full screen apps keep minimizing - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

hey guys, any clue why my mda vario II would keep minimizing full screen apps?
so far have seen it for my games as well as tomtom navigator, which is definitely no good. for games i keep goign back to the main menu or just going to the today screen - same goes with tomtom where it runs for 2 seconds and then is back to the today screen!

Has this just started happening?
Are you doing anything (tapping screen etc) when it happens?
Did you install a new prog after which it happens?
Have you tried anthing to solve it?
Does it do it i landscape as well?

> Has this just started happening?
Since my ROM upgrade to the latest HTC one (not WM6)
> Are you doing anything (tapping screen etc) when it happens?
With games, yes. with tomtom-no, it just minimizes.
> Did you install a new prog after which it happens?
Nope. also have no running apps in the background - did a reset, started no other app and it still does it.
> Have you tried anthing to solve it?
tried disabling connection / direct push etc, gotten rid of sbp plus and my theme.

yes.

Hiya
Thanks for info. Good news is those answers have ruled out a physical cause that some folks have been getting. But it takes you into a ROM upgrade matter which is not my area. You might want to try posting in the upgrading Hermes section.
Mike

i've posted it in that forum, thanks
probably a related issue, but my backlight does not turn off and my phone does not go off after 1 minute when running on battery, even though its set to!

Probably, there will be registry keys for those settings but without a lot of tracking down I don't know which ones. Frankly I find my Hermes behaves a lot better with fewer freezes if I don't have it set to sleep/turn off backlight automatically - need to remember to do it manually though (which I don't always ) I'm lazy - waiting for all those glitches to be ironed out before moving to WM6 - keeping an eye on Kyphur and the boys though!

TWO SIMPLE QUESTIONS ABOUT XDA EXEC PROBLEMS

Since installing the latest O2 ROM upgrade I found two problems:
1. Alarms and timers (chronos, spb time) don't wake up the machine. I need this feature and this a major problem for me, surely must be also an issue for others.
2. I don't want the battery icon on the top bar, I want just the clock.
Does anyone knows a trick to change for the better any of those, please?
Thanks, Gonz
1) u can install 3rd party Alarm Softwares.
2) search the forum, there is a solution

Really?
Care to post a link? Everything I've read says there is no solution yet.
Look in your startup folder, there is a file that activates the battery icon (I can't rremember what it is called and I don't have it anymore, but I seem to remember it's obvious when you see it).
Delete it (or copy to another safe location) and your battery icon will no longer appear.
OK, it seems my problems are not so simple to solve, after all.
These are the files in my startup folder:
sddaemon, services, theme refresh and voice command.
Could you tell me which one to delete to get rid of the battery icon please?
Uhm…, and what about the problem of timers and alarms failing to wake up the device? Do we have to use the dull Microsoft application?
Thanks

hdubli,
I do have lots of third party software for this purpose and they all fail with the exec wm5, something that did not happen on my xda 2i with any of them.
If you please care to be more explicit with the solutions, I am sure several here would appreciate it.
Thanks, gonz
Alarm
For your alarm problem, check out pTravelAlarm
http://www.burroak.on.ca/wm2005.html
You are looking for version 2.6.0, which is for WM5 - their site claims that it's a trial version, but I've found it to be faultless, even after applying latest O2 ROM.
It's not free and I can't promise it'll work for you, but it's worth a shot.
If I can't leave my Exec plugged into mains overnight, I disable the "Turn device off after..." in Power Settings and it hasn't failed to wake me up yet.
Its volume control isn't linked to your device's, and it's loud enough to put the fear of God in you...[/code]
I am having a similar problem. What you guys dont seem to understand, is, even if there was a $1000 3rd party alarm software, it will be of no use when the phone refuses to wake up.
The problem we have is not of the alarm software, but the simple problem of the phone not waking up, e.g. from standby to ON.
Can someone shed some light on this issue.
Thank You
This forum has not resolved the issue of the battery, hunders if not thousands of people are awaiting some miraculous fix for this. the only thing I know to work is using wizbar to reskin the title bar.
in relation to alarms, sorry, i know the wm5 is a problem. though, the inbuilt alarms that i have used on the device do wake the device up.
the other thing you can try is, dont turn it off, dont allow the system to turn it off after a period of time, and just close the device without turning off.
it will drain a little bit more power, i think approximately 15% over the night than what it would otherwise draing, but if it is plugged in, then it wont drain at all and will ensure the device wakes up.
thanks, it is probably rom related since u report that your device does wake up. Can you tell me what rom version u are using? Thanks

Many thanks, I did try not to switch it off and it works!, even the timers!
my rom is in my signature, unlike yours.
what i was saying was it wakes it up from its sleep, but not its off state.
just closing the clam was sufficient to preserve battery, especially given that at night its always charged. even during the day, i rarely turn it off. i just close the device and let it rest....
Why is the "turn off device if not used for" alway
Does anybody know how to prevent the system from ticking this box every time?
My machine does it on its own, yes, it does, sometimes even after changing from landscaping view to normal.
So, the advice of not turning it off to make the alarms work is OK, but needs constant rechecking that the box remains unticked!!
Thanks,

I would look at your other software that may be enforcing this as it has never happened to me, nor have I read about it.

If you mean Windows\Startup, I have sddaemon, O2 UI Refresh and poutlook.
I have moved them all out (startup folder is empty) and still no luck.

My suggestion unrelated to your problem is to keep "sddaemon.lnk" out of the "start up" folder. If you haven't noticed yet, if you keep sddaemon on the start up folder, after performing a soft reset this file is duplicated under "Notifications" taking up your precious memory and slowing down your machine. You can check it if you have a program that cleans your Notification Que such as "Scary Bear's Check Notification" (freeware).
For the alarm one, does anyone tried using PocketWakeup? The original one is in French, but there is an English version too. Google for it and see if it works on the universal.

Can't think of anything in my PDA that will have that need or ability, it is not an option I've noticed in any program before, but thanks anyway. I'll search around, there must be a solution somewhere

Can't adjust Screen brightness

Upgraded to new 3.35 ROM.
Installed HTC Home, Home customizer, Pocket mechanic, Google maps, Memmaid, and then a few games.
When I go to Settings > System > Backlight, I can't adjust either of the settings for Brightness (on battery power, on external power). Both are 'stuck' all the way to the left.
Another interesting thing on Brightness. After installing the HTC Home, it has a button on the launcher tab set for 'Brightness' That doesn't work anymore either.
Anyone else seeing this?
reinstalled ROM. Working now. I'll test after each program install to see if it was a specific app that causes it.
Pretty sure it's HTC Home causing it. I've had similar issues. I need to look around at the different versions of Home, maybe one of them has it working correctly.

Which version are you using..try the 2.1 hermes for Home and v1.0 for the customizer that is the latest and greatest.
Thanks for the tip. I hate trying to track down latest versions of everything.
Could be HTC home. I don't remember which I installed before the ROM reinstall. But this time I installed a version I have that is called 'Schen 2.1 with N2A weatherpatch'
I had this same problem, oddly enough, after installing Nadavi Task Manager 2.0.31261.1. Uninstalling it didn't work and now I'm spellunking looking for a fix.
My Backlight adjustment wasn't working as well after I upgraded the ROM and reinstalled a bunch of stuff. After reading this thread I uninstalled the copy of HTC Home and voila, brightness adjustment works again.
The version of HTC home that futzes up the Brightness adjustment on the TITAN that I installed was: JUVS HTC Home.v2_1_1005722_s0.zip
I got this from the "All Extracted HTC Apps" Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=344533
Thanks for the tip, else I'd ended uninstalling things left and right to figure out what caused the problem.
PS I probably won't be reloading another version of HTC Home... it's quite a memory hog.

Launching Messaging Slow to launch

Occasionally, when I go to launch the messaging app on my xv6800 either through HTC Home or from the hardware button, it will either not launch or take it's time freezing up the phone in the mean time. other times, it opens right up. Hit & Miss as some would say. Anyone else deal with this and/or have a solution?

I deal with it and it is annoying to say the least.
If the messaging application or any application is already running in RAM then it should start up faster, But if you close it out completely it will take a while to launch an application depending on the size.

Ditto.. Thought it was just me..
same here.. just something to live with.......
Just have it running in your phone's RAM. Don't close out of it because that's what will happen. I just leave mine running all the time, and I have my QuickMenu set to exclude it from closing it when you press X. It loads up instantly like this.
I suffer the same headache, though it only started for me about a week ago (and I've had my xv6800 for 4 months).
The only thing that has changed on my phone since Messaging started to freeze/lock up is that I installed the new PCM Keyboard (v 0.14). I doubt that's the cause, but wondering if any of you are running it too?
UPDATE
I recently installed SPB Pocket Plus due to some personal interests and after having it on for a day I noticed that launching the messaging application runs abit faster.

I have PCM 14 on mine too but haven't noticed if that's been the culprit. But the Quick Menu solution works.
I recently found a registry edit (though for the life of me I can't remember where) that sped up the launching of internet explorer. It took the launching from 4-5 seconds to instantaneous. Maybe there is a reg edit to fix messaging also?

Auto data connection disconnect

Helo my beloved community!
So, since the HD2 utilizes quite a lot of the data connection quite frequently (mostly for weather updates), it would be good to have an option to disconnet the data connection automatically. I presume that this is probably a registry hack. This feature can be found for example in TD2/TP2 Tools. I don't want to wait until HD2 Tolls (or Tweaks or something else) shows up (I hope it will quickly because its always something very welcome!), so maybe someone could answer quickly where to tamper with the registry to do that?
Thx in advance!

thanks for the reply but ive installed the cab and restarted but it doesnt seem to do anything
I just did the mentioned reg edits but it didn't seem to work. Then installed the cab to countercheck for my mistake. Didnt change the result, didn't work...
Even though I noticed the CacheTime setting existed from the start and was set to 600 (10 minutes).
SuspendResume original value was "~GPRS!"
Data charges are not so much the issue, I'm just concerned it might drain the battery quicker if the connection remains open permanently.

Try to do the regedits like this:
SuspendResume=GPRS_bye_if_device_off
CacheTime=5 (decimal)
VPNCacheTime=5 (decimal)
It works on my TD2, which to my knowledge has the same WM6.5 as the HD2 does. By the way, did You set the end call button long press to "terminate data connection"? If You did, then UNDO it

Right, You can't check it, as none of the HD2's hardware buttons are configurable Just ignore that question. Anyway, I think Ive figured it out to some point. It looks like the registry hack works whenever the phone connects to the web to for example browse the internet or update stocks. But it DOESN'T WORK if the phone connects to download weather updates. It looks like the Sense weather app is somehow preventing the data connection to shut down. But I think it only happens when automatic weather updates downloading is set.
hmm you do appear to be correct... now why is the weather app hanging onto the data session
Well, just tried setting both CacheTime and VPNCachetime and when checking mail I can confirm it works.
Thanks a lot! Mail checking schedule set up.

absolutely no idea I think someone smarter than us should try to find the answer. Ive already done a rather brief look around the registry and tried to find something that would get the weather app such privileges but with no success. Im thinking of addressing a new topic about that, so its more visible to the community

Twitter app doesn't close the data connection either
This is really annoying me. My battery was draining fast and could not find out why. Now I have found out that it is because I am constantly connected to Mobile Web on O2. I have tried terminating it but it starts again. Even after unchecking auto update for weather and twitter it still turns on and never off. I have mail set to download automatically but if i turn that off too then what is the point of having this phone and feature?
I have tried the setting in HD Tweak app to turn off data after 1 minute but noy joy.

Theres one more thing you should check out. The biggest connection-demander was always the NOT PROPPERLY CLOSED OPERA. If you use the opera browser, be sure to close it NOT with the X in the upper right corner, but through Opera Menu->exit function. If you close it with X, it only goes minimized and does not shut down the connection. Even if you close it, because opera is still running, after some time it will want to refresh a page and conect again. Thats why you have the imression that the phone connects by itsself. Thats not the phone, its opera

Yes I know what you mean but you can't kill the weather app or twitter in this fashion as they run within Sense itsself. Besides, killing processes is not the point. The point is to have an automatic data disconnection, so you dont have to do or kill anything

Just to note, this never ever happened to me
at TileWave Panel.
maybe you are still running titanium under the spb shell. turn the titanium off so that if you see the windows home screen its empty. there musnt be any calendar, mail, text, hour, and all that text. only the background with nothing on it.
I have the same problem, with a lot of apps, TitleWave, even the Settings.
I'm wonder if the iPhone or another Android based phone has this kind of problems.
Cheers.
Well, when it happened to me (I'm using the good old WM6.1 and older style of homescreen with Resco Today 2008 with bunch of small icons, I hate all this "finger-friendly" crap brought by ****ing iPhone), I solved it by closing some apps (usually Solitaire). Luckily ArkSwitch wasn't forced to minimize =)
i've noticed this issue too. for example, when i hit the phone button it'll close real quickly. it also does this with comm manager sometimes. if you click the middle of the screen real quick as the window flashes it'll stop it from closing, so its not a big issue for me
Any solution to that one? Friend want to use SPB on his X2 but it's unusable.
