Streaming video in WMP....help..:)

Hi,
I'm using the Orb app from www.orb.com, which allows you to stream any media you have on you pc over the net. It allows me to stream my videos with wmp on my EXEC!!!!
However, here's the problem... The video is encoded by orb to a lower resolution than 640x480 and therefore cannot be displayed full screen in wmp.
I have 2 questions to hopefully give me a way of fixing my problem...
1. Is there any other media plyer for the exec that can play stream files?
2. If not, is there a way to modify wmp in any way with a reg/hex editor to make it display full screen?

what's the URL in WMP?
orb is awesome ... i'm using it to stream live tv to my laptop from my MCE server, but how do you get it to stream to the EXEC?
when i try, pvplayer intercepts the .sdp file and then buffers to give me a low res .3gp display ... which over Wifi is pretty poor. as usual, any help appreciated ...

you don't put any URL into wmp directly, you have to browse to my.orb.com in pocket IE and then browse to your videos and thn just select the file....wmp will open up automatically....
To make sure it opens your video in wmp, you have to go into the setup section on my.orb.com and make sure that windows media player is set as your favourite player.
Only the problem with that is, is that you can't full screen it! Can anyone help with my original question?
Must admit tho ORB is awesome!!
P.S do you connect via wifi??? If you do can you check and see if you can get the videos to stream with realone player....cos then you'd be able to get full screen. I don't have wifi yet so can't test....

yup, selecting windows media worked fine - somehow i had expected the setting to be server side! sorry didn't get a chance to check out real player ... maybe later today.
ok, regarding resize problem in WMP mobile - this is a known bug and since WMP is in ROM, you'll need to wait for HTC to provide fix ... maybe!
in the meantime, you may want to install TCPMP http://www.softpedia.com/progDownload/TCPMP-Download-29994.html
and do a reg hack to switch default player, as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:WMPLAYER
change String 1
from wmplayer.exe
to
"\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe"
or
"\Storage Card\Program Files\TCPMP\player.exe" if its installed on SD.
you will need at least version 0.71 o TCPMP which understands WMP10 http streams.
voila - full screen in landscape live streaming!

copy it exactly and it will work, quote symbols, capitals etc....
I had the same problem and hit my head when i relised that it was such a simple thing to fix.

I also had this problem. TCPMP worked great, but I could not get it to be the default. Then I tried keying it in exactly as posted on another thread including the quotes and it has worked great.
It is nice to have full screen. I use it to watch cable TV via gprs and wifi using orb. And also to watch saved TV shows or DVD's. Too Bad WMP does not have full screen. WMP seems to work better over GPRS.

It doesn't work on my MDA Pro. I have changed the string 1 like written above, but my defoult player is still WMP. I use TCPMP 0.71. Have tried program "My Extension" too, but WMP is still the defoult player. What culd be the reason?

After reading this thread ive downloaded ORB and got everything working but i want to use TCPMP as my default player (for full screen), but because im such a dummy i dont know how to do a reg hack. I have TCPMP already so can someone tell me where to start with this reg hack thing. Please Thankyou.

Thanks for the reg change. Just made the change exactly as posted above inlcuding the speech marks and it works great. ORB is a lot more useful with full screen video.
Have to make sure that you kill off media player before you test it either by a reset or some sort of task manager. Just using the X to close it isnt enough.

use phm (free) or by resco explorer to do the registry changes.
if youare a big user of these devices your going to need it.

Online BBC Radio on exec?

hey guys, could anyone point me in the right direction here? I like listening to BBC Radio2 and u can listen online. Is it possible to listen to it over GPRS/3g on the exec. I have given it a try but fails to work. Any advice? Thanks Euan

You need the Real player to work, and unfortunately as far as I know there is not yet a WM5 client available.

I'm pretty sure the existing WM2003 version will work though.
You should be able to find it somewhere on www.real.com, but you will need to d/l the relevant .ram file from the bbc website and open it in the player on your exec.

BBC Radio - mini How to guide for ppc
First off I tried this succcessfully on o2 Exec using Wifi.
In Theory it should work using 3G/GPRS connection, if your got a reasonable inexpensive data tarrif ??? :shock:

1. Get hold and install RealONEplayer for pocket pc from
www.real.com/player/mobile
the version I am using is 2.0.0.28 and currently not 100% WM5 optimised the only thing I've noticed is it doesn't like lanscape mode, so use it in portrait only.
2. Accessing the Radio
Open up PIE (MIE) on you pocket pc and browse to the BBC radio page
www.bbc.co.uk/radio
Click on the appropiate radio link (eg "Listen to Radio 1")
A popup dialog box will appear saying you don't have real player installed ....blah blah blah...just ignore it and click cancel (The website is setup for pc users)
Back on the web page click on the link "Listen using stand-alone Real Player"
The download dialog appears, make sure the tick box is ticked and select SAVE AS, save the .ram file to anywhere on your ppc.
After the quick download realONE player should automatically start and play the radio stream.
3. ram files :twisted:
I have attached the .ram files to Radio 1,2,3,4,5 and World Service here
so if you havent got time to download them just simply copy them to your ppc and open them up in realONE player.
(note .ram files are only small files which tell the realOne player where to find the stream for the audio. These files are valid and working as of 26-1-06)

radio on universal
i have downloaded the real player and the ram files, but when I try to connect real player says loading and then gives the following message "response or data from server timed out".
My PC next to the universal on the same wireless network plays the radio great.

mine works fine now.
I have not done anything other than a soft reboot, though I could not say that is what has cured it, it may just be coincidence.

realplayer works fine on wifi listening to radio, but when i tried over the gprs it times out.
i dont know if the phone speed can support the required data rate if you get a good signal, or streaming music just requires too much speed over gprs/3g for universal to support it.
Has anyone had this working over the phone connection.

According to my A-E Wi-Fi radio, BBC Radio 2 and Radio 4 stream at 44 kbps and for some reason Radio Ulster streams at 32 kbps. I suspect that these would be at the outer limits of GPRS although it should work with 3G I would have thought.

Went through it, but could not get what is there to do.
Really amazing that no solution has yet been planned.

Media Panel broken?

Well my media panel used to work fine. I could play music and watch the video clips that came with it. Now when I try to play music or watch videos the screen goes black like it's gonna start, then it just jumps back to the menu like nothing ever happened.
I think it's CorePlayer that's messing it up... must be something with the file extensions but I turned them all off and it still doesn't work. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. I always have Core Player installed. I just removed the media panel thinking it was sh*te

Same on my Xperia I think it was after i installed the Manila HD or the youtube cab.
I tried it with Uninstall the Manila HD but nothing happend.
i hope somebody will find a fix for the media panel, i really like it

have you install youtube by any chance recently?
it'll break the media panel, as well as the camera playback function.
if so, you may have to hard-reset, and install this version of youtube instead

unfortuantely, you need to hard reset in order for the CAB to work.
alternatively, if you do not wish to hard reset, change this registry to see if it'll help (this is the problematic registry, but this wouldn't undo the system files that are overwritten)
HKCU\CLSID\{C4EF1AB7-F52D-4e83-8C74-0C512FB7EA43}\InprocServer32
make sure Default=HTCSrcFlt3.dll (not HTCSrcFlt2.dll)

somebody has reported that the manila cab with the built-in youtube will not break 3gp/mp4 playback, are you not experiencing the same?
my CAB is tested with TF3DHD by Daran, and you can install my Youtube CAB, TF3DHD and TF3D Panel CAB in any order. You don't need to install any other CAB such as Dshow or mHubVO, and in fact, I've not tested if these other CABs (other than TF3DHD and Panel) will break the CAB that I have put together.
PS: I hardcode the installed files to \Windows directory, if your German ROM uses a different Windows directory name, I need to change.

OMG sorry for the trouble i testet another mp3 file (the standart one) and it worked.

This registry fix does in fact work. I applied it and both the native video camera player and the multimedia panel player worked. YouTube in the TF3D panel continued to work too.

my problem was the same, i found out that my mp3's had errors in the header,
so i used mp3Val to check and repair my mp3files after that I taggt it new with mp3tag
give your experia a bit of time to read the tags and sort the artists after that y'll maybe happy like me

Just curious... how do you get album art to appear in the multimedia panel for playing mp3's? I loaded the album art in iTunes and Winamp, both don't seem to work. Although when I play the songs in coreplayer, the album art comes up...

I added the album art with mp3tag.
I used ID3 v2.3. I tried to use ID3 v2.4 but there are no album covers on the media panel so i returned to ID3 v2.3.
You can easy change that in options of mp3tag

My problem is not a broken emdiapanel but a missing media panel.
I got a prototype from work(SonyEricsson) and it's one of the earlier prototypes and I'm missing a media panel on it. I tried to copy the media panel from the "program files" folder in a another Xperia phone, put that didn't work ofcourse....
So I'm wondering if there's a way to Impliment that panel???
I'm probably the only one with this problem but I'd appreciate help though

I'll just post my problem here aswell then;
When I try to view a video trough the media panel, media player or the camera application it just gives me a lot of loud static sounds and a black screen.
When trying to use youtube it loads the name of the movies but when I click them it says "Error: Cannot play this video".
I think, judging from what others have said, that the TF3D cab is causing this problem. I still got the "old" one but I wouldnt understand why installing the new one would solve my problem (if it does; please let me know and I'll try it, just dont want to do anything reckless atm).
There's been some suggestions in this topic for registry fixes, would those work for me aswell? Also, I dont even know how to alter the registry in the first place..

Does anyone know of a way of importing WMP11 playlists into the Media panel playlists? Don't really want to recreate and add all of my tracks into the Media panel playlists-they do not appear to be compatible withe each other!

shoutcast & Opera - easy streaming possible?

hi, i am currently looking for an easy and quick solution to make shoutcast in Opera allow to 'click and stream'. bsidds the apps shipped with the device I have MortPlayer installed. i have not yet the flah plugin. does it work? which version?
How could i set up Opera to start MortPlayer when I click on a stream?

I haven't tried it through Opera, but I can confirm it works through Internet Explorer. Just click Tune In, and it will launch whatever you have .pls files assigned to. (In my case, it launches Core Player and starts streaming the music.)

Hi,
Pb comes from "default.pls" wich is donwloaded for the streaming. This file is saved as "default". So ... impossible to lunch the a player !

It seems like the basic music player doesn't support streams, there doesn't appear to be any support in windows media player for streams either...
In the end I searched for some tools and GSplayer came up as supporting streams, so i tried that and copied the CAB install file to the storage card, it showed up in the start menu...I can run it and open a URL or local .pls file and it starts to stream...you see the percentage buffer quickly shoot up to 100% but then nothing happens...no audio, nothing.
I'm basically trying to play audio from an internet radio station I use a lot at home (xfm.nl) if you click "Luister Live" on the left you'll see shortcuts for all the streams.
Can anyone help? My settings are OK I think, I can get to the internet and recieve my email and use all the web based apps, so I don't think its a connection thing...maybe GSPlayer just doesn't support the HD2?

I have WunderRadio but since you know the stream you want to play coreplayer will open it.

I just tried this using Skyfire and GSPlayer.
I clicked on the Winamp mobile link, and it downloaded the .pls stream to my storage card. GSPlayer opened automatically. I've set GSPlayer to own .pls files, so maybe that would help.
Just tried clicking on the downloaded .pls file and it also opens up GSPlayer. Hope that helps! At least you know that it can work

I want to know something fairly similar, is it possible to make a player stream a song or file instead of having to download it first. Sometimes with very large files I just want to play it and let it download as it plays instead of waiting for the entire file to download before being able to play it.

Try Groovemobile or nanogroove.

I just upgraded from a Touch Pro 2.
I have a few shoutcast .pls files I used to open and stream in coreplayer 1.3.6 build 7427 with no problems.
I have changed from o2 to orange but all other streaming seems ok (e.g nanogroove/groovemobile/youtube/myplayer etc).
On the HD2 when I try to open the .pls files I get an unknown file format (0106) error or sometimes coreplayer just crashes.
Anyone know how to get coreplayer working with there files again?

I enjoy accessing last.fm using the skyfire browser.

There is also coreplayer which handles .pls and .m3u file attachments.
