE just look for it thru google.
Don't re-intall the Divx player, maybe re-install alll the other programs you installed in the first place when you bought it
Ok cheers I think the reset will be a last resort. All the programmes like WMP10 were pre installed on the phone so I dont have the disc and you can't seem to download WMP10 4pocket pc on the net. I think it's a case of trying to associate mp3's avi's etc with WMP10 as it seems to play wmv files no problem but I've tried everything to no avail What I can't understand is why mp3's and avi's can play on WMP10 by using the library and not through file explorer :? Once again thanks for your suggestions
the library and application itself understands that it can run the mp3 etc
however windows not wmp10 has associated the file extension ".mp3" to another application which no longer exists.
I have attached my file association for mp3 and avi from my registry. import it if you understand and acknowledge the risks with registry editing and I accept no responsibility AT ALL.
Hi mate. Thanks for your help. You were correct, in the registry mp3 and avi are were assigned to Pocket Divx I imported your 2registry edits using the registry editor TRE and avi and mp3 appear to be assigned to WMP but still no luck in playing them through file explorer. Any ideas on what to do next.
After a bit of browsing I've installed The Core Pocket Media Player (TCPMP) which seems to play everything no problem and has an option to associate files rather than force it upon you like Divx did. Thanks for all your help but i've given up on WMP10 if you come up with an answer to my problem please feel free to let me know
under hkey local machine there are settings for wmplayer default extensions, perhaps this has also been changed. I have these attached for you to compare.
I also found more under multimedia extensions for microsoft which could also have been changed. the only other location where references mp3 came up related to arcsoft multimedia, so after this you should also test this area to ensure that mms hasn't been changed.
see how you go, but you may never be able to fully undo the effects of dodgy software and incorrect installations.
let me know if you need further keys. note, I also use tcpmp for my videos due to full screen and have allowed this to superscede some of my own wmp10 settings.
cheers
I think we were writing simultaneously so thought I would write again to see if you are interested in trying the above.
if you associated them to tcpmp, you may need to run the previous edits again to reassociate.
your call leave it with you
I will give it a try but tcpmp seems pretty good so far so I may leave it but thanks for your help mate!
I have recently purchased an o2 xda mini s, and have been browsing through this site for about a week. been very impressed. i have a question for you - is there anyway of accessing my computer through the wireless lan? EG accessing the computer hard drive, and playing a film on the xda. thanks ben
Yes there is but I'm not sure how to do it on a "Vanilla" WM5 machine. I use Resco Explorer which is a commercial application but allows you to move the "Network" folder below "My Device" and connect to shared drives. These shared drives over the network (GPRS / WiFi / USB Active Sync etc) will then show up in ANY program which has a file browser.
I'm sure there is a way of doing it on a plain machine but Resco Explorer is so much easier and nicer for any kind of file manipulation....
nice one, im looking into it now
ok iv got resco, and im connected. i can see the network places, and i can acess my shared folder, but when i try to open a music file, media player opens and says the parameter is incorrect? anyone know what this means?!
You're right you know!
This is the only app on my device that has this problem (Well no surprises there seeing as it's MS s/w!)
I am using both Pocket Music and TCPMP (Free!) for video / music (TCPMP does both) and neither have that problem over the network.
Also try MortPlayer as that is another excellent skinnable player for FREE....
TCMP will access shared folders/files. Or should that be \\computer\shared_folder\media.files It works pretty well over wifi for me. If you are happy to create your playlist on your pc and stream to the PocketPC then Microsoft media encoder will do the job. I'm just looking into Orb www.orb.com which should allow me to view/listen to my media anywhere I have access to the internet on my Wizard.
Hope this helps,
Al
thats great, got tcpmp running really smooth, even without cutting the resolutions down. im very impressed. is there a way to make tcpmp the default application? iv always had symbian phones uptil now-which are considerably more stable, but not quite as manipulative iv noticed.
one other thing, is i had a prog for my symbian device that put my desktop up on the screen and gave me total control of the pc with it, do u kno of another app that will do this on ppc? thanks so much!

Change the file associations in tcpmp under options/settings/
thats great thanks!
Did some searching and found this older thread.
Basically, I was wondering if any body knows of a free prog, or reg hack, to make the network folder visible and then allow mapping the network drive?
I found an older prog caller NetRunner, from a Spanish site. It works on my older wm2003 devices (though it always asks for my pass work even if I tell it to save it) And it will work on my MDA, but I can only access the network drive through net runner. It won't show up in file explorer.
So any ideas? Thanks
Ok, Never mind.... I feel sheepish!
I have GSfinder installed and it allows you to show the network folder and to map the drive................
One question about it though- even time I soft power down the phone and turn it back on and try to browse my network drive it keeps asking for my password. Even if I tell it to save it..any way to fix this?
Thanks

This usually means that the music file type is not supported by windows media player. ie: asx,m3u,etc. In file explorer, does the music file you're trying to play have the wmp icon, or some other player icon beside it?
Hi guys
I'm trying to use TCPMP to stream my videos using ORB, i have tried this registery hack:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:WMPLAYER
change,
String 1
from wmplayer.exe
to "\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe"
But alll the videos still open with windows media player onmy pocket pc. I'm using TCPMP ver 0.71.
any help would be much appreciated
Try opening TCPMP>Options>File Associations page and then associate all by putting a check on each one except the music and picture files (since I use different softwares for pictures and music). It worked for me.
Thanks herbules that worked. great
hmm, that doesnt work for me. I get an error message saying "http://.../live.wmv unkown file format" (translated from dutch so may not be the exact message). I have the .wmv box checked at File Associations page and restared TCMP. I'm also using TCMP 0.71. The files I tried do work with WMP (but crappy). doen anybody have an idea? thanks in advance.
I checked everything except the audio and pictures at File Associations page and it worked, when i only checked wmv box it didnt work. So you can give that a try.

after associating TCPMP with all files except audio and music, I couldn't stream TV anymore although I could get to watch my videos on TCPMP via Orb. So it's a choice for me to be watching via TCPMP videos or tv streaming with media player, I chose TCPMP and not watch tv instead
Hi all
I hope all you Brits out there are enjoying the snow. My office is closed today so I thought I'd share my experience of using the BBC iPlayer. I believe it can work for you too, if you're UK based. N.B. at the moment it only works over WiFi. Don't blame me for that, it's the BBC's restriction on their website. Also, this worked on my Kaiser, so again no guarantees it'll work on other devices, but I see no reason why it wouldn't.
Here's what I did:
Install the Opera 9.5.15529 cab that are attached to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475986
You will also need HTC Streaming Media. I've attached a version available on this forum. I don't actually know whether this will work on your device as I have the sreaming media cooked into my ROM (see below). Obviously if you have a VGA device you should use the equivelant version of Opera for VGA devices.
There are two other files attached. ASPlayer.exe and ASPlayerLNK.lnk. ASPLayer.exe is infact VJBrisk.exe renamed from an installation of VJBrisk by Vijay555 and a renamed link to the sreaming media player application. If you are installing the Media Player app attached then you need to check the shortcut to ensure it's correct. The one attached is for the executible in the windows folder (\Windows\StreamingPlayer.exe). You can edit shortcuts on your device using TotalCommander.
Once you're happy that the link is correct, copy ASPlayer.exe and ASPlayerLNK.lnk to the \Windows directory of your device.
In Opera type: opera:config in the address bar. Scroll down to User Prefs and open this section. Go to Custom User-Agent. Here type "sgh-i900" without the quotes and then scroll down and select save. Exit Opera and restart it. Go to:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer
in Opera and you will see the mobile iPlayer page load up. Select your chosen TV or Radio programme and click to play. The streaming app should now open and display your programme.
Hope this helps. I watched "Who do you think you are?" with Rory Bremner in bed this morning!
Best wishes
andrew-in-woking
Thank you for this tut, I have followed your instructions and all seem to be ok (I didn't watch a video but the streaming media did kick in when i clicked play.
I will test later and get back to you

Hi
If the HTC Streaming Media doesn't work on the Xperia then you will need equivelant software. You could try the media player attached if nothing else works. Real player might work also. Obviously you'd need to manually edit the shortcut in this case but hopefully you can get it working.

Hi
Yes, this is the way the website behaves. Obviously the BBC believe that this is necessary at the moment as they'd rather no compromise on quality.
I guess for now this is not available for phones with no wifi connection. I'll change the first post to make this clearer.
Many thanks

Your post is it VGA or QVGA as sounds great
Almost there!
Thanks for your post, I'm using a Hermes wm6 with your htc streaming media installed. It opens up streaming media ok but then has an unknown error message (both for tv and radio). Could be running low on ram causing the problem. Also tried Skyfire but it doesn't like the IP address and doesn't recognise me as British. I am not giving up just yet though!
Just tried on a Touch... sound only however nothing at all on live streams (memory not an issue here, my ten year olds xmas pressie!)
QVGA

Hi wapvirus
It's QVGA but should work with a VGA device as long as the correct streaming media player is installed and can be linked to the ASPlayer.exe shortcut in \Windows.
Hope that helps. Love your QVGA colour task bar items by the way!

i got 'unknown error' for the htc streaming media player on my lg ks20. Any ideas? how do i link it to the ASPlayer.exe?
Help me plz
Still tryin on my hermes, the best player to date was a dopod version (works perfectly.... but no video!!! Sounds great). After a little search I stumble on an updated tcpmp player which should play the files ok BUT how do I change the ASPlayer to use this as default, or do I change one of the Streaming Media files to use tcpmp ? It will not let me change the aslink.ink page and I presume we leave the opera setting on sgh-i900. I think I have at least 10 different media and streaming players now installed & have become very confused...
shame this cant be make into apanel for the x1 like they have done with youtube

Hi redflag
The simple answer is that you need to edit the destination of the shortcut: ASPlayerLNK.lnk which you copy into windows along with ASPlayer.exe. This link can be edited with the file editor in Total Commander PPC. Hope that helps. If you're unsure about shortcut editing do a search for it on this forum.
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
Success... kind of
Thanks for your reply, have taken a flood day off work! Total Commander is not letting me save the edited LNK.Ink file so I went back and had another go at Skyfire and have got it working on both my hermes and on a touch. The only disappointment is that ,whilst Skyfire uses the main iplayer site which allows downloads, it doesn't feature live tv which yours does by using the mobile site. Keep up the good work!
Had problems getting video to work but when I used this version of the HTC Streaming Player it all worked fine!

media file not supported?
thanks andrew-in-working
so i followed you instructions...opera installed, streaming media, changed user pref. All goes very well from iplayer in opera, link to streaming media and then... streaming media opens, a black screen and 0% buffering message appears, it hangs for a while and tells me this:
"media file not supported"
any idea why it should state this? odd that it is not recognising a file type?
any help would be appreciated..
It seems like the basic music player doesn't support streams, there doesn't appear to be any support in windows media player for streams either...
In the end I searched for some tools and GSplayer came up as supporting streams, so i tried that and copied the CAB install file to the storage card, it showed up in the start menu...I can run it and open a URL or local .pls file and it starts to stream...you see the percentage buffer quickly shoot up to 100% but then nothing happens...no audio, nothing.
I'm basically trying to play audio from an internet radio station I use a lot at home (xfm.nl) if you click "Luister Live" on the left you'll see shortcuts for all the streams.
Can anyone help? My settings are OK I think, I can get to the internet and recieve my email and use all the web based apps, so I don't think its a connection thing...maybe GSPlayer just doesn't support the HD2?
Try Skyfire browser.

I have WunderRadio but since you know the stream you want to play coreplayer will open it.
I just tried this using Skyfire and GSPlayer.
I clicked on the Winamp mobile link, and it downloaded the .pls stream to my storage card. GSPlayer opened automatically. I've set GSPlayer to own .pls files, so maybe that would help.
Just tried clicking on the downloaded .pls file and it also opens up GSPlayer. Hope that helps! At least you know that it can work
I want to know something fairly similar, is it possible to make a player stream a song or file instead of having to download it first. Sometimes with very large files I just want to play it and let it download as it plays instead of waiting for the entire file to download before being able to play it.
Try Groovemobile or nanogroove.
I just upgraded from a Touch Pro 2.
I have a few shoutcast .pls files I used to open and stream in coreplayer 1.3.6 build 7427 with no problems.
I have changed from o2 to orange but all other streaming seems ok (e.g nanogroove/groovemobile/youtube/myplayer etc).
On the HD2 when I try to open the .pls files I get an unknown file format (0106) error or sometimes coreplayer just crashes.
Anyone know how to get coreplayer working with there files again?
I enjoy accessing last.fm using the skyfire browser.
Try SPB Radio, pretty good!
I just wanted to thank everyone posting suggestions, I will be trying some of them out soon
There is also coreplayer which handles .pls and .m3u file attachments.
