Using SmartPhone Connect Plan on TyTn/8525? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

I've been thinking about switching from Tmobile to Cingular to benefit from their UMTS network.
Since I already have a TyTN I figured I would order a 3125 and get their Unlimited Smartphone Connect Plan.
I was wondering if this would work with the TyTN and what the settings are.
From what I've been reading online it seems that the Smartphone plan uses Cingular's wap proxy. I was wondering if this would affect the 3G performance.
I wouldn't use the TyTN for tethering (my monthly usage runs around 200-250MB, mostly mail and RSS).

Smartphone Connect Plan
I have the TyTn and have added the Cingular Extended Roms and all is working well... You can add the Cingular Wap settings via cab and depending on the Rom that you have installed, you may or may not have issues with the Express Mail settings and Phone Keypad...
Took me several days to figure out the right combination of Rom and Extended Roms, but I am happy at the moment...
debonairone

I thought I could manually configured the connection... I already have 2 mail accounts setup (one is my work Exchange (push) the other is my personal pop)... don't care much about XpressMail.
I'm running WM6 latest rom.

-If you need XpressMail, go with the SmartPhone connect.
-If you want 200 text messages/month, go with the MediaMax 200 Bundle
Both of those are $19.99, and give you unlimited internet
If you need VPN or isp.cingular, you'll have to get the more expensive PDA connect (or laptop connect) plans.
3G speed is not much worse on wap.cingular if it's worse at all. It's not difficult to setup the data accounts. There are actually very good tutorials on Cingular's website in the help section.

Thanks!
I have no use for the VPN at this point. Xpress mail may be a nice addition since right now I am pulling mail from my personal pop every 30min. Having the push option on this account as well would be nice.
I was just worries that the Smartphone connect plan would not work on a TyTN and that the wap proxy would make things slower (or prevent access to certain pages) but it looks like I'm getting a much cheaper deal yet retain pretty much all the functions I need!

Hi, I have the smartphone connect plan and am running it on my 8525. I bought the phone off eBay new in December and didn't want to get locked into a data contract for 2 years since my contract was up, so I bought the device outright and added this data plan.
I got the smartphone connect unlimited plan. I have been using this since then with good results. On my Cingular account section it actually shows that I have the 8525.
I am actually using it right now as a wireless modem. I have checked the speed and it's around 750 to 1mb overall. I believe it is using the wap.cingular and have full function. I have it pushing my email through my works exchange server and also use it for my personal msn account.

I am on the Cingular MediaNet plan....$19.99 works great here. One thing I would like to point out is that if you have t-mobile...you can just get the $4.99 t-zone..and you can surf all you want and checking emails. Too bad T-mobile's data speed is slow otherwise I would had kept my service.

wow thanks for all the tips! I didn't realize I could get the much cheaper tmobile plan as well.... i'm currently paying $30/month for unlimited data plus wifi which I never use anyways...
In any case from speaking with a few people i think the media max 200 seems like the smartest options as it offers unlimited data plus some text messages and i could use their media (TV) features if needed...
I just gotta figure out how to get the plan since it doesn't seem available to purchase with the Cingular 3125.

You can just add the features/plans you want online after you sign up for Cingular billing at the website.
I used to use T-Mobile as well, and I thought the $4.99 plan only gave you port 80 (http)? I was on an old $19.99/month plan which was unlimited GPRS/EDGE with no Hotspot, which I don't see as an option anymore.

T-Mobile Free GPRS problem

as of right now i cant get anything on the t-mobile free wap/gprs: cant load webpages and cant use AIM
anyone else get the same problem? thanx
Hi,
I've got exactly the same problem... stopped working about 4 days ago... tried everything... even a hard reset of my MDAIII... nothing did it... it does connect to GPRS, but then it doesn't do anything... the connection is established, it's not that the APN doesn't work or anything... it's just that no data comes through... any suggestions?
Treo
Same Issue
I'm having this problem with the wap.voicestream.com gateway on T-Mobile aswell. I contacted the Tmobile techs yesterday and they claim that there never has been (right) and never will be access to wap services over the XDA. The supposedly 'reset' my data connection, but this has no effect whatsoever on my ability to access the internet. Could T-Mobile finally do away with our free data (or in my case 4.99 for tzones)
Any further suggestions would be greatly helpful.
Best,
Matt
I just called t-mobile...
I just called t-mobile because I am having the same problem. The rep says that they finally closed the wap.voicestream.com loophole this past week and that's why it's not working. He said the only way I can get internet, e-mail, AIM etc.. is by paying the $19.99/month internet plan which is outrageous. So hopefully someone has suggestions on what to do...Is there a way to get access wth internet2.voicestream.com without paying the $19.99.
The rep was nice and said that wap.voicestream.com might still work with a wapbrowser.
I'll see if that works but either way say goodbye to your wireless XDA's!!!
Hi,
well, that's good and bad news... did he say whether the 19.99 add on is GPRS or not?... and which option is it exactly... I am willing to pay the extra bucks, but I want GPRS with a reasonable speed for that...
Ya- the internet2.voicestream.com is GPRS not so fast in my opinion- you really think it's worth $20 a month?
i'm not sure which server is which, but i use wap.voicestream.com with $4.99 t-zones and get wap speed but access to just about the entire web. the connection is way slow (do a search here for "test gprs speed" to compare my speed to others) but i don't care because i'm not a heavy user. also, i have to pay extra for any messaging that i do. i burnt agile messanger into my rom, and use it for aim occassionally; i pay $.05 for every message. unlimited email is included, but you have to use the my tmobile email bs. it's not bad, and email turnaround is usually 30 min. they will not allow me to have the $20 addon for gprs because of my credit class. i recently quite one of my jobs, selling cell phones, and can tell you that for $19.99 you get unlimited gprs everything, including IM. typical speed is 56kbps, although the network will support up to 114kbps (actual speed depends on signal strength, network traffic, blah, blah). Note that roaming is not inluded, so if you went to say NC, you will incur additional charges. anyway, post or pm me if you want to know more.
i'll screw around with different access points when i have time...
Wow- thsnks for the tips-
I installed a WAP browser last night and was able to access wap sites but I didn't even think of trying real sites until I read your post- and they work!! The speed is the same as before but I don't understand why these sites work on a WAP browser but not on IE.
Can you explain further on how to get e-mail with wap.voicestream.com. Before they closed the access I was able to just send and recieve using my POP-3 account. How can I do that now?
And for IM I used to use AIM for pocket PC using prt 80 but that has also stopped working.
I will try agile messenger when I get home- but why would that work and AIM not?
Also, I don't know why you pay $4.99 for t-zones when you can get the wap.voicestream.com access without it. I called t-mobile last night and they said that t-zones have nothing to do wth a pocket pc at all and from my experience they are right. i have been using wap.voicestream.com for months now without t-zones.
Thanks,
Daniel
what the hell is happening ? I am on my XDA right now using IE with wap.voicestream.com . AIM and my email works. Hopefully it's back up and this isn;t just a tease.
Hi,
no such luck here... I still don't get anything through wap.voicestream.com ... even though I even signed up for unlimited t-zones now... the 4.99 one... just to see whether that would get me anything... but no... not even wap sites work...
Even stranger... trying internet2.voicestream.com gets me the "Modem disconnected" crap, but actually, for a second or so, it works, loading parts of pages... any idea?
Treo
In order to use the email setup that I have, you have to have T-zones. Basicly, you go to "my tmobile" at tmobile.com, and click on my email. put in the info and it will send your phone program call that sets it up automaticly, or you can put it in manually. If you have the developer SE rom, it won't work, becuase they removed the programs that allow your carrier to program your phone. Also, I think "my email" only appears on "my tmobile" if you sign up for tzones. You tell thier server your emial info ,it checks your mail, and then forwards a copy to your phone...
As far as why stuff won't work......
OK. the way it used to work...
You could put in the server, blah, blah, blah..... and get just about free everything.
BUT THEN.....
T-Mobile started gearing up for T-zones. A new concept where they make money off of people accessing the internet through wireless devices. Makes sense. BUT this is a VERY LARGE and INTRICATE network of computers LANS and WANS not to mention GPRS connections. SO, T-zones is implemented across the network, hurridly, so not everything is 100%. Some geographic areas still allow unauthorized (free) access, becuase not all the equipment is set up correctly. On top of that, if your device confuses the network, you might sitll get free access. Some devices do, some don't. IF you sign up for T-zones with win 2003 and set up wap.voicestream.com as the access point using GPRS/Cellular, then you should be able to go to PIE, put in an address, and it will fire up WAP or WWW. Some wallabies/himilayas just won't do it (radio and rom ver???)(to the best of my knowledge). It is what I have been using for quite some time and it's what I'm using right now.Right now I still have WWW access, but not IM (agile will not sign on anymore (aim)).
I also happen to know that they are performing MAJOR system wide maintainance right now in geographical blocks. I had a problem and called cust care, and then asked my T-Mo rep about it. Sure enough, they are updateing alot of equipment. So this might explain why my AIM is out.
Ports are only unlocked when the system unlocks them (IE you paid for access) or somehow those ports were just never locked on your account (IE your lucky).
Short of the long.... in VA (where I am) I have access with what I have setup. In other parts of th country, it might not work.
If you just buy hte GPRS package, then stop screwing around with us, call customer care, and keep reaming new a$$holes in customer service reps, until you get what you want.
Do a search for "free unlimited GPRS" find all words. About 2/3 down the page, someone announces that it only works with 2003. That's where I set up my connection from. I don't specify anything but wap.voicestream.com.
Anyway.....I'm very busy, but will try to check back tommorrow.
On my MDA II, Agile doesnt connect through APN=WAP gprs. In their manual, they say it should connect!
I'd like to upload pictures from my device. My provider is Orange NL
I want to use APN=WAP, because it is free.
any idea?
Hi,
well... I've been quite on an adventure with T-Mobile GPRS... I purchased their 4.99 unlimited t-zones add-on after my free GPRS didn't work anymore... couple days later I was back online with wap.voicestream.com ... now, about 5 days ago, internet stops working again... no http... but my email still works... so, I figure they are blocking port 80 for some reason... to test that I was going to start a proxy server on one of my webservers... to see whether I can tunnel http through one of the open mail ports... what do you think about this... do other people have the same issues?
Treo
I had no problem sending HTTP thru port 110 to Squid running on my server.
Check this out too:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=517786
Looks like that person is using T-Mobile's proxy server to surf both HTTP and WAP.
I just got of the phone with Cus Care. EXCELENT. I actually got someone who owns a wallaby, and cooks his own roms. This is much different from the normal pageturner I end up haveing to deal with!
Anyway, the damn 6315 required the network to be revamped, and the bastards ended up cutting out tzones for wallabies. now it's $20 unlimited GPRS or nothing.... dirty bastards.
I got the Tmobile WAP working again!
I have the 4.99 tzones. Mail always worked. The web stopped working earlier this month.
I installed NetFront 3.1 and use 216.155.165.50 port 8080 in the proxy settings. Works like a charm. NetFront is cool too. Beats the stew out of Pocket IE.
Does anyone know how to remove Pocket IE...I could really use the room.
GPRS IE Now Working on T-Mobile
I have an XDA II running 1.72.181 and using the Blackberry mail with internet and voice plans on T-Mobile. My internet also stopped working a week or so ago. T-Mobile unable to help because "XDA is not supported device..." I believe my problem stems from the same network changes that are mentioned above related to HP PPC.
Anyhow, based on Fuzzie's post and info, I set a new wap.voicestream.com connection up under My Work Settings, set up the proxy based on fuzzie's IP info and, hey presto!, internet browsing restored!! Have to stop the blackberry client and connect using the My Work connection BEFORE launching IE, but small price to pay to get my internet connection back!!
Thanks to all for the leads and data!!
Regards
Chris
Were you on an Internet plan or a t-zones plan?
Actually on a Blackberry Minutes and mail plan, using the Blackberry APN or the wap,voicestream.com APN for browsing. Both stopped working a week or so back. Then I read this thread and am now back up browsing using the wap.voicestream APM via the proxy
SO,
is there anyway to use PIE and Tzones to browse the web, or would I have to install some other wap browser???
Which settings would one use if he were using PIE?
Thanks in advance!
and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!

quick question about tmo internet and tmo tzones

i'm fairly new to internet plans because i'm simply too cheap to pay for them. i've been thinking about signing up for an internet plan for my 8125 for a while now. i know in the tmobile stores they say that tzones can't work on a mda/wizard but i know thats crap. i'm pretty sure i've read somewhere that you can use the mda with tzones. i absolutely will not pay $30 a month for real html. its just not worth it for me. just to be sure though, if i had tzones can i only browse wap sites? if only wap sites can i browse them with pocket internet explorer and not that cheesy tmobile tzones browser? will i be able to use tzones with other data applications on my phone? will i be able to send email and log on to icq from tzones? is tzones unlimited?
any information would be great
(sorry if this thread is in the wrong place)
Last one first....you'd do better checking tmo's site, I have no idea what levels they have. That being said, if you don't do a whole lot, you should be fine with tzones. Most stuff works through it via proxy settings you can find on the site. The included IM app uses sms messages so it doesn't matter. If you use another IM app, however, you'll only be able to use it if you can change the connection port from the app to use one of the few ports open for tzones use. Email should be fine.
All that having also been said...a lot of people have been reporting that tzones is wide open and everything works. I have a feeling that they're working on something and this won't be the case for long so don't get complacent to wake up one morning and find nothing works except email. You get what you pay for.
I see your in NYC I'm in Jersey and over here the tzones is working without any proxy settings, I had been using tzones with the proxy settings for about 1 year and another user mentioned on the forums that it was working without the proxy.
With the proxy settings I was always able to check my gmail, browse the web with pocket internet explorer, but as markgamber said IMs don't work with the proxy, at the moment since I'm using it without the proxy everything is working fine.
I'm thinking that they might be fiddling around with the UMTS network or something, since they are already deploying it in some areas, and if I remember correctly by the end of this year it should be pretty much deployed everywhere.... or maybe they realized that it's not cool to charge customers a difference of $25 a month for the same service just because they have different phones.
I was playing with my 8125 at church and figured out how to get tzones... I dont have an internet plan, but I was accessing the internet and my pop3 mail with tzones (gprs) ...
Is tzones free???
There's definitely something going on, hmmm, I'll have to get someone who doesn't have tzones to try it out.
It works without proxy in NYC.
And If you don't have a plan, you might get charged by the KILO.
looks like i'm gonna be trying out tzones for a while.

I want to drop my pda data plan that is $40/month to the media max for $20/month. If I do this will I loose anything like outlook email or web surfing?
No, but youll be limited on the amount of data you can transfer without paying per kb. Dont you think that ATT would be a better place to ask this other than a software developers forum.

do you just have to route everything through wap.cingular? I heard if it goes through isp.cingular then they charge you per KB
I use just fine except for internet radio, at&t blocked the port or sevice that it was using, so I just did a vpn link with my home router and it works fine, But yeah unlimited data for 20.00 bucks a month yipee

Yeah i'm on the same plan and tether just about all the time since it's like having a 20 dollar dsl connection!
so what's the difference between the $20 dollar medianet service and the $40 service...?

Officially the MediaMax plan is not supposed to be used with PDA phone like the 8525. If you go to the Cingular store, they will not let you activate a MediaMax plan and will force you to use one of the PDA data plans. They are also not supposed to let you activate the MediaMax plan on-line or by phone if you have a PDA either. If you already were using MediaMax when you changed to a PDA phone like the 8525, then they do not catch that.

Terms of service. If they catch you using a PDA with the $20 service they'll likely drop your data plan and not let you resubscribe to it until you get the $40 service.
I found this about a month ago when I was looking for an answer to this similar question (but regarding tethering with a laptop & dataplans). I post it here in an effort to share something that may be useful to others with similar questions.
------
What AT&T doesn't tell you is that all of the data plans are the same, they all work the same way, and there's no difference between the $20 media max data plan, $40 pda plan, or $60 laptop plan.
Well almost none, there is one difference which I'll explain. But the point is tethering or not, you'll never be charged a single penny more than your flat unlimited rate no matter what you do.
AT&T doesn't differentiate tethered data vs. phone-originated. To them it's all used the same way. The phone logs in to the data APN and uses data and in some case that can be coming/going to the laptop.
Officially for tethering or laptop data cards alike, you're supposed to have the $60 "laptop connect" aka "data connect" unlimited plan.
So what's the difference?
Here's a little primer on data plans.... AT&T has 3 access points (APN's or Access point names.)
1) wap.cingular
2) isp.cingular
3) blackberry.net
#3 is only on blackberry plans and it's necessary to use blackberry connect for your Treo if you were to try to use it. Otherwise, it's not interesting for this discussion.
For ALL AT&T phones (flip/bar phones,) Windows mobile, Symbian, Palm OS, laptop cards, and tethering.. in other words EVERYTHING that's not a Blackberry, they use APN #1 and #2 above (wap.cingular or isp.cingular.)
wap.cingular = NAT IP address. Basically IP address sharing you find on any corporate or home router.
isp.cingular = Public IP address. Exists for the purpose of supporting VPN clients, some of which have trouble working over NAT.
wap.cingular is intended for use with all phones, PDAs, etc.
isp.cingular is intended for data cards and tethering.
However, they're not mututally exclusive to those operations. You can use a phone on isp.cingular and tether on wap.cingular for example.
OK, now the data plans:
$20 Media Max 200 = wap.cingular only
$40 PDA "personal" Max (1500 text messages) = wap.cingular only
$40 PDA Connect Unlimited (aka PDA39) (no text messages) aka PDA enterprise = wap.cingular + isp.cingular
$60 laptop plan = wap.cingular + isp.cingular
Any plan with "tethering" will include isp.cingular + wap.cingular.
Any plan with "Personal" in the name will be wap.cingular only.
OK so what does all of this mean?
None of this means anything except that I'm trying to explain how the different data plans aren't different.
If you have a data plan that includes isp.cingular, you can use as well as tether on isp.cingular. If you have a plan with wap.cingular only, tether and only use wap.cingular, never use isp.cingular.
On plans that don't include isp.cingular, it should simply fail to connect. But to be safe make sure you don't see any kind of "internet pay per use" or similar wording on your features list. that would mean wap.cingular is unlimited and isp.cingular is "pay per use" rates.
This is how you'd get burned by a big bill and how people have been burned in the past. But AT&T seems to have fixed the problem and no longer put isp.cingular PPU on accounts anymore.
Just simply be aware of this so you can avoid it.
What APN you're using, you'll have to drill down in to the connection settings. The profile "My ISP" as well as "Media Net" are both set up by default to use wap.cingular (aka works on all plans.) Media net only differs in that it's set up to use a proxy.
You can also get more on this on a page I published here:
http://www.gadgetech.info/wireless/cingular/data/
Note, this is outdated. it was written before they introduced "PDA Personal" Max, so it doesn't reflect those new plans. But it is still educational if you want to know more about the difference between APNs.
Having said all of that, I have Media Max 200 and have had it for 4+ years on Treos. I've tethered, and use my SIM in laptop cards. I've never been charged extra. to be charged extra would be a billing error that AT&T should resolve.
PDANet is the easiest way to tether on a Treo 750.
When you get the WM6 upgrade, it has internet sharing built in which takes away the need for PDANet.
Note on WM6, the use "My ISP" not "ICS." "ICS" is set up to use isp.cingular.

So tell then you have a reg phone and if they want an IMEI then give them one from the stash you have in your closet (Everyone has a throwaway....at least they should)
subscribing to this.
I just got off the phone with AT&T about this very issue. Spent an hour on the phone with one of their network ppl. When I get some time on the laptop I will elaborate a bit more.

No you wont lose anything. But my friend had the $20/month plan and his phonebill was $350.00. I think its better to go with the unlimited data plan for $40.00 unless you live in a city that has free wifi. I just use wifi myself. I know AT&T hates that.
I just signed up online. Att doesn't know what phone i have or seem to anyway. I use wap.cingular login. $20 a month for about 6months now and no problems.
^^^^^$20 month plan is Unlimited. Intended for normal Cellphones not PDAs.

Tzones Hack Help....

so after months of having a stock rom, i decided to play with my wing again and tried to get the tzones 5.99 plan for my wing, but the rep said that it is no longer compatible...when checking online under my account, the plan doesn't appear...is there any other way i can get it back on??? thanks in advance

yeah it's strange, i looked on my t-mo account and the area designated to signing up for new services no longer shows my t-zones 5.99. I hear they have gotten rid of it. BUT, when i change my phone type(the pic in the upper right corner of my t-mo page) to a moto razor and go back into account/services, the 5.99 t-zones web shows up! So! try switching to a moto razor on your my t-mobile page and see if it is an option in the account/change services links and report back. I know when i last signed up for t-zones i did it from a non pda phone via the handset and the t-zones page. then i pulled the sim card and put it in my wing. once i set the proxy settings the full web was available. right now I'm using the epc.tmobile.com site instead of wap.voicestream.com. i've heard that this works even without a subscription to a data plan but will only be available for a limited time. start/settings/connections/manage existing connections/modem/edit/access point name/epc.tmobile.com..... good luck!
t zones hacks
ok after going round and round with tmobile with my wife's behold i had figured out something the 5.99 tzones does no longer exist it's price has been raised to 9.99. depending on the device that is going to be using the tzones depends on what plans are available, so the trick is to find the oldest phone you have and place your simcard within. then goto tzones and sign up for the lowest data plan. the plans are not tied to the phone once the plan has been purchased but it does look at the device that is being used to access the web. for example my wife has a razr and and a samsung behold the behold is a 3g device while the razr is a standerd gsm device. now according to tmoble the behold will not work on the standard gsm plan. but that is wrong once ya change the proxy to the standard gsm proxy 216.155.165.50:8080 it will work now mind you you will not be able to stream anything but ya can still surf just as well also the 9.99 is limited to 100mb. my plan stemmed from a sony erricson t19 long story short the data plan is independent of the device (with the exception for a blackberry) after it has been activated its tied to the phone number on the sim but to sign up it depends on the device
-rastlin
Actually if you use the epc.tmobile.com access, you do not need to set the proxy settings since there are no port restrictions.
And it may be just an illusion but I feel that it is much faster too.
So if I put my SIM card in say a Razr, change my phone to a Razr and the data plan to the 9.99 data plan, and switch the SIM back in my Wing, I'll have full internet?
But what's the deal with the bandwidth limit? It's ONLY for the 9.99 plan no?
corrrect if memory serves me, the 9.99 is the lowest amount one get for a dataplan but they cap it @ 100mb the 5.99 is grandfathered in now depending on whom you ask in customer support ya may have access to it then it depends on the person you speak to and what level they are at as an employee for all you know they may not have access to that screen so just keep askin...

T-Mobile Web $5.99 is now web2go $9.99
T-Mobile Web $5.99 is now web2go $9.99. Since changing from wap.voicestream.com to epc.tmobile.com the proxy is no longer required with either service. One is simply grandfathered, the other is new service. A word of caution, changes to your plan and services online at My T-Mobile may result in removal of T-Mobile Web without you being aware of it, so before you lock whatever changes you have made in it is imperative you make sure you're not removing T-Mobile Web. I called their web support and tech support and raised holy hell with them about this sneaky little tactic being put in just before you make the final click to submit to the changes online. I do know T-Mobile is unlimited as in exactly that, unlimited. There is a fair usage policy on all of T-Mobile's new data plans including web2go and as many know, data usage is now included on your bill.
so if i get the $10 plan i can do everything with it that i would be able to do with the $25 plan but i am capped at 100MB correct?
edit: i changed my phone to a razor v3 the tmobile support page but the 10 dollar data plan is not there only the hotspot plan is that the same thing because i dont think that it is.
t-zones and data plans
i too had this happen to me and just found out last week when buyin my new Wing. i currently own a Moto RIZR, which is a really nice slide phone. and i had t-zone web for 5.99 and used opera mini. i turned it off for a few months and when i looked it was the new 9.99 plan. i have all the services t-mo offers and 5 lines and very happy its all good i have the 9.99 plan now.
well on the plus side its beats paying the full price that they are asking for.

Confused
OKay, I have a 3g iphone with 2.2 firmware. I added the tmobile plan for 9.99 so that I could hack tzones and get full internet. I have put epc.tmobile.com in my apn but I still can't roam the internet. I can only use tzones like is meant to be used. It says my plan restricts me from going to those sites, that if I want to upgrade click on the link. Ahhh. I am really frustrated on how I can get t-zones hacked! Help me please!
Tzones Hack Help....with iphone
well i dont konw about yall but i dont know much about the iphone it self since it is an apple product and i dont own any apple products, being the fact that they cost so darn much....

this is a thread for the herald or wing not the iphone, you might wanna post in the right forum
Thanks patspdaphone!!
So I have been trying to get more on my Wing than is probly possible but hey thats the FUN of it! When I did a hard reset and then soft booted before all the T-Mobile crap was installed it saved me like 6MB of space which is a lot for us Wing users! Anyway my point is when I stopped all the T-Mobile stuff from loading, I guess a part of all of that is the T-Zones and I am using the New TouchFLO Manila 2D so it needs to connect to GPRS in order to get the weather and internet Tabs to work. When I read your post that says....
PATSPDAPHONE -- "Actually if you use the epc.tmobile.com access, you do not need to set the proxy settings since there are no port restrictions.

I was very sceptical... BUT THEN I TRIED IT AND IT WORKS GREAT!!! AND FASTER I AGREE!! AND FOR ONLY $5.99!! Plus I dont have all that T-Mobile stuff bothering me like TZones links and Shortcuts everywhere!! Its like I bought a HTC branded PHONE!! Anyway I just wanted to say THANKS A LOT!!!PATSPDAPHONE!!!
2 questions.. the $5.99 or $9.99 plan your talking about, is it unlimited, and second, Does it allow all sites? Because if so, I can find an old tmo phone, switch sims just to get it, but wanted to check 1st.

Well I had the 5.99 T-Zones unlimited plan and never changed so I think im grandfather'd in if you know what I mean. I haven't checked too many websites but the ones I have gone to loaded fine... Do you have any specific sites in mind?
no, just in general.. Because, reading other posts, with the tzones plan, it would be just for tzones. I called them last week, the net for the wing is $24.99 now, for whatever they call it.. web2go because they are upgrading to 3G finally. (Although the wing is not a 3G phone..) But, I can't see paying that for internet on a phone, My DSL isn't that much.

yeah it's strange, i looked on my t-mo account and the area designated to signing up for new services no longer shows my t-zones 5.99. I know when i last signed up for t-zones i did it from a non pda phone via the handset and the t-zones page. then i pulled the sim card and put it in my wing. once i set the proxy settings the full web was available. right now I'm using the epc.tmobile.com site instead of wap.voicestream.com. i've heard that this works even without a subscription to a data plan but will only be available for a limited time. start/settings/connections/manage existing connections/modem/edit/access point name/epc.tmobile.com..... good luck!

Holy crap, it worked! Hopefully they won't change it for a month or two, but even if it's just for a week, it worked!!!
By the time I find things on message boards, it's all been long changed, outdated.
PS Ok, I might have gotten a little carried away I can get to my Yahoo e-mail by bringing up Internet Explorer, but nothing else other than T-zones. Oh well, I have a lot to learn, but I'm trying.
Lol, I've had the phone for 6 months, and didn't know I could get yahoo email of IE without a data plan. The Push feature takes too long, and after trying 5 or 10 sites to no avail, I just assumed I coulen't get to Yahoo mail either. I go via Yahoo fromt page, and for some reason it lets me connect there, then to mail.
If you have web2go, you can NOT use epc, you have to use wap.
On my Wing, under Connections:
Name it something
Modem type is Cellular Line GPRS
Access point name is wap.voicestream.com
User, pass, domain is all blank
Remove any type of proxy settings.
If you have t-zones $5.99, you CAN use epc.tmobile.com.
Hope that helps.

Proxy internet for HD2 on T-mobile?

My sister really needs a new phone and is with T-mob USA. I was telling her to get the HD2 when it comes out, and she really likes the phone but she doesn't want to pay for the added internet plan. When I had my Shadow (1st gen) I was able to use the t-mobile lower internet plan (t-zones?) and using proxy server info I was able to use the internet almost 100% normal. There were only a few apps that were odd.
What are the chances that since this is still a WinMo phone it will have that ability? Is this something that can be figured out before the phone comes out? Also, if it did work, would it access 3g data?
Thanks for any help/info.
Nick
When the HD2 launches it will have a required data pack just like all other windows, blackberry's and android devices currently do. If a discount is recieved on the device then the data pack (minimum $25/month) is required, paying full retail price is the only way not to have it. T-zones is no longer offered by itself for $5.99/month unless your plan is a grandfathered plan that supports it but would only be able to be used if the phone was purchased at retail.

i use tmobile in uk if the proxy box is ticked my mail dosent load.
T-Mobile USA now uses the device IMEI for data plans
The proxy trick does not work anymore on Tmobile USA, they now use the phone's IMEI number to verify that the phone is on the correct data package. It works for about 24 hours now then when you try and access the internet you are sent to a screen to add the correct data package.
Proxy internet for HD2 on T-Mobile
I have T-mobile with the $5.99 T-Zones. I used it on the DASH and am now using it on a Touch VIVA. If I buy the HD2 from T-Mobile with no contract are they still going to force me to get a data plan or will my T-Zones stop working. I want to keep my T-Zones and may have to get an ulocked phone.

I'm currently with AT&T and about to switch to T-mobile when the HD2 comes out. When I spoke to the T-mobile rep., (trying to get him to set me up on the cheap data plans instead) He told me T-mobile can tell what phone you are using and know if it is on the correct plan. He also stated that if the phone is unlocked then you can trick their systems into letting you keep your old plan. Now again, I dont know if this is true or not, I am about to switch...hopefully this month, I'll find out then.
With AT&T, I have an old data plan (unlimited internet, 1500 text, 200 MMS) and I pay $19.95/month. they have never made me change my data plan and I am using the Tilt2. If you go through the priemer business website to upgrade your phone, they dont give you the $50 discount and you get to keep your data plan unchanged....all other channels force the upgrade with an updated data plan. Again, the only way around that is to buy your phone from someone else, unlocked, or have warranty dept. swap out your phone for a different model. My nephew has the $10 data plan and is now using the Tilt2 on it via warranty swapping out his phone for a different model (the Tilt2).
I know on the AT&T service you do get the 3g speeds, so I assume it will be the same for T-Mobile (but then again assuming may not be the best way to go). Hope that helped
I am pretty certain that my sister has a grandfathered in 5.99 T-zones package too. I am hoping that she can get it and use this way. The email not loading problem that adamo mentioned though doesn't sound good. Do the other internet based things work ok?

from what I was told, everything should work correctly and at the correct speed, as long as the phone is unlocked. The cell phone service providers don't seem to really offer different speeds at different rate plans like the cable internet companies do.
I had not seen your message from earlier ... we posted at the exact same time. Thanks though for your input. I will let her know. It seems like it is worth a try. Worst case scenario, she has a great phone but she has to use Wifi to check her mail and such.
